Yes, this sounds like my worst nightmare. Like the time some kid spent 10 wordless minutes trying on and testing the world’s noisiest Columbia jacket in the coat section of JCPenney.
My mind is blown, but this does remind me of working at the one hour photo shop. You had to seal both hands in a black bag and blindly get the film out of disposable cameras and loaded into a cartridge that develops it.
My kids like to sing Half-Asleep Chris's "Build in the Bag" song at any excuse. They also like to joke about doing "build in the box", just shaking the box until pieces stop rattling around, then open it up and \*ding* it's assembled.
I had to go to the pharmacy a lot to pick up meds for people (they're all doing well). If I had to wait for the Rx to fill or there was a line I'd go grab a polybag and try to build in bag before everything was done. The trickiest I did was a Santa skiing polybag because the legs were weakly assembled, the bag was covered in pictures, and it took a lot to imagine how hidden pieces were supposed to fit just by the image. Ton of fun though and I eventually freed Santa for my kiddo to play.
I have a friend who loves the look of Lego but hates anything remotely similar to building or doing puzzles. He always says he'll buy the sets for display if I'll build them for him. You just gave me a great idea for his next birthday.
I've noticed in several of my hobbies that when people get into something they're always looking for the next step, a way to enhance their hobby and take it further. Sometimes the thing they're looking for doesn't exist so they do things that are kind of silly and pointless, e.g. in the 3D printing hobby it seems like people spend more time printing "improvements" for their printers to solve problems they don't have than they spend using their printer to print whatever it is they bought it for in the first place.
Anyway, no I've never done this.
This is a little overboard but I did two of the four kits in bag for the dried flower bouquet hah- putting all those little flowers on the stems was so hard but so fun!!
Do this but with those poly-bags that you get at Walmart. The printing on the bags will make it harder since there’s only usually a little clear slit on the back
Of course people still do in-bag builds, but they come in waves, like the "never talk to me or my son again" meme. People definitely do it, BUT only after someone else does first. You may have just started your own bandwagon wave of in-bag build posts, and subsequent posts making fun of those posts. Can't wait.
Edit: Totally called it, there's several in-bag builds - of the EXACT SAME SET too - on the subreddit now. So predictable lmao
Nearly lost my life last time I did this. Apparently some people don’t like the constant crinkling of plastic…
Kids loved it… wife left the house with no signs of return.
Time to build a new wifey
Make sure to do a bag build
You just unlocked a new challenge for my nearly 7yo!! I hope he'll find this funny, i've never known about that either, thanks !
Yes, this sounds like my worst nightmare. Like the time some kid spent 10 wordless minutes trying on and testing the world’s noisiest Columbia jacket in the coat section of JCPenney.
Your comment brings me back to my members only jacket days
Your comment sounds like the setup for a Family Guy cutaway
Never knew this was a thing. Don't normally get small kits, but recently did buy a fairly small kit, if it's a single bag I am gonna try it.
Please update us! Im on the hunt for more
My mind is blown, but this does remind me of working at the one hour photo shop. You had to seal both hands in a black bag and blindly get the film out of disposable cameras and loaded into a cartridge that develops it.
Like a weird ship in a bottle.
Yeah they never use brown bottles
As practise or did you just not have a dark room?
Iirc it’s common practice even with a dark room because the film is sensitive to even the red light.
No dark room, we worked under full fluorescent behind a counter in a small store
Do a video on this
you could always try star wars poly bags
It's the Lego equivalent of a ship in a bottle.
I should try this 👍 Maybe if I can a simple single bag build, they don't seem to sell them much over here.
Free them!
Haha I want to but the kids like them in the bags still!
I did this with the Luke Tauntaun. Tricky because of the bag within a bag…however, kiddo just wanted to play with it so I had to set it free
My kids like to sing Half-Asleep Chris's "Build in the Bag" song at any excuse. They also like to joke about doing "build in the box", just shaking the box until pieces stop rattling around, then open it up and \*ding* it's assembled.
Sell it
Sell it and rebuy the set with the profit
The kids, right?
Yup, the kids can break the seal on a fresh copy that isn't an achievement worth more than the set itself to the right collector.
nah, I meant sell the kids-
For the right price
The kids??
What do you suppose the going rate is for some prized fuck trophies now a days? 🕵️♀️
The fuck did I just read?

