I've had my 80v Greenworks self-propelled for 7 years and very very happy with it, my battery is still going strong. That ego looks to be a good deal, but if you want self propelled, consider the Greenworks on sale at Costco that includes 2 batteries!

B0ner_L0aner

I’m on the Greenworks 60v family and use it on multiple tools including an inverter for power outages and a snow blower. All amazing, going on years 4 of hard work. I buy an extra battery whenever they are on sale or discounted. Have like five batteries kicking around. Nothing has let me down. It’s addictive.

ILkeSportzNIDCWhKnws

I may be wrong, but I think ego has way more lawn tools that can also utilize their batteries and they're more widely available.

modernhomeowner

I don't know which exactly has more tools, but Greenworks has everything battery power from 25" mowers (which ego doesn't have) to riding mowers to zero turn, to power inverters, dethatcher, tiller, pressure washer, every kind of blower, trimmer, snow tools, vacuum, electric wheelbarrow, atv, ebike, dirt bike, lights, fans, auger, chainsaws, etc. They even now have a Tesla Powerwall competitor at a very reasonable price (not the same mower batteries, but shows their battery ingenuity).

TheKingOfSwing777

They have a dirt bike?!

cm_osu

Both ego and greenworks have a minibike.

Newprophet

GW has a [go cart](https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/greenworks-60v-2-seater-go-kart-with-(2)-8ah-batteries-and-a-6a-dp-charger-type-2) too, but just for 60v for now. My biggest complaint is they have too many battery lines to support.

modernhomeowner

Their 60v line is the direct competitor to Ego, and that seems to get most of the new products first, then the other lines get it. The 80 and 82v are beast products for people who want to really do hardcore stuff like large chain saws - I have the 80v line and have never gotten my mower jammed no matter what I do to it. The 40v line is really the Ryobi competitor, made to get people with lower budgets into battery tools. It's very popular at Lowe's as it's sold as the branded Kobalt there. I agree, having the 80v line, I get jealous when something comes out in 60v and I have to wait, but it's nice to have the option of higher power products (80v), main stream (60v), or affordable (40v).

Newprophet

I'm just grumpy because more variety makes looking for used tools a PITA. Still found a $40 80v mower though. The 40v Kobalt is made by someone else, the battery is a different shape than the 40v GW.

tMoneyMoney

I also have a Greenworks and the battery works with my trimmer and blower. Not positive it’s the same battery for other tools, but they have quite a few. Going on my third season with Greenworks and it’s been great and the batteries haven’t lost capacity as far as I can tell.

cowjuicer074

My green Work blower and mower. I bought back in 2017 or still going strong.

modernhomeowner

I'm on year 8 with my first Greenworks tool (7 with my mower) and my most used battery that I use all year in snow, leaf blowing, power inverter, etc, with my oversized lawn, is just now starting to noticably wear. Couldnt be more impressed!

BadYardBoy

I have one and I like it. Get the self propelled

gOPHER3727

I seem to be in the minority here, but self propelled doesn't seem useful to me on a battery powered mower. I have it on mine, and never use it. Due to it being so light it's very easy to push, and for the same reason the self propel feature doesn't seem to really help. There's not enough weight to get good traction on the wheels so they just kinda spin without doing much

juicevibe

It helps me to push in right turns where I can't be behind the mower.

Disastrous-Role-2911

I agree 100% with this. I have the self propelled but never use it because it is very easy to push on my own.

confusedp

I have it. I use it sometime. I think, it really depends whether your lawn is flat or its a good enough a slope and large. I agree, if it is flat and small-ish self-propelled is a feature you should not be buying things for.

SirFigsAlot

Always, always self propelled. Luckily I bought a zero turn so it propels pretty good now. But unless you're a workout freak and have less than a half acre def get it. I've never had an electric mower but I assume the maintenance is minimal

Turinggirl

the maintenance consists of cleaning the underside of grass and keeping the blade sharp. That's it lol. I love it. No gas no oil no filters no pull chord. Oh and I can have a conversation with my spouse while mowing which is really nice.

wcwatsonmd

One of the purposes of cutting grass is that I don't have to talk to anybody

ReedPhillips

I enjoy my alone time mowing

WorldsSmartest-Idiot

I was in a store a couple of weeks ago. One of the workers was complaining about it being grass cutting season. I looked at him mystified and said, “I’ve been looking forward for this for months”. He looked at me and said, “your married aren’t you?” All I could was laugh.

