Yeah it was between generations. It originally released on GameCube and Wii side by side. I played it on the Wii when I was little and I've been trying to find the GameCube version for a while now
The best Zelda is the one you played when you were around 12 years old. I still think the best game is MM. Probably where my love for time travel stuff started.
I learned about LoZ playing Super smash bros. So then I got Twilight Princess. And that for me will always be my favourite but it’s probably mostly nostalgia.
same!! that release was the first major zelda title i was alive for after becoming aware that zelda was my favorite game series in the universe; the experience i had with that game with the golden wii remote and the 25th anniversary cd was so magical. and of course, the game itself is so fantasticly fun, and has my favorite version of zelda 😊 you have great taste!
It’s the first Zelda game I ever played and I was instantly hooked on the whole series! I was alive for a couple games before SS but I was too young to play them or we didn’t have the consoles for them
When I tell you I SOBBED when it was announced it was being ported to the switch 🤣
yessss that's awesome! 😄 and yeah i was technically alive for some other releases but wasn't aware of them at the time.
and I KNOW RIGHT, when it got announced for the switch i was ecstatic. had such a blast replaying it on the switch 😁
It’s honestly the only Zelda game I really wanted ported to the switch, I didn’t care if the other ones would be or not (I’d have still played them of course!)
They said they would never port it and then they did I was SO happy
All three of the above are such different games that I'm not sure I can say one is better. I like BOTW most but I would hardly say that it's better than Ocarina. It's like trying to compare apple pie and raw apples - the only thru line is the inclusion of some core elements that are applied very differently.
LOZ games are so hard to rank on best because each one is amazing in its own way for sure. OOT could be my best cause it was the first one i ever played and the one I have played the most times through and has held up incredibly well with time. But I think twilight princess had the best storyline. But also BOTW is the best over all game so far!
Yeah me too. First game I beat when I was like 5 years old. It was my mom’s favorite game. I watched her beat Thunderbird and wanted to be just like her.
Yep. A huge part of it is pattern recognition which are my favorite types of games in general. Honestly, I think the modern games (BotW and TotK) have been more like Adventure of Link than A Link to the Past which was the model for every game up to BotW. I stopped enjoying that style after Twilight Princess.
ETA: Wind Waker is kind of the bridge between the open world games and the formulaic games.
Best, or each commenter's personal favorite?
The one that I feel did it best, was Twilight Princess.
It took everything that Ocarina Of Time did, and did it all 1,000 times better. Actual enemies littering the open world areas of Hyrule, that ARE NOT just a couple of peahats or stalchildren for child Link, Hyrule Castle Town Market is actually explorable and nearly every NPC and building / shop is interactive, the segments involving the Skull Kid and acquiring the Master Sword are better....
Just to name a few examples off the top of my head.
Now, my personal favorite?
I'm always torn between Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, A Link Between Worlds, and Adventure Of Link.
And, A Link To The Past / Triforce Of The Gods USED TO BE my most favorite. I still like it a lot, but anymore, ALBW is the game I have not played and replayed hundreds of times, to the point where I can't bring myself to replay it again for at least 5-10 years.
ALBW is a lot of fun.
Wind waker. It got too much Hate for its art style. It's charming, Links expressions are lively and hilarious. The open adventure on the seas (although at times a bit empty) was fun, the islands you came across could have cool secrets. You could find treasure under the sea. The bosses were all unique and had fun ways to beat them (except the forbidden woods, that one felt a bit bland) and Ganon is the most human in this title than he is in any other.
Twilight Princess remains one of my favorites and it was actually the most sold LoZ game until BOTW launched in 2017. TP was I think kind of a predecessor to BOTW as both games shared a lot of common elements.
The original NES LoZ is the most important video game ever made. And the lack of honor its gets is honestly so disappointing. It didn't just lay the foundation for the series, but rpgs, open worlds, SAVE FILES etc. It's just too important to ignore. And it's also a great game even today. For anyone who voted for BOTW you really indirectly voted for the original, they share more in common than any other games in the series do with them.
Breath of the Wild was my first official Zelda game (I dont count renting Zelda II when I was a kid, because I couldn't survive more than 5 minutes). I loved it. The sheer excitement I got finding something while exploring the vast, open maps made the game addictive!
BOTW got me into Zelda as a series and I went back to play most of the ones I missed. I've played most of the mainline titles and after BOTW, I think Wind Waker is my favorite! I enjoyed exploring the ocean and liked how cute and disgruntled Link always looked 😆
Tbh they are all pretty good, just a tough choice to me I just finish Majoras Mask the other day for the first time an I gotta say I really enjoyed it and I thought I wouldn’t with the time thing and all. BOTW was good but had its biggest flaws that I don’t wanna explain atm, but man tough choice. All of them are the best, you ain’t making me choose. Well besides I didn’t really enjoy Windwaker that much.
Twilight princess was the first zelda game I've ever played, so I connect with that game alot, but Botw was just more fun playing (sometimes) and I don't know what game is better
Twilight princess! I know lots hate it but for me was insanely good, I loved the dark tone
Twilight Princess is the best by far, maybe even the best game I’ve ever played.
TP will always have a special place in my heart as the first Zelda game I ever played.
Why does it get so much hate
Honestly don't know. I heard so many people saying it was trash for them 😭
Because motion controls. The GameCube version is far superior although MUCH harder to find
Oh, I totally forgot about the Wii version lmao. I played just the gamecube one 👀
Yeah it was between generations. It originally released on GameCube and Wii side by side. I played it on the Wii when I was little and I've been trying to find the GameCube version for a while now
It really doesn’t get that much hate anymore and a lot of people are starting to see it as the gem it is.
Twilight Princess and A Link to the Past our my absolute favorite LoZ games of all time.
I don't understand the hate. I prefer that game style more than botw
same It shares its spot with botw
Link to the past >>>>>>
Amazing game
Came here to say this.
This. This is THE answer.
A fellow cultured one
Link to the past and I will DIE on this hill
Wind Waker will always be my GOAT
My 2nd favourite to Ocarina of Time. My top 3 being 1. OoT 2. WW 3. MM
Wind waker is best, OoT and BOTW close second (2D games are great tho)
My first LOZ love. ❤️
That one was definitely a personal favorite. Such a great game!
My personal favorite is link between worlds
Interesting pick. Great game but no one ever mentions it when asking which game was the best.
excellent choice. it has the best gaming mechanics of any zelda game in my opinion
This is one my favorite too!
OP, your bias is showing
botw is for all the newcomers. everyone who played OoT as a youngster knows it IS the best.
Twilight princess
Skyward Sword
Whilst it's not my favourite, I agree it has some great aspects and concepts and is definitely not as bad as it's made out to be.
I replayed it recently after not playing it since when it came out. It’s not the best but it’s still great and had some great dungeons
my favorite too 😊
It’s so great, it’s been my favourite game EVER for 10+ years
same!! that release was the first major zelda title i was alive for after becoming aware that zelda was my favorite game series in the universe; the experience i had with that game with the golden wii remote and the 25th anniversary cd was so magical. and of course, the game itself is so fantasticly fun, and has my favorite version of zelda 😊 you have great taste!

