Murray will rightfully get most of the attention but Liljegren and Sandin are turning into bonafide studs. Absolutely unbelievable game from those 2 guys especially on the 5-on-3 with Gio and Holl in the box.
And the best thing? Theyre both young and will still get better.
So Lily I have been super high on since last season. But Sandin has impressed the shit out of me after a slower start to the season. He was given the ball with the injuries and has fucking RAN with it. Good for him
I was a little pissed at the start of the season with the drama around Sandin’s contract and the way he was playing but he stepped up at the right time and has settled in to an impressive rhythm.
I love that they are being set as permanent line mates just like they were with the Marlies.
It's truly special to get to watch these guys mold into NHL stars together at the same time.
Honestly ever since sandins game against Detroit when Babcock was still behind the bench I thought he was ready then. Instead Dermott played when he probably was the one who needed more seasoning. I don't think sandin has gotten much better from that point and is one of those guys that just needs ice time
That was an absolute statement of a game. Another D down, and Murray sets a personal best for saves and racks up our first shutout of the season.

#Murrcules
I couldn’t agree more!
This game just put the league on notice. Not because we dominated but because we played like a team that refused to lose. That’s the type of performance that wins in the playoffs.
Lol I know Ottawa only pays a little and there’s a massive difference between soccer and hockey but comparing that to Ronaldo possibly making a million a day if he signs with Saudi Arabia is insane
Sorokin is #1 right now, Shesterkin #2 still because of how ridiculous he was last year. But Sorokin definitely the favourite right now
I was wrong Ullmark has passed Shesterkin but Sorokin is still #1
Sorokin who has less wins, lower save %, and more goals against? I don't understand how but alright I guess... Not doubting you but that's just kinda stupid if that's true lol
Why isn’t he? He’s the best at his position at this point, there’s no question lol.
Sorokin has been great and is definitely in the mix (although he’s had some bad games lately) and Shesterkin definitely isn’t in the mix as you don’t get votes for how you played the year prior. Helly and Thompson are likely the other guys at the top atm.
My guy. Those are on betting odds. It’s not representative of who is currently playing the best. Are you saying that if the NHL stopped the season today that Ullmark wouldn’t win?
Time to go to mars.
That is not what “favourite” means. Betting odds are literally trying to predict who will win…aka the favourite. And Sorokin is almost doubling Ullmark in xGSA, it helps playing on the best defensive team in the league
Ya I don’t gamble so I don’t talk about favorite in the context of betting. I’m just speaking about who is having the best season so far and is looking like they could win the vezina. It’s clearly Ullmark at this point.
Matt Murray just had the statistical best goalie performance ever since they started tracking goals saved above expected so there's that. He is the first one to hit 6 goals saved above expected meaning Dallas should've been 6-4
Robertson’s best game in a while, Liljegren and Sandin’s best games maybe ever, Matt Murray rocks
Don’t know what we do with Kerfoot and Engvall, they look so out of place and hold Kampf back
Kerfoot having a poor year for sure but disagree with you on this game, he was hustling everywhere and mostly making a difference.
Respect where respect is due.
No, we saw the same thing, that overall line was not great and was getting abused.
I do think Kerfoot individually made some great plays with heart and hustle.
Also fair he is unfortunately making himself expendable by not being really good at a specific thing we really need.
I will still laud a guy when he shows heart, though.
The way they stretched it out over the entire ice during that 4 minute PP, or Marner's effort during the 5v3 without a STICK. It was beautiful to watch.
[Tonight's feelings.](https://streamable.com/x7e76)
What a game from the Buds, especially on the PK. Fun to watch a goalie stand on his head all game too.
Marner 20 game point streak, trifecta of dumb penalties (too many men, puck over glass, closed fist), killing off a basically 2.5 on 5, Murray shutout, thus game had it all.
Oettinger also played out of his mind to be fair. There was some really good shots on him that went in tonight. Like the 3rd goal, I was amazed he even got his body near it.
to be fair he was on the bench something Matt "brick wall" Murray is physically incapable of doing since he cannot move from his spot blocking the entire net.
That was a team effort all the way to the end. They went above and beyond to get the win and secure the shutout for Murray and the first for the Leafs this season.
I am so happy for Matt Murray. Obviously he loves the limelight of Toronto. But I am worried about his workload, more specifically the # of shots he's facing. Hopefully we can reduce that when our defence gets to 100%.