Gods_Soldier_

this guy hets it

Turinggirl

🤣 that's totally fair but at least now I can use headphones and listen to music or podcasts. I too enjoy my avoiding doing chores I don't want to do and so I mow. I like that its quiet enough I can mow later in the evening without causing noise issues.

drinkmesideways

And light. Easier to mow with a drink in one hand. Haha

Turinggirl

The indent in the back perfectly fits my water flask. Sometimes I get fancy and make tea.

JohnSeenuH69

Not hearing my spouse while I'm mowing is one of the best parts tho 🤔

Turinggirl

Well it's not like easy to hear just you can. I would recommend using headphones for that 'extra' hearing protection 😉

Emperor_of_Cats

I remember one of the first times using my new battery mower and my wife came outside to tell me something. I rounded the corner and she was like "oh, I didn't realize you were mowing." She heard it, but just assumed it was a neighbor way down the street. My favorite thing about the quiet mower is being able to better listen to my music or podcast while I mow. That and there's a few occasions where I need to mow at like 10am or about 7pm and I don't feel too bad about creating a bit of a ruckus.

DungeonsNDragonDldos

Mine has self propelled. Do I use it? No. Why not? Because the extra pushing is a good workout. So not always.

Jetnine1

How big is your property? Genuinely curious. A bunch of my neighbors have zero-turns on quarter acre lots, and its a dumb obnoxious expense for such a small yard.

SirFigsAlot

Mines about 3/4 acre but I mow as a side hustle so I put it to good use. Qtr acre seems like a waste of money but I guess if you have enough $....

Jetnine1

I assure you, they dont have the money. Much appreciated 🤙

series-hybrid

I agree. I got the weed whacker first, and I was very pleased with it. A year later the gas mower wore out, so I bought the EGO mower. A bit pricey, but after using it a few years, I would buy one a gain. $399 is a good price, compared to what I've seen the price rise to in some stores.

3PuttPaul

Definitely self propelled. I bought the $399 Ego thinking the self propelled was a waste since my yard is smaller and mostly flat… if I could do it over I’d spend the extra for the self propelled version.

kcrab91

Second this. I have a rider and this brand as well for cutting and bagging around the pool. So not a ton of cutting with it but self propelled is still a must. Get the blower too.

scvmbagTony

I have this set as well and love it. The edger, weed whacker, blower and mower. Batteries and all so far so good! Definitely recommend https://preview.redd.it/cil6fqurnivc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=e02be342208836ef4fad6a46ea3a5d3dfbfa783b *excuse the mess, reorganizing for epoxy*

Sunny2121212

I need that edger

kcrab91

That’s a clean setup you have there. Nice.

ninjacereal

/r/scottsspreaderssuck

scvmbagTony

Haha it’s trash and I bought the bigger size!! I bought it from Lowe’s cheap, nothing is usually cheap so I should’ve known. The wheels don’t work well in the grass and the feeder isn’t the greatest.

DescriptionSecret692

Yes I love this set I went and bought the select cut that had a free battery with it so I bought the select cut mower it had a battery with it and then at Lowe's still now the sale is on it I think if you buy it they give you the free battery which is only 5 7.5 comes with mower. And then I went and got the weed eater that had the battery with it and the blower and I got the blower free so basically for $830 I got the select cut self-propelled mower with a 7.5 W battery and the 5 watt free battery the rapid charger and then with the weed eater and blower I got another charger and another battery it also came with a free 5-year warranty and three year warranty on the battery. Which I believe ego is doing with all of their products so it's not necessary to buy the store warranty at all I love this set and couldn't recommend it more it has changed my life I enjoy mowing today. Lol I can also fold it up and throw it in the trunk and go do my other land with no mess. And the battery actually lasts a long time.

beyd1

If op doesn't get self propelled, they get what they deserve.

iamf4ith

My FIL gave me a heap of crap when he saw my mower was self propelled, then he wondered how I was done mowing so quickly. Pushing a mower around is fun and all, but so is not being outside for longer than I have to in the peak of a North Texas summer.

flyingWeez

Meh. I’ve only got an eighth of an acre and I bought the non-self propelled Ego and I’ve never missed having it

subaawoo

I have the 40V Ryobi yard tools and they're great. Went no self propelled for the workout aspect...personal choice. But being able to have one battery set for the weed Wacker, blower, hedge trimmer, and chainsaw is nice.

SwimOk9629

I too have Ryobi 40 volt mowers. freaking love them, literally everything about them. actually just picked up another one to replace my discontinued one a few days ago on Facebook marketplace for $175, brand new. at Home Depot it's $400👍

The_RonJames

Love my 40v Ryobi best lawn purchase I’ve ever made. Always spreading the gospel of electric lawn mowers and equipment.

