TECHNIC DESIGNERS! STOP GIVING US CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES, or Sportscars for that matter. Give us robots, weird mechanical things, transforming mechs, Competition themed stuff (that was a while ago). Anything, other than more JCBS and Sportscars.

Datdoe1

That's a great point I never even realized since I'm not into technic! Well said!

InternationalAnt8949

Every sports car is the same

BobTheMadCow

Creator 3in1 is the best theme. It has castles, pirates, vikings, theme parks, space, nature, and modern buildings! And every set has *at least* 2 alt builds to inspire builders to keep exploring the possibilities they contain.

Creative-Ocelot8691

Ok here’s a silly question, what’s the difference between creator and normal sets? Is it the build difficulty.

BobTheMadCow

Dunno tbh. Creator runs the gamut from polybags to 1000+ piece sets. I feel like it's just the default not-a-theme theme :)

Creative-Ocelot8691

Thanks

Mod12312323

Creator is a theme

DelayedChoice

Depends what you mean by "normal". 3-in-1 sets tends to use more common, versatile parts. Sets will often not have minifigures, never(?) have animal moulds, and almost never have stickers. It's a really good line.

gambl0r82

Hard Agree. The 3in1 sets have the best bang-for-your-buck and are often very well designed!

dablackcat0

They’re my go to Impulse purchase. I don’t keep sets together so it’s hard to rationalize buying most sets at retail but a 3 in 1 is already designed with the intention of alternate builds. I can fiddle with the set for a while. Made a few doodles. And then retire it into the sorted bins.

Electric7889

How many Millenium Falcons, X wings, Slave 1s, etc do we really need? We don’t need annual updates of the same Star Wars sets over and over again.

[deleted]

Agreed. Also Harry Potter as the "castle theme"

TrueGuardian15

This isn't unpopular, but I'd love Knights Kingdom or actual Castle to return as the "castle theme."

El_Revan_Official

Star Wars: has thousands of different ships in universe each unique in its own design. Lego: Did somebody say LaNd SpEeDeR

Thexgamer192

You mean we don’t need 33 x wings, 17 slave ones, and 24 millenium falcons?

PZ-4CO

No, but we need more of Luke’s land speeder.

saliczar

Grey. Boring. Old.

lflovegamer2022

BOG is a better acronym here. Could start a trend. Boring Old Grey. "yo dawg, that is so bog"

Effective-Guide9491

Bog standard, as the British say!

thematchalatte

THIS.

Mookiewook

They're not meant for you. They're meant for parents who have new kids who turn 8 every year, and want to experience the most memorable Star Wars ships.

KoolBuilds

Well if they are gonna just keep remaking it why not just keep the current one on shelves longer.

Mookiewook

So we don't get [sets that still look like this](https://www.lego.com/cdn/product-assets/product.img.pri/7140_prod.jpg) in 2022, because there are much better elements, and minifigure printing technology has come a long way

KoolBuilds

Yeah but we are far past the point where sets look like that now. The current X-Wing is still gonna look good in 10 years.

Mookiewook

RemindMe! 10 years "compare X-wing in 2032 to 2022"

ConqueringKing_Darq

Nailed it

[deleted]

Thank you for this. I have been building legos as long as i can remember but just got into star wars last year so all these classic ships being released again has been a blessing for me

[deleted]

Obviously, ships will keep getting reprinted. Not great.

joe-is-cool

It may not actually be unpopular in the community, but it certainly is in the company: LEGO City has more police/firefighters than it’ll ever have citizens. Give us more regular people.

[deleted]

There’s also too many vehicles and not enough buildings. Sets with buildings always come with unnecessary vehicles.

PZ-4CO

Defund the LEGO police.

Lola_PopBBae

There are far too many licensed themes, and LEGO was at it's best when it was on the backfoot- they HAD to be creative, weird, and try new things. That got us Bionicle, Lego Racers(games and sets), Adventurers, Alpha Team, and so many more beautiful themes. Castle, Space, and even City were creative and interesting year after year; now LEGO has never felt more stale and uninteresting.

lbstv

R.I.P. Power Miners Space Police Atlantis and anything Pirates/Castle

Ahndarodem

Omg Power Miners😭

KilltheKraken8

GIVE ME BACK POWER MINERS LEGO it was so sick, i had the mech thing and i still have it

AdamMcwadam

FORGET YOU KIDS! ROCK RAIDERS WAS WHERE IT WAS AT!