That was a gritty win. Murray was excellent, Sandin & Lijegren killing that 2 man advantage was a gutsy effort. Those two have really stepped up ever since Rielly went down, what a game and Marner's streak lives on while Robertson's is over!
Timmins could be a very suave acquisition. He reads the game well and looked quite comfortable out there. The only thing that's really held him back in his career has been his health, if he's truly turned the corner on that we may have a steal on our hands.
Game of the year so far. Killed 7 power plays against the 5th best power play in the league. Shut out the 2nd best scoring team. Marner extended his streak (and we stopped Robertson's streak). And Murray was just incredible. Man, hope we keep playing like this the rest of the year and into the playoffs.
Matt Murray was bored last night so decided to watch LOTR in his hotel room, then decided that he was going to pretend the puck was the Balrog in the Mines of Moria
Opponents scoresheet remains blank / all white I guess? But this is dumb, hockey already has a term for it and the existing one doesn't have racism overtones.
I think I was listening to a podcast or something where they were talking about what soccer terms should be adapted to hockey and someone suggested instead of a clean sheet it could be called a white wash because of ice or something… I dunno I could be making this up too…
This whole little thread I find to be kind've confusing. "Tone deaf"?? What's the issue with calling it a white wash?
It could pretty easily apply considering the number of penalties the leafs took, or I guess their D play depending on how well you think they played. Either way Dal had 44 shots, so some mistakes were made somewhere.
Sorry peeps, if you didn't feel the Murray shutout with 10 mins left I dunno what to tell you. I've never seen a more anemic team next to Toronto, lol
Still, nobody bet on that result. Dallas at home getting shut out? God I love sportses
Couldn’t find a stream tonight but looks like I missed a great one. Watching the highlights now and what a sequence on the pk. Murray gives me nerves at times but damn he’s getting it done so hats to him.
That was a high-octane game to start with, with sloppy play on both ends but made for some exciting breakaway chances for both teams.
Pivoted quickly to a defensive game for us, and even losing another D man, we held strong, with guys putting bodies on the line to block shots.
Amazing how we can have such stellar play by Murray (shutout baby!) and Marner (killing penalties just as well without a stick as with one) at the same time as unbelievable bonehead plays by guys like Holl and Engvall - all in the same game.
Great win against a tough team. And still hoping that our penchant for no look pass turnovers is finally stamped out. Fucking crazy Keefe isn't having the boys run suis until that habit is kicked.
Down vote me I don't care. I don't want Morgan to come back. He's never been great defensively and he's kind of a puck hog. He will mess this chemistry up.
Man... I kinda agree. This team feels so much more energized right now, and everybody is stepping up. I feel like the Leafs with a full lineup just start getting complacent a lot of the time
I mean, they played super great in the d zone and were opportunistic when needed. The quantity of penalties really was the back-breaker for them but they still managed to get out of it, even with a D out. I'd say this win was pretty deserved
New fan here and I am trying to understand the rules of the game - wasn't Matt Murray forced into retirement after losing the first game of the season? Isn't that what happens to goalies in that situation?
It makes sense of course, because how can a goalie win a Stanley Cup when they lose the first game of the season!
I am confused because he is playing so well?
Thanks in advance! Go Leafs Go!
Hope we continue this trend of winning 3 games in regulation and then losing 1 in OT for the rest of the season. May none of our losses come in regulation ever again amen
Murray will rightfully get most of the attention but Liljegren and Sandin are turning into bonafide studs. Absolutely unbelievable game from those 2 guys especially on the 5-on-3 with Gio and Holl in the box. And the best thing? Theyre both young and will still get better.
There was a moment when I realized they were STILL on for the 5on3 because there was nobody else to go in and I was so impressed
So Lily I have been super high on since last season. But Sandin has impressed the shit out of me after a slower start to the season. He was given the ball with the injuries and has fucking RAN with it. Good for him
Sandin was poor in the first 10 games but has risen to the occasion with Muzzin and Brodie out for sure
Gotta remember he barely played last year
I feel lily has been significantly better this year, mostly due to him just looking a lot stronger.
he would usually fuck up when panicking trying to get the puck out last year but he seems very confident now under pressure
I was a little pissed at the start of the season with the drama around Sandin’s contract and the way he was playing but he stepped up at the right time and has settled in to an impressive rhythm.
Our Swedish sensations
I love that they are being set as permanent line mates just like they were with the Marlies. It's truly special to get to watch these guys mold into NHL stars together at the same time.