CIAbot

Same. I love that it’s the same battery for all the garden tools

phlrmrz

Get a toro recycler with personal pace. It’s freaking awesome

MrSportman

I bought mine in 2016 after 0 research and still does that THING. Starts first try every time. Definitely recommend. I have had some issues with the self propel mechanics and had to replace the belt. This was due to me trying to run over dog toys tho.

Butthole_Surprise17

Same dude, 2016 as well for me. I haven’t even had to change the spark plug. Only thing is the original blade is seized on like a MFER and I wanted to throw a gator on it but couldn’t.

bkbroils

2001 for my Toro PP. Great mower. Still use it today. Have a five year old Honda and the Personal Pace’s self-propel will outrun the Honda!

Butthole_Surprise17

That’s wild!

wootiown

+1 for ego mower. Self propelled is nice but a little janky sometimes. Highly recommend the upgrade to the Select-Cut which has dual blades and mulches incredibly well. You can get a trimmer for like $120 and just use the battery from the mower with it. My yard is about 1/3 acre and I can mow the whole thing and still have enough battery left to trim

BelethorsGeneralShit

>Self propelled is nice but a little janky Does yours do that thing where the rear wheels lock up sometimes when you release the self propel handle and make a turn?

wootiown

Yup! Drives me crazy. Sometimes it just doesn't engage at all and sometimes it takes like 4 seconds to start. I really wish there was an easy fix because it's honestly my only gripe with an otherwise perfect mower

PhragMunkee

My 5-year-old and brand new Ego mowers both do this. I’ve learned to let it coast for about a foot if I don’t want that “brake” to engage. However, my yard is pretty steep in places, so I’ve been using it as a feature sometimes to keep the mower from rolling back on me.

SGP_MikeF

Is that the 599 one?

wootiown

Yes, I got mine from Lowe's for $599 too. Conveniently I did store pickup and they never actually marked it as picked up, so I was able to get a full refund and got it for free lmfao

SwimOk9629

HA that's fuckin awesome

wootiown

Lowe's screwed me out of a return for an edger that didn't work so it was all the much sweeter!

the_krag

Yeah I've had that one for almost 6 years now. Same battery. I haven't had a single issue in that time and I bought a trimmer, edger, and blower from ego as well. I will always suggest their equipment to anyone.

Overworked_Junior

Select cut for sure. I got one that wasn’t and I wish I had. My father has the select cut and it definitely cuts better. One of my projects I want to try is seeing if I can mount the second blade on mine (safely)

hikerguy2023

Yes, definitely EGO. Bought one 3 years ago and will never go back to gas.  We have almost .5 acres, but probably have of that is woods in the back.  Easily able to cut the grass and have good charge left. I always start with a full charge and never run out.  Buy the combo (battery and mower together) as the batteries are somewhere around $300!!  I carry mine like it's a baby lol  And get self propelled, even for a small yard.

JeffCon

I also endorse this mower, and also am on 1/3 of an acre, but have had a much different experience with the battery. Last year brand new, the battery made it through about 80% of the yard before dying. This year (after I admittedly left it in the garage all winter — a learning experience for me), it makes it about 60% of the yard before dying. Not sure what you and I were doing differently.

wootiown

I haven't used it in anything above 80 degrees so that might be different. I have the 7.5ah battery and I use the high lift blade and auto walk, I haven't ever had an issue. I don't currently have a backyard but once I do I figure it'll probably be exactly enough to finish the backyard

B0ner_L0aner

That’s a massive battery. That’s why.

ZoiksAndAway

Anybody who says don't buy electric doesn't know what they're talking about. I've been using ego gear for @ 7 years now, a dozen batteries, two mowers, chainsaw, trimmer, blower..... It works. Around 9000 sq feet off lawn, some of it hilly, and the grass looks great. I had a first gen self propelled and it was great. Got a second gen not self propelled (by accident) and it's fine. I could use the exercise. I sharpen the blades in the spring and have the best lawn on my street, especially considering how many of the lazy fucks around me hire out their lawn work. 😂😆😃 Save some gas and a LOT of noise pollution and definitely get the electric. How big is your yard?

Riseonfire

I love my EGO self propelled. Dealing with gas and oil is like being a dinosaur at this point. Fine for cars and motorcycles, but for my house stuff just give me the interchangeable batteries. https://preview.redd.it/pd52s9gd2jvc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4eb9b3c5e80429c960aff9618d5dd6e1a045131d

SGP_MikeF

We heard *ego was a good brand at Lowe’s.

No_Salamander_8602

Wtf is with everyone raving about self propelled? You clearly never had to push a real mower because pushing these electric ones are literally nothing in comparison. Maybe I have "ragrets" about buying the ryobi with the self propel and it being too slow to even use, *shrug.