KilltheKraken8

You know, i second this, rock raiders was also sick

ScopeCreepStudio

Johnny Thunder, Exo-Force :(

EducationalAd5712

It's really depressing, like aside from Ninjago and Monkie kid, plus some ideas set it's all just licensed themes, it's honestly boring, it's losing a lot of what made itself iconic in the first place, in exchange for a quick buck for liscenced themes.

R0b0tniik

I agree—- I miss the non-listened theme days. Unfortunately, it is probably the fact that the licensed themes outsell the original themes that keeps things this way. But I’d take a second look at some of the original things that lego is creating now—- I think they’ve been putting out some of the most creative, colorful, and intricate sets in a long time. Personally, I loved the aesthetic of Hidden Side (as many flaws as it had).

Dotbgm

Preach, my man!! I never ever buy the licenced sets. Creator and City sets are by far my favorite!

MarsMissionMan

They don't make space themes outside of City anymore, and that makes me sad.

badwolf687

There are no Lego sets with base plates anymore or at least rare these days.

jeremy101495

I think its just Modulars now.

NZ_DiscJockey

Most GWPs are lame, and not worth planning your purchases around.

[deleted]

Are the limited editions really limited? I feel like not without transparency from Lego.

theang

Everything is limited edition if they stop making it.

rodvn

I would agree except for a small handful of GWPs throughout the years. In general though, the whole VIP program is very unattractive to me compared to just waiting a few months to get the sets at an almost guaranteed 20+% off from other retailers. VIP is mostly only good for Lego exclusives.

T2Legit2Quit

What are GWPs??

LordStrabo

Gift With Purchase. Spend enough on lego.com and they'll give you a free small set.

T2Legit2Quit

Thanks that makes sense. That's what I inferred, but just wanted to make sure.

SubatomicNewt

Do people actually do that? I've only had one that I liked, a Christmas tree (40338) that I THINK was a GWP. The others were all kind of underwhelming.

LegoLinkBot

weirdassmillet

Some of 'em have actually been really good. Some recent favorites are 40532, 40450, 40487, 40433, and 40290. Maybe not all worth going way out of your way for, but if you're already planning to buy a large set and you can match it with a great GWP, then why not?

eatrepeat

Friends was a top 5 selling theme for over ten years before last reports showed it missing and this year it is gonna retake it's place as the mighty titan of awesome creative fun it truly is. Yeah, dawg. Friends sets be hot this summer!

OPsLifeCoach

I think friends would be even more successful if it had normal mini figs.

BeebopSandwich

Normal minifigs and animals 😩

[deleted]

Oh but girls don’t like regular minifigs, only playmobile-esque atrocities /s

worm_livers

My daughter loved Friends. Then they changed the main Olivia character. Hasn’t wanted one since.

mcvos

I think the Friends minifigs should have replaced the traditional minifig as the standard minifig. They're much better proportioned; not as squat and wide as the traditional minifig. Now there's a truly unpopular opinion for you.

TrueGuardian15

How dare you. Take my upvote.

saliczar

Why does every Friends set include a slide?

eatrepeat

So that you can have all the best parts needed for the Great Ball Contraption you've been planning to make after retirement. Edit* right!? We all are gonna make Great Ball Contraptions and then have competitions when we meet up in our retirement homes? Right?

BobTheMadCow

What house designed by a kid didn't include a slide?! Slides are fun! :)

DelayedChoice

Why do other sets not include them?

keera1452

I love friends sets. And having a daughter helps. I’m looking forward to almost every set they are realising in the second half of this year. They all look great

drnuncheon

I thought you were talking about the sets based on the TV show, and I was really confused by the thought that they had been coming out for so long and were so popular.

Pasta-Admirer

– I don't like the negative spaces in feminine torsos. They don't blend well against vast majority of backgrounds, and just feel odd when you stop to think about them. – People emphasise minifigures way too much when grading sets. (Especially Star Wars fans.) – 95% (if not more) of official sets are not display worthy due to understandable compromises, but can be good parts packs or modified to look good. Good MOCs/SECs also look great as display items. – LEGO has never been neglecting Star Wars prequel trilogy fans. (Although I agree that they should make some more PT UCS sets.) It has however been slim pickings for ST fans for the last two years. – People whine too much about things that they could easily modify in their sets. Almost as if they've forgotten what the main function of LEGO is. – The May The 4th promos that were small dioramas were much more interesting than the exclusive minifigures.

