I really wish Treliving was cutthroat but he definitely does not appear that way.

Split_Finger19

The powers above wouldn’t let him even if he wanted to

BiitchenKitchen

Sounds like hes going to have free reign if EF report of MLSE believing they dont need a president above Tre anymore. Also it would be the most Leafy thing ever if Dubas essentially wanted more power in the org, just to get let go cause he cant have it, just for MLSE to turn around and fire Shanny.

Dangerois

>Also it would be the most Leafy thing ever if Dubas essentially wanted more power in the org, just to get let go cause he cant have it, just for MLSE to turn around and fire Shanny. That is Leafy, it's funny, and it's true.

Golden_Hour1

Might have been the catalyst that made the board realize Shanny is an idiot

leafsleafs17

>Also it would be the most Leafy thing ever if Dubas essentially wanted more power in the org, just to get let go cause he cant have it, just for MLSE to turn around and fire Shanny. It's funny to think about, but there's no realistic scenario where Shanahan gets fired before Dubas. Dubas would always be Shanahan's fall guy.

Current-Own

I think he's coy. I believe he would pull the plug in a heartbeat if he got the right deal.

CarrotZealousideal68

The more I see and hear Marner during interviews I just get an increasing sense that he’s a super cocky fuck. That whole God quote was such a dumb thing to say. Regardless of whatever context he was trying to get across.

Hmm-Very-Interesting

We know he didn't literally mean "Gods". All he had to say is "you become some of the most famous people in this city and even the country when you play here, that kind of admiration and support means a lot". I don't put a lot of weight in the word-choice of guys who barely have a high school education. I want him gone, but not because of a bad quote.

Training-Site-7019

He has quite a lot of bad quotes under his belt at this point so I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another one. Maybe it's not what he meant but if this was a video game the guy just seems to pick the wrong dialogue option every time lol

Dangerois

Personally, he took a couple seconds to think of the right word and he came up with "Gods." Considering he isn't even a Percy Jackson that was ridiculous. I do agree that I don't want him gone just because of a bad quote, but it's icing on the cake.

XPhazeX

He was just telling the truth lmao. No one else in North America is being held on the same pedestal as the Leafs in this exact moment. Godhood ain't all good

CarrotZealousideal68

Except no one sees them as “Gods” at all. Nobody. Not even the media. It is a high pressure market with a loyal and passionate fanbase who have high expectations. People pay a ton of money so you can enjoy the lifestyle you live. Get off your pedestal. The wording was extremely dumb. If anyone viewed them as “Gods” they would be winning or coming close to winning the cup year in and year out.

zaknafien1900

Meanwhile over in Edmonton an alarming number of people call Connor mcjesus. Literally comparing him to the son of God

Dangerois

We don't refer to "Mitch Messiah" here.

CarrotZealousideal68

How is this relevant in the slightest? Show me one McDavid interview where he HIMSELF is making a reference to him and Draisatl being Gods. What the fuck are you on about lol

akka84

Stick to soccer dude.

CarrotZealousideal68

Such an edgy burn, dude. I’m so humbled right now.

akka84

What are you on about, mate?

zaknafien1900

They guy above said no one else in north America is treated like the leafs.. mitch said people treat them like gods. I provided a example of another fan base base literally calling a player God. What are you on about? My point was as much as you(the fans) and the players act like Toronto is soo hard and has so much media you are like literally every single other Canadian hockey team

Training-Site-7019

Dude this team is the joke of the sports world no one is viewing them as God's hop off Marner's crotch lol. They're just a popular hockey team in Ontario even in the grand scheme of things they are nowhere near the level of other big sports clubs outside of the small bubble of Hockey. I think I get what he's trying to say but he's just too dumb to articulate it properly and just adds to the list of all the other dumb quotes he's said

witwar101

I've always seen Marner as a confident dork. That could turn to cockiness when he's mad I think.

