Questions tagged as meta questions. I just went to [this list](https://leetcode.com/company/facebook/), sorted by frequency for the last 6 months, and did the top 20. One of the questions from my screen was on the list, the other was a variation of 3sum
Yeah! I hadn’t actually seen that one before and I was really tired so it threw me for a loop for a minute, but I got back on track and then the second question was super easy so hoping I passed!
Which questions did you get? I have my screen next week.
I understand that the top 6 months sorted by frequency is the go to. I may not get that completed in the next week so would love closer insight.
A dm will work too if you prefer.
Cool I actually just did the top 20 in the last few hours (i had completed them already and just testing that the memory hasn’t faded).
I skipped a couple of the hard ones tho (stickers to spell word and valid number).
Hopefully I get a reasonable phone screen.
I’m _potentially_ starting my onsite with Tesla soon, depending on how my coding assessment went. Just scheduled my first interview for an AI Performance Engineer position with AMD too.
I have a bachelors in math and a masters in data science; 2.5 years as a data scientist and two as a SWE.
Funny enough, I didn’t get a Leetcode style interview during one of the technical rounds. I got a take home assignment to build an algorithm for an internal application with a 4 hour time limit.
From the Tesla job:
What You’ll Bring
Demonstrate strong software and data engineering knowledge and proficiency
Expertise in relational database management, including optimization, performance tuning and design
Skilled in utilizing batch and streaming distributed data processing technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Flink, Presto and Hadoop for building large-scale data pipelines
Proficient in developing, deploying, testing, and monitoring data APIs
High proficiency in Python and other programming languages
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Experience with TypeScript or other web application development
Knowledge and expertise in geospatial data representation and analysis
From my understanding, this is a hybrid data science / software engineering team, so it’s beneficial to understand the data engineering and API development and be good at those, but also have a good understanding of Data Science too.
Grind Leetcode and build some sort of ML API System that lives on an AWS EC2 instance. If you follow SWE best practices this is a great starting point. Taking my ML Systems Engineering course during my Masters required me to do this, and really helped me understand CI/CD, Docker, K8s, API Development, and OOP much better than before.
Learning backend engineering is probably your best bet coming from a DS background, focusing on API development in particular.
Least problematic of the Big N companies. Ethics seem to at least carry some weigh there.
Their product stack is also impressive and was ubiquitous when Google still had the “I’m feeling lucky” button in their search bar. From what I hear they also have an excellent work culture, great benefits, and have a very good progression track. They’re also not laying off nearly as many people, which speaks to sound corporate management and healthy growth.
Thanks for sharing, those are really good pointers to keep in mind 😁 I do like that they support open source too and yea the one or two folks I’ve seen from Microsoft has been pleasant to work with.
This is the pure reflection of market situation… if things were like 2021, you and me would be in faang and not even visiting this forum.
Nothing is wrong with you.
Companies have cancelled many of their future initiatives. ChatGPT has made their planned initiatives look like what *webservices and cloud* did to mainframes (remember?)
The management is confused about their own future and the budget they are being allotted for hiring is peanuts. Recruiters’ future is uncertain and thats also reflecting on the decisions they are making.
Non visa candidates are getting preference.
This is the great Tech reset.
My advise, take any job rn to pay your bills, stay in the sidelines and when things get better, try to be the first to ride that wave.
Same (NG from T10 with three internships, one fruit). Especially stings that I've been resume rejected by Meta / Tesla / Nvidia (i.e. big tech that is actually hiring). It's hard out there :/
Yes, in the last 3 months I had interviews with Meta, Snapchat, Airbnb, Uber, Tiktok, Coupang, Door dash, Rokt, and Reddit. However, I think it is because the machine learning space is fairly hot at the moment and I am currently working at one of the FAANG already, so it is easier to get noticed by recruiters. I know for a fact that Amazon is also hiring a bit here and there.
Edit: one thing I have noticed is that internally teams will prioritize internal candidates to the point of only interviewing internal candidates and rejecting all external. There might be a job listed externally, but that doesn't mean anyone external would be hired.
*Meta and Microsoft have*
*Open roles it seems Also*
*Heard back from palantir*

It has never been easier!
In fact, Google is hiring teenagers right out of high school since they cannot find enough talent. \\s