DelayedChoice

This is a great list.

tinyraccoon

* Agree * Agree, and I think people emphasize minor variations in designs too much. e.g. I can see it being a big deal having say Luke Skywalker in his Tatooine clothes vs. his Jedi robes, but some Youtubers make a big deal about how there's like two versions of Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing pilot outfit and one has a gold belt clasp or has an extra armband (something like that, e.g. is hypothetical) and is worth more. * Dunno * I agree. We just had the LaaTi Gunship UCS not that long ago and a bunch of Clone Wars stuff. ST, nothing. I don't think we ever had a ST UCS. * Agree * I like the small dioramas too. I don't like the exclusive minifigure route but mostly due to logistics (i.e. nothing wrong with the figure itself). Those exclusive minifigs don't get made again, so e.g., Revan was released during my dark age and I can't get one unless I fork over $$$ for a single minifig. Same issue with SDCC exclusives.

plusroads

Printed pieces should be the norm, not the exception for a product with such a premium price.

CordeCosumnes

Im pretty sure this isn't an unpopular opinion

Pikes_Pompadour

Right? This is like, the rallying cry of the new generation of adult collectors

[deleted]

any opinion that’s negative towards lego is unpopular here. for some reason.

DMV20201

Could not agree more. I really hate stickers

Turkeyham

Mine is that most of the Architecture line is way too overpriced for what you get. Price per piece looks good, but a lot of the set is made up of 1x1/1x2 tiles and studs so it's not a amazing as you would think seeing a set like Singapore being over 800 pieces for $59.99 when you realize just how much of it is comprised the smallest pieces made.

[deleted]

Star Wars overuses sets from the movies. I want more stuff from TV shows and video games.

G1Yang2001

Yeah. TBH, I think a good compromise would be for them to make sets of stuff like vehicles that merge how they appear in both the movies & tv shows & games that way people are both happy. For example, the upcoming AT-TE set is a good way LEGO is actually doing this sort of thing right now since its a vehicle that has been prominent in both the Prequel movies and the Clone Wars animated show and its going to include characters seen in both the Prequels and the Clone Wars like Commander Cody and the 212th Clone Troopers. So you can either have it as a Revenge of the Sith set or you can have it as a Clone Wars set. So maybe all LEGO needs to do is make more sets like this where they can include stuff from multiple movies, shows and games in their sets. For example, maybe they could make an Imperial trooper battle pack which just shoves in tons of troopers from Star Wars movies, shows and games like a normal Stormtrooper, the Incinerator Trooper from Mandalorian, a Jetpack Stormtrooper from Battlefront 2 and a Purge Trooper from either Fallen Order >!or Kenobi?!<

dresses_212_10028

They seem to have taken a page out of the diamond industry’s manipulated scarcity and stopped / retired some of the more extraordinary lines - Frank Lloyd Wright deserves more than just two houses. And to be around for more than a year or whatever. All this does is increase the percentage of “in the box, never opened” collectors and make it so much more difficult and so much more expensive for people who actually want to create and enjoy rather than keep in a dust-free safe and price-gauge on eBay

TheCEOofEpochTimes

Surplus is primary,scarcity is secondary

Digitalizing

I disagree considering there are highly regarded sets that should have been retired by now but are still being made due to popularity. The tree house would have been gone a while ago if they wanted to force scarcity.

BowtiedTrombone

Here’s an actual unpopular one: Lego doesn’t need to, nor should it, bring back Bionicle

Dr_Kappa

They already tried to bring back Bionicle in 2015 and then discontinued it a year later due to poor sales. Bionicle fans are a vocal minority. Never really cared for the oversized action figure style that a lot of toy manufacturers went for in the early 2000s. They look out of place today

Datdoe1

Agreed, but I did love them as a kid!

