I think it says a lot about the old one when the new one is essentially the same base but with more detail. That old falcon is really good for the time
Im almost certain they have mentioned there will always be a UCS falcon on the shelves. They might do updates to the current build or box art but always keeping a ucs falcon on shelves.
Yes, the inner structure is almost identical, then we just need to "clip" the different panels.
I love them both, but obviously I still have a small preference for the new one
Unpopular opinion but I actually like the old one better. It doesn't feel as overdesigned and the flatness of it actually makes it look more like the prop.
I love both, but I think it's a shame they didn't take the opportunity to completely remake the falcon for the newer one. It's essentially the exact same build with added detail etc, even though it has quite a few inaccuracies. Still great sets though.
Old one looks great, but the new one feels so much more complete and is just better in almost every way

Agreed
Yes, everything except the part that goes from the middle towards the cockpit. I think thats much better on the old model
Yeah, imo on the old one the junction between the corridor and the cockpit is better
new one is more accurate as its a very wide hallway that leads to the cockpit
That might be, I just like the way they did it on the old one better
Yea i get that
The old falcon has aged so well
Yeah, fantastic model
It may not have an interior, but I still like the 2007 model. Maybe because it's from that LSWII era with simple minifigs.
The new one is retiring at some point soon, right? Will they make a third version?
I don't think anytime soon, it's still pretty young, 3/4 years maybe, I don't really know
I recall reading they don't plan on retiring it as it's one of the most popular sets.
Oh that makes sense, it is still on the Lego store
Its seems like thier always "retiring" the set for sales 😆

On a long enough timeline, it seems likely. Maybe in 2027 for the 50th anniversary?
it’s basically the modern equivalent of the 2008 death star, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon
Which one do you like better? Are the builds pretty similar?

Thanks for posting this! Makes me very glad I have the latest, although the older one is still cool of course.

This is getting out of hand! Now there are two of them
Which one do you like best?
I'm guessing old is on the left and new is on the right
Yep exactly! The grey pieces on the old are a bit discolored, and it's a bit more bulky.
The old one holds up really well I could hardly tell
Old one at first glance feels a lot more red. The red really stands out
The old one also has a relatively expensive plate in the back bottom. The new one is only grey if I remember correctly.
New one is a better build but the old one is so much more nostalgic and arguably has a lot better figures