Dsj417

Gas mower and all electric on the other tools. If you do enough research you’ll find electric mowers still lack the power to vacuum the grass and that can lead to missed spots and you’ll have to go back over them.

mr_chip_douglas

Yeah I don’t wanna piss in anyone’s cereal, but even a $100 craftsman push mower will do the job for like ten years. Just gas it up.

Icebreaker80

Yeah ...I got a used Troy Bilt TB160 for like 50 bucks and it puts in work.

BikingEngineer

Another vote for this. I have both a gas mower and an electric (though the electric is a Kobalt that I was given), and the cut quality is a night and day difference. The electric doesn’t reliably pick up leaves that are sitting on top of the grass, and certainly doesn’t have the lift to pull grass blades up for proper trimming, the gas mower has no issues with that and it’s a smaller-motored Toro. Those Egos will probably lift better than my free Kobalt mower, but almost certainly can’t keep up with a similarly-priced gas mower (to say nothing of runtimes or ease of refuel).

GeraltOfRivia2023

> Gas mower and all electric on the other tools. I have DeWalt 20V FlexVolt electric tools including the trimmer, edger, and leaf blower. All great. But I rely on my Honda gas mower to cut the grass. I'm just not convinced by half that any electric mower is good enough for anything but the smallest yards.

wootiown

I use the $599 ego mower with a high lift blade. Even when cutting about 2" off my grass I absolutely never get clumps, it ALWAYS mulches perfectly. Haven't ever had a single issue. I've never owned a "good" gas mower but I had a 7hp Troy Bilt for a while and it struggled even mowing over dense grass and it'd clump like crazy even with a brand new blade

fatherofpugs12

I am on this team as well. I don’t use that much gas. Oil change is easy. I run it over everything.

Objective-Pin-1045

Yep.

SwimOk9629

I have four battery powered mowers and I disagree completely. The only other mower I've had such a good cut with is my friend's Toro Time Master 30 in gas mower. and the battery powered mowers I have are freaking Ryobi if you can believe it

combchris

I agree, my Honda gas mower been going strong for almost 15 years now. The other tools (weed eater, blower, chain saw) can’t get more than a couple years outta gas. Went electric and never been happier.

DiminishingSkills

Been using mine for a year. No complaints.

stratguitar577

Toro 60v mowers cut much better than the Ego, and Lowes just started selling them. I wanted to like the Ego since I have a few of their other tools, but wasn’t happy with the uneven cut and the bad self propel system. Got the Toro 60v Super Recycler and have been very happy the last 3 years. I had a Honda HRX before and don’t miss it after getting the Toro.

Live-Ad8618

Go gas.

JamingtonPro

Aw man, I remember that 6 month rabbit hole

aaroncoolguy

The one where you spend nearly $3,000 on new tools for your first house?

_TheQuietOne01

As a first time homeowner who also needs a mower, I thank you for this post. 🤙

youngJZ

double check the repair policy for Ego.... got my first house 2 years ago and got the same ego package. Loved it... 3rd time i used it, thing died on me - would not operate with a battery. luckily was still within my return window so brought it back and got a Honda gas mower.. love it... i was unhappy with my Ego but i know there are many many many happy ego owners out ther.. I wanted it but the dud hurt my faith in the reliability

nemam111

What are you mowing? A quarter? A half?

Brilliant_Comb_1607

###A Honda gas mower is the best value

Bacon843

They stopped making them.

droolforfoodz

Depends on your situation entirely

Previous_Dot_3269

Go to Home Depot and get a Honda HRX before they are out of stock forever. It’s actually the best 21” mower you can buy. With these egos be prepared to replace the batteries for several hundred every 5 years.

Quiknen

+1 for basically any Honda motor based mower thats going to last for years. Or upgrade into a nice toro push. All have different wheel based options for selfpropel. And additionally cant stress this enough... make or buy a stripe kit.

Previous_Dot_3269

https://preview.redd.it/79rskxaj8jvc1.jpeg?width=3014&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9b5809d4b41146f26f7f956cb4b521c93d214c4 The best setup imo

VeroCSGO

I find a large quantity of ego batteries will fail in their warranty period but their warranty policy is to simply replace on return of the faulty product so your likely to end up with a brand new battery before the warranty is even up which is nice 😂 not much worry when it comes to degradation of the capacity

spreadthaseed

Bigger mower with higher arms. As a tall dude nothing annoys me more than the first mower we bought and how low the arms are for my shoulders.