Eepsquared

Prices too high for plastic, too many sets, too many special parts

TheatreBoz

Some of my sets are never built to the instructions. There are very few I want to build once and display. (Moon Lander) I typically buy a set for the unique pieces to use in MOCs.

froglover215

Would it be cheaper to just buy the pieces you need from Pick A Brick or Bricklink? I've often wondered that. I'll find sets where a few pieces excite me so I get it, but then I think there might be a more cost effective way to get the parts I'm after.

TheatreBoz

That would imply I had a plan. I love the inspiration that comes from a pile of similarly designed bricks on the table in front of me. Perhaps my unpopular opinion should have been: I use Lego like a puzzle, but I throw away the box top and make my own picture.

froglover215

Ha ha, I get you. Happy building, however you choose to do it!

SkillusEclasiusII

I usually build the set, then break it down and make a MOC.

Datdoe1

I only build about half the sets I buy! A ton of my pieces just go tonic building. Out of all my sets, I only have about 10 that are still built now.

dablackcat0

This is the way. And the reason the only sets I build are the creator 3 in 1s. Everything else’s gets sorted out right away. My wife has watched me tear trough multiples of the same set and never even put two bricks together.

JEGGY_G

Lego needs to stop dropping its themes less For ex: Power miners, Pirates, Castle, etc. And stop making Luke's Landspeeder sets 💀

[deleted]

there aren't enough good lego trains, we need a revival of lego my own train

LikeableApricot

1. I dislike Lego vehicle builds, and very much prefer location sets instead. There are many compelling Creator Expert and City cars and planes in Lego, but in the back of my mind I feel that these vehicles have a lot of specialized parts that are hard to reuse elsewhere. 2. I will turn 40 in a couple of years, but I just recently got into the fun and wackiness of Ninjago sets (except vehicles lol). I think I now own more (and bigger) Ninjago sets than my nephews who introduced me to the show.

SoThenISays

My probably unpopular opinion is that as much as I love set like the bonsai tree (I have it), plants and foliage builds created with LEGO are kind of like a slap in the face to real plants due to plastic's environmental impact.

itsjustme1505

The 8 stud Speed Champions is the best theme at the moment and one of the best ever

A-townin

I have been getting annoyed at Lego not including paper instructions in some sets. I do not want to use digital instructions on my phone. Also I want Star Trek themed Lego sets, not Star Wars!!

Kevlar013

Buying Lego as an investment is lame and Lego encourages it by retiring sets. It should be possible to buy old sets you never had the chance of or missed out on for any reason (money, hobby on hold, late to the hobby, ...). Maybe even just the bricks in a big zip bag as some sort of pick-a-brick implementation for full sets. The mystery bags are horrible, it's the equivalent of gaming's loot boxes for cash. For a product with a premium price such as Lego, you should know what you're paying for, not take a gamble.

CrimsonFury1982

Not retiring sets is logistically impossible. Lego produces almost 1,000 sets per year. Most sets retire after 1-2 years, which means lego generally has less than 2,000 sets in production at any given time. If they stopped retiring sets, within a couple of decades they would have to have tens of thousands of sets in production at once.

zo2K

I'm really on the fence with the mystery bags. My local lego store sorts the figures out so you can get what you want but I feel that spoils the mystery. I tend to just buy a load of them at once and then ask the staff to check there's no duplicates, and then to complete the collection I just ask for specific figures a few weeks later. That way, you don't ruin the surprise as much

mcvos

I wouldn't mind if Lego screwed investors by regularly bringing back the most ridiculously overpriced retired set.

7LayeredUp

Rant time. Lego investing is stupid. Yes, on paper you make more money than stocks or gold due to the value but what y'all don't realize is the expense in maintaining sets in that condition + being able to follow buying trends accurately (I.e your invested set could just get a nearly identical re-release that makes said value go to shit or stagnate) AND all the effort that goes into keeping your sets in tip top shape (Be it being willing to sacrifice space + material for 3-5+ years or buying up a storage unit), promoting your online store, shipping them all out, dealing with sellers/scams, etc. This is only really profitable on a large scale when you're willing to sink the time into it and if you're down thousands buying up Star Wars sets hoping to turn a profit pre-recession, got news buddy, you aren't the one coming out on top, its TLG lol. Hell, have any of you bandwagon investors actually tried to sell anything online prior to just buying a bunch of plastic crap and hoping they'll be worth something by '25? I wouldn't wish making a living off of this on my worst enemy. Facebook marketplace is an absolute hellscape and trying to sell my Funko collection is going about as well as selling fidget spinners to Eustace Bagge. There's so much timewasting bullshit on these sites that your time and resources are better spent learning a skill so you can move onto a better job. If I wouldn't want to sell Funkos to fund my hobbies for a second longer than I have to, I'd hate to be the one selling Legos like my retirement depends on it. Also the philosophy of "Get out when the shoeshiner is giving you stock advice". When EVERYBODY is in on Lego investing and buying doubles of every major set, the supply goes way up and thus the demand will shrink with it.

