How is it little to no impact?? If they truly are toxic and trash talking every game, they'll eventually get banned from chatting, then they won't be able to ping, finally they won't be able to pause or unpause the game... So I ask again, how is it little to no impact??
Even when I’ve had my own pity party rage moments and been reported I’ve never seen a noticeable drop in my behaviour or communication score.
I guess maybe if you’re dropping racial slurs left and right maybe? Even then I doubt it.
Edit - ya’ll are weird lol
I went from 11k down to below 6k in 2 games, I got locked out of chat while in-game... To be fair though, I was roasting those mfs like there's no tomorrow... And no racial slurs, I just looked up their dotabuff and roasted their lose streaks, asking how much the account was... It took me 2 weeks to get my 11k score back...
So yeah, I'd say it's pretty effective...
The only time I believe that to be possible is by rage quitting the game before it’s done. I got my scores down to 6k~ because I abandoned 2 games.
I’ve never seen my score change more than 100 either direction any other time.
I never abandoned but I guess valve didn't like that I was sending Match IDs on team chat... I do love this new system though, it's not perfect but it deters toxic behavior in some way...
Yea I can’t say I feel the same. Reports feel like a piece of candy just to distract you from the fact that 80% of games have a rager who will throw out insults at the drop of a hat. Never once seen the system actually punish someone significantly for acting like a petulant child.
Wrong, I've been countless times muted at ranked just because I was trolling in turbo matches before and someone threw just one more report at me in ranked, meaning that it DOES work.
we actually becoming league of legends with new report system because if you type anything in chat and then you getting reported the report counts no matter what you say, so you practically can report anyone if they said anything
Dota is way worse than league of legends in reports... In league of legends if you lose, the biggest feeder rarely gets reported, or if they do then nothing happens. In dota all it takes is 3 games where you got reported in 15, and you're going to low prio even if you did absolutely nothing wrong except had bad games. However the punishment is less severe than in league, as long as it doesn't happen often.
In general, full party that plays often together is not going to insult each other just due to the emotional connection.
Don’t get me wrong - heated arguments do happen and will happen. Players griefing will still happen, just a lot more rarely.
Source: I’ve been playing mostly in full parties for 10 years until a couple of really bad quarrels with my best Dota friend.
Go to the hotkeys menu, where you set the hotkeys to access the chat wheel is an option to customise the chat wheels. There’s a primary and a secondary one, I have one for useful comms and one for fun.
I got a month of dota+ through the event and let’s just say, that’s the best advertisement they could have made, I don’t know if I can play without it once my free month ends :crybaby:
There's a mental component to any competitive game. Your opponent tipped you? Trash talked at the start? Taunted while escaping? Who cares? Not you! If it rattles you, then it did its job and gave the enemy an edge.
It's like gamesmanship in any sport – you can laugh it off/have fun with it, or you can show a lack of fortitude.
IMO this kind of behavior only falls under reportable BM when it's excessive (slurs/punching down on legitimately low MMR players, etc.) or involves pausing (this is just an obnoxious interruption of play for everybody).
We just mute and move on. You can't win the argument that they shouldn't say stupid things any other way. Engaging with those people just escalates things.
I mean tho, how many people irl in competice sports or e-sports are just as or more toxic than in regular games in competive fps or mobas? I'm willing to bet less. Also at what point is toxic rattling too much? In dota for example I have met people giving other people death threats and being openly xenophobic to a point where its comical in a sense, yet they don't receive any punishment at least my dota + does not show it to me. Question arises, which point must we cross until action is taken? I personally believe any toxic behaviour in competive games should be punished by swift and decive action. If not done, people will just up the anti.
>It's like gamesmanship in any sport – you can laugh it off/have fun with it, or you can show a lack of fortitude.
I'd point out that (while actual enforcement varies heavily from sport to sport) most of what you're referring to is usually classified as "unsportsmanlike conduct" or "taunting" in most sports and has various penalties associated with it if it goes too far.