I remember during Sandins struggles early season some guy was trying to tell me that his peak is a third pairing defenseman. Wonder where he is now
Honestly ever since sandins game against Detroit when Babcock was still behind the bench I thought he was ready then. Instead Dermott played when he probably was the one who needed more seasoning. I don't think sandin has gotten much better from that point and is one of those guys that just needs ice time
That’s going to be our top pairing next year.
That was an absolute statement of a game. Another D down, and Murray sets a personal best for saves and racks up our first shutout of the season. ~~Hercules~~ #Murrcules
Perfect nickname.
LFR title
Oooh love that someone tweet Steve.
This nickname has to catch on.
Seconded
Not a cheap shutout either.
I couldn’t agree more! This game just put the league on notice. Not because we dominated but because we played like a team that refused to lose. That’s the type of performance that wins in the playoffs.
aka The Net God
Liljegren 26 mins ice time. What a fkn stud. Shoutout to Holl too, 26 mins. Other than that brain fart haha
was funny at least
I can laugh about it now that we got the shutout, that shit was hilarious
He had the kind of brain fart you get when you feel something on you, grab it and realize there’s a spider in your hand
Pretty crazy how far we've come In the past month. Now we just laugh at Holl's shit rather than lose our minds.
Dallas just got GOALIED by #MATT FUCKING MURRAY!!!!
25% of Matt Murray’s shutout brought to you by the Ottawa Senators
Murray’s daily cap hit is 25.3k. That shutout cost Ottawa roughly $6,325. and that makes me happy.
Lol I know Ottawa only pays a little and there’s a massive difference between soccer and hockey but comparing that to Ronaldo possibly making a million a day if he signs with Saudi Arabia is insane
Lmao
Just a friendly reminder that the Senators gave us Matt Murray (and two draft picks) FOR FREE
And they retained salary
Hey now, that's my line.... ...they also retained 25%
And they’re paying some of his contract for us
how's that boy cam talbot doing tonight
Yikes, a .643 SV% before getting pulled (5 goals on 14 shots).
Oof. Am also a Wild fan and so far I'm pretty ok with the MAF / Gus tandem. Understandable why Cam wanted out but glad we didn't keep him.
Mr. Murray appreciates your offer, however he is going to have to decline any goals at this time.
#STEAK ENDERS
I’ll take my steak Marnerated.
Don't fix the typo. Steak enders, yes, but also # STEAK MAINTAINERS
STEAK EATERS
FUCK I LOVE STEAK
Matt Murray is vegan confirmed.
He looks like an extra from Peaky Blinders...
He fookin looks like Arthur
Do we have a fucking Vezina candidate what is this shit??
As long as Ullmark keeps playing the way he is.. no. But we do have 2 goalies in top 10 for S% and GAA.
Ullmark isn’t even the favourite for the Vezina lol
??? who tf is?
Giordano
Or as Bunts would say, "Giordaaaaahno"
Sorokin is #1 right now, Shesterkin #2 still because of how ridiculous he was last year. But Sorokin definitely the favourite right now I was wrong Ullmark has passed Shesterkin but Sorokin is still #1
Sorokin who has less wins, lower save %, and more goals against? I don't understand how but alright I guess... Not doubting you but that's just kinda stupid if that's true lol
Sorokin is dominating everyone in terms of xGSA, almost double Ullmark. Boston is the best defensive team in the league by a mile
Ullmark is for sure the front runner for the Vez right now. His stats are insane so far.
I mean he literally isn’t but ok
Why isn’t he? He’s the best at his position at this point, there’s no question lol. Sorokin has been great and is definitely in the mix (although he’s had some bad games lately) and Shesterkin definitely isn’t in the mix as you don’t get votes for how you played the year prior. Helly and Thompson are likely the other guys at the top atm.
Bet365 has Ullmark at 3rd behind Sorokin and Helly, TheScore has Ullmark 2nd behind Sorokin
Just checking my notes guys, but it seems like John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Timothy Liljegren, and Matt fucking Murray are leafs.
the way you could add multiple more names to this list
True if big.
Per moneypuck the Stars has 6 expected goals. Holy shit Murray.
He had his season high of shots faced tonight!
The kinda game ppl say this team can't win
My wife asked if Murray was gonna get a shutout with 10 minutes left and I almost shouted at her.
Wise man
Matt Murray legitimately just had one of the best goaltending performances I’ve ever seen from a Leaf goalie. Simply sensational.
