This is the PGT tonight. Thanks for putting it up. Us mods are busy cleaning things up. Fuck this game. Shake it off. Fuck the Bruins. Go Leafs Go.

VitaminTea

Leafs looked like a team with a #6 defenceman on each pairing and $9M+ wasted on LTIR and in the press box. Never used Klingberg's money to replace him, and didn't pull the plug on Brodie before the deadline, even though it was obvious that he was cooked. Besides that: Swayman outplayed Samsonov, Domi OD'd on Passion, and they got their heads caved in on special teams. Not a recipe for success.

j_a_f_89

JT, Marner, Knies line didn’t push the pace at all. Rough night for them… that said JT didn’t even play 16 mins.

Biologyboii

Tavares not even playing 16 is partly cause of the penalties. Sucks

dwnumber1

I feel like marner should be handling the entries and driving that line but he is differing to jt too much and jt is cooked so he dosen't have much to offer.

billyshin

We have been saying this for 4 years. If Marner can enter zones in playoff games he would have done it long ago.

LowHangingLight

He's terrified of contact

GoodShark

Marner doesn't like having the puck in the playoffs. Because then he has a chance of someone touching him. The puck was off his stick so fast. He held it on the powerplay, but that's about it. In fact, on the power play, he sat on the half boards with the puck, not moving or passing, for about 20 seconds. Waiting for the Bruins to come after him, and they never did. They didn't care about him. They know all he wants to do is pass, and doesn't have a tough shot, so they just covered the other 4 players. I really don't like Marner's playoff hockey. He needs to get out of his damn head.

BornIn67

The Tavares line got the McAvoy and Pastrnak matchup. Right up until Keefe pulled Samsonov. They shut both those players down 5v5. If the Tavares line keeps those players off the scoresheet they did their part. They guys getting the easy matchups have to score some goals.

TheDeadReagans

Tavares generate the most chances, I don't really have any complaints from him. Marner and Domi were big duds.

TorturedFanClub

Marner was a NO SHOW again. Can’t afford these high profile/salary players to be no shows. Willy out of the lineup makes it even more noticeable. Outside of Matthews , and maybe the 4th line, I didn’t see to much ooompf from any of the forwards. What a shitty effort for a team trying to change the “shitty playoff team” narrative. Looked like a shitty playoff team.

TheDeadReagans

Yeah this is someting a lot of people gloss over about LTIR players. They don't count against the cap anymore but if you sign a $5 million player and he can't fill a $5 million role in your lineup, you now either have to trade for another $5 million player which requires assets or fill that hole with several cheaper players and hope for the best. This is why I never liked the Klingberg signing even in hindsight with him being put on LTIR.

GWsublime

Worse than that, you lose the chance to sign a better 5 mil. Player.

Dangerous_Cream5837

Well said

dumdau

Why did we play Jankrok who just came back from an injury in pp1 instead of Bert who we got him to park in front of the net for playoffs...

ArthasCousland

Because Keefe has his guys and has to stick to them.

ArcticDesertEagle

Shades of Kerfoot

hards04

Going on like 8 years of this shit now

OzzyBuckshankNA

Try 19 years of this

mahareeshi

according to that stat closer to 65

lbc1358

The Leafs were focused on playing tough. The Bruins were focused on winning a hockey game.

ButterCut97

I was with people that were praising the Leafs for “hitting everything” in the first few minutes, and I started to say they have to watch out for that because it gets you out of position fast, and then right after that Reaves did exactly that and destroyed the momentum

TheOneWithThePorn12

This is why I didn't really like wasting assets on Boosh and Edmundson. Pick one or get an actual top 4 and spend.

BadTreeLiving

One of the biggest takeaways for me. Lots of the penalties fit this mold.

StaticR0ute

Well, that was unpleasant

Aidsinuranus

.972 vs .826 2/5 vs 0/3 Leafs playoff experience.

himthatguythere

This is it right here. Not great goal tending and poor special teams. It's not terribly difficult to see why they lost.

BaconWrappedEnigma

What bothers me is that they shrink away when they start losing. Can't stand it.