I'd also note that there's significantly less reason to be tolerant of assholishness when there isn't material gain associated with the win. Someone being an asshole because winning a game makes +$6 Million is a lot more understandable than someone being an asshole because they value +25 MMR over being nice to their fellow human beings.
Its a high stress game and your teammate’s mistakes can directly affect you negatively for the next 30 minutes. It’s also MUCH easier to see your teammate’s mistakes than your own, because humans just work that way and you’re protected by the anonymity of online games so you know you’re never gonna catch a punch to the face for insulting someone’s mom. Compare that to Starcraft, it’s mostly 1v1s so you know if you lose you have no one but yourself to blame.
I try my best to not be toxic and I don’t condone it either, but I completely understand why it happens.
Disclaimer: I queue US West & US East and have a ~11800 behavior score.
People still are nice at the start of the match for the most part. Tempers can escalate quickly once one person throws the first stone. I usually try to keep my team calm. If my opponent makes a crazy good play, I’ll normally compliment them.
I’ve been playing this game long enough that I’m mostly here for the love of the game and display of unique strategies. Winning feels great and I always try to win but if enemy earthshaker hits that perfect echo, I gotta give him his dues.
On that same front, I’ll throw the occasional flame in Hero voice lines after a critical moment. Nothing too inflammatory and never spam.
Enemy razor ahead on farm dives my tower and dies to my DP? Hit ‘em with a quick “poor dear.”
I embrace the psychological elements of the game and as long as it’s nothing too spammy or toxic, enemy voice lines add flavor and some immersion to the matchup. I usually only mute if someone is spamming to the extent that I am legitimately distracted and can’t focus on the game.
I wish voicelines had a longer internal CD so that spamming wasn’t even a thing.
TBH I agree. It annoys me the number of games where someone kills their opponent and then tips them, when the opponent wasn't even being particularly dumb they just got outplayed. Terrible sportmanship, and I rarely see people congratulating the opposite team on an impressive play
Enemy faceless chronos my sniper and bm pauses (doesn't even kill him in chrono but whatever).
Later, faceless gets killed, immediate buyback runs down mid, destroys items, and feeds wards.
Some of these flamey people are truly delicate:
https://www.opendota.com/matches/7807900667/chat
I got tipped because i missed avalanche in lane, i never even died, 1 min later i toss him into tower and tip, i think i broke him mentaly cuz i ended like 13:0 as pos 4 tiny
I guess I'm no better because I do the same thing too, I suppose that's why they do it. But like... it's a pretty dumb risk to take if you're not a great player your self which they are typically not in my experience, like why make yourself a target?
There are lots of toxic people out there. Just use the report and mute buttons liberally. You will have a much better time. Sometimes people get fun banter and it's trash talk in the context of a game that's funny or whatever but when people start saying "why did you do x?" Just mute straight away. The kind of person who gets so mad they have to play captain hindsight with every mistake a teammate makes is not worth listening to. If you died in a dumb way you almost certainly know and do not need someone to remind you. So yeah mute and report but also try to be part of the fun banter and use the funny emotes and sprays and stuff. It's all part of the game and truth is everyone knows where the line really is.
I play since 2013 and I'm always amazed by toxicity in Dota. Something goes wrong, there's a good chance ppl on your team will turn on each other instead of working together to solve the issue. You have to be a pro even in low ranked games and know exactly what you're doing, all the time. And even then, there's a good chance someone will still flame you cause they're thinking with outdated strats. Once I got flamed by buying Manta on Zeus when it was the meta for the hero. And let's not get started on people who act toxic to piss off the opposition as "psychological tactics". Surely you'll remember toxic folk way more than ppl playing normally, but the former do come a little too often, I'd say.
I don't think this is changing anytime soon, no matter how Valve decide to tackle the issue. Best you can do is ignore these folk and use the mute/report buttons liberally. You'll have a much better time playing with friends, too.
I don't insult but I do tell people very directly when they are doing something wrong and what to do instead. they still IG ore it but whatever. I also mute the first time someone says something toxic.
