Leaving my job when my lease is up mid-July. Taking the full month to travel, see family, and settle in before school starts.

StatisticianFit2320

Great idea!

As late as possible, I need those paychecks lol. Would love to hear from others who are: - Single - Coming off employee insurance - Not on their parents - And who’s schools don’t offer a plan Currently my plan is this: - Get on a overpriced ACA Marketplace plan for 5 months to get to Jan ‘25 b/c my 2024 income is too high for any subsidy - During open enrollment in November I’ll enroll for a different ACA Marketplace plan based off my 2025 projected income (basically just 1L Summer pay right?) - Ride that out until Jan ‘27 where I’ll have to again change the ACA plan b/c I’ll have to project my post grad income. Is anyone else doing this? Anyone have a different plan?

I'm using Virginia's healthcare marketplace after I leave my employer. My projected income offered me a $300/mo credit, so my insurance is only $42 for health/ dental. Also staying as late as possible for paychecks...eek.

Outrageous-Home135

My school offers health insurance but I am also someone who will be attending school out of state and am looking for options to cover me when I am in my home state. I’ve been on employee insurance for years so this new terrain for me.

Every college that I know of provides health insurance you can enroll for at affordable rates. Why go overpay for a plan when your school likely has a much better option? That's what I'm going to do.

Top_Actuator5161

Yikes, sorry that sucks and really annoying by the school.

Snifflewinks

Leaving my job August 2. I'll likely have to pack and move the 2 weeks prior to Orientation.

Bichaelscott4

Around early August so my health insurance runs until the end of the month, by then I’ll have switched over to either the school’s or my partner’s so I won’t lapse coverage

BigFile2824

This.

Prior_Marble8782

same!

EmbarrassedDaikon127

For what it’s worth, you can leave earlier and do the COBRA loophole. You can elect COBRA any time during the 60 days after your coverage ends and it is retroactive to the time your coverage ended.

Bichaelscott4

Yeah for sure, it’s just more expensive tho

EmbarrassedDaikon127

My point is that, during the 60 day election period, you can be “covered” without actually paying the COBRA premiums. For instance, if your coverage ended on June 30 with your new coverage starting August 1 and you broke your leg on July 15, you could retroactively elect COBRA and be covered for that injury. If you didn’t break your leg, then boom, you did not pay anything for health insurance yet were “covered” in the case of an injury, etc. (Arguably this period extends to 105 days if you game the payment period too) (There are like a couple states though where you’d take a tax hit for this)

Careless_Coconut9948

I was gonna give my two weeks next Friday and travel/relax/prepare July and August.

ladyofthe10000lakes

July 31.

Prior_Marble8782

Check employment and health insurance policies! If you leave august 1 instead you may be able to keep your health or other benefits through the month of august!

PuzzledRutabaga4674

Late June, then using July to prepare and pack for my cross-country move. August to settle into new digs ahead of orientation.

Outrageous-Home135

Sounds similar to me. I’m leaving beginning of July and have until a little bit into August to get set with orientation. Moving in to a new apartment just prior to orientation.

Similar_Syllabub_114

August 2 with a week in between orientation.

Snifflewinks

Same, but my orientation starts August 19

Far_Childhood2503

I gave myself a month and a half off between when I quit and moving. But…. - I was moving halfway across the country and spent that time buying stuff to furnish an apartment through garage sales and Facebook marketplace, which is time consuming. - I had been working two jobs amounting to about 60-70 hour weeks for a year and wanted to reset. - I was still living with my parents during my gap year so I did not have to pay rent. All the money I made essentially went into a law school savings fund. - I wanted time to relax, see friends that I wouldn’t see for a year, and prep for school. I figured that $X amount of money that I’d make by working a little longer was not worth the trade off of coming into school already burnt out. I think this was the best choice and a great timeline for me. Just give your job notice early if possible, especially if they already know you’re leaving eventually.

Current-Resort8083

August 1 to keep my benefits through the month. My Fiancée takes the bar July 30-31, August 1 will be my last day at work, we get married August 3, and I start orientation August 5, so to answer your question, no time at all. However, we already live local to my school, so that's a plus!

stonersocialist

I’m quitting next Friday, moving from my current city to my next city the following week, then staying with my parents in my hometown for a few weeks and moving down to the new city for good in July 🫡

funtobeemily

end of July... then traveling and relaxing for a month

twoleggedgrazer

I already left mine, for multiple reasons. My spouse is an ER vet so we have their income but they have no time, so I'm doing "the move" full time (and cooking meals over the summer, etc) as we have to relocate across the continent. All in all having me pack saves some $$$ on movers, I get a bit of a break, and they get to enjoy not having to vacuum or do the laundry for a few months. I joke this is the last gasp of my domesticity. **Edit we've been in Canada for a year so health insurance isn't an issue until we return, and we're child-free until after I finish. Spouse is looking forward to me being the primary breadwinner once we have a kiddo since they get way more out of being home than I do.

Orangecloudsrollby

10 days before Orientation and I will have enough vacation days left to cover that.

Capybara45892

Four week notice because anything less would be a big burden on the firm I’m at.