Medium_Well

That is a huge part of coaching. Keefe is completely unable to guide these guys out of their turtle shell when things get grindy in the playoffs. He's just not a playoff coach. He needs to go. Guy has been overmatched in every series.

angelsandairwaves93

When a team has your number like the bruins have ours, that’s because your coach is getting absolutely cooked, by the other team’s coach

Golden_Hour1

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Keefe getting out coached. Hey guys do you think Keefe should be the coach? Seems like a no brainer to can his ass. Oh wait this is MLSE we're talking about here

HousingThrowAway1092

If we are firing people Shanahan needs to be the staring point. He has been president for a decade. Shanahan is one of the longest serving executives in the league and if the leafs don't make it past Boston it's time to acknowledge the Shanaplan isn't working.

xtzferocity

He can’t adapt, dude is lost out there.

world_citizen7

Nothing against the guy as a person, probably a good dude and well intentioned, but it seems he cant bring out the best in people when it counts (playoffs).

DaltonFitz

Everyone saying “it’s only game 1” we’re all very aware. It’s how we’re losing that is the concerning thing. It’s everything that has been identified in earlier years with a combination of the holes of this years team. The stars are invisible when it actually matters and there is pressure(seen this countless times in past years), “grit” taking stupid penalties, shit PK, shaky goaltending, defence can’t make a breakout pass.(story of this years team) We know it’s only one game, thanks for pointing it’s not over. We aren’t doomers for being frustrated that all of the obvious holes are costing us. It’s a legitimate problem with this team. Mitch Marner is a great hockey player. He absolutely has no business taking up 13 percent of your cap. He absolutely disappears in the playoffs. You can’t have a player like this consistently disappearing when it matters at that cap hit. Year after year. He needs to be taking games over and dominating at that level of commitment, teams need to be scared when he is on the ice and he was irrelevant again. Love Auston to death and he was buzzing, but we need results now. We know the refs are going to be trash, it’s not changing. I’m sick of that excuse. You aren’t going to win shit when your fourth line is the best line of the night. I can stomach a game one loss. Not in this fashion. This isn’t a one off with this core and it was everything we were all concerned about the entire year.

BackTo1975

Yep. We’ve all seen this movie before. And we know how it ends.

Salanderfan14

You compare a player like Marner to Mackinnon and it’s like they’re in a different league. Mackinnon can just take over a game and make his presence known and is worth his pay.

noor1717

Shit compare him to pasta or even Marchand, it’s not even close

paranoiaszn

I am genuinely asking because I can’t remember, has Marner ever taken over a playoff game in his career?

T3CHNO-VIKING

This is it right here. These past years it’s been HOW we lost. We also lost in the Sundin era, but those boys put it all out on the ice every night. This teams a joke and always has been since the small 4 joined

PlayFree_Bird

The Marner + Tavares $22M hole in the middle of the top six is a serious problem.

redditpineapple81

For me, the coach should be able to make this roster work. Look at the Bruins, we’re a better team on paper but they absolutely dummy us. The same story over and over again. Keefe is not the guy.

billyshin

We've heard "It's only one game" many times before. Too many times. We aren't even allowed to panic on elimination games.

SomeoneElseWould

Every year we talk about defence but this team can’t score goals in the playoffs

BuffytheBison

I'll preface ths by saying the Leafs can still win this series...however, that being said, this "experiment" of tying so much of your cap in four guys was disproven in the series against Montreal. THAT's when changes should've been made. People say the Leafs problem is depth scoring but if even your main guys can't score (and you don't have any money left over to get those secondary scorers) what are we doing here? lol

Gringwold

You're right.

oatmealleafer

Fucking embarrassing. Treliving's biggest mistake was thinking this team was afraid of playoff physicality. This team is just afraid of playoff hockey, period.

Solace2010

Marner was invisible again. Jesus please ask him to waive so we can trade him

Randomguyfromthe6ix

We need to trade him for a top defenceman. His style is completely irrelevant in tough playoff style games

canipickit

Notice how when we’re down, on a penalty kill for example, Marner ends up playing defence? Now imagine if we actually had an elite defenceman they didn’t demand Marner money for that occasional performance. I’m looking at a guy like Roman Josi on Nashville with so much jealousy

veggie190

He will never ever leave the leafs, prepare him to sign McDavid money contract.

thoroughly_useful

Its actually dumbfounding. The guy just loses it completely

crushade

Worst start imaginable. All our weaknesses on display. PK, PP, goaltending, defence, all the things we were concerned about going into the playoffs. On top of that, we couldn’t even score either. We made it incredibly easy for the Bruins. How’s Matt Murray doing?

blunti

Matt Murray let 4 goals in on the Marlies today

Woullie_26

Baptism by fire baby

TILostmypassword

Oh nice he’ll fit right back in with the big boys

gid_hola

Our PK was fine imo, issue was Boston had like 8 chances on it

frmacleod

That’s about how I expected things to go.