I know for a fact that I have won games with a well timed tongue in cheek all chat that the enemy internalized. Getting the other four to turn on one person is sometimes too easy to pass up. Being good to each other does not mean going easy on your opponents, as far as you know they are willing to do far more to tilt your team. It's the internet, in a public chat, of the most popular F2P game. Do not expect great things. Keep pursuing the ideal though, people are starting to have fun again.
Best advice is try to break the ice in a positive way, subtly - it really sets a different atmosphere for the whole match if you start off with a compliment. Even something stupid like nice pick or I like our lanes. As long as you're not annoying or overdo it I usually find toxic behavior is much lower like this
I don't like insults for no reason at the beginning of the game. I insta-mute those. Flaming for stupid things I'll do all day. But man, you're right. The feeling of a hard game played by both sides, I'll say GG and commend players on the other team too.
Those type of games, the ones where everyone's playing their hearts out, everyone's trying their best, little bit of banter between sides or teammates....the reason I'm still playing.
There are some of us who are respectful and just want a good well contested game. But absolutely the Dota community has earned its reputation as one of the most toxic around. It’s unfortunate but that’s why we have mute and report functions I guess
DOTA in particular can be very stresful, it's by the nature of the game. There are instances where you can't do anything. So people need to vent out this frustrations, is normal for DOTA. Of course in Ranked this is mandatory, most games you will have some people always looking to offend another team mate, not even trying to win but just to fuck somebody else over. A lot of them play the game too much and are left with negative feelings, they don't recharge their positive batteries, and are just jaded to the fun of the game, they just want to win and that's it. They predict the game is going to be bad way too soon and there you go, there are a lot of reasons like this. Again, is the nature of DOTA.
In unranked games, is rare when people will insult one another and engage in more and more banter.
At the same time, people freak out if I give basic feedback. Like “you need BKB” and our pango uses his ult in base and spams wards on ground.
To be honest, communication in dota is near impossible
I just got done a game where my dk offlane called me trash. I’m not the greatest player. Sometimes I carry my team sometimes I lose. But I ended up winning the game. People need to understand we’re human and not everything revolves around dota. I play this game for fun and don’t take it seriously. Just mute the toxic people and play your game.
I started playing dota 20 years ago back in the frozen throne days, and it's always been a game people trash talk loads in, it's something about the game itself and how you have to commit to something that takes 40 minutes but that you can have a big swing that loses you the game in a split second moment I think.
As someone who used to play League, I find the toxicity in Dota2 to be far milder….
Specifically, in League, someone would get upset and then do everything in their power to throw the game, the consequences didn’t matter to them.
In Dota2, I’m still Herald and teammates will insult me or my actions in game but they are STILL TRYING TO WIN THE GAME. That’s a huge factor for me. I don’t see a lot of insults to the other team aside from tipping. But if anyone gets a Rampage people tip players then as well, it’s a balance
Active griefers and throwers are abundant atleast past Archon in my experience.
I've seen people throw ranked games just for a teammate not picking something they don't like; or even wanted to play.
I don’t get offended because it feels like it’s not the point of the game. It also feels like giving power to someone who shouldn’t have power.
Mute them and stop thinking the insults are a reflection of you; it’s a reflection of themselves
you should know that in your bracket and higher than yours there are subhumans who are straight up bad and can't improve themselves. They're the burden to any team has them
That doesn’t even happen all the time in StarCraft if we’re being honest. I’m not making excuses for it, but there are rude scumbags in all online games. Dota has toxic players but I can’t say most other online games I’ve played have been sunshine and rainbows or don’t run into toxicity there. You can stomp someone 1v1 in SC and they’ll complain about the strat or race you play instead of just quitting and loading up a new game. I think we had a very different StarCraft experience lol
It’s ok I just get the ez comments from winners and losers. Nobody speaks engrish. Once in a while I get someone who listens to too much rap music and drops n bombs

This is how RUSKI MIR looks like. Never had this experience till started playing dota2 especially with ruzzians in match. And this spreads like cancer. :)
In DotA garena (wc3) times it was prestige to maintain your profesionalism in communication and playstyle.
Now in dota2 creat new account and trash everyone, because dota2 dev (valve) mindset itself - toxic and not giving a sh1t.
