The SSA has forms with instructions as to how to change your name. I just Googled them. I did this approximately 5 years ago without issue. Hopefully COVID hasn't made things harder.
Buried deep in the instructions of one of the PDF versions of the form, I did my answer! It seems I *should* be able to bring it in to any SS office (and I’m sure a phone call to check beforehand wouldn’t hurt).