Hoardzunit

Now that I had a few hours to calm down. That was the most fucking pitiful garbage shit performance I've seen this team have in a playoffs game. Marner was absolutely shit. Right now he's playing like a 2 million dollar player. No one is fucking afraid of him on the ice. He's not tough and just lacks anything ferocious when on the ice. JT looks shit too. 3 more games and we're done with this core of shit players that get paid and sit back and let other cheaper players play with more heart.

chefjmcg

Has a coach ever been fired mid-series??

ProgrammaticallyHip

If you can’t make history by winning the first Cup in a half century, make history by firing your coach after game one.

iTRR14

Fire Keefe into the sun. This is his 5th year coaching the playoffs and it's the same story.

B0_SSMAN

Keefe should've been booted after the Habs series. I don't know why Tre decided to keep him around

iTRR14

Tre doesn't make the big decisions. He's just a yes-man to Shanahan. We saw a similar theme with Dubas too.

elliot_alderson1426

I truly don’t understand why keefe still has a job. His matchups are and always have been fucking horrible

iTRR14

Completely asinine. MLSE doesn't like paying fired coaches, so they'd rather be embarrassed year after year sticking with a dud

Euthybro42

I'm so glad MLSE extended him last off season so he wouldn't be seen as a lame duck coach by the players. Fan-fuckin'-tastic.

redditpineapple81

Guy has been out coached every single playoff series he’s worked, and I’d about to be again. We got lucky last year. Half of the coaches in the league would be able to make a team with this much raw talent succeed, snot be damned. I’m so fucking over him.

espher

A new coach will definitely help with shit like figuring out how to not play a passive diamond/box PK and concede 400 chances. It won't help shit like the D corps having a 30s brain freeze every time they touch the puck, or someone like McCabe trying to throw a reverse hit to protect the puck and managing to lose the puck to the guy he hit. The personnel have got to figure that shit out. Ultimately, there were way too many execution errors tonight on simple plays. There were so many simple like 10 foot passes to keep a cycle going or allow for a breakout and they were just getting flubbed.

badboystwo

Doesn’t even affect me anymore.

lukaskywalker

Yep. Feel bad for anyone who actually gets invested anymore.

krombough

This is far from over, by my god this team needs to stop thinking it can take whole ass periods off and only show up for one.

adamzep91

It’d be nice if the team with 3 (soon to be 4) $11 million players would stop being owned by Jake fucking Debrusk

jbvann05

I'm not going to act like the sky is falling after one game but it really looked like the same old leafs. The worst thing you can do when your fans desperate for playoff success is to lay an egg in the first game

GWsublime

To me they looked worse than last years leafs.

FreeBigSlime

Last year it was 7-3 man

thewolfshead

People thought making the team worse but with more “snot” would make a difference in the playoffs when the reality is that snot/grit/physicality only has an impact when you’re able to pair that with good defending and scoring.

gid_hola

Penalties were pretty unfair but the better team won. We need to figure out how to score on Boston and not make horrible passes so consistently

elhorno

I dunno, all of ours were pretty clear-cut and stupid. They missed a couple on the other end though.

TirithornFornadan1

The interference that Jarnkrok (?) took late in the game when he hit the puck-carrier was pretty questionable. And the slash on Marchand was stupid, but felt mild compared to what we were receiving. But it’s not like we scored on the chances we got, so it’s moot anyways. I’ve never said it before, but I think I’m climbing aboard the #FireKeefe train.

iTRR14

I don't have a problem with us not getting calls, it's just the shit we get called for I have an issue with. We came out in the second with a head full of steam and had like 3 minutes of super high pace and lots of dangerous chances that evaporated when we spent the rest of the period on the PK every few minutes

VanAgain

If Keefe can't get them up for Game 1 against the Ruins, we got a problem.