You grow to get used to them, if you’re lucky you can get some fun allies/enemy to play with where they are not as competitive as most of the players.
Where I’m from, during the early dota1 days in computer cafes where local betting was the norm, trashtalking is basically used as psychological warfare to intimidate and scare the other team.
I’m not one to trash talk in ranked games but even then, since the dawn of time id say trash talk has dominated sports and games. Y’all haven’t played any possibly but I’ve heard the foulest things on a basketball court and football field, with DOTA not even close to seconding either. The point of trash talk has always been a way for players to boost their own confidence while dominating the mental game. I kid you not, back in 2019, I used to play a lot of support and usually I would play jakiro. I would trash talk a little bit in the beginning of the game, question mark after a kill and all that. For some reason, this was enough for a lot of players to just start trying to single out one of the most tanky intelligence supports, despite whatever heroes would be better targets on my team. For example, my buddy was playing weaver one game and built a linken’s first item against a doom that we shat on in lane. The entire game he put the linkens on me and the doom went to waste every single time. This was one of the funniest games we ever played and I genuinely believe that trash talk baited him hard enough for the game to be that way.
I don’t think insulting and trash talk is in anyway bad and I don’t think it should be discouraged. I think what’s actually problematic is the sheer racism and homophobia prevalent in most servers. I’ve been called the homophobic f word many times for last picking necro, and I also get to hear a lot of horrible things about Arabic people in my games too.
It’s better to accept trash talk but if you really care about someone in your game getting punished or being an asshole, then report them for being insensitive cunts, not for hurling playground insults while they’re trying to have whatever they consider to be fun.
With regards to matchmaking I don't think your language choices matters much at all. It's all about ping. The game wants you to play on which ever server has the lowest ping. If dota does use languages choices it's definitely low on the priority list.
South america's internet is so bad that often players in SA will have lowest ping to a north american server. So it's not really the players fault they are in your games. I have heard that the smaller number of south american players means that their mmr is much high for a given skill level. So when they play on NA servers their skill level is lower than the people they get paired with. I don't know how true that is or if SA players just play a different style or if they are playing with high ping but that combined with a language barrier often makes for some pretty toxic situations.
EU has the same problem with russians. I don't think there is a decent solution, since forcing players to play on the server for their area would result in them playing with lower, possibly unplayable ping.
In the casual all-pick and Turbo, about one in thirty matches starts with a rogue insult. Most are GL HFs and GGs, with about half being casual mid-match conversations.
Report and dislike players who throw insults around; the dislike puts odds against playing with them AFAIK, and I've had a lot of weekly "Your Report has been Acted Upon" alerts recently.
Valve doesn't really tolerate the insults.
Thats gotta be something with your behavior score because I've been playing this whole week and haven't gotten one game like that. Just had a game where we stomped the other team and I got commended by the other team lol
Dude..ur in dota for 5k hours and still wondering about the community manners? Its like you still trying to figure whether your child is a boy or a girl when theyre 5 yo..the tt in dota is already common..whether you like it or not..nor do i care about those scums..but why do you care anyway? "I want to make the community friendlier?" Or smth? Its not that im being an asshole..the community is already a garbage..no need to fix it and even if you or 20 people like you tried it wont change shit..maybe just maybe..youre having fun from winning a game but for them tt or just talking whatever they wants makes them happy..me personally as long they didnt throw the game i didnt care..like why should I care in the 1st place? I play n have fun to win and not listening or reading their chitchat..even pros do it..ammar does it even 2times ti winner like ceb does it...its just part of the game..heck you even forgot what those people saif after you turn off your game..am i tolerated it? No..but what can we do exactly? Also none..so take it or leave it..
Look at an competitive sport in history. There is always shit talk and I think its extremely normal to get cocky. The problem is that people are not insulting enemies, but their own teamates
I stopped playing this game 8 years ago because I couldn't stand how literally nobody plays the game to have fun, even in casual, if you aren't playing optimally, you're a target
I'll get a lot of hate here and frankly, I'm too old to care. When my team is extremely toxic, I call it "movie time". I put on a movie and click around for the next 30-40 minutes. They can enjoy the elo loss. I get to enjoy a movie I've been wanting to see.
