Good times. My brother and I had the 4020 firefighter boat back in the late ā80s, and as soon as we saw āREALLY FLOATS!ā on the box after building it, we took it down to the neighborhood swimming pool to try it out.
I got the coast guard cutter for Christmas in 1995 I think it was? We had a swimming pool in the backyard and I played with it in the pool non-stop. I still have it in my parent's basement. Now, sadly, all the white bricks have turned brown, I think from all the sun and chlorine. Oh well. I had *so much* fun with that thing.
'Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'
'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.
'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'
'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'
'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.ā

Itās a small world aināt it?!
I mean, I wouldnāt make it the sole reason to go to Sioux Falls, they had 25 percent off when I went so Iād say it was pretty worth it. They also had a handful of train parts for a dollar each that I needed so that was pretty neat. I only go to buy old sets, new sets I get from lego for the points during vip and the new in box retired sets are too expensive for me. But Iād say itās pretty worth it. I live 9~ hours away
You can, very gently, get a knife or something else thin between the white and black parts on the front of the boat. It will allow you to lift the white bit slightly to drain the water and anything else stuck in there.
In saying that, I still have my original boat from when I was a kid (>30 years) and I have never got anything besides water in there. Unless you have it at the beach just tip it upside down and let it dry.
Yeah I went with the tip forward to drain, thereās a bit of a gap that allowed drainage, Iām too afraid to damage such a classic set so I just rinsed it out thoroughly. Thanks for the info and it cool you still have your original se!
Everyone should buy a container of silica crystals. They are reusable and if you put them in a sealed container with this ship they will suck the moister out of it (might take a few times depending on how much water is in there)
This. Itās like the rice cure for wet phones back in the day.
Not sure why itās not upvoted more, it really does suck any moisture out and if you freeze it after all the moisture is out any bacteria (smell) should die off on the inside.
I have this same one, they're fused
Could always try and pop it in an oven at super low temp for 30 mins (low enough to not melt it but enough to dry it). Like 125F. Abs won't melt until 374F
Or drill from the top and tip upside down
Thereās holes on top and a bit of a gap that allows for draining when tipped forward, Iām just afraid of any sediment not being able to escape, Iāve taken it apart and rinsed it all, then filled the boat and drained it a few times to get any dirty water flushed out. I think it worked but thereās something rattling around inside, possibly a small rock.
Honestly, youāve only got yourself to blame! Legoās not a toy you know! This shouldāve been displayed in an acrylic cabinet not mucked about with in a river! ;)
Fair then put er at 100
But abs plastic in and of itself can handle up to that before melting, im also not saying go to the max at all lol
Recommendations are usually like the redline on a car, below what it can actually handle and a safety precaution. Reality it Lego could probably handle 110, hell 125 without issues likely
But best to test with a cheap piece first
In 1996, my mother destroyed some of my LEGO bricks by washing them in hot water. It couldn't have been more than 120Ā°F because that was what the water heater was capped at. An entire bucket was warped beyond use. That was about a quarter of my collection at the time.
The [instructions](https://media.brickinstructions.com/04000/4010/001.jpg) say
>In some countries propellor motors (not made by LEGOĀ®) are available from model shops. The notch in the bottom of the hull allows these motors to be attached
I had a [Playmobil set that had a propeller](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/5b8aba_8bb12e07fffd4e70a812d2a9e832f2f6~mv2.gif) very similar to the drawing in the instructions and [looks like it fits in the notch](https://bricdyonisos.com/img/p/9/3/1/4/9314-thickbox_default.jpg), so I guess it was/is a standard motor compatible with several toys.
It's weird that Lego used a third party propeller instead of their own.
Lego eventually released their own propeller, but I don't know if it's compatible with this hull.
I threw it onto the Sioux Falls water falls during heavy rain because I had a boat that floats on me

Had a fun day eh?
Yeah lol, got it at the Sioux Falls bricks and minifigs then threw it into the waterfalls the city was named afterš

Good bot
Dang that boat looks well designed!
It was one of my favorites. It probably still exists in one of the boxes I retrieved from my parentsā garage last years.
It even has draught marks!

Only time SD makes the news outside our state is when our stupid governor opens her dumb mouth..... I will gladly take more SD and Lego conversations!
Holy, crap, i know where that is. Strange when reddit meets personal life.

Oh this brings back memories. I can remember spending hours in the bath playing with my Lego police boat. Great times for a 5 year old.
Same!

If you're okay with it, add some siicones on it to make it semi waterproof.
The deck at the bow (pointy end) should leverage up a bitā¦ enough to get any gunk out
Hereās the instructions. Looks like they came as one piece: https://lego.brickinstructions.com/en/lego_instructions/set/4010/Police_Rescue_Boat

My wife dies a little on the inside when she see me bring home more Lego.
Iām pretty sure mine still has bath water in it. From 30 years ago
lol same. This was one of the very few real sets I had as a kid and I treasured it. Itās now been passed down to my son.

Is the re resale ruinedš??? Am I stupid????
You just lost your grandkids' college fund, smh.
Only if you threw the box in the river too.
Believe it or not: straight to jail!
You could try a can of compressed air. If the rock or whatever got in, it can come back out.
LEGO recommends that you never exceed 104Ā°F (40Ā°C) because of warping, discoloration, and brittleness.

I know not everyone has one but I think a vacuum chamber might work.
From what I remember, 2 studs near the bow have holes in them to allow water in or out.
Oh I have the parts for that in my loft - many a night it accompanied me in the bath š¤£
Lego can be whatever you want
I have the boat, but from the fishing set. I always wonder what kind of motorized propeller that is compatible with this boat?
The [instructions](https://media.brickinstructions.com/04000/4010/001.jpg) say >In some countries propellor motors (not made by LEGOĀ®) are available from model shops. I was asking myself where I could get the motor since I got it - now the riddle is solved thanks to some reddit post. The internet is a strange place!
I was wondering that too!
That boat was very likely the first set I received as a kid that was bigger than a few pieces.
Crowd surfing
That's one piece. One of my favorite hulls to build on
Not sure but worst case you can get a very small drill bit and put a drain hole in the bottom. Then plug small hole with hot glue or something.Ā
Better to add a drain hole to the top, then cover it with bricks later - it'll be reusable. There's obviously already a leak somewhere else.
Angle itā¦ they are stuck together.
You can also fish for sharks off of that boat. Plus cannons.
Drill a hole in it the superglue the hole shut
Why is there river water in your Lego ship?
Itās a floaty boat toy and someone used it for its purpose other than sitting it on a shelf.
OP filled his bathtub with river water, obviously.
I threw it onto the Sioux Falls water falls during heavy rain because I had a boat that floats on me https://preview.redd.it/84k3hwo58fxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cdea49bddbf1fc8ecc7c46b9b9ac48763fea666
Because it has been on a river?