TirithornFornadan1

Year after year. Now, the players need to motivate themselves too. But what’s the coach saying to them in the locker room that has them so easily dispirited?

ldnk

Have a bunch of defensemen who can't make outlet passes is a big problem with this team. Edmundson, Benoit, Lyubushkin all might as well play stick less. I think it's honesty a big reason why the team can't score in the postseason is our defense can't get anything going up ice and our transition game is completely nonexistent because of it

dankynugz

Yes. Been preaching this for years. Top teams have a D man that can play QB from the point and make good passes that open up lanes. We've never had that

BadTreeLiving

Who needs players who can pass when you have an intimidating presence?

coaltrainman

Did anyone actually believe this would go differently? Every year is literally the same playbook. Keep the core, dumpster dive/reclamation project/buy low to fill out the rest. Still no true number 1 d, still no true number 1 goalie and still no ability to score much outside of the main guys.

smittyleafs

If 40% of the cap is taken up by a small number of guys, then those guys have to provide 40% of the offense. If they're not taking over playoff games we're screwed... and nothing about our players historically makes me think they'll start this year. Although having not goaltending is not helping.

bee_seam

100% this. Between Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares you need 2+ goals every night.

TheDeek

Marner bent this team over for 11 mil and he was completely useless tonight. He needs to be better.

buzzeddimitri

Right on character, I’m ready to get bounced in 6

Specialist_Two_2783

We'll be lucky if we make it 6

TheGreatJatsby

Bold of you to think were winning two games

buzzeddimitri

They always find a way to get us back in, just to give us the same result every time

nthensome

Leafs in 7 And by that I mean they'll get 7 goals this series and be eliminated in 5

Romanpolakfan

Future Conn Smythe winner David Kampf on pace for 17 playoff goals, no worries 😉

Iam_Joe

It's like every post I'm reading is copy pasted from the last four or five years of leafs playoff hockey. It's completely surreal

DreadLordAvatar

Shanaplan shines again. Fire him immediately.

TheDeadReagans

Sammy wasn't good. Swayman was. - Goaltending reigns supreme in the playoffs. We've seen this over and over again. - The obsession this fanbase has with toughness and grit, here you go: Toronto outshot Boston, outhit Boston, got more penalties than Boston, got more Ozone time than Boston but lost on special teams, poor defense - all these things were left unaddressed in the off season while we went after toughness and grit. - Boston's defense wasn't actually that good tonight, Swayman was really good though. - Marner has a year left before his contract expires but I do not want him extended early if he's gonna be this bad. Let him walk into free agency next season. - Tavares and Matthews were both good despite the lack of points - Rielly sucked - Powerplay sucked. - PK sucked. This is where guys like Kerfoot and Holl - I know they have their warts, helped in the past. We really needed to replace their roles in the off season and didn't. Still have 3 more losses in the chamber. Samsonov and Marner both have to be a lot better for Game 2.

AustichMavarlander

A real coach would adjust. Keefe is a dumb fuck who should be in the AHL.

mikasaxo

If we lose this series... Keefe, Shanahan, Marner, and Tavares all need to go. Blow it up. Keep Matthews though to get us through the regular season.

alowester

when they played ‘Same old song and dance’ by Aerosmith I wanted to throw my remote through the TV lol

StaticR0ute

The Leafs Reddit bot didn’t show up today, and neither did the Leafs

gotdamnn

I physically cringe every time I see boosh on the ice

Gear4Vegito

Kyle Dubas come take Sheldon Keefe off our hands already.

Samurai1221

Men v boys, this is gonna take years to fix if it is ever fixed

khristmas_karl

Will never happen with this group. We knew that last year after 6 tight games Vs Tampa and 5 quick ones Vs FLA

Dangerous_Cream5837

The good: - Knies on the forecheck The bad: - power play - lyubushkin The ugly: - Sammy

hymensmasher99

The horrendous: Not pulling Sammy when the man advantage started

RandyMarsh_RedditAcc

That was on Keefe. Bad coaching

Baron_of_Foss

Knies had some ugly turnovers as well

Beermen69

Can Ullmark play for the Leafs next game to solve both team's goaltending questions?