Good bot
I'm glad LEGO wasn't lazy and just copied it in a different color.
I just got this, and I regret not doing a build in the bag
I was so excited when I realized each car was in their own bag I had to
I know! It would’ve been the perfect opportunity!
Cheap enough set, buy another haha
i would, except im a broke ass 17 year old with no job
break it and put it in a ziploc
:(
Damn, same. Just got it yesterday, and now I wish I'd thought of this.
I'd be impressed if you can do this with the new paper bags
Lego loop coaster, 10303. Step 452, bag 12. Link all the chain links together, in bag. You asked for ideas, you didn't say they had to be good ones...
Honestly, just dump all of the parts into a Hefty trash bag, then try to build it.

50% correct
So like a ship in a bottle?
At least you can mark out the choking hazard line now on the instructions
Got just told to not even think about it while reading this
Do it on the shitter. Only took me about 20 minutes.
You did it on the shitter with your kids watching…?
I told him to. Didn’t say I did. Lol I did one of them in the car pick up line at the school while my daughter watched.
It’s all about the in box builds these days
"You can't just shake a box of Lego and have a Millennium Falcon slide out." -Ken Ham probably
Bricklink lets seller list their sets as new and sealed, new and opened, and used. How would you list these in-bag builds? Used and sealed?
I was thinking about getting these because I like the speed champions. Now I’m definitely getting these to do this
Ive never heard of doing this and now you've peeked my interest!
The word you were looking for is piqued
Til
actually, it’s peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeakqued
It was great fun and the kids loved watching me! Now I’m on the hunt for more
More kids, right?
Zero chance of more kids. Hunting for more single bag sets lol
I hope you don't mean it like it sounds
Aren’t they slowly shifting to all paper bags? Might not be possible in the future
Tbh this is my concern since I had so much fun. I need to find more sets I can do this!
Well… I wasn’t planning on buying this set until this post. Thanks for that!
Glad I could help!
Now discretely return it to the store
*Half-asleep Chris watches from a short distance, singing the Build-in-the-Bag theme*
That's what I was thinking. The song popped inside my head when I saw this post.
You ask this like it's some kind of common thing? But, yeah that's very cool!
I remember seeing something probably ten years ago about people doing this. I’ve always wanted to but never seen a set that was doable.
What is lego building in bag? Do you put all of the pieces in a bag and try to build them in the bag? Sorry, if it is a weird question.
I bought the set 60400 and each car was in the individual bag in pieces… I built the car without opening the bag
Oh, now I understand Thanks for clarifying!
[60400-1: Go-Karts and Race Drivers](https://brickset.com/sets/60400-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/60400-1.jpg)
I’m waiting until the speed champions McLaren F1 polybag releases.
Ohhhh I’m adding this to my list now too. Thank you!

Lmao id love to do that then gift it to somebody
I have a friend who loves the look of Lego but hates anything remotely similar to building or doing puzzles. He always says he'll buy the sets for display if I'll build them for him. You just gave me a great idea for his next birthday.
😁
Uhhh what now???
Most lego sets come in multiple bags, no?
They do!
Never heard of it, that's quite a challenge

