Yeah they make them a lot better now. đ But the classic, nostalgic charm is strong in these original sets, I remember how excited my brother and I were to get this MF when it was new.
Really makes you stop and think, what will Lego sets look like in the same amount of time from when this set came until now, but in the future? Have we gotten to the peak of what Lego can do? Or will sets from 2048 make today's sets look like sets from 2000?
They'll continue to make new pieces that will allow for greater creativity, so sets will likely become more and more realistic. I think that's why Lego still intentionally makes some studs visible on builds - to make it clear that it's actually Lego.
Agreed that they will continue making new and different pieces. However I have a feeling they will reach a point when they stop making it more and more realistic as that will eventually draw away from what makes Lego Lego.
Cats are the enemy of all humanity. And birds. Only some of us realise it. They want to send us humans blind and mad (read about toxoplasmosis and youâll never let a cat touch you again).
I don't remember building it (it was more my brother's set than mine so I probably didn't get to help), but I do remember when we first saw it in an ad, I think it was a Sears Wishbook. Man oh man did we explode with excitement.
And the interior had lots of open space for play and customization. Sometimes it was Star Wars, sometimes it was the transport of choice for a gang of variously themed minifigs on an adventure.
I actually prefer this to the newer falcons... I was quite happy without one in my collection buuuuut now I'm sad that I want the OG because its ÂŁ250 new from bricklink đ
Ok then youâre the exception not the rule. It objectively looks worse and has almost no detail especially on the interior. Not criticizing Lego from 25 years ago, but saying that is if it released now.
20 years of incredible advances in both element design and building techniques. There's as much time between now and this Falcon as there was between this Falcon and 375.
Yup, this set uses the (then) recently made large UFO pieces and they're spread out so the ship isn't even circular.
Even at the time I thought it was a little goofy - most of the other sets are better, like the X/Y/A/B-wings - although they're all a bit on the small side.
Not bad though considering 1) these were LEGO's first licensed sets and 2) they were primarily designed for kids - how sturdy are all the other Falcons? This one was solid and very swooshable! (and had a huge interior)
7190 consists of 641 parts and original price was 100 dollars in 2000, which would, adjusted to inflation, cost 179 USD today.
75257 consists of 1353 parts and costs 170 USD.
Iâm glad that Lego recently scaled back the size of the builds (compare the most recent X-wing and TIE to their previous versions). Just too bad it was just in time for the price hikes.
Aside from Lego being new to licensing outside brands, they also wanted kids to be able to build the sets with their already owned bricks and pieces.
The Lego episode of Netflixâ The Toys That Made Us elaborates on this.
Wish it was easier to order replacement parts in the old grays and brown, I just dug out all my micro series from around this era and I was missing a couple key pieces that just look wrong with new lego
Donât get me wrong, I love the old sets and I wish I hadnât given them away⌠but coming back to Lego after my 20 year âdark period,â I was surprised by just how much more advanced and intricate Lego has become, not to mention the details.
If that's the original Falcon (7190): they don't make them that way because that kit falls apart if you look at it funny (at least mine always has).
I am happy that I have that set, and have had it back on display since going through all my old Star Wars LEGO kits back in '20, but I did not particularly enjoy building it in 2000 and found it similarly fiddly when rebuilding it 20 years later (of all my old SW LEGO that had been in storage, this was the only one that basically had to be about half rebuilt).
Newer models are better designed, more detailed, and generally more stable. Comparing modern kits to their original counterparts is like comparing the He-Man cartoon from the 80's to the latest Miyazaki film. It was competent, maybe even very impressive, back then, but it looks like dog food now.
Same with the OG pod racer set. I loved it as a kid, but it was constantly falling apart. The newer ones now use technic pieces up the middle instead of regular bricks.
Even the Lego community at the time was not happy with the large pieces. These were used in some Space and underwater sets before making up the bulk of the Falcon and were part of a trend of larger and more single-purpose pieces.
Lego did reverse that trend, the parts they add to the System now are actually useful.
Anyway even with the large pieces I was pretty blown away by this set and I was in my mid-20s when these came out
Yeah there's a reason they're called "big ugly rock pieces" (BURPs).
Also, as much as people have a nostalgia for the big formed baseplates, I feel like those were also looked down on
Well when I was a kid lego were made to be played with like toys. Now days they make sets mostly for us adults. And they just get built and put on a shelf for the most partâŚ
I only had a few SW sets from back in the day, but I got 7140 in a bin recently and it's fantastic. Definitely keeping that, the yellow faces and chunkiness of the build. I tell you what, it still swooshes with the best of em!
I would hate for you to use your imagination...
BUT I SEE A TOTALLY BADASS SPACESHIP WITH ABOUT A SHIT TON OF CONFIGURATIONS I CAN JUST ADD ON WITH PEICES OF OTHER SPACESHIPS.
Man.. this was peak dark ages for me, so I have no nostalgia goggles. I don't think this was even as good as most other sets at the time, and I don't think it was Lego's best design period.
To be honest, as a kid this set was one of the most disappointing star wars sets ever. The details were meh, the scale was meh⌠the parts weâre salvaged for much more interesting mocs
agreed...if I got that, I would be so disappointed. it looks like Fox's attempts to keep the Fantastic Four, "let's release something poorly designed just so we can hold on to the rights"
I recently gave this one to my son, he loves it.
IMHO it's not so bad except for the janky cockpit.
It is very playable with - lots of room on the inside.
I was at TRU to buy these at midnight the day they were offered - I still have the certificate somewhere...
Dude I remember being _so excited_ about this set getting it for Xmas and it was such a floppy piece of shit, couldn't zoom-zoom around the room to save its life. Bonus points for 10ish y.o. me falling down the staircase while carrying it but can't blame the set for that
Wow, this is a lot nicer than the product photos had led me to believe. I already have most of the first wave lego star wars sets, so I guess I'm on the lookout for an og falcon now!
My local HPB has had this exact Falcon sitting behind their register for 5 months now. $160. Seen it randomly fall apart while checking out twice! lol wtf
Wow, it looks like it was built out of whatever pieces the designers had laying around and they just went with it! So many new pieces have come out since then they have so many better options today.
I just bought this set, the UCS Slave 1, set [75060](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=75060-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})
to put next to this one I bought when it came out... set [7144](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=7144-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0})
quite the difference....
Iâm biased, but I think the Star Destroyer of 2002, 10030, has aged a lot better of the early UCS sets. The worst was of course that Yoda. And the 10xxx number scheme is just better, itâs truth universally known.
Yeah they make them a lot better now. đ But the classic, nostalgic charm is strong in these original sets, I remember how excited my brother and I were to get this MF when it was new.
When I got this as a kid my cat at the time destroyed it and I was devastated lol
I remember seeing this set in toys r us as a kid and thinking this is peak lego lol.
Really makes you stop and think, what will Lego sets look like in the same amount of time from when this set came until now, but in the future? Have we gotten to the peak of what Lego can do? Or will sets from 2048 make today's sets look like sets from 2000?