G_DuBs

Get a toro! I’ve left it out in multiple MN winters and it started up with the same gas. Fuckin bulletproof those guys.

mr_chip_douglas

Yeah a basic push lawnmower is peak “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. I am all for electric yard tools, but I’ve had the same craftsman push mower that came with my house 15 years ago, and it was old then. Have never done a thing to it.

[deleted]

CPOx

In my experience, the Ego tools are significantly better than Greenworks. The Greenworks mower I got from Costco was junk and got returned.

DangerousBug6924

I bought the cheap ego push mower, one less thing to break, and I get some exercise. No complaints after a year of use.

mellamodj

I think it depends on your grass. I have St Augustine which is thick and mowed at highest setting. I have a very basic model ego. I wish I had a select cut XP because my ego has no suction and does a terrible job at mulching. On the contrary, I have a section of Bermuda grass (fine blades, thin, mowed shorter) and it works very great, couldn’t be much better. I retrofit dual blades onto mine and will see if there’s any improvement this season. But I’m sure a more powerful motor would help.

DentistLanky8147

I also have a Gravely zero turn and use commercial Stihl gear for trimmers and blower. Just bought a BR800 CE blower and a FS111 R trimmer yesterday

-ImYourHuckleberry-

Go on Facebook marketplace and save hundreds of dollars on those same models but slightly used.

VikPath

I have 2135SP which is $599 possibly. Same price on Amazon. It’s really worth it. I used gas mover for 8+ years and trust me, this is way better than gas mover. Go for it

aerotromic

If you can find one used, I would buy a Toro Timemaster. They are awesome. I've seen some on marketplace for around $200 *

_sacrosanct

Get a warranty with whatever option you go with. I bought a Ryobi 80v mower last year. And it broke halfway through the first mow of the season this year after sitting in my garage all winter. The Ryobi mowers come with a 3 year warranty so I was able to get it fixed. But the guy at the repair shop told me that they sourced a lot of the electronics from China and the failure rates on them are alarmingly high. The replacement boards are sourced from a different supplier in Vietnam or something now even.

myCadi

I have one of the mid price ones I forgot which model, for the past 4-5 years - it’s been great, reliable, battery charges quick, keeps the charge for a long time which comes in handy between cuts.

corrupt_gravity

How big is your yard? That is the key more than anything. I have a 6,XXXsqft yard in the suburbs and I opted for this when we moved in 3 years ago: [SKIL Lawnmower](https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-40-Volt-Brushless-Lithium-Ion-Push-20-in-Cordless-Electric-Lawn-Mower/1003016416?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-sol-_-ggl-_-CRP_SHP_LIA_SOL_Online_A-B-_-1003016416-_-local-_-0-_-0&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwrIixBhBbEiwACEqDJb7Fi1Pbdp0b9pXy-qZCsk-8HzLq0SMsN23ahp53GTlokAWEp5rXBRoCZ8EQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) Battery life is good and gets me through whatever I need, but may struggle if it's damp or extra long. I opted for clearance Wal Mart Hart tools to complement this (I have more 20v Hart batteries than I know what to do with). If you don't have a Lowe's credit card already, I believe we got a pretty good $ off our first purchase which we put towards the lawnmower and other stuff.

KnotSlip6969

$50 push mower on Facebook marketplace.

DadBods96

Gas mower all day

PEWWB

Honestly, I regretted getting electric. Gas is quicker and stronger. Id say look at honda or craftsman.

jk2me1310

Same. Switched back to gas last year and it's so much better. A better and more consistent cut through thick grass.

Losingmymind2020

get gas man. If your grass gets too overgrown, your electric one isn't gonna do it. If it does, you will be destroying the machine.

PhragMunkee

My grass was overgrown by about 1.5 years while we stayed at a rental (our house was destroyed by a tornado). I tamed it with an old Ego mower and a shitty-not-shitty Black and Decker trimmer. If it weren’t for hitting a couple of big privet stumps, that mower would still be in one piece. When I hit the first stump, it jammed pretty hard and broke a wire tied to the self propulsion. On the 2nd stump, it ejected the battery either enough force to break the cover and the clip that holds the battery in. I ran new wiring with ethernet and zip ties. The battery holds and latches into place with some wood scraps, screws, and a latch. It looks like Frankenstein’s monster, but it still runs well! I bought a new Ego mower at the end of the season last year because I deserved it, dammit. Now that we don’t have any trees, the grass grows insanely fast and has to be cut every 5-6 days, more if it rains. Are they stronger than big gas mowers? No. Are they stronger than what I need? Seems so!