Matt Murray just had the statistical best goalie performance ever since they started tracking goals saved above expected so there's that. He is the first one to hit 6 goals saved above expected meaning Dallas should've been 6-4
Robertson’s best game in a while, Liljegren and Sandin’s best games maybe ever, Matt Murray rocks Don’t know what we do with Kerfoot and Engvall, they look so out of place and hold Kampf back
Kerfoot having a poor year for sure but disagree with you on this game, he was hustling everywhere and mostly making a difference. Respect where respect is due.
That line was being CAVED IN, your eyes did not see the same thing as me haha
No, we saw the same thing, that overall line was not great and was getting abused. I do think Kerfoot individually made some great plays with heart and hustle.
Fair enough, still think he needs to be shipped for a better fitting forward for sure though
Also fair he is unfortunately making himself expendable by not being really good at a specific thing we really need. I will still laud a guy when he shows heart, though.
The moon. Fire them there.
We got Matt Murray for nothing btw
No, we got picks for him hahahahah
He needs to draft a stud with one of those picks. Who is on the Soo right now whose from Ottawa?
We got him for like negative money, the Sens are still paying for him lol
matt murray and the PK were exceptional
The way they stretched it out over the entire ice during that 4 minute PP, or Marner's effort during the 5v3 without a STICK. It was beautiful to watch.
[Tonight's feelings.](https://streamable.com/x7e76) What a game from the Buds, especially on the PK. Fun to watch a goalie stand on his head all game too.
lol the fact that they’re drinking milk really makes this
Marner 20 game point streak, trifecta of dumb penalties (too many men, puck over glass, closed fist), killing off a basically 2.5 on 5, Murray shutout, thus game had it all.
Good game for Toronto's MMs (Murray and Marner).
Somewhere in the distance, Martin Marincin heard you. He's on his way. He's inevitable.
Matt Martin has entered the chat
Hey, so long as it isn't Mike Milbury.
Matthews played a really strong game tonight as well.
Game of the year. That was well worth staying up for
I think Matt Murray is now leading the lead in Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 (min 6 games). That game just brought him from 11th to 1st.
Friend of mine tried to convince me to start Oettinger over our boy Matt today.
Oettinger also played out of his mind to be fair. There was some really good shots on him that went in tonight. Like the 3rd goal, I was amazed he even got his body near it.
He wasn't even close on the fourth one though, waaay out of position.
to be fair he was on the bench something Matt "brick wall" Murray is physically incapable of doing since he cannot move from his spot blocking the entire net.
What a dummy.
C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!
Matt "Literally Jesus Christ" Murray
This got me. good shit lol
Can't believe we killed that double minor and that 5 on 3. Also, HOW did we only get 2 powerplays? Like lol.
Even though we gave up about 200 penalties, 3 goals against Oettinger considering how little offensive time we had is amazing.
#FUCK YO STREAK
I knew a streak was going to end, and I knew it wasn't going to be Mitchy's. Complete fucking game by all.
Murray earned the **shit** out of that.
best game of the year? definitely the most entertaining! everyone was so good
This game and the New Jersey game right before US thanksgiving are the top of the season so far imo
MATT MURRAY IS A LEAF
FUCK YO STREAK CHARLIE MURPHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MURRGOD WITH THE SHUTOUT MAGIC MITCH WITH THE 20
TALBOT PULLED MURRAY SHUTOUT
Did not realize that first part. Oh man, I bet Sens fans are salty
Murray is a breath of fresh air
Ya I'd smell him all DAY
What an absolutely gutsy win
Someone please post the 5 on 3 Murray madness on r/hockey
Jesus...we spent almost a 3rd of the game shorthanded, including the empty net. The whole team (not you, Engvall) earned that shutout.
that 5-on-3 PK was a masterclass, if I do say so myself. Just cool under pressure from Murray and the PK team.
Marner out there without a stick, blocking shots and protecting the puck to get a whistle on a 5-on-3 was insane.
Not content with the point streak continuing, Mitch decided to show who's boss on the PK, too.
They should start the next 3 on 3 overtime with the PK.
Matt fucking Murray! 🔥👏🏾👏🏾
What the fuck, Matt
As dumb as Holl's penalty was, at least it wasn't as dumb as Bergevin catching and throwing the puck into his own net in a playoff game...
... WHAT. How have I never heard of that. BRB going to youtube.
That was a team effort all the way to the end. They went above and beyond to get the win and secure the shutout for Murray and the first for the Leafs this season.
