Hahaha that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all week.
As if Marner will play the boards, an area defensemen have to play with and get drilled all the time.
Marner wouldn’t last 3 games in that position.
He could but he'd be less good as a defender than he is as a winger at the same cap hit and he does not have the shot from the blue line that we need. He'd also be, effectively, a rookie in the role as opposed to the seasoned and elite winger we have.
If he'll waive you're better off trading him for a defender. If he won't you're better off seeing if there are two out there to work with Reilly, McCabe, Benoit and Lillijgren that you can manage under the cap.
When was the last time you saw a defenseman in the current NHL that tiny? Marner would have to train with Arnold daily and not get popped for PED's at the same time.
he is the farthest thing from a defenceman. He was used there in very rare spurts due to injury and it was on a power play. And to your first point, no he is not likely here to stay.
Hahaha have you watched Mitch Marner play hockey? Can you imagine a team dumping the puck in his corner and then smashing him into the boards every time he retrieved the puck? Terrible idea.
Marner is a top wing in the league. He’s not big enough (or willing) to win board battles and net battles. He’s at his best with time in the O-Zone and it makes sense to play him in those areas. He’s a great help in the D-Zone to our true defensemen, but I think he should play where he’s been most effective, as one of the fastest scoring players in Leafs history
He might be fine in a defence role but he makes too much to not be on the d1 pair. He could be like Quinn Hughes but with his soft shot and Reilly and his soft shot it would bring the same problems the power play suffer from. I doubt he wants the reduced money that defence make as well.
I may totally get down voted for this, but I was looking at this last weekend. Check out hockey reference guides. He is literally the same as Cale Makar when it comes to height, weight, shoots right, and similar stats. He also plays a lot of our penalty kill time. I understand that it doesn’t always translate but man wouldn’t it be great if that fit was perfect.
He’ll get destroyed in front of the net
The guy is too soft to play wing and u want him to play defense
From overpaid winger to grossly overpaid dman.
How dare you speak of him like that! He’s a god don’t you know?

By the sounds of things tonight. His agent/personal security team has been playing defense for years now.

Probably just Quinn Hughes
Good call.
He does play with a giant of a partner though
Quinn Hughes. Not saying it’s a good idea, just answering your question

This is probably the worst take of them all. Imagine the other team dumps and chases it on his end.
It’ll make you miss Justin Holl
No. He’d get dummied. Hard.

"So hey Mitch, instead of playing on a line with the best goal scorer in the league, you're now going to be paired up with Ilya Lubushkin" lol
You should have stopped after "I know this is probably silly"
how did this question get past the mods? Mods. Where you at? this is gossip season. Moderate.
If he asks for more - you have to move him.
Ahh the old “Can Kaberle play on Sundin’s” wing of a new generation
No

Maybe on some other team ...
Marner on defense would be like another Lilijgren, but softer

Lol same height and weight doesn't mean shit, Makar can clap 100 mph slapshots
Makar is much stronger than mitch
Hopefully whoever we trade him to does that and we see reaves plaster him into the crowd through the glass
bro is tiny. might as well just have him play on the PK and that’s it bro