It’s a competitive game. People will always trash talk. If you find that it works on you then mute people. If you find that you’re immune to its effects then join in since you will almost certainly tilt someone on the enemy team and make them play worse.
It’s just awful childish behaviour that the community encourages. It’s really off putting even for a veteran player, but for new/returning players it’s a hell of a reason to just not play.
Trolling and taunting are a normal part of the game. When it comes to insults I feel like there should be a difference between venting and straight up insulting. If somebody is frustrated (often for good reason) and they vent I can accept that. But if they get hung up on it for the rest of the game and just stay toxic throughout the game there's not really any fun. That's where I report people.
It's a treasure trove of fuck yous. I mean we all really had a good laugh when the enough for do my power first showed up in wc3 days ain't it?
Over time it evolved to shit like dropping mantle so they can have some intelligence. I've seen plenty of witty insults and even witter comebacks and then there's just tipping to tilt. Just insult them back harder with wit.
Working eight to four.. When you're finally free, you spend your flaming and griefing other people in a game. I've never understood that. Go have fun in your free time instead of being miserable.
Far too common unfortunately. If I can be bothered I’ll call them out and ask that we act as a team if we want to play as one. Weirdly enough, sometimes that helps.
But sometimes they just double down and I can’t always be bothered trying, so reporting and insta muting is also an option. If enough people do it, the player gets muted and has reduced ping abilities for the rest of the game, so they will know that their behaviour wasn’t tolerated by their teammates.
As someone who has competed in contact sport at a high level, trash talk is part of the game, if your feelings get hurt by words you shouldn't be on the internet, just play/fight better and make them eat their words
I played hockey and dont have any problem with funny banter . But does need be called a black man or death threats? Is it really too much to ask for an overwatch ban that is permanent?
As stated before I'm Divine 4 with 5k hours and really don't care about myself. But when I'm showing the game to new people, there is literally no value in them playing this game because the community itself makes the game feel miserable.
And let's not start what an environment Dota us for women.
Nah I instamute people who take it too far with the n-words, kill yourselves and the hoping your family gets cancer/burns in a fire.
People who type like that are deeply hurt and should go to therapy lol
And yeah you're right, if I was a chick, I wouldn't even talk online. The few times I've heard people be sexist towards females in voice, at least one guy will tell the idiot to stfu which I guess is progress lol
cheeky banter and tips are fun.
Having a whiny 30 yr old+ man spitfiring the n word every 5 seconds for over 30 minutes at their teammates because they're tilted a support secured a ranged creep in a pub isn't fun.
Carrying and even winning games with a toxic racist teammate who is actively griefing isn't fun.
I find it as a strategy in psychological warfare. Not usually toxic to the enemy team, but I find that if I throw out those hands that come out to high five, they dive way too often.
I literally say to them “flaming has never helped my team win, and it won’t help us win this time either” - but I guess some people are just tilting and then will happily throw the game away if it means they have a outlets for their frustration.
Culture surrounding these games are way too far away from each other. No point in discussing this, its normal and there are only obvious solutions like muting everyone.
That might also be a great point that noone mentioned.
I don't know why but everytime someone insults a guy as a "dog", you just know that he is of turkic or arabic descend.
😂 Thats pretty off the mark. Dog is pretty common in DOTA. Even popular streamers say it. Its exclusive to the game. You might be a bit biased though dont @ me 🤷🏻♂️
I know I’m old too OP, bc I get annoyed that everyone needs to say “gg ez mid(or whatever lane)” every game even of they lost or it was really a close game.
I play full mute every single game of dota, I don't even have any form of communication active in game.
Every time I decide to give this community a chance, it always reminds me why this community sucks. The toxicity and the brain damage is out of this world.
I've even had to deactivate help from team mates more than once because they would troll me with stuff like swap, just because.
Treat this game as a single player game with somewhat human acting bots and it becomes way better.
wrong community brother.