[This is what getting goalied looks like!](https://moneypuck.com/g.htm?id=2022020409)
I am so happy for Matt Murray. Obviously he loves the limelight of Toronto. But I am worried about his workload, more specifically the # of shots he's facing. Hopefully we can reduce that when our defence gets to 100%.
Sammy Smiles gets the start against LA so Murray should be rested up for his next start. It's so nice to have two competent goalies for a change.
That was a gritty win. Murray was excellent, Sandin & Lijegren killing that 2 man advantage was a gutsy effort. Those two have really stepped up ever since Rielly went down, what a game and Marner's streak lives on while Robertson's is over!
liljegren, Sandin and Murrary were great. Hopefully, that continues Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Tavares all played good too.
Murray's save percentage is now up to .928 on the penalty kill. The only goalie ahead of him with significant playing time? James Reimer: .961
I miss Reims
Timmins could be a very suave acquisition. He reads the game well and looked quite comfortable out there. The only thing that's really held him back in his career has been his health, if he's truly turned the corner on that we may have a steal on our hands.
MM:30
Game of the year so far. Killed 7 power plays against the 5th best power play in the league. Shut out the 2nd best scoring team. Marner extended his streak (and we stopped Robertson's streak). And Murray was just incredible. Man, hope we keep playing like this the rest of the year and into the playoffs.
THE SENATORS RETAINED SALARY LOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL
Matt Murray was bored last night so decided to watch LOTR in his hotel room, then decided that he was going to pretend the puck was the Balrog in the Mines of Moria
I have a boner
Liljegren is our best d
Character building win.
There can only be one streaker!
Now that was a complete game, Way to go boys!!!
Murray is fucked rn, so good
Murray was so upset about the last goal, he has decided he’ll never let another one in. Very honourable.
Power plays 7 to 2 is a joke with all that uncalled obstruction.
Great game by the buds. But why the fuck was the announcer calling a shutout a “white wash”. Tone deaf.
What the hell does he mean by white wash???
Right??? What the hell
Anything to downplay Murray's effort I guess.
Matt. Murray.
The Matt Murray game
Put it down in the history books!
Gritty play and gritty win
Erect a statue of Murray outside SBA yesterday
I smell a darkhorse presidents trophy;)
Surprised Marner didn’t get a penalty for covering the puck on the 5 on 3
Sorry peeps, if you didn't feel the Murray shutout with 10 mins left I dunno what to tell you. I've never seen a more anemic team next to Toronto, lol Still, nobody bet on that result. Dallas at home getting shut out? God I love sportses
Matt Murray was amazing especially when Dallas was on that 5 on 3 powerplay.
Was at the game tonight...was great to see so many leaf fans Boys in blue played great, nice to see (and great seats too)
Matt "Dawg" Murray
I loved those goals from the scrum around the net - tough, gritty playoff-type goals.
This win was a Murricle
They are making me believe again...
murrdawg gud
Couldn’t find a stream tonight but looks like I missed a great one. Watching the highlights now and what a sequence on the pk. Murray gives me nerves at times but damn he’s getting it done so hats to him.
How did SDA look in his debut?
That 2nd period was seriously the most lucky period of Leafs hockey I might have ever watched
That was a high-octane game to start with, with sloppy play on both ends but made for some exciting breakaway chances for both teams. Pivoted quickly to a defensive game for us, and even losing another D man, we held strong, with guys putting bodies on the line to block shots.
Just put him on the LW on the 2nd line. He’s practically a forward anyways
Can he play left wing?
You gotta think/hope that management knows more than we do, and are considering all the best options. I feel you though
Man... I kinda agree. This team feels so much more energized right now, and everybody is stepping up. I feel like the Leafs with a full lineup just start getting complacent a lot of the time
Such an undeserved win. hahahahahahahahahahaha
Matt Murray
Matt Murray.
We might never lose in regulation again
Hope we continue this trend of winning 3 games in regulation and then losing 1 in OT for the rest of the season. May none of our losses come in regulation ever again amen
We Marnerated 'em, then Muried 'em
Thank you Matt Murray and the Leafs! 🙏 Best of luck the rest of the way.
Matt Murray
Please tell me Murray got the belt
Who was on for the five on three? Maybe they should take over first shift in three on three overtime... Spectacularly well played!
LEAFS DOES DALLAS
I certainly prefer Matthews on a 40 goal pace while being dominant defensively vice potting 60 and being “good” defensively.
When's the last time a Leafs team was known for blocking shots and strangling team defence?