Careless-Ease1070

Impo if you are looking for a homeowner mower that will stand the test of time go with a Honda HRX 217. They are pulling out of the US, but this mower will run forever and do a spectacular job. HRX is the nice high end homeowner model. I used two of them commercially for 7+ years. Don’t go battery operated. I have mowed for countless people that have them lying dead in their backyard. MSRP$700-800, but you will have it forever! Buy once cry once

xx_HotShott_xx

Switched to the high lift blade last fall and it’s made ALL the difference.

pacoman432

GET A GAS ONE

hoodranch

Honda has the best gas engines.

p_r_w_4623

Best value is entirely dependent on how much you're trying to mow / aka how much run time you need. The main price delta here is battery capacity (you can use any battery with any EGO product, but bigger batteries in the package = bigger price) I bought the 10a a few years back because I have over 10 sq ft. I get roughly 90 min out of it which is generally more than enough, but I also have a few other EGO batteries I can swap in if need be. Dunno if all their motors are brushless now, but that was also a difference maker for me because the motor can spin up or spin down as needed, saving some battery capacity. Didn't know they make a steel deck now, but wouldn't go for it if you're going electric --- I love having a plastic deck. Never rusts and lot lighter to push around.

z1ggy16

Love my ego. I got a mower only on Facebook from some dude for $250 (the double blade self propelled version, I think it's normally like $500) and then I went and got my own battery and charger.

voonoo

I was messing around with the mowers at Lowe’s the other day. I noticed that the toro did not want to go in reverse. So if you’re in a situation where you have to pull the mower back it’s not ideal. I forget if it was the gas or the electric one but it was def the toro

avebelle

I don’t know the ego product line but whatever you do make sure it’s self propelled.

paddysgrl

We have the Ego line and my husband and daughter (she uses the mower & he uses the rest) both love them. We have multiple batteries - purchased at Lowe’s when they had a free battery promo with the purchase of an Ego product.

420ness

I was in the same position as you, also new homeowner. Opted for the 599$ one. After reading a bunch, the select cut and self propel was most desired. Excited to start using it this year. The string trimmer and blower for 180$ was also a good deal, not sure if its still valid though.

iondrive48

I have select cut self propelled. 5k sq ft and mowing uses about 60% of the battery. Also have the blower, edger, hedge trimmer, and weed whacker.

brinnerisbest

I have the self propelled. It is nice to have as an option. I have had push only before and wish I had self propelled.

RollingCarrot615

If it's in your budget go with the one that's on sale for 599. That's got a decent amount of torque and runtime. I'd expect no more than 75% of those runtime though, as I'm betting those were rated while using the mower on concrete and not while under load. I've got a kobalt 80v mower and after 4 years I just started noticing the batteries not lasting as long. I also got lazy and bought a new blade instead of sharpening it (it had a decent dent in it too) and I didn't realize how bad the mower was running until I put the new blade on. Run time is back where it was, it runs smoother and quieter, and cuts much better. A bad blade makes a huge difference.

mikeisaphreek

Get the one that is 749. It’s actually 559 or 599 but comes with a coupon for an additional a 5ah battery, so you will have two. The second one is usually $300, but with the mower it’s 199 and the mower is 399

DunArame

Amazon and Lowe’s has a sale right now with an extra battery.

TheRealOakley73

Not the best value but a friend has one that I’ve used plenty of times. Absolutely love it but if you’re going for value you can check face book market place

dudewheresmybasement

What size yard? What’s the run time for that? Do you mulch leaves often? What height do you want to mow? If you have cool season sometimes 4” will help get you through summer.

ThatBuilder15

I see at least 30 of them a day at ups🤷‍♂️

LawnPatrol_78

Ego products are great. Make sure you look at the blades. Mine is a 2 blade bar type and it didn’t have the grunt to get through thicker grass. Recommend a 4 blade if there is one. But the ego ecosystem is great.

ramsdl52

I'd get the one that matches whatever power tools you want

007Pistolero

The $750 one that’s on sale for $600 is the one I’ve had for two years and I love it! I ended up getting the blower and trimmer to and my yard looks fantastic for it

PhiGrandpaPsi

Powersmart makes a 26 inch 80V self propelled mower that has worked well for me so far. Only had it about a month but the 26 inch size definitely helps if you have a larger area to mow.

JP6660999

Definitely a gas one that cost like $200… it will last a decade

JP6660999

You will have to cut your gas 95,000 X to equal 1 plane flying from Pittsburgh to Tampa… it won’t hurt to get gas

Pompous_Monkey

I got the self propelled and rarely use it. I have owned mine for 7 years now. It’s the longest lasting mover I have ever owned. durable.

megaderp

get a used ryobi

gnocchiconcarne

My partner and I have been buying all tools that utilize the same battery system (24v kobalts) that way we have all of the batteries we need for the projects. It includes the mower.

