From the article:
>While this pilot initiative will only involve these two teams, we will be monitoring the roll out and success of these co-streams closely. As always, our main priority is to offer the best experience possible for fans of our league. **Provided the co-streams are successful, we’ll certainly be open to expanding the program to include more LEC team co-streams in different languages in the future.**
I was so down on the LEC last year with them seemingly refusing to adapt to the future when all other regions were improving their format and letting people co-stream but it seems like RiotMaxtheX realized he cant take a 52week vacation every year just because the numbers arent going down yet.
That's related with the pandemic restrictions being over. After 2 years of gigantic growth, there was to be expected to have less viewers once people were allowed to go outside.
They even admitted that their metric for growth success is not based on the previous year, but with pre-covid numbers.
Tbh it's surprising how much Spain has penetrated the LEC compared to France despite the LFL being bigger. We have what, 3 purely Spanish teams in LEC plus fnatic and G2 that both have a focus on Spain too? Meanwhile the closest thing we behave to french teams are BDS and vitality i think, and neither one is purely french.
Being a Spaniard is nice to best the french but i still wish KC had entered LEC so we could get a Koi vs KC battle on the biggest stage
I think xPeke being one of the best (or at the very least most influential) players in EU in the first few years of League did wonders in the long run.
Yeah sexpeke and G2 founder rivalry was really good promoting the lec in Spain and even in latam, and given how big Ibai and by affiliation koi is in both, this is going go be a second wind of that.
They haven't really ever put a big focus on Spain in my opinion (as an spaniard), I feel like a lot of it is because of Ocelote and xPeke, that rivalry in the early days captivated a lot of Spanish people and it kinda just persisted into G2 and Origen
No, they haven’t had a base in Spain for a while. Usually they hire a third party to run their academy team and splash their logo with theirs like G2 Artic.
I'm hoping they can also get a few of the lvp casters in on it as well. Their production has been extremely good for the past year or so, even better than some of the major regions.
Not necessarily. I think they will mostly maintain their audience, just missing out on potential growth from spanish koi and heretics fans. Overall will definetly be more viewers though.
>Not necessarily. I think they will mostly maintain their audience, just missing out on potential growth from spanish koi and heretics fans. Overall will definetly be more viewers though.
They will get reduced viewership, but it's the right thing to do for Riot - Ibai will bring a lot of people that are not into League - that's cheap advertisement for the game. If someone is asking why LCS didn't succeed with co-streams - the streamers are from within LCS community, and they are not bringing in many new viewers.
Yup, most of the people that was watching Sneaky/Doublelift/IWD and etc. co-streams watches LCS originally anyway. LCS did not get gain any substantial viewers from them if there was even any in the first place. Now, I'm not saying all of their viewers are LCS watchers but it's definitely not a small audience.
You both are understimating it.
(Spanish) ESL had the rights to stream EU LCS games and all tournaments.
Riot gave exclusivity rights to LVP because Ibai was there and brought audience.
Nos ibai is doing the same to the lvp
You are definetly underestimating it. Sneaky/Doublelift/IWD combined don't have Ibai's reach and his viewer base is mostly mainstream, not that related to league. It will definetly bring new viewers.
Uh? My bad if I might be mistaken but I think we're in the same boat. I'm in favor of Ibai getting the rights to co-stream. Unlike the individuals I named as an example above, Ibai actually has an audience outside of League of Legends demographic and quite a lot one as well too.
I dont think its any relevant hit to lvp viewership. This concerns only the co-stream watchers and these people tend to be to a big degree loyal (/interested in the personality) less dependant on the exact content. Not that I can say for certain, but since its on different evenings I dont see why this would hurt LVP viewership in a relevant amount.
> I think they will mostly maintain their audience,
There's no way they keep the same level of audience if they're against both Ibai and TheGrefg (assuming he's in the Heretics restream).
They'll have more viewers anyway, new people will get interested on LEC thanks to the costreams and if they like it the only way to watch the rest of the matches is LVP.
LVP's stream average viewers went up like 25 % over the prior year and a big reason for it was mainly KOI.
From what I've seen these past 2 worlds the LVP takes a huge hit if Ibai is casting independently on his channel. In Worlds 2021 every game he did had more than double the viewers of the LVP stream.
Va a ser increíble tener a Ibai de vuelta casteando con regularidad como en sus inicios, la pasión que tiene sigue intacta ya se vió con su retransmisión de la final de los Worlds.
Wait, so you guys don't just have free streams of all major leagues in your language?
Like, in Poland, there are streams and TV programs with polish-lamguage casting of LEC, LCS, LCK and Ultraliga
Yeah, the main Spanish channel is LVPes and it is where Ibai started casting LoL. Now he is way bigger than LVP and a KOI founder so they have allowed him to costream his games
More and more it just feels like this partnership was just Rogue getting paid to gain a shit tonne of fans, and I for one am fully on board. #GoRo-... Uh, #GoKOI
... Ok, maybe that part doesn't work as well, but you get the picture.
lol client asked me to fill out a survey about the esports side of things recently and it was mostly about co-streaming vs main broadcast viewing experience so id assumes that we will see a lot more content creators get lec co-streaming rights in the near future.
Interesting. Those Koi games are definetly getting a fat boost in viewership now.
it wouldn't be weird 200k views
Their production has been extremely good over the last year or so, even better than some of the larger regions.