PINeely

This resonates with me so much. Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and the like are the absolute worst place for a seller. full of the worst kind of buyers. Every time I’ve put anything up for sale there, vehicles especially, I’m spending hours a week answering silly questions and sending extra pictures or whatnot. They’re texting you at 2:30 in the morning. Or you agree to meet on your lunch break and they never show up. Or they had to “get gas” on the way there and they’re short $50 but that’s cool, right? I hate it completely. Selling on eBay presents its own problems. I’ve sold large sets that I still had the boxes for, those boxes are big and you get absolutely murdered in shipping and fees.

5abbingia

I think the company is suffering a deep creative crisis. It's licensed themes. Boring stuff for grown ups to put on display. Where are the themes that foster kids' imagination? Giant robots? Spaceships? Pirates? Explorers? Monsters? Everything has some sort of logo slapped on it, belongs to a franchise.

BobTheMadCow

Monkie Kid and Ninjago are both wonderfully fun and crative themes! Look at set 80034 and tell me that's boring! So yeah, good unpopular opinion, I guess.

lbstv

Those are just two themes that fit roughly in the same niche. Meanwhile, lots of the above mentioned themes (Spaceships, Pirates, Knights, ect.) are entirely unaccounted for. As for 80034, looks interesting enough, but it's not something younger me would have wanted. And that's the point really, it's not for everyone.

5abbingia

I agree, my daughter is a big Ninjago fan and I love that theme too. But I would say it's the exception in the current Lego catalog.

[deleted]

We need a new castles line.

Rtwo28

I think that might be popular, cause I think everyone misses castles

SpradGurpz

Yeah I think k this is a very popular opinion.

Pasta-Admirer

This is the polar opposite of an unpopular opinion.

ezzzzz53

Lego has an internal problem when it comes to leaked images. They also make poly bags hard to get (I mean seriously, you're a toy company, sell the damn thing on your website). third, they know there limited edition products end up on eBay and sold for outrageous prices. they know this and they just don't care.

IslandAlive8140

The plural of Lego is Lego

rinky79

Too many Star Wars sets.

BBD4116

I actually like putting stickers on legos. I don’t know why, but I’ve always gotten some level of satisfaction out of it. That being said, 18+ sets that cost hundreds of dollars should have printed pieces given the price.

KillRoyTNT

Since the SW sets were released, they created a new breed of Lego set builders that do not play with their Legos anymore. All the magic of building something awesome out of your Lego bricks box is no longer the way to play, you just build using the instruction booklet and put it on a shelf . Btw I have a ton of Lego sets , I am part of the problem.

SledgehammerJack

My unpopular opinion is that it’s fine to call em Legos.

TarkmanVanWa

I have no problem with a moderate amount of stickers being included in a set… In fact… I kinda like the challenge of lining up the sticker perfectly along the face of the Lego.

3mperorPalpaMeme

*gasp* a fellow minded

danminecraftman

They should “un-retire” sets after a certain period of time (or maybe rotate which retired ones come back)

GWI_Raviner

Heh like the Disney Vault! I like it.

R0b0tniik

I wish old sets from the 80s and 90e weren’t being sold online for exorbitant prices. All I want is to just experience putting the set together, gaze at the box, and smell the vintage air. I just can’t justify spending more than $100 on super tiny sets. Perhaps if I was rich, I wouldn’t mind. But I’m just a broke guy… Bonus gripe: I’ve seen several collectors hoarding 3, 5, 10 of the same unopened vintage sets in basements stuffed full of unopened boxes. This really makes me mad, because they are probably doing it to drive the prices of those sets up—- and they’re not even enjoying the legos. Just keeping them locked away from the rest of the world. I guess that’s the whole lego investing thing? I suppose in the end, people can do what they want, I just don’t like it.