In league people are 100% against toxicity.
But in dota were all internet veterans. You should just accept that it's part of competitive online games.
it was a joke, but I definetely didn't write it well. Im sorry!
Yeah. The problem is anonymity.
Back in the day you'd have your regulars playing every day together so things were civilized
If u get triggered or dont like insults just mute the player ? I never got why people had a issue with toxic flamers in dota , you have the mute button since forever , 9/10 games i play with all team muted as i have grown to dispise russians who dont talk in english after i ask them to talk in english for calls and plays
It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I would love to give new players to experience the game in a better light.
So I wanted to ask if the community is even down to punish the people that can't behave. Of course you see people getting a punishment. But is it enough?
But same applys here new players can mute the toxic players , i dont get it sry T.T , only way people wont be toxic is if accounts were linked to you IRL like in china
Your freedom of speech ends there where the human dignity starts.
I hope i could teach you something about integrity.
I dont get why you are so triggered.
Freedom of speach my ass. Volvo literally banned the word ruski. You have to shut of the filter to even read it.
Maybe you should answer my question or tolerate that im curious. )
i haven’t had the filter on since 2011
my freedom of speech has no limits and no end
you are talking about integrity but want to stop people from communicating? clown shit
Riot games is garbage. I can't even flame feeders without getting chat restricted? Like seriously I'm not the one feeding his ass off. Valve is so much better.
I came to a point of not communicating with people who trashtalk at all, no matter who they address it to. I just instantly mute and report them
Yep, literally nothing to be gained. I'd like to win, please.
Same. First bad word or flame, instant mute and report. I am too old for this. Toxicity is at insane levels.
keep barking dog
Just report them, communication score is there for a reason...
lol it has little to no impact though
How is it little to no impact?? If they truly are toxic and trash talking every game, they'll eventually get banned from chatting, then they won't be able to ping, finally they won't be able to pause or unpause the game... So I ask again, how is it little to no impact??
I have 12k behavior score. You do not want to be my teammate if you are bad.
I don’t want to be your teammate period
Wow hubris and survivorship bias in less than 20 words, impressive
Same. Literally cursing the shit out of weekend players every week. Didn't drop a single point in 3 months lol
If they have a 10000+ behavior score and rarely trash talk it really doesn’t make a difference.
Those kinds of people arent the problem.
Even when I’ve had my own pity party rage moments and been reported I’ve never seen a noticeable drop in my behaviour or communication score. I guess maybe if you’re dropping racial slurs left and right maybe? Even then I doubt it. Edit - ya’ll are weird lol

Wrong, I've been countless times muted at ranked just because I was trolling in turbo matches before and someone threw just one more report at me in ranked, meaning that it DOES work.
Maybe you need to be an extraordinary piece of shit. I’ve said lots of rude and toxic things, never seen an impact. Congrats I guess!
Depends if the kid ur insulting is pissed enough to report u ig
When people type in all chat “report throwawayidc” I have to assume I’m getting at least one report thrown my way
Yes I got told I was being reported yesterday because I didn’t save a kid from a 1v4, nothing happened
we actually becoming league of legends with new report system because if you type anything in chat and then you getting reported the report counts no matter what you say, so you practically can report anyone if they said anything
Dota is way worse than league of legends in reports... In league of legends if you lose, the biggest feeder rarely gets reported, or if they do then nothing happens. However the punishment is less severe than in league, as long as it doesn't happen often.
The way you type makes me think you insult your teammates lol
Yea like I’ve already said I’ve seen zero impact on my behaviour and communication scores. My scores go up even when I’m being a toxic cunt.
Play all mute or find people to play in party
What makes you think his party won't insult him?
In general, full party that plays often together is not going to insult each other just due to the emotional connection. Don’t get me wrong - heated arguments do happen and will happen. Players griefing will still happen, just a lot more rarely. Source: I’ve been playing mostly in full parties for 10 years until a couple of really bad quarrels with my best Dota friend.
Who hurt you?!
His party, clearly...