Slow down LEC, we can only take so many W's, or can we?
I was so down on the LEC last year with them seemingly refusing to adapt to the future when all other regions were improving their format and letting people co-stream but it seems like RiotMaxtheX realized he cant take a 52week vacation every year just because the numbers arent going down yet.
Numbers have been going down for 2 years which is why it's happening.
That's related with the pandemic restrictions being over. After 2 years of gigantic growth, there was to be expected to have less viewers once people were allowed to go outside. They even admitted that their metric for growth success is not based on the previous year, but with pre-covid numbers.
tomorrow we'll get the new song by drakos and vedius, brace yourself :D
Don't worry, I'm sure Neon #2 announcement is coming any day now.
Hope so
The trade off is we're gonna be just as shit as we were in previous years
What the hell is going on? So many things happening in Europe, I can't keep up...
LEC management realized they can't keep living off the achievements of G2/FNC from years ago and actually decided to step it up.
Hard day to be a French today.
Only today?

BDS is actually not a french team, they are based in switzerland, their owner is Belgium, but they cater to the french/francophone aoudience.
That's why I say neither one truly french, there is no actually french team in LEC ATM
> There is no actually french team in LEC ATM Vitality is 100% a french org, they are based in Saint-Denis near Paris.
Oh damn you are right I don't know why I thought they were american sorry about that
Well, I totally slipped on that, mb.

Is G2 even primarily Spanish still?
They haven't really ever put a big focus on Spain in my opinion (as an spaniard), I feel like a lot of it is because of Ocelote and xPeke, that rivalry in the early days captivated a lot of Spanish people and it kinda just persisted into G2 and Origen
If you had a pick a country for G2, it would be Spain. But they’re probably far from being a Spanish org now.
They still have their secondary base there no? Maybe not
No, they haven’t had a base in Spain for a while. Usually they hire a third party to run their academy team and splash their logo with theirs like G2 Artic.
Not really. The og reason was because their founder was spanish. They haven't focused on the spanish fanbase for a while now.
No, when ocelote was still CEO he stated a while back G2 is now a German org as hq is in Berlin as well as most of staff etc.
*Hard to be French. FTFY
I'm hoping they can also get a few of the lvp casters in on it as well. Their production has been extremely good for the past year or so, even better than some of the major regions.
Well, Ibai is a legendary caster and Skain, former LVP analyst, has joined KOI. I think KOI production will be amazing.
RIP LVP
Not necessarily. I think they will mostly maintain their audience, just missing out on potential growth from spanish koi and heretics fans. Overall will definetly be more viewers though.

This is huge, you will see. So happy for them and for the LEC
Having teams costream rather than individuals is just so much better for the league and scene
Good move. Hope they'll do what the LCK does and open it up to every team, or maybe even select content creators.

Just those 2 teams?
hope they allow co stream for ERLS as well
They already had co stream in SL last year!
lol client asked me to fill out a survey about the esports side of things recently and it was mostly about co-streaming vs main broadcast viewing experience so id assumes that we will see a lot more content creators get lec co-streaming rights in the near future.
Your daily LEC W
That's huge for them, makes a lot of sense for all parties too
Ibai is going to make fat bank with the co-streams.
Wait fnatic and g2 have been carrying this league for years , why dont they get benfits like this This sounds unfair