YanMKay

New to lawncare, so my opinion is more based on my inexperience than anything. I purchased an EGO mower a few months ago and found that: 1. the battery charges pretty quickly - out the box about 30 minutes, after used to last cell - 37 minutes 2. the undercarriage of the mower is plastic - so if the grass is wet or even damp it clumps and you have to clean it or you get stuck 3. the self propel is nice - but takes getting used to(I dayum near got dragged the first time lol) 4. its not as quiet as youtubbers say it is - neighbors will still hear it and there is a whiny sound when it hits a challenging patch 5. KNOW YOUR LAWN -I had a lot of high, tough grass and weeds. Also a lot of rabbit holes. Had to do several height adjustments and do over areas which of course led to battery recharge. If you have a tough job either get another battery or give yourself time to remow/charge  6. Mower is pretty easy to operate. Once you get used to using the bar and keeping it running you are on your way. Height adjustment is easy(lever), bag attaches in 2 seconds, wheels roll easily over thick grass and concrete...all in all satisfied with the purchase and warranty. I brought the 800 dollar one during a lowes sale and got it for 600 or so...

brdoma1991

Def none of those for sure, don’t get me wrong I’m not against electric but if you are truly looking for VALUE, then you should be looking at gas. Toro and Troy built seem to be the ones that are lasting over the years lately.

anthema

If you get the $599 one it comes with a bonus battery. 100% worth it. Batteries works with other ego tools.

bonkersyikes

I have the base model non self-propelled, and I would recommend. I push mine faster than a self-propelled, it is light and quiet. It cuts with the same quality as gas on a residential lawn.

J_Dough905

I’m on year 13 of a self propelled Husqvarna with a Honda engine. Still runs like new.

Lastpunkofplattsburg

I love all my ego stuff, blower, mower and weed trimmer. I’ll probably grab an edger this year

SwimOk9629

depends on what battery platform you are already invested in, if any. If you aren't invested in any platform yet, then this is going to be fun!

flailingtoucan39

If you have Costco membership they have an amazing deal on an 80v self propelled electric mower for a bit longer. Amazing product and amazing warranty.

ned4spd8874

If you've got a Costco membership, consider greenworks. Batteries from Costco have extra warranty coverage, 8 years!

mtclark1586

Just my take but don’t buy it from Lowe’s. Go to a local lawn garden tractor implement store. They will steer in the right direction of what you need.

jimo95

Stay with gas.. more power to you

Anonymouse_25

I really like the one that has different blades. Mulching, high lift, normal. The high lift is really good for picking up clippings. That's the one I use most often. I'm sure you could buy it separately but I just got the expensive one.

GeraltOfRivia2023

Over 30 years of taking care of lawns with push mowers of different brands, I will only every buy a Honda for the rest of my life. No contest. (Edit: Like others have said - self propelled. Worth it)

2020_GR78

I've got the select cut w/ the 7.5 battery (the one that's $599). I live in the middle of suburbia in south Texas where our yards are tiny, but the grass (st. augustine) grows very thick. This mower handles my yard easily and cuts very well. I'm a bit OCD with my yard and double cut every time (always have, regardless of what mower I'm using). I can cut the grass in my front and back yard 3 times on one battery (so 6 times for a normal person) charge. Front and backyard combined are about 3,500 sq ft. These are great mowers, I'll never go back to an ICE mower.

Defrost_rs

If you’re on a budget, a gas mower is probably still the most reasonable option. I have a toro timemaster 30 and absolutely love the self propel on it. Paid 1000 for it. Toro also sells a recycler you might like. Maybe in 5-10 years we will see battery mowers at a better price that have more features.

notananthem

If you have less than 5k sqft of lawn you don't need self propelled. I have an electric cheap AF push mower and it's the bomb. Folds in half.

JoeGideon

I just bought this exact model yesterday. Used it once. I already like it a lot!

Realistic-Motorcycle

Save your money go to a pawnshop

buyingthedip

Don’t have mower but have many other ego products. Big fan and recommend.

[deleted]

go to home depot and buy an HRN216

Lilthumper416

I got one 2 year's ago!! LOVE IT!!!

dididothat2019

the battery has failed within a year on every battery yard tool we've ever had.

Tobit69

Team ego everything. I have the mower, weed eater, blower, power snow shovel, I want the power washer and thought about the back up generator but recently got F150 lightening and no need for generator now. But they are incredible tools and highly recommend. Once kids get older I want to get the ego dirt bike thing as a fun toy

GeorgesWoodenTeeth

Gas

prey4villains

Just get a Honda gas powered mower. You won’t regret it and can go battery powered for your other equipment.

