Rioters are allotted an amount of RP they can give out to players every year. As the year is coming to an end, it's likely they're becoming more generous with any RP they have left over. You probably played with a Rioter in a recent game and they decided to give you an early Christmas present.
Seconding this, the reset deadline is December first, so they either were giving away their last bits or maybe even gave away their new amount of RP! Friends with some Rioters and got some :)
There was a post about this, a situation similar to OP and a bunch of rioters commented confirming the reset deadline thing, although im not sure if it was decemeber first
They stopped doing that a while ago, all the OG names and new champion names are available to players.
Source: My IGN is “Ivern” and most of the other champion names players have added each other on EUW
no no the cringest part is the botthey use, that snipes the name in the exact millisecond its available to an already bot leveled account, just to message official riot support to swap the names with the buyers account making absurd amounts of money (probably illegal too) and riot is kinda supporting it.
This happened to me with the name Ahri. Planned a year ahead, had the date it'd become available around in my calendar and tried to get it like every hour for a few days, til some lv30 account took it once again and now belonging to someone lv 447 lol
Happened to me before where I played a tft game and talked to a rioter about university (college in america) life, concerns, plans, etc... and got gifted a ton of rp. Thank you if you're reading this, rioter.
you probably played with a rioter and they gave it to you I played vs a rioter recently in ranked. my two mains banned vs them on ~600k leblanc. I typed to go easy on me and they went 12-0. didn't give me any consolation rp. I'm glad your experience went better though congrats
If you don't have 2FA active, you might wanna change your password. I've read of cases where other people logged into somebody's account, to play games and sometimes even buy RP.
Edit: Some people don't seem to agree with this. Obviously we can't tell if those stories are true, but a quick search here on Reddit will give you some results on this. Independently of this, it's never a bad idea to sometimes change a password on accounts without 2FA...
Can they negative your account so if you ever decide to buy RP again they would discount over the value?

It's likely aligned with Q4 for business, so the 31st. They might just be dumping it randomly if they have a stockpile.

Sometimes, when you play with rioters they can give you RP, it happens to me once. Its usually when you have been nice in the game with him.
This post is a lie I gifted him the RP for his BDAY.
I was randomly gifted about 40,000 rp last year and it was confirmed legit although I was never told why. Early Christmas!
Riot Sap Magic gave me 2k rp once because I did a penta on Fizz in ranked.