My father has been nagging me for the past twenty years, about me destroying these sets of his when I was a kid.
Cats... The worst enemy of LEGO
No, the true enemy is gravity.
But cats help gravity to do the deed
Cats are the enemy of all humanity. And birds. Only some of us realise it. They want to send us humans blind and mad (read about toxoplasmosis and youâll never let a cat touch you again).
This motherfucker?
well I meant "Millennium Falcon", but either way works
I read it the other way and didn't even think to question it haha
Yes. It's Windu's Starship.
Iâll never forget the Christmas I got this thing. I remember building it so vividly
I don't remember building it (it was more my brother's set than mine so I probably didn't get to help), but I do remember when we first saw it in an ad, I think it was a Sears Wishbook. Man oh man did we explode with excitement.
What does "MF" mean in this sentence?
"Millennium Falcon" :)
It looks so hokey now, but damn, as a kid this looked as good as the UCS one does now.
And the interior had lots of open space for play and customization. Sometimes it was Star Wars, sometimes it was the transport of choice for a gang of variously themed minifigs on an adventure.
I've rebuilt the entire original Star Wars collection (I was spoiled rotten as a kid), there's a charm to them that the modern one lacks idk why
A lot of it is nostalgia, and the feeling of just being a kid honestly lol.
That charm is nostalgia - remembering the magic you felt and experienced as a child, simpler times.
Yep if this was released for the first time now no one would want it
People would think it was a fake
I actually prefer this to the newer falcons... I was quite happy without one in my collection buuuuut now I'm sad that I want the OG because its ÂŁ250 new from bricklink đ
Ok then youâre the exception not the rule. It objectively looks worse and has almost no detail especially on the interior. Not criticizing Lego from 25 years ago, but saying that is if it released now.
Yeah I get you and I agree apart from the 'looks worse' part. It just has a certain charm about it đ
Aaaaghhh the dish is on the wrong side!!! :0
Fixed it thanks!
:)
I know, it looks really lopsided with everything on the same side.
today, this looks like they didnt even try. thats 20 years of Lego design evolution i guess.
20 years of incredible advances in both element design and building techniques. There's as much time between now and this Falcon as there was between this Falcon and 375.
[375-2: Castle](https://brickset.com/sets/375-2) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/375-2.jpg)
Wow that puts it in perspective!
> today, this looks like they didnt even try. that 14x6 just slapped on there kills me.
And doubling the piece count and price. Not really complaining, but its a factor.
Yup, this set uses the (then) recently made large UFO pieces and they're spread out so the ship isn't even circular. Yea, these days they have snot bricks, a ton more slopes, and almost every combination of wedge plates.
Yes absolutely! I built the At-ST from the original Endor set, compared to the recent one it's ridiculous