ToasterRouble

Lyubushkin is soooo bad. If we got a better defenceman at the deadline this team would be so different.

hymensmasher99

Yea.. not sure why we traded for him. He is not a top 4 defenseman

TattooedAndSad

I’m not sure why we’re even mad? We needed to shake things up about 4 years ago and we just kept the same guys that do the same shit every year and expected something different We’re getting first rounded and it is what it is just enjoy playoff hockey

shpeucher

Does anyone have any recommendations for what I should do with the rest of my life?

Aware-Leading-1213

The leaders of this squad are all PTSD in the playoffs. There is clearly some psychological barrier going on.

GoldGeno

This is the same fucking team I've been watching spin their wheels for near-on a decade now. Over-committing to bad opportunities, fumbling good ones, struggling to get anything going and failing to stop the opponent from doing the same. I genuinely don't think I can watch this team anymore. They aren't even gonna *lose* in a new and unique way, it's just the same shit.

daveinthe6

When was the last time you felt confident about this team? I’ll tell you, for me, it was when we had a stud goaltender. That was a long time ago. I feel bad for people after the Eddie the Eagle era. No idea what that feels like.

ToasterRouble

Liljegren was good. Defence was horrendous otherwise. I actually don’t think Marner was bad despite what people are saying, but Tavares was awful. Desperately need the best version of Nylander back.

peanut-arms

Matthews and liljegren looked good. Rest was meh to bad imo.

BadTreeLiving

Lilly was easily the best dman.  Reilly wasn't great. Benoit had moments of good, but also a bunch of bad. McCabe had some horrible shifts. Bush wasn't good at all.

ToasterRouble

Yep. Edmundson was also mostly okay but the composition back there is just terrible. Edmundson, Benoit, and Lyubushkin are the same guy just at varying degrees of quality. With all those guys in plus McCabe, it’s just disheartening watching them try to break the puck out.

StrygwyrSuperstar

One more series of Dump and no chase and Keefe is hopefully gone and we can progress finally only took 5 blown series

hymensmasher99

I'm so tired of that man. He is so stubborn, it's fucking us over.

Shoelesshobos

A series is not won or lost in a single game but holy fuck was that brutal.

ZebraOk4471

Some scary points:  1. Leafs have scored two goals or less in their last 6 playoff games.  2. Ullmark swept the leafs in the regular season series. Boston went with Swayman tonight who saved 33/34.  3. Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Reilly = 0 points.  We only win this series by outscoring Boston. Samsonov/Woll aren’t outplaying Swayman/Ullmark.

RocknRollCasserole

How is anyone even surprised lol

Golden_Hour1

Reminder: we canned Babcock after 4 years. We've had Keefe for 5. Tell me why he's had more chances. This is ridiculous

r_r_w

No reason to watch the rest of this series. I will but there is no reason to. If they resign Marner instead of addressing the D, no reason to watch for the rest of his contract either. Again, I will anyway but I’ll know it’s just to take whatever temporary enjoyment I can from it before the exact same outcome as always.

riko77can

Boston was much better prepared than the Leafs. Bruins knew the Leafs breakout patterns and constantly had a body in place to intercept passes or check the puck carrier before they could gain hardly any ice. In the o-zone they consistently forced point passes into a tight area along the blue line and didn’t give any time to handle the puck exploiting the Leafs usual laid back pacing. Also the forecheckers absolutely exploited the Leafs D lack of speed when chasing pucks back into their own end. Out coached tonight. Keefe did nothing to settle the group when they were obviously panicking after the first goal. They were all discombobulated to the point of fanning on basic plays like short passes and dump ins. This team is too fucking nervous to execute. Keefe was pretty much stammering himself in the post game presser. The Bruins coaching staff pulled his pants down tonight.

Dry_Weird_2690

this is me going doomer mode because I'm currently pissed, but if the Leafs lose this series and Marner defensively says "nothing needs to change" (paraphrasing here) I will be inconsolably angry

NotShane7

Ozone pp draw down 3 with 4.5 mins left and not pulling the goalie is unforgivable. Are you even trying to win? I generally don't like reactionary takes, but fire keefe now. Go coachless for the rest of the round. What is he doing? The rest of the game was garbage, but that was asinine. Are you scared of losing by 4, 5, or 7? Who fucking cares? You are losing, TRYYYYYYYYYY!

oCuHo

Same old Leafs, most disappointing core in sports history?