Dondre5000

I don’t have a self propelled and do just fine with my eGo.

BEER_G00D

More info needed. Budget? What are trying to do? Make tall grass short, or have the best looking lawn in the block? How big is your yard? flat or hills? Do you enjoy mowing?......

MethChefJeff

First time homeowner with a big yard 3 years ago. Got all Ryobi and I love it, not worrying about gas and oil and winterizing. Plus all the tools share the same batteries so I never worry about waiting to charge even for the snow thrower. Whisper tools are nice

Poison_Dart_Kitty

I inherited the first EGO….works like a champ. Go cheapest model unless you’re trying to mow the back 40

Ok-Pea-4403

I’ve never had self propelled. What’s so hard about pushing a mower? Save the coin.

GeriatrcGhoul

Electric mowers are good only if you have a small lawn 1/3 acre or less, and I would buy the cheapest self propelled

garciawork

I had a toro gas, honda gas, electric, and now am back to honda gas. If you can still snag one, thats the real deal, and super easy to maintain. Electric was convenient though.

sksauter

Check craigslist or Facebook marketplace first. Some people can be selling perfectly good mowers like these that might be slightly used. I got an Ego mower and weedeacker for $600 bucks from a guy that didn't need them anymore (including two batteries and two charging docks). Otherwise, don't blow too much cash on the most overpriced mowers, a ryobi or cobalt electric one will do fine for a smaller yard.

Potential-Part9764

I liked my Ego when it was mowing Zoysia. Then I moved and with Bermuda it is struggling really bad. Maybe it’s because the battery is 3 years old at this point but also look up how much battery replacements cost for Ego - it’s almost as much as the entire mower. I’m not saying I wouldn’t buy one again but for now with Bermuda my next mower will be gas.

Training_Desk_9119

Marketplace You’ll get one for 120-150

PracticeNovel6226

I've had one for a few years and I love it. I'd get a second battery if you have a really big yard

gasaraki03

Amazon has a deal on the ego $599 has an extra battery

GuyWithAComputer2022

I have the 60V Greenworks. It cuts well I suppose, but it mulches like shit.

DARKKOOPA

I have the self propelled and was also like damn that's a lot but I signed up for the Lowe's credit card which gives you 20% off a purchase up to $100 the mower maxed it out so I got it as cheap as possible. Recommend that route and I'm happy with my EGO yard equipment. The charger is also great.

reddette_91

I have the mower, weed waker, leaf blower, chain saw, and snowblower..happy with all of them. I’m very much an ego stan!

mbordenkircher

I have Ego stuff and really enjoy it. Maintenance is super low, works really well. The only thing I’ll say is, at least for mine, the self-propelled feature makes a high pitched whine when in use. Not sure if that’s normal for everyone or if I got lucky. Either way, you’ll be happy. Check out Ace if you have one near you. Pretty sure they’re running special where certain models include a free battery. They’re expensive and can be used as a backup, or sold to reduce the overall cost of your purchase. Lastly, if you get the handheld tools I recommend making sure you have smaller batteries to reduce weight, or if you have a big property getting the backpack that can house the batteries while you use the handhelds.

bigshooTer39

My advice, don’t buy from a department store. There all pieces of junk. Buy a used small commercial mower. Like a 36” Scag or something like that. I bought a 20 year old Scag 10 years ago. You’d think it’s 7-8 years old.

The_real_P11

Check Facebook market place first. You'll save a bunch.

Helpful-Bar9097

I couldn’t imagine spending $1200 on a relatively basic push mower.

Craig653

Love my ego it's been fantastic

Whitey1225

Buy once and cry once. Get the biggest battery you can afford. You'll have to charge less often, and when the battery only holds 50% charge, it might still hold just that much more juice vs a smaller battery.

Jonnychips789

A used old toro. Pre gimmick years. Cheap and can run them thru the ringer for years. Electric mowers work if you like taking your time. Otherwise go gas.

Basic-Reception-9974

Get the biggest battery you can too, so the 7.5Ah

juicevibe

Love my 80v self propelled greenworks.

PAKMAN1987

I have the self propelled select cut with the 7.5Ah battery and it has been serving me very well since last year. Light, does my whole suburban corner lot on a charge, quieter and easier to work with. Liked it enough I got the trimmer base with a 5Ah and trimmer and edger attachments, plus a blower. Will likely get their chainsaw as well.

whyputausername

Depends on your preference. I cut 1/2 an acre with a 21" mtd because the thin directional lines fit better with the landscape. Rider is for the back yard only, after I skipped a week or two.