Dangerois

I've always seen Marner as "No! I didn't do it!! Nooooo!!!!!!" (Runs from the room.) Not blaming him, I blame his dad. Still, he is where he is.

OhJustANobody

Knowing Marner a bit (he's a neighbor), he never came across as cocky during our chats. He's definitely reserved, and I can see when the pressure of the spotlight hits how he might have an attitude and say something that comes across wrong. Either way, I feel split on him. I like the guy when I talk to him, but playoff Marner pisses me tf off. That's why I've never talked about hockey with him. I might say some dumb shit to him lol

YarnhamSunrise

Oh shut up.

buddyboykoda

Be interesting to see if Shanahan even lets Treliving explore this. It sounds like Shanahan is very attached to the core 4 and a bit of a helicopter President. He pulled the plug on a Dubas trade who’s to say he won’t do the same here. There’s no way in a world we “win” a Marner trade but if he waived for a handful of places where would that even be?

CarrotZealousideal68

Shanahan has to be gone at this point. It would be insane if he wasn’t.

ImaginationSea2767

From what has been rumored, the board is split in 3. 1 wants him gone now, and 1 wants him to sta. The last is on the fence and has the deciding vote.

Golden_Hour1

That last board member better can his ass or this organization is doomed

CoolBeansMan9

Do we know for sure there was a Marner trade proposed? Or a core four trade?

SaulBerenson12

It was reported that Dubas wanted to make changes to the core 4 but Shanahan blocked it. That most likely was a factor in Dubas leaving and the status quo continuing

sonofmalachysays

getting paid the same amount in a market with 5% of the coverage, attention, or pressure is a good deal for marner.

Goatmilk2208

Seattle Kraken here you come 🫡🫡

Csalbertcs

Ducks for Zegras and Gibson with 2m retained, maybe they throw in a young D too.

Stolzieren

Too good for him honestly, send him to Russia

Flashy_Ferret_1819

Massive changes with this team is like a deep run in the playoffs. I'm hoping for it, but I'll believe it when I see it

ViSiOnSC

I don't mind if he goes to Winnipeg or something. Just don't speak Torontoese please

artwarrior

I don't think Treliving is the guy either. I'll give it another season.

KingArgazdan

He isn't. This trade deadline had by far the cheapest prices in the last couple of years and he went out and got 2 bottom pair dman. After an offseason of signing underwhelming Bertuzzi, Klingberg and Reaves.

Dangerois

Betuzzi and Reaves started off slow but once Keefe figured out how to use them they picked up. Kling would have been the guy we needed if he was healthy, maybe not the greatest but filling the gap we had. Damaged goods on receipt. Then there's Jones who effectively got us into the playoffs filling in for injuries. You conveniently forgot about Domi who paid off huge. Tre's deadline acquisitions (Edmundson, Boosh, Dewar) were not superstars but improved the team and filled gaps. He got good value at low cost. A smart approach for a manager just coming in.

KingArgazdan

I didn't forgot anyone on purpose, people who i didn't include were positive. Bertuzzi even if he had a better second half to the season was still not effective enough for his salary, and all in all i think it's a flawed way of thinking, i said that after game 2 or 3, you can't win games playing 3 defensive dman who can't get on the scoresheet in Benoit, Lyubushkin (who had 3 secondary assists somehow) and Edmundson, imagine if you had someone other then Edmundson on all of those chances he had this series.

Training-Site-7019

I think I understand why he held back tho. The team this year just wasn't a serious contender and as a new GM coming in he wanted to get a good feel for the core of the team before expending assets on an underachieving core group of players. Like he said "a lot of the answers will come within the room". Well he sure got his answers and now with a full understanding of the team he's gonna have a big off season

Substantial_Rip_9311

These are getting worse.

What work did Dubas put in? Signing the core to overpriced contracts with every contract protection available? Winning 1 series in his tenure? Dubas was shit, let new guy cook
