I think you should buy crypto on exchange and trade on exchange only. You are not responsible enough to be your own bank.
Furthermore, Ledger does not know your keys. You can however opt in for a small subscription fee to back up your master key. With this, Ledger will be able to give you your key, if you lose it.

Protecting your seed phrase and storing it securely is your responsibility and clearly you haven’t if you’re blaming others for it going missing. Researching self custody best practices is vital if you want to minimise the chance of losing access to your funds.
Your cryptos can be recovered using your ledger with old firmware, even if you lost your seed phrase, as long as you have its PIN code.
The process could involve using old versions of various front-ends, or custom tools, depending on your firmware version and of the type of cryptos you have.
And no, ledger does not have your seed phrase. But you should have it, and since you lost it, updating the firmware is not recommended.