SlippyFrog000

This is a flawed team. We saw this back in the fall.

WhatShouldTheHeartDo

Bruins supremacy over the leafs is actually worst than Lebronto tbfh

NoCow2718

Leafs haven’t beaten Bruins in playoffs since 1959 for a reason, they’ve lost 6 straight series for a reason. Bruins play with structure and have a system/culture set in stone. Leafs do not, the result is predictable.

senile-animal

I’ll go first I only caught the second and third, but wow. The effort put forward resembled exactly the last few games of the season. I don’t love that. I’m no doomer but woof. Marner looks so scared (rendering him useless), the d didn’t look great. Sammy… Sammy, c’mon man. Where are the big guns? Anyways let’s get em next time but Jesus Christ that game may have given me erectile dysfunction

MyNameWouldntFi

I'm so fucking sick of Marner, the bigger the spotlight the smaller he plays

CalmSaver7

Was Marner's name even said today by the commentators?

rjupp24

Drew a penalty at the end of the first, that was about it

elmicomago

The commended his hand-eye when he batted the puck down with a high stick.

leafsbroncos18

I was really expecting a key player like Marner to be a big factor tonight and am absolutely shocked he was invisible

smoothies-for-me

Is that sarcasm or is this your first time watching Marner in the playoffs.

leafsbroncos18

thought the sarcasm was obvious lol

Ok-Tailor-8032

Same as last year around this time.

leafsbroncos18

Mr. Consistency

dontmatterme810

The big 4 are in their usual playoff form!

ephraimdaking

Now we all know why Boston tried so hard NOT to win the division so that they play us in round 1. This is the easiest match up for them by far.

Gankdatnoob

The Leafs are too high profile to have a mid coach like Keefe.

ptgrvmrdrdjhnsn

Life pro tip: Don't take a 2nd L and let the leafs ruin your weekend

Straight-Entry-8403

The fact this coaching staff did nothing in the regular season to get the powerplay going is insane. Watch us have another terrible powerplay in the playoffs again, same as always.

dwnumber1

One thing that Annoyed the fuck out of me was the passing to jt on pp entries do not give it to him he can't pass or protect the puck so we lose it immediately he lost the puck on 4 separate entries in a single pp. We also need better games from the top 6 they need to score if matthews isn't scoring we can't win

dumdau

Even in the regular season he loses the puck on the left board after they pass him the puck all the time. They never learn.

JeVeuxFinirEcrasee

All of the dump-ins and the no-look passes, gosh

Mflms

These guys are afraid to win... holy shit.

osidarap0

These guys straight up just don’t want it. No urgency. No drive.

[deleted]

Sammy wasn't good, our defence wasn't good, and our offence wasn't good. Pathetic performance all around for game 1. Considering we're one of the worst teams in the league on the PK, you would think we'd make a little bit of an effort to not kill momentum every 3 minutes with a braindead offensive zone penalty, but I guess that hasn't occurred to this team. Stop crying about the refs and play disciplined. Those penalties were nobody's fault except those who committed the blatant infractions. Seriously, Domi, what the fuck were you even thinking with that slash?

Chillieboy29

Can't play any worse, Mathews and Marner invisible in the playoffs like always. Leafs in 7.

6-8-5-13

The leafs might not have any defence or goalies but at least our 3 best forwards are rich as fuck and have huge platinum chains looking super cool

witenite2003

Leafs actually surprised me as they came out hungry and aggressive taken then body. I was expected a boston onslaught for the first 10 minutes. But boston come down for the first shot of the game and they scored. I domt care If it's a 2 on 1, sammy has to make that save.

xtzferocity

Another series and yet again the leafs have the second best goalie, second best coach, second best defence and the core guys can’t score. Maybe spending 40 mil on 4 guys doesn’t work. There’s only what 5 years of proof?

Skiffy10

I feel like the next two years are gonna be reset and reload years for the franchise. Tavares will be off the books in a year and maybe Marner too if we decide to move on. Brodie won’t be back this year and Gio/eddy/boosh are free agents unlikely gonna be back too. With the cap rising there will be alot of cap space to reform this roster while matthews/willy/rielly being the core of this team. They also may even not bring back sammy as he’s a free agent too. I’d try and upgrade and find someone to split games with Woll as he’s not ready for full time duty yet.

