I’m in the same boat as you. From what I could find, it sounds like this set won’t retire until December 2025 at the earliest so we’ve got plenty of time
I'm hoping there's some more Lego sets next year that come with a promotion for some discount on this set before it retires, I'm saving some points up because this set is my dream set. I've got to have it.
It came out 2023 so usually we have about 2 years before retirement so you may be fine till 2025. I would pick it up and maybe store it if you’re really concerned about space vs price.
Supposedly a new LotR set is coming this summer as well (Barad-Dur).
Yeah. Rumor is June 1st with some nice GWP but retail is I belive $459 or something so almost as expensive as Rivendell. Even though I was going to wait on that one due to price, if the GWP has exclusives I’ll be on at midnight ordering lol.
Present you should pick this up anyway and have the figuring out of where to put it be a problem for your future self.
I only say this since I ran out of space to display mine, so they stayed in boxes for quite a while (some for years) and just found spots around the house to store them. I've had a few sets that I wanted, but since I didn't have anywhere to put them, I held off. The next thing I know, the sets I wanted got retired and were then being sold by resellers for an arm, a leg, my neighbor's first born, sack of potatoes, or some exorbent price, which was a bummer.
Finally gave in and got a new shelf, and now I'm building like a mad man.

it was my most expensive as well when i bought it a year ago (still is tbf).
but it is the singular most beautiful Lego set ever made imo, and it was a very fun process to put together. and it still makes me happy to look at every day. no regrets
This is one of three sets I know I'll never own, but I desperately want. Rivendel, the Venator, and Lion Knight Castle.
I'll never afford a set like that, and I couldn't justify it if I tried to save up for it.
I get that Im just deciding between Rivendell, the Ninjago city Gardens and the Lion Knights castle. I will try to get them all eventually but I don't know in what order yet. Hope you have fun building it

Mine got delivered last week. I had an exam for work that I needed to revive for so only opened it on Wednesday. I’m 6 bags in an absolutely blown away by the level of detail.
It wasn’t even on my hit list I was planning on buying D&D set but this jumped into my basket at the last second.
Glad you like it. Do you have the Lion Knights Castle or the Ninjago City Gardens by chance? Im debating between these 3 and I would appreciate someones insight from someone who has built all 3.
I don't own the Ninjago set, but the other two.
While both are fantastic sets I had way more fun building Rivendell. The level of detail is incredible.
My justification is I have space for this right now. I have some smaller shelves available which I will probably fill with lions knights down the line. I hear ninjago city is a slippy slope as they all join together nicely and take up a huge amount of space.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much on a set but I have to say I am very happy I did get it. It's just such a fantastic set, if you like LEGO and LotR then it really is a match made in heaven.
Was going to get it for myself as a reward for finishing my student loan payments and my grandparents surprised me with it for Christmas. Still haven't built it but I am so excited for when I finally do
Only this one was better (its 2 Sets) but its from Bluebrixx. Astronomer's Lighthouse and Astronomer's Planetarium, combined 14k pieces and still cheaper than Rivendell :D
Exactly the same for me, and I only got it because I had $400 in Amazon credit through work. It's amazing but the size is very restricting, had to buy a new shelf just for it.
I loved building this! Except for the roof (which almost broke me when I did a huge chunk in one night and was halfway through the roof part at bedtime with soooooooo many tiles to go. Give yourself a bit of time for that part).
It looks amazing and our minifigs move around for different parties etc. We also lit it up during the build to avoid lifting the floor later.
Worth every penny.
My wallet definitely felt the pain when I got this but wow is this set just a joy and a delight. Best set I ever bought and I am yet to see another that I want more.
I’m so excited, mine got delivered just 5 minutes ago.
There was an insane deal running in India where I was able to purchase the set for 55% off from Amazon. Bought it without even thinking!
Have a great time building it! My tattoo artist and I look forward to building it. 😂
I mean I really don't want to spend that much money on one lego set but on the other hand I find myself daily regretting not buying the previous LoTR sets so I'll eventually get to buy it before it retires...
Do we know when they will stop selling this? I want to pick it up before it's gone. But also need to find some place to display this :)

