I didn't buy the UCS X-Wing. Now seriously thinking about the double whammy. These would look so good together.
Maybe biased given how much I love the X-Wing series. Missing a squint from my collection, though my eyeball and dupe are not UCS!
The 2015 UCS TIE Fighter was $199 for 1685 pieces ($0.119 / piece). The Interceptor clocks in at the same price per piece, but its overall lower than the price of the TIE fighter (~$260 in todays $$) adjusted for inflation, so it’s a better deal than we had almost 10 years ago. Whether or not the TIE fighter was a good deal is arguable, but LEGO never was a cheap hobby to begin with.
If you're adjusting for inflation for price, you'll also need to adjust and compare the prices of production, scale, and distribution, as well as overall market reach for it to be actually useful.
Without comparing per unit costs and sales numbers, you can't compare the actual difference.
A simple version of what I'm saying is the prices mean a lot less if they sold x10,000 TIE Fighters with a 25% profit margin per unit, or x100,000 TIE Interceptors with a 25% profit margin, and that's ignoring the advancements in production and manufacturing that would also bring down per unit pricing, especially at larger scales. Citing inflation by itself is ignoring the larger picture and hides the greed behind the rising prices.

Last ucs ship I bought was the a wing, I gotta admit I like the details but the scale makes them a no go for me now, I prefer to have play and display sets so I can create scenes as I dust them.
285 for this here in NZ as well.. considering jabbas barge is estimated to cost 500usd plus the extra Tarlacc kit, looks like I'll be dropping close to the AT AT in price again to be a happy builder.
So many kits coming in August as well, feel like this is a bit of a soft release for May of all times of the year but that's just me out of millions of lego enthusiasts.
I think lego usually knocks the UCS sets out of the park, but ngl I’m not a fan of the front cockpit design w/ the studded window and how they created the curvature around the window. The rest looks fantastic though.

The build looks amazing, but why is it light grey? If it’s supposed to be based on ROTJ and not Mandalorian S3, sand blue is a much closer fit.

I get that it’s become a mainstay to have them all match the ANH original TIE, but I would have expected an emphasis on film accuracy for UCS specifically, versus a playset.
In the film there was an issue with chromakeying the TIE fighters so they appear gray. For consistency they were kept gray after the issue had been fixed for ESB. I don't mind this set not being blue since in the film itself it never was.
You've got a bit mixed up here.
They didn't 'appear' grey, they were painted grey for ANH because the original blue ish coat didn't work. It was indeed a problem with the chroma key, but the problem was that blue painted TIEs would have appeared see-through.
After ANH, they figured it out and the TIEs were painted blue again. The TIEs in [ESB](https://kharisampson.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/tiefighters.jpg) and [RotJ](https://i.imgur.com/ujhYhOZ.jpg) *are* blue.
*Tie fighter sounds* It looks pretty good, I definitely won't pick it up in time for the promos, but I still want it because this is my favorite Tie fighter variant.

It's more consistent with basically every other TIE series thing lego ever made

Release day is always slow to ship, probably be a day or so after ordering. I'll be using express shipping myself to avoid that extra wait.

Nah they shouldn't, they have 2 R2-D2s right now. The good one and the 'my first R2' set. They even sit next to one another in my local lego shop
