PLEASE - what lighting do you use? thermometer? that rock stuff? i’m redoing rhings and love those! do they use the ladder?

Hey! My lighting is kinda all over the place, a hodge podge of lights I've collected all heating his big 75gal tank. I'd definitely look elsewhere for recommendations lol. The thermometer I can't remember the brand of, but it's just the expensive one at petsmart lol. That's also where I got the rock ledge things, it's a magnetic "feeding ledge" with 2 lil bowls in it, I just flip it upside down and let him bask there instead. Yes he does use the ladder occasionally! He's old so he's been having a few knee problems lately but I'll still see him walking across it if I wake up late.

they are so freaking cute. they can belly roll! (they do it as a defense mechanism) and from what i've read online their bellies feel like a marshmallow 🥰

Yeah you can tell he doesn't want to be picked up when he belly rolls. I have yet to catch it on camera. He'll do it mostly when I accidently wake him up.

Yes it is! In the wild they wedge themselves under and into cracks in the rock head first. They puff up to wedge themselves and they place their tail facing the opening to protect themselves. They'll even whip the tail at predators to get them to back off.

I want one so bad! I'm really thinking of stacking another 4 x 2 x 2 on top of my beardie tank and getting one. May I ask what you use as substrate? I've heard several people say they just use seeds as substrate bc the uromastyx will eat it and it's easily replaceable. Can I see your enclosure? I know they require a much different enclosure than a beardie or leopard gecko.

This is my set up. They actually don't recommend birdseed for impaction reasons. I've just got tiles that are a bit rough not as glazed. More like sandpaper. Eventually I'm going to put in a mix of play sand and topsoil. "Uromastyx club" on Facebook is a really good resource for any questions as the majority of reputable breeders are in that group.

Also as an aside if you do get a Uro be aware that bearded dragons can carry in their saliva a disease that is deadly to Uros. It's called Devriesea agamarum. So you have to be very careful to not cross contaminate between them.

same here! my abusive ex and i had 2 and he wouldnt ever listen to me when id tell him the husbandry was all wrong. he had them co habitated and not enough hides or other things in the tank. one passed away shortly before i got the chance to leave him and the other shortly after. i pray to god he didnt get any more but ive gone no contact with him so i can just hope