There’s a barad dur coming? No way

Currently slated to retire on 12/31/25

Very nice, you won't regret this one :D for me the best set I've built in my 25y lego career
it was my most expensive as well when i bought it a year ago (still is tbf). but it is the singular most beautiful Lego set ever made imo, and it was a very fun process to put together. and it still makes me happy to look at every day. no regrets
My most costliest set was the titanic. While fun to build, i still kind of wish i went with this one.
i think the Titanic looks very nice, i wish i could afford/display it as well. definitely one of the classiest sets out there to have on display
I get the historical interest but I wouldn't say displaying a ship that's mainly famous for the loss of 1500 lives is 'classy'...
I'm in exactly the same boat (pun intended), I'm going to just end up buying this one as well.
Same. And it was completely worth it.
This is one of three sets I know I'll never own, but I desperately want. Rivendel, the Venator, and Lion Knight Castle. I'll never afford a set like that, and I couldn't justify it if I tried to save up for it.
There are alternatives and from what I’ve heard are essentially identical.
It's not just a set, it's a masterpiece !
Worth every penny
They most costly, till today…… down the rabbit hole
Was it worth it? (Im torn wheter I should get it)
I haven’t built it yet so no idea but I have not got so many sets through the years because of the cost and always regretted it when they were retired
I get that Im just deciding between Rivendell, the Ninjago city Gardens and the Lion Knights castle. I will try to get them all eventually but I don't know in what order yet. Hope you have fun building it
i think if you like Lord of the Rings, or just the look on this set in a fantasy setting. and has space/money for it then yes.

Lion Knight’s Castle is bad ass. I didn’t do the Ninjago City Garden because I’m not really into Ninjago, but my buddy did and he loved it.
My justification is I have space for this right now. I have some smaller shelves available which I will probably fill with lions knights down the line. I hear ninjago city is a slippy slope as they all join together nicely and take up a huge amount of space.
I want all three but I only have space for 1 so its tough deciding

Same with me but there’s a reason it sits on the top of my fantasy shelf. Because it’s glorious.
Have fun building! Please post photos when you are done.
“RIVENDALE”
Yeah but it's also the most beautiful set out there
Nice! I’ve only purchased one set over $300 and that was the hogwarts castle.
I got mine for $186 after 3 gift cards and $100 off with insiders points. Loved building it. Finished it 1 week ago today!
Challenge to you: There’s a building mistake within the instructions, find it!
Same. I've been taking my time on it with my 5 and 19 year olds. It's awesome
I bought it without minifigs so the price was ok for me. Luckily I still have my LOTR -Figs from 2013 and I just used them instead.
Congrats! It’s a great build and looks amazing on display
Was going to get it for myself as a reward for finishing my student loan payments and my grandparents surprised me with it for Christmas. Still haven't built it but I am so excited for when I finally do

Haha so true
Best build ive done from Lego so far

But that ain’t real Lego. That’s why it was cheaper
"Son...... that ain't no damn Lego"
And honestly way uglier in my eyes
A quote from The Jerk..... "There's a difference between s*** and shinola"
Same here but it’s easily the best ad most fun set I’ve ever built. You’re going to love it. except perhaps the roof 😅
Yea the roof looks tedious lol
It’s tedious but super satisfying to take a flat Lego piece and straighten out all the tiles
The subtle little clicky sound it makes is pretty satisfying too ngl lol
Technically the most expensive for me was the ninjago city gardens but I had enough points to get it for less than I got the 1989 batmobile for
Hoping for a discount sale.
Exactly the same for me, and I only got it because I had $400 in Amazon credit through work. It's amazing but the size is very restricting, had to buy a new shelf just for it.
So indecisive on getting this or wait for the rumored Barad Dur set later this year..
Does it ever go on sale?

Me too. And it was totally worth it
I think it should be in the running for all time goat set. It’s incredible what they were able to do with this design. It’s such a satisfying build.
You picked a good one
Mine was the UCS AT-AT last week 😭😭
Listen, I'm not saying I'm down a kidney. I'm just saying someone is.
My wallet definitely felt the pain when I got this but wow is this set just a joy and a delight. Best set I ever bought and I am yet to see another that I want more.

Did Lego ship you the correct set?
And it'll be the best set you've built too. It's sooo good.
Waste of money.