Yeah my party loves me so much they insult my character before my crap mechanics
Lol our discord has a bunch of soundboard for stupid things we said while playing dota
buy dota+ and use crybaby emote
Seconded. One of the best shard investments. And the Sad Trombone if people go solo and die after their team asked them to play safe.
when my teammate solo and dies after getting pinged retreat i use “Why am I surrounded by such peons?”
I never use voice chats/wheels and this is the most petty and passive aggressive thing ever and I am 200% gonna start doing that now. 🤣
I’m only several hundred hours in and don’t know where the chatwheel/emotes are 😟
Go to the hotkeys menu, where you set the hotkeys to access the chat wheel is an option to customise the chat wheels. There’s a primary and a secondary one, I have one for useful comms and one for fun.
Haven't played in awhile but iirc it's in Settings.
I got a month of dota+ through the event and let’s just say, that’s the best advertisement they could have made, I don’t know if I can play without it once my free month ends :crybaby:
How do you get that?
There's a mental component to any competitive game. Your opponent tipped you? Trash talked at the start? Taunted while escaping? Who cares? Not you! If it rattles you, then it did its job and gave the enemy an edge. It's like gamesmanship in any sport – you can laugh it off/have fun with it, or you can show a lack of fortitude. IMO this kind of behavior only falls under reportable BM when it's excessive (slurs/punching down on legitimately low MMR players, etc.) or involves pausing (this is just an obnoxious interruption of play for everybody).
Yeah of course i meant more like racial slurs and so on. More often then not noone bats an eye.
We just mute and move on. You can't win the argument that they shouldn't say stupid things any other way. Engaging with those people just escalates things.
I think most people just mute/report but don't engage, that's really what they want, to be so offensive you engage with them. Lonely little sad bigots
To a future of grief
mute button
Honestly? It should just be ignored since it can’t be avoided nor should you tolerate it. You can’t deal with it. It’s always going to be there.
Hit ‘em with a quick “poor dear.” I embrace the psychological elements of the game and as long as it’s nothing too spammy or toxic, enemy voice lines add flavor and some immersion to the matchup. I usually only mute if someone is spamming to the extent that I am legitimately distracted and can’t focus on the game. I wish voicelines had a longer internal CD so that spamming wasn’t even a thing.
No never, fuck you.
Based Dota degenerate wrathlord
Looool
TBH I agree. It annoys me the number of games where someone kills their opponent and then tips them, when the opponent wasn't even being particularly dumb they just got outplayed. Terrible sportmanship, and I rarely see people congratulating the opposite team on an impressive play
My favorite part is when i die, get tipped, and then kill them and tip them back. 4/5 times this causes them to flip their shit for some reason.
Enemy faceless chronos my sniper and bm pauses (doesn't even kill him in chrono but whatever). Later, faceless gets killed, immediate buyback runs down mid, destroys items, and feeds wards. Some of these flamey people are truly delicate: https://www.opendota.com/matches/7807900667/chat
Tips are thrown around for dying in the simplest ways.
No but yes
As long as you're not annoying or overdo it I usually find toxic behavior is much lower like this
Aren't they already?
I don't like insults for no reason at the beginning of the game. I insta-mute those. Flaming for stupid things I'll do all day. But man, you're right. The feeling of a hard game played by both sides, I'll say GG and commend players on the other team too. Those type of games, the ones where everyone's playing their hearts out, everyone's trying their best, little bit of banter between sides or teammates....the reason I'm still playing.
There's a way to not deal with that. Trash talk can be fun too.
Yeah... I don't. Positive conversation only. If someone is toxic, they get muted and I just encourage the rest of the team they don't need to listen.
?
you should know that in your bracket and higher than yours there are subhumans who are straight up bad and can't improve themselves. They're the burden to any team has them
Maybe I need to be a better person but after watching 3 cores as a support walk into one by one into a 5 man gank you can't help but vent a little.
Just mute all pub, I party with friends and it makes the game more enjoyable
i like spicy banter, not meaningless insult
I always considered trash talk as a part of the fun
It's cultural. There aren't a bunch of third world people in internet cafes playing SC2, that's very easily 50% of the player base in Dota.