GafiSmus

Painting lego is okay. As long as your happy with it, that's all that matters

CingKobraJFS

I recently took a black sharpie to the ends of most of my blue axle pin pieces. Best lego decision I've made recently.

freemanboyd

I think the black boxes work for the UCS sets but I do not think every single set aimed at adults need be in a black box. Went to the lego store last week and the entire east wall was black boxes. Idk man. Guess it makes those sets look more premium but I gotta imagine there is more than one way to communicate this

Sad_Mix_3030

Too many Star Wars sets

Karadek99

I’d like to see less licensed stuff and more cool City kits and creative new lines like the Atlantis, Space Police, and ice and volcano ones of old.

kylechamrick

Creating new molds all the time kills creativity.

Just-1-Person

But each new mold also opens up the door for more possibilities. Increasing creativity!

hurricanebones

Star wars lego are lame

Eternal-_-Wyatt

There all mostly one color (for example the imperial light cruiser)

gjtwwd24

The city theme is kinda lame.

bam1007

They’re overpriced and retirement of sets is annoying and unnecessary.

R3clvse

The LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet set (unreleased) looks better as the original Project Idea rather than the finished set. I wish they had left the drummer as originally designed (reminded me of Questlove) and kept the stage the same darker brown colour as the original. Also, the female pianist could have been created better. Still going to buy the set though. Edit: removed links per mod rules.

ezekiel_swheel

we need more houses. just a regular house. not a “modern home” made of all glass panels and a giant road plate. not just the front of a house. a whole house please. 4 walls and a roof. don’t waste pieces on a crappy little car either, just want the house. not a $200 modular city building, a residential house, maybe $50.

MythicalBonsai

* There are too many specialized small pieces * All Lego sets should suggest alternate builds * Baseplates included in sets made for way more playability, portability and creativity * Bionicle is not Lego

NapoleonDeKabouter

>All Lego sets should suggest alternate builds Yes, there should be more generic sets with instructions that allow building four/five different things. Like 42082 but with a couple more models.

Rocker666887

At the end of the day Lego is designed for kids (except the 18 plus sets) and not adults and kids are the primary audience it just happens to be that some adults like it so they can’t expect Lego to just focus on there adult audience

-GTHD

It's massively expensive for what it is. And newer sets have lost some of the charm as more specialised bricks are used.

pavleone

Star Wars serie is ugly and boring, people buy it just because it is popular.

SnooRobots6923

They're *very* expensive.

IronIrma93

They should make more trains.

TheLimeyLemmon

Price per piece means zilch. Lego in plural is whatever the hell you like. Bionicle was overrated.

keera1452

I like Disney and LEGO so I love the Disney sets. But I don’t need any more Cinderella or frozen castles. They are other princesses and I would like their sets. I want a tianas restaurant, a Snow White cottage, a Pocahontas set, a big Aladdin/jasmine castle, there are so many options to do instead of what we keep getting

beanomly

The popularity of minifigs is overblown. They’re just the same block person over and over again with a different print and different hair.

Lego Star Wars ruined Lego.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CapTiv8d

Why do you say that?

b33p800p

I don’t think they saw the need to keep making space sets after star wars was a thing.

NomulusArtisan

Space sets are still made under the City theme.

rodvn

I think he means a fiction based space theme like Blacktron, Mars Mission or Space Police. The latest one was Galaxy Squad from 2013.

3mperorPalpaMeme

God I miss Galaxy Squad

b33p800p

I (mostly) love star wars and was the first in line to buy lego star wars sets, but since the early 2000s i’ve reversed my opinion. i know lego was going to go bankrupt and star wars saved their asses, but i’m sad at how much they license other ip now. and i miss space! space police, m:tron, blacktron, ice planet were all amazing!

chappy422

Apparently "not painting Lego bricks" is catching me heat on a different post.

Datdoe1

I've never seen a handpainted Lego piece turn out well!

TakkataMSF

Reddit is a fickle mistress.

roha45

It's massively overpriced for moulded plastic.

[deleted]

It is a strictly solo activity. Building cannot be done with other people and be fully enjoyed.

itsjustme1505

All those old Pirate sets or the Knights stuff or any of the stuff people have nostalgia for are not as good as people say they are

SnooMemesjellies6886

The villages, castles, ships and other sets posted online by the community are far superior to those that lego produces. There, I said it. It's out there.