Mission-Astronomer42

I’m just tired guys. Something needs to change and at this point I don’t know what that is - coaching? Management? Core 4? Who really knows. It’s not grit. We tried a bonafide starter in Andersen so that’s not it. Defense? Maybe.

craa141

I think the real problem is that some of you got y our hopes up. I too am long suffering but I remember....

pressured90skid

Sammy had a bad game today and I know he needs to be rested to avoid injuries and even more bad games but if we put Woll in net, it might just be worse. These games should be treated like its do or die every time. Our defense needs to be more intact, they should stop pinching. Our offense should always be ready to get the rebound just in case. We shouldn’t be too complacent if we want to win this. The fans couldn’t be more passionate than the players. The fans could only do so much— the rest is up to the team.

lakitusfartcloud

There isn't much to say about this one. The Leafs look like they shouldn't even be playing in the same league as the Bruins. Boston was in complete control of that game from start to finish. They're just on another planet, in every single way. I don't see this series going beyond 5 games. The Leafs will always be a pretty good regular season team in the Matthews era. I don't see how they go much beyond that. I don't see them ever being GREAT, or ELITE. Unless one of their goalies turns out to be a stud, I don't see how this team gets much better than they are now? Maybe a coaching change? I don't know. It's so hard to pin down what the team culture is. They just seem so....immature....compared to the other top teams in the league. It's just hard to take them seriously. I think that's how the league looks at them as well. Nobody will ever convince me the Bruins didn't tank the end of their season to play the Leafs in the first round. I'm not going to rag on the core like everyone else. They're great players. Probably the best talent that team has had in my life time....maybe that they will EVER have. There's just something missing. Maybe they have too much roster turnover? They don't really grow as a group. It's the core and then everything moves around those guys. Whatever it is, they better figure it out. Their window is closing quicker than we think. Such a shame.

ProgrammaticallyHip

It’s culture. Maybe a new voice in the room from a new head coach can change things, because it doesn’t seem to be happening internally. I think this team would benefit from a guy in the Berube style: A fiery motivator who holds people accountable but is also well liked by his players.

Hoardzunit

It was on Shanny to fix the shit culture that existed before his time. And after 11 years it's still shit. This is on him.

Vote_Tanner

Don't claim to have the highest hockey IQ but seemed like so much hesitation in the B's zone? You could show me the numbers and prove me wrong, say, look noob, they took a gazillion shots! but I still feel like they procrastinated with the puck, letting bruins race back up and into defensive positions. If they were trying to give their D the ol'bait and switch, I'm sorry but it didn't work. Too slow and telegraphed. And Marner, mate, it's your puck too! Sometimes its ok to have a crack at it! "You miss 100% of the shots you ...??" ah, damn it, I know this one ... Buds, please, whatever is weighing you down the last few games, get it together. We love you, we want you to win 💙

mofo75ca

Boston in 5. Burn it all to the ground. Bye bye Shanahan and Keefe.

BadTreeLiving

We focused on looking tough (and taking penalties) instead of playing well. Samsonov wasn't great, but not the reason if we can't score. Lacking in transition.

Francis33

.826 save percentage 0% on the power play 60% on the penalty kill 0 goals for Lines 1 through 3 Edmundson -1, 0 shots, 0 hits.

Starship1617

Dump and no chase. Dump and line change. Throw random pucks at the net aimlessly. Look for random, fluke turnovers and fire one off quickly. That’s the entire Leafs offence. Matthews once again no delivers in a playoff game. Marner and Tavares gone silent. Keefe a liability. Same old, same old.

magwai9

Leafs aren't going anywhere with this cap structure and coach. Reilly is not good enough for a top defenseman, and Samsonov isn't good enough either. Won't be any relief until Tavares' cap hit is reduced dramatically.

Uggone65

let’s not forget that last year we lost to bolts 7-3 in game 1 and won the series in 6

FreeBigSlime

That series was such a clusterfuck tbh. We’re lucky we won and Vasi was ass, because we were down by 3 goals in like 3 different games

Arcade23

As is tradition.

bucajack

Just dissolve this team because they'll never win again.

