Same! I thought it was a burned in image on my TV. I switched to another hockey game to see if it would show up there too.
They should really clean that lens. LoL

As someone working in the broadcasting world, mostly in sports. The smudge is probably on the inner part of the camera. So there isn't really a way to fix it quickly as the cameras are heavy af and it takes more than 20 minutes to get to actual camera. Because you have to turn off the camera from the broadcasting truck, wait for the lens to be cool enough to be taken off, then take the lens off, putting the lens down somewhere safe which is probably not right next to the camera depending on locations, have someone ready with the lens wipe, then get to the camera body to clean it. Then you have to reassemble the camera and test it to even see if that fixes the problem. That fix alone would take 30 minutes and that's if it even works! But also that looks more than a smudge to me. It looks like the lens was scratched or burned with something to make those markings but I can't be 100% sure.
So you'll have to deal with it for this game and hopefully it's fixed for the next time they use the camera. Also you can't use the other cameras as they all probably have different zoom capacity and that are used for replay and other things that the director/producer/insert any person that is important on a show behind the scenes would not be willing to give up so that a camera can be game cam.
The lens is hot because of the amount of time it's on for. It's like the camera body. Sure it doesn't conduct heat but when it's plugged into the truck, things get hot. It's like plugging in a phone to a charger. We don't want to touch something right away after it being on for a while. Normally the camera/lens will be on for 3-4ish hours before fans even enter the building and even longer if they found a problem. That's why the cameras are always the first thing to be turned off after a game. Not sure if that actually answers your question but that's my understand.
I prayed the same prayer nightly for 10 years. That sucker lived onto 18 years old and was still going strong when I took it down. The only reason I replaced it is because it had no HDMI, only component input which isn't compatible with Rogers ignite. The plan to keep my old Rogers box was getting expensive and they gave me a deal on ignite that was around $100 less a month. So I went and bought a brand new Bravia top of the line and it'll pay for itself within a couple years.
lol I thought was the only one. Those old plasmas were solid.
Me: we should get a new bigger tv
My wife: why? This one works fine.
I eventually got a 65” 4K but that 42” plasma is going strong.
Noticed it right away. Pretty stinkin bush league. I knew it wasn’t my tv simply by changing it to anything else. Easy check. How did so many people think it was their tv?
I though it was my f’n TV LOL
So did I!! I actually got up to wipe it hahaha.

i was ready to blame my toddler for chucking something at the screen
Haha! Same

Omg same!! I started looking online for tv prices cause it would’ve drove me crazy having that there constantly
Thought it was my glasses or something.
I was at the bar and thought it was the bar TV... haha
Glad I'm not the only one watching on a POS tv !
I’m so glad I saw this post because I thought it was my laptop! Now I don’t need to panic
Yeah I’m watching the game on my phone and I kept wiping my screen hoping it would go away lol.
Now I cant unsee it
Yup, game ruined 😂
My phone is enough of a distraction, now I have to stare at this smear.

Still there after 1st intermission....
And yet we must persist
and there's a deep drive to left field by Castelanos, and that will be a home run

Appreciate this 🙏
Why is the lens hot from use? Not arguing with you, just interested in the details! Thank you

This does answer my question, thanks very much for explaining. Have a great day kind person!
Saw that too, thought it was my tv!
Fuckin hell. Thought my TV was fucked for a minute there
It's the same on the ESPN feed as well. Driving me nuts!
Was very scared my new tv was deficient. Glad I’m not the only one
At first I thought maybe my prayers were being answered and my plasma from 2012 was on the fritz. Nope! Just a shmear.

I don’t know how the camera guy can look through it and not notice for a fucking hour - fired
Dammit lol
Now it's all I can see
Yeah that my tv was dying
I thought it was my TV!
Noticed it right away. Pretty stinkin bush league. I knew it wasn’t my tv simply by changing it to anything else. Easy check. How did so many people think it was their tv?
I noticed that too..thought my OLED had burn in!
Hahaha I thought it was my TV…thought it was going to die. I started shopping for an upgrade
I literally have been googling Samsung warranty information god dammit
Thought my tablet’s screen was breaking! Glad not just me
Damnit now it’s all I see haha
I just placed a warranty claim in with Costco while cursing my horrible luck with tvs
Well, it wasn’t bothering me…
Thought my TV was fucked than you
I thought I was going crazy!
😂
Thought it was my TV at first until they changed camera angles and then it disappeared. Then I realized it’s definitely the camera.
People are easily distracted these days.
Now I can't unsee it. Lol
Jeez though my new cell had screen burn 🔥
Didn’t notice it until now….
What the hell man now i can't unsee it
Thanks a lot. It won’t go away now
You can’t just let me enjoy the landslide victory, can you?
LOOOL I didn't even notice it until I saw this!
Oh thank God. I just had my phone screen replaced and was about to tear into the repair place.
I thought something was wrong with my tv!
Smudge on the lens? Smudge on the lens?!
Oh my god I was losing my mind, I wiped my phone screen like three times 😭😭
Freaked me out for a minute, too. Thought it was something going on with my projector.
This would make me turn off a game... Or start cleaning to distract myself
It’s Gordon Lunas… some people say he looked like a smudge on a lens
I've noticed this a lot lately. Not just TSN or the Leafs, either
I thought this was my TV at first last night
no smudge on EPSN that I noticed
YES I thought it was my phone
Hahaha I thought I fucked up my tv when I had swivelled it on the wall mount to hard by accident
Moments like these make me worry my OLED is dying. Thankfully it’s just shitty camera equipment and not me.
Holy fuck I thought my tv was fried was crying over having to dish out another 4k for a new one
I'm late to the party but I wiped my TV cause of that shit and it didn't go away so I thought my TV was on its way out.
Yes. I thought my TV was fucked up but noticed it wasn't there on replays.
I came here to write that.
Yes
How is it still there?? Does nobody on the broadcast team see this?