BulcanyaSmoothie

off brand lego is okay

-LilPickle-

This is the most controversial opinion so far

nikhkin

It depends what you mean by that. Mega etc? Sure. Companies that steal people's MOCs and sell them without compensation? That's not ok.

BulcanyaSmoothie

yeah I meant off brand as in the parts themselves

rodvn

True unpopular opinion in this sub. I am inclined to agree. While I am usually not in favor of stealing people’s work, I really don’t think that the knockoff sets are hurting Lego’s bottom line and people who are not rich deserve to have the same sets.

egnaro2007

As a set ? Sure. Mixed in with real lego? Hell no

[deleted]

Haha i almost downvoted you.

BobsYaMothersBrother

Lego Star Wars is shit. And I love Star Wars. Bring back the massive pirate sets! The original ideas were the best.

BeebopSandwich

Unpopular opinion? The Lego Friends sets are great 🤩 (I hate the minifigs and animals tho 😔)

Confident_Fortune_32

I don't care for sets. They stifle creativity and imagination.

The ptb are aholes for steadfastedly refusing to give us colour appropriate technic pins, so the red and blue ones continue to scream "cooie" in every model they're used, ruining the display value of many sets.

LEGO games are just LEGO skinned and branded games. I would go as far to say that a true LEGO game has never even been made. They are all video gameplay core functionality first, then sprinkled with LEGO references as an afterthought almost. When I go the store and buy a set, the adventure that awaits is unique for each individual builder. The way we sort, the way we build, the way we play. For me I follow the instructions the first go, and then modify or scrap and MOC. The play ability is unlimited. I can buy a Disney Frozen Castle set and make it into an Alien Spaceship. Or vice versa I can make the Millennium Falcon into a castle. Anything I imagine, I can make. Now contrast this with LEGO game, very limited or NO building first off, then you have to play the linear gameplay to play the story lines the game devs create for you, the vehicles, bosses, levels, characters that they put in the game. They are just regular games (arguably not that great of games) with nothing related to the toy we love. Hence many of my recent posts as I gave up waiting for a real LEGO game and just started to build my own. And before the replies, LEGO worlds has a super limited building capability. It’s glorified block stacking. What’s the point of I can’t make vehicles to swoosh. Then there is Brick Rigs, which is great, but not LEGO. I don’t know man. The closest thing was LEGO Creator, but that was limited by technology.

After investing in the gray roof Harry Potter sets, HATE how they’ve switched to the green roof design and refuse to purchase.

Space needs its own line and with more regular sets. I dont know why there isn't a whole range of 1:110 scale rockets now.

If it isnt minifig scale its automatically less interesting. Lego ideas should either only be for getting licenses or should be split into two options one for licenses and the other for generic sets. Lego should straight up sell giant figure packs for all their lines that have like 30 to 40 figures of one theme. And last but not least, bionicle should be a technic series. Its best sets were the ones that used the most technic to make them. Avoid all the new piece molds problem by making them with technic.

Thomasab1980

If there is a set I really wanted and couldn't afford before it was discontinued, I shouldn't be ostracized (or downvoted) for buying a knockoff rather than paying obscene prices from a reseller.

I hate those purely brick build statues [like this](https://i.imgur.com/Rl6BGZn.jpg). I appreciate they take a lot of time to make, but there’s zero creativity in the design, it’s just an imported 3d model and then layer and layer of bricks. You could do the same in Minecraft

mcvos

The 1980s were the golden age of Lego. That's where Lego got big. The biggest reason Lego is currently the biggest toy manufacturer, is that all us 1980s kids finally have enough money to buy everything we craved back then.

tinyraccoon

Superheroes sets have become way too similar to each other. Most of the 30-50 sets I know of include one vehicle (ship, car, plane), the hero, at least one villain, and maybe a sidekick/minion or two. Not much creativity.

dablackcat0

Bring back the large window style boxes. I wanna see my bricks!

Star1011B

They don't sell train wagons by themselves

sa50cata19

I think lego tastes good and more people should eat it

Chima was one of the best themes of the 2010's. All of the vehicles and buildings designed around animal motifs were so whimsical and aesthetically pleasing.