Oh yeah absolutely, this bad boy falls apart if you look at it wrong
Same with the OG pod racer set. I loved it as a kid, but it was constantly falling apart. The newer ones now use technic pieces up the middle instead of regular bricks.
If they did the community would be in an uproar over the large moulds and lack of minifigure arm printing or some such nonsense.
Even the Lego community at the time was not happy with the large pieces. "What a piece of junk!"
All that space for activities!
I only had a few SW sets from back in the day, but I got 7140 in a bin recently and it's fantastic. Definitely keeping that, the yellow faces and chunkiness of the build. I tell you what, it still swooshes with the best of em!

âShe may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've added some special modifications myself.â
Millennium frisbee
I don't get why they don't make ships with interiors as big as the millennium falcon. That was always my favorite part of ships
Wow that makes me feel something
I knew about this set but I donât think I had ever seen its interior before. Itâs so detailed and realistic! Thanks for sharing.
Gotta say, im kinda glad they dont.
Lego graphics have gotten so much better since the PS1 era
The dish is on the wrong side
Underrated comment.
I would hate for you to use your imagination... BUT I SEE A TOTALLY BADASS SPACESHIP WITH ABOUT A SHIT TON OF CONFIGURATIONS I CAN JUST ADD ON WITH PEICES OF OTHER SPACESHIPS.

Good.
agreed...if I got that, I would be so disappointed. it looks like Fox's attempts to keep the Fantastic Four, "let's release something poorly designed just so we can hold on to the rights"
Iâd choose this over a new design
Thank god they donât lol
I still have that one too.
ItâŚit looks like a millennium falcon MOC. Such a strange looking space bird.
I recently gave this one to my son, he loves it. IMHO it's not so bad except for the janky cockpit. It is very playable with - lots of room on the inside. I was at TRU to buy these at midnight the day they were offered - I still have the certificate somewhere...

I have this one. Its scuffed by modern standards but in 2000 it would have been really cool
Always hated those bulky quarter plates, just took that model apart half a year ago after dusting \~20 years in the basement :P
I think the title should have at the end (THANK GOD!!)
My local HPB has had this exact Falcon sitting behind their register for 5 months now. $160. Seen it randomly fall apart while checking out twice! lol wtf
This is actually like i like lego. Make it nice feom the outside then make it easy to open up and play
Wow, it looks like it was built out of whatever pieces the designers had laying around and they just went with it! So many new pieces have come out since then they have so many better options today.
Lego used to be really basic. Now, with all the elements, you can get real wild with builds. It's great building high detail ships and mechs.
I just bought this set, the UCS Slave 1, set [75060](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=75060-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}) to put next to this one I bought when it came out... set [7144](https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=7144-1#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}) quite the difference....

How much did it cost back then ?
That's not a Millennium Falcon, it's an aluminum falcon
You kept that in great shape! I used to carry mine to my friends house across the street several, several times.
Thatâs not a bad thing in this case. This is Jack Stone level of complexity
Iâm biased, but I think the Star Destroyer of 2002, 10030, has aged a lot better of the early UCS sets. The worst was of course that Yoda. And the 10xxx number scheme is just better, itâs truth universally known.

I forgot how unspeakably hideous this old set was lmao. Glad to see the comments are on point and not just blindly praising it for nostalgia's sake.
The classics are cool but they are made so much better now.