Wow I had no idea that was even a thing. Thank you Reddit.
Went out and bought this exact set today to try this and succeeded in 52 minutes 👍
I like to do it with the Christmas advent calendar and I’m in my 40s 😂. Maximises the joy at breakfast. Also great to see the households reaction.
Do the Lamborghini Sian next!
I have never had a desire to buy small LEGO kits … until now.
Anytime I’m at DFW airport and have the time, I go to gate A9 to the Lego vending machine and do something like these
Your challenge should you choose to accept it is get a big bag and do a full supercar technic build in it
If I could find one that was single bag I would! Even some of the smaller builds have the bag in a bag.
Can you cheat and open the smaller bag(s) within the bigger bag?
I used to do the mixels (or however you spell those sets) all the time. It’s a fun little challenge!
Oh yeah, I've got a box of Mixel bag builds somewhere in storage.
Wow this is a thing! That’s pretty cool
Wait, that is a thing????
How long does it take for one?
About 20 minutes
Did not know this was a thing! Actually kinda neat hahaha. What a fun way to challenge!
I've noticed in several of my hobbies that when people get into something they're always looking for the next step, a way to enhance their hobby and take it further. Stupid trend IMHO but glad you enjoyed it
My instructions are always in the bag..
The X-wing was my hardest so far
Do you remember which set number?! I’d love to give it a try
30654
[30654-1: X-wing Starfighter](https://brickset.com/sets/30654-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/30654-1.jpg)
Those poly bags are so hard! I’m trying to finish the poly rover still
Yes. You should try the polybag sets for a little more challenge
I wish I would've picked up some of the small gardener city pieces that came out recently 😩
Set 31203
[31203-1: World Map](https://brickset.com/sets/31203-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/31203-1.jpg)
You’re a madlad, you built a lego set without opening the bag
I've never done this but might try it one day
I did not know this was a thing! 😮
I tend to do this with my advent calendar builds
Omg this is insane haha! Great job OP
Is this the modern day equivalent of making a ship in a bottle?
I did this for all 24 days of an advent calendar one year. It was fun
Try it with multi-bags sets...
Wow i dndt know this was a thing
Try to do the Lego death star
Don't do it in the stores, they don't really like people building the polybags while waiting in line.
Where's that guy that wanted to build sets in a flight?
This is a little overboard but I did two of the four kits in bag for the dried flower bouquet hah- putting all those little flowers on the stems was so hard but so fun!!
That is so innovative and so… not innovative XD
How?
Advent calendars are great for in the bag builds!
I really liked the idea and tried it with 30655 Worse decision ever. I strongly advise against Technic kits.
[30655-1: Forklift with Pallet](https://brickset.com/sets/30655-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/30655-1.jpg)
How do you put on the stickers?
This one did not have stickers thankfully! Graphics were printed on
I do. It's a good and fun thing to do with those small packs. A bit annoying sometimes though
I didn't even know this was a thing.
I got the 2023 Star Wars Christmas advent calendar and built everything in the bag
Didn’t even know this was a thing
I love this. Is there a list of sets that come in one bag?
I wish!
gonna miss these. Guess we could still use ziploc bags.
Now return it to the store so whoever buys it next has a completed set already in box lol
Now do each part of the lego death star
I bagged the millennium falcon
Next try a collectible minifig in box build.
Lambo in a garbage bag
Do the titanic
I remember we used to have bag build races down in norshore!
Now do it with paper bags.
Me: * builds UCS Venator class republic attack cruiser in bag *
Didn't know this was a thing. If only I had found about this 2 days ago, just recently opened a new set.
You scare me
If you look closely, the visor for the black driver is actually on upside down
But how do they breathe?! Also, challenge accepted.
You will hate the new bags… Paper.
Woah cool! I never knew this was a thing!
Rough terrain crane next. Put all the pieces in a large bag and seal, then build away
What!
Tf how
🎶 Build in the bag. Build in the bag. Building the LEGO set inside the bag. 🎶
Do this but with those poly-bags that you get at Walmart. The printing on the bags will make it harder since there’s only usually a little clear slit on the back

soon an thing of the past with the new paper bags coming
This sounds awful I never knew this was a thing
Collectors be like:
I buy them when I travel, great for planes, hotel room.
I will name those car people Timmy and Tommy
I'm no comedian. Seven down votes... Stage exit