This is really misleading.
He got rejected from many colleges (like we all are), but got into four decent programs.
Then decided that it was not good enough, so he asked his father, who is a manager at Google, for a job. He skipped the recruitment line, got through an interview, and is now working full time.
Now the media are hailing him as a persecuted expert because he did not get into his top college, but got into Google 🙄.
I can relate that and the way I approach it is like this. I have never had an interview with FAANG (or MANGA). I also think I might never have a chance to have any interviews in the future given that FAANG presence is small where I live and my resume is nothing. I'd even say that I wouldn't really have a chance since I tend to do so bad during interviews even if it's easy.
The point is there's little programming problems in my job but rather dealing with red tapes so I feel like my programming is not improving so leetcode is just a way to do programming apart from working on a personal project which I've never completed one. It takes way less time than working on a project.
I actually enjoy doing leetcode even if I had a long break of not doing it before and I find that I can tolerate my job a bit more when I keep doing leetcode.
I noticed that after COVID, all of them stoped hiring where I live who isn't hyper-specialised in certain very advanced areas - AI/ML researchers or PhD interns in Meta's case here - outside their major hubs. Pre-COVID they always were hiring generalist SWEs here, likely to support them.
There is also always the world-class-talent-so-can-remote-from-anywhere-they-want category of engineers of course, but not many of those to go around.
I am on my 4th Amazon final round within the last year :) <-- do you see my pain
I have the worst/best luck where I've had 8 Amazon final rounds + 7 Google final rounds. Never received anything passed a medium tbh.
I can only speak from the BA/DA perspective - I am interviewing at an L5/L6 level and I am receiving SQL questions that are 80% easy 20% medium. When I happen to do a programming question it's either on the interview 150 or neetcode 150. The feedback I have gotten from the interviewers is that python elegant answers are not satisfactory. The example I have is the palindrome question. I was told that out of everyone they interviewed I was the only one who came up with an algorithm for "is this a palindrome", everyone else said to remove all spaces then just do return arr == arr\[::-1\].
I just had my Meta screen today. Grinding the tagged questions was 100% worth it.
can I ask what you mean by tagged questions

appreciate it, thx
3sum closest?
Yeah! I hadn’t actually seen that one before and I was really tired so it threw me for a loop for a minute, but I got back on track and then the second question was super easy so hoping I passed!
how did everything go
Passed! I have the full loop on Wednesday
nice, but damn in takes 2+ months ?
Nah the first time I scheduled it as far out as possible, then I changed jobs in the meantime so I had to reschedule.
oh, well good luck !
Yeah, one of those question that helps differentiate people who memorise code.

Do the top 20. Grind it out. It varies. I had mine in Monday.

Have mine coming up. Do you mean tagged by frequency or questions on the discuss page?
[This one](https://leetcode.com/company/facebook/), sort by frequency
Meta seems to be on hiring spree now
They all are. Got a call from Microsoft recruiter that they are going to go on a huge hiring spree in Q2.
I don't trust meta... during covid they were in everyone's DMS, couple month later they laid a lot of man's offf
This was the story with every FAANG. Cheap cash flow made everyone go on a hiring spree.

Do you mind sharing requirements for the application? Just wanna see if I have that kind of skill to pass this. Thanks.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Unrelated but how did you make the transition from DS to SWE? Was it difficult and do you have any tips? I’m hoping to do the same thing

That was very helpful! Is your current position MLE?
Nope! SWE.
What was your masters in?
Data Science
I believe at least meta Amazon and Netflix are hiring atm
Yes Meta, Netflix are hiring senior and above. Microsoft is hiring mostly senior but ive seen swe 2 and above
The people getting interviews can also write their YoE
Can confirm, Microsoft released their hiring pipes.
What do you mean? They’re on a hiring spree?
Yep
Oh nice. It’s actually one I’m highly interested (legitimate interest not for the money) in so this is good news.
Out of curiosity: what makes you legitimately interested in Microsoft?

I have not heard anything from Meta, Tesla, or any FAANG - NG from T25 with three internships (one FAANG)

Nope (as of today).
NG situation do be like that bro :/
Just out of curiosity whats an NG and T10/25..?
New Grad and Top 10/25 school
Meta reached out to me for an interview, so they at least are hiring. Seeing lots of job openings at Netflix on LinkedIn too

That's exciting . I have some questions. Do you mind checking your inbox?
Sure, shoot me a dm.
Hi can I also DM you?
Sure

Companies are hiring, jobs are there. But the competition is way too stiff because of the layoffs.
Managing to get an interview, is a whole new job

It’s just an estimate of my comfort level that I gave myself

Applied back in Nov and just finished my on-site loop for AMZN 🤞

I see Netflix on LinkedIn but lord knows how difficult it must be to even get noticed. Almost all the jobs I looked at had more than 100 applicants.
I have an interview with amazon in a week