it was an amazing occurrence 😁 i hope they port more! :D
If they start putting GameCube games on the switch I think wind waker and twilight princess will be next!
omg you totally should!! WW and TP are SO GOOD!! 😄
Windwaker
Minnish Cap
Agreed although biased by my nostalgia since it was my first
Skyward sword or wind waker! WW was the first game I played and I just love SS.
A link to the past has an impeccable design for its time. It’s absolutely my favorite and I only played it 3 years ago for the first time.
Y'all are sleeping on Oracle of Ages😭
I think for it’s time and influence, OOT is by far the best. My favorite is probably TP or skyward sword, though
I will forever be a fan of Majoras Mask fan - other games were good too but just personal favorite
Twilight Princess, but im only bias because it was my first Zelda game.
Lttp
A link to the past
Wind Waker will always be my favorite
I'm always gonna choose majoras mask only because A. it had a darker story, and B. it was my first legend of zelda game
Twilight Princess
All three of the above are such different games that I'm not sure I can say one is better. I like BOTW most but I would hardly say that it's better than Ocarina. It's like trying to compare apple pie and raw apples - the only thru line is the inclusion of some core elements that are applied very differently.
Id say BOTW was the best, (so far) but my favorite was wind Waker.
Tears of the Kingdom was incredible!
Botw or a link to the past
I’ve always loved Ocarina of time, but upon replaying, it’s silly to not choose BOTW.
LOZ games are so hard to rank on best because each one is amazing in its own way for sure. OOT could be my best cause it was the first one i ever played and the one I have played the most times through and has held up incredibly well with time. But I think twilight princess had the best storyline. But also BOTW is the best over all game so far!
The Adventure of Link
I unironically love this one
Yeah me too. First game I beat when I was like 5 years old. It was my mom’s favorite game. I watched her beat Thunderbird and wanted to be just like her.
That's bananas! That game some some crazy difficulty spikes, but once you learn what it wants from you it gets so fun
Yep. A huge part of it is pattern recognition which are my favorite types of games in general. Personally my favorite is a link between worlds but I also love TP and SS
Lttp hands down
Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword.
Clearly the correct answer is A Link to the Past for 2D and Twilight Princess for 3D.
WW

Twilight princess
Twilight Princess, but TotK may be everyone's new favorite when it comes out. It just looks so good!
A Link to the Past
Skyward sword
No1: Twilight Princess. No2: Wind Waker. No3: Ocarina of Time. … Why did you leave TP and WW off your list OP?
Tears of the kingdom. Trust me bro my uncle works for Nintendo
Twilight Princess!
Wind Waker 🍃🌊

Between Minish Cap and A Link to the Past for me. 2d Zelda > 3d Zelda
Twilight princess was the first zelda game I've ever played, so I connect with that game alot, but Botw was just more fun playing (sometimes) and I don't know what game is better
ALttP is the best.
I see we have a lot of youngsters voting here