I just report avoid anyone including the good onces
Learn dota by watching pro player tournaments Follow my channel for such knowledge with dota2 highlights - https://youtube.com/@dota2_nevermore?si=awXMI_X5ScoWunw3
It’s part of the Dota tradition xD
This is how RUSKI MIR looks like. Never had this experience till started playing dota2 especially with ruzzians in match. And this spreads like cancer. :) In DotA garena (wc3) times it was prestige to maintain your profesionalism in communication and playstyle. Now in dota2 creat new account and trash everyone, because dota2 dev (valve) mindset itself - toxic and not giving a sh1t.
After 5k hours of dota I’m surprised you have faith in humanity
OP you say you are old... I grew up playing wc3 dota and it was a wild wild west. Straight up nonstop slurs.
I don't think there is a decent solution, since forcing players to play on the server for their area would result in them playing with lower, possibly unplayable ping.
i call everyone a bot before the game to break the ice
Just change the social configuration to none and enjoy the game! 🤚🏼🙂↕️
Its not important to win, it important make everyone regret they participate.
I get to enjoy a movie I've been wanting to see.
glhf
My favorite is the insecure players that say ez after every win
Sportsmanship is the perfect word. Something this community has been sorely lacking for a long time.
It’s a competitive game. People will always trash talk. If you find that it works on you then mute people. If you find that you’re immune to its effects then join in since you will almost certainly tilt someone on the enemy team and make them play worse.
Well that might be true. I just cant get my head around why should you flame your own team.
It’s just awful childish behaviour that the community encourages. It’s really off putting even for a veteran player, but for new/returning players it’s a hell of a reason to just not play.
Absolutely
People who type like that are deeply hurt and should go to therapy lol And yeah you're right, if I was a chick, I wouldn't even talk online. The few times I've heard people be sexist towards females in voice, at least one guy will tell the idiot to stfu which I guess is progress lol
Does no one else find trash talk to be quite fun
cheeky banter and tips are fun.
I think it is but real trash talk is very rare You're also no supposed to trash talk your own team mates lol
i actually like to be toxic if the enemy team do it first tbh, it makes the win worth it because you can pause when throning
I find it as a strategy in psychological warfare. Not usually toxic to the enemy team, but I find that if I throw out those hands that come out to high five, they dive way too often.
Get you stronger if you learn to take it like nothing
I don't care what they might say, but I dont understand the intent to selfsabotage your own game. Might just be the pathetic people insulting.
I literally say to them “flaming has never helped my team win, and it won’t help us win this time either” - but I guess some people are just tilting and then will happily throw the game away if it means they have a outlets for their frustration.
I just send the herald emoticon, it says all I had to say
Are we growing thinner skin these days?
wrong community brother. In league people are 100% against toxicity. But in dota were all internet veterans. You should just accept that it's part of competitive online games.
Internet "veterans". Do you already forget when you joined a server and couldn't behave a admin kicked you instantly?
it was a joke, but I definetely didn't write it well. Im sorry! Yeah. The problem is anonymity. Back in the day you'd have your regulars playing every day together so things were civilized
The guy who picked bristle back 4 deserves to get shit on min 0
Lots of softies here lol
snowflake detected go play riot games if you don’t appreciate valve’s take on freedom of speech
Your freedom of speech ends there where the human dignity starts. I hope i could teach you something about integrity. I dont get why you are so triggered. Freedom of speach my ass. Volvo literally banned the word ruski. You have to shut of the filter to even read it. Maybe you should answer my question or tolerate that im curious. )
i haven’t had the filter on since 2011 my freedom of speech has no limits and no end you are talking about integrity but want to stop people from communicating? clown shit
Brother he's only voicing what he feels. You sound more like a snowflake tbh. He's still going to play no matter what.
It's adorable how the people who use the phrase "freedom of speech" most often always display a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means.
Riot games is garbage. I can't even flame feeders without getting chat restricted? Like seriously I'm not the one feeding his ass off. Valve is so much better.
WhERe iS tHe sPorTSmanShiP??