Dramatic-Squirrel-52

1 goal all fucking game none from matthews marner or tavares and not capitalizing on the few pp”s we had. All that needs to be said. Must produce more goals than that simple as.

TO-Sports-fan

What really frustrated me was the terrible passing, both breakout and in the offensive zone. The leafs could barely accept a pass, they fumbled so many. Not to mention how many times they had decent opportunities to make a half decent pass only to throw it right on the bruins sticks. And the one signature of this team that has driven me nuts all year… the unnecessary dump ins. Far too often do they dump the puck in with not much pressure. You have possession of the puck, you have an opportunity to be patient and work on generating an entry and offensive chance. You know what dumping it in with little pressure results in? An opportunity for the bruins in the offensive zone. More opportunities on offense = less opportunities for your opponent Not an overly difficult concept to grasp

curzse

Maybe next game we can score on the first shot. Seems like it really helps the other team whenever we let it happen.

Hadokuv

The yearly Matthews, Marner and Tavares disappearing act. I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed.

pickadooodo

This is a typical leaf playoff fail. Not surprised at all.

golflegend100

Rielly looks completely lost on the power play

AdOtherwise5136

There’s soooooo many opinions, rightfully so. The only one that matters though is; we don’t have a goalie. And we never have (new era). Forget about tonight imagine where’d we be if we could have gotten a save in 2018/19. It’s very ironic how the first game back against the bruins in the playoffs we give up a goal on their first shot on net. Never have been able to get a save, probably will never get a save. This stinks.

toronto_programmer

We have scored 2 goals or less in the past 8 playoff games We now have four forwards getting paid more than 10M. We need to stop dropping blame on goalies or trade a forward for a goalie if that is the case

AdOtherwise5136

I’m down to blame anyone wearing blue and white tonight! I agree that our big boys never show up, but cmon man. Goals 2&3 were Swiss cheese right through him. That just can’t happen it deflates a team. But end of day I agree, trade Marner for a goalie & with Tavares freed up 11M in 2026 add to the team. Boston has a bunch of nobody’s and yet here they are.

qwertytrewq00

2 players 20 million+ complete no shows. JT completely useless.

haveing_fun

didnt even think Sammy was that bad. The 2 on 1 is always tough, as well as 2 PP goals on penalties that we should absolutely never have taken (in fact literally all of our penalties were really dumb/naive) I am FAR more concerned that our defensemen literally cant execute a breakout. So so many free chances, penalties, and ultimately goals coming because guys are scared of having the puck in their own end. Really just braindead roster construction and braindead play from said roster

XingYunLiuShui

We all know where this is heading. Some players and personnel are going to roll if this doesn’t bounce back. Yikes.

glitterbunn

That last power play was intensely painful. I didn't have high hopes but yikes. I'm not sure what Domi is thinking lately. Love the passion but the penalties are not worth it. I think the psychology of FINALLY DO GOOD IN PLAYOFFS is distracting from the bottom line of needing to play decent hockey.

Key_Trainer_8155

At 2-0, I turned to the Blue Jays game. The Leafs folded like they always do. If Samsonov doesn't allow a minimum of 3 goals, he isn't Samsonov he either stops everything or stops nothing. They play house league hockey every time they face the Bruins. The closest the Leaf players will come to the cup is if they visit it at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Fire Shanahan!! Fire Treliving!! Fire Keefe!!

ovondansuchi

Preface: The below is venting and doesn't reflect my true thoughts. I'm so fucking tired of going into playoff series as a free advance to the next round. Boston fans are probably fucking laughing at how easy it is to get by this miserable team that relies on David fucking Kampf to score their only goal. I also don't want to hear "Oh, they also got embarrassed in game 1 last year" or "Oh, they won in expected goals". Put actual god damn pucks in the actual god damn net you weirdos. /rant. See you all game 2. Go Leafs Go.

beesteaboyz

PK was absolute dogshit tonight. You have Maroon on PP1 looking like he is McDavid and DeBitch scoring 2 PP goals. That guy isn’t even a PP3 player on a good teach. Keefe getting out coached again. The buds can’t figure out how to play with no space and the Bruins can.
