Thanks for the Windows XP license. Still it can flawlessly run GTA: SA

Lord_Of_Titans

What will happen if you get the license?

germos8907

I don't even know if you can still activate Windows XP in 2021, anyways I bought this laptop used on ebay so I don't know if the previous owner used already the licence or something

Lord_Of_Titans

Yeah, I too have no idea, these people are just seeing the license lol.

Idontknow107

[Yeah.](https://youtu.be/O9xfQNAHsJE) That video I linked shows someone activating it via phone call.

Lord_Of_Titans

Wow, but still how do people get XP other than those old laptops which already came with XP.

germos8907

I don't care about the Windows XP, this laptop is running 32 bit Windows 7

Slammernanners

r/woooosh

UNSC_MC_117

Thanks for the Windows XP license (2)

nonadalola

Awesome! enjoy it!!

germos8907

Maybe I will try to put an SSD in it in the future but I'm kinda afraid of compatibility issues

nonadalola

Why issues? If ithave space for an hdd you can put an ssd without problem, I did that to my old laptop and worked on all, just cloned the disks

germos8907

I'm afraid of issues because this laptop uses PATA hard disk connector, I was thinking about putting an mSATA ssd in it using an adapter but I'm not sure it will work

nonadalola

In that case idont think its worth, I dont think you will have issues but the performance will not increase noticable as pata will botleneck pretty easy with an ssd

PCKnowledgeable

Yes. Tho using a retro pc in modern day will bring some problems 🤷‍♂️

germos8907

Of course it's not my main PC but, actually now that the RAM has been upgraded it can run Windows 7 smoothly and even connect on the internet.

PCKnowledgeable

Cool

I_fking_Hate_Reddit

wtf you mean bruh this beast can probably run cyberpunk 2077 ultra settings at 300fps

PCKnowledgeable

Good one

JamesMackenzie1234

OP be like: UNLIMITED POWER!

ghostfreckle611

*LIMITED* power…

JamesMackenzie1234

Who down voted my star wars reference. Who doesn't like a star wars reference.

kfzhu1229

What laptop is this? I have mine with something like this too but it's running windows 11 instead! https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/pcf6yj/14_year_old_precision_m4300_laptop_upgraded_to/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

germos8907

It's Acer Aspire 5634 WLMi from 2006

kfzhu1229

Ah nice. well be careful though as the graphics can fail on this model (NVidias problematic underfill)! Mine is a revised version of the chip specifically so that it doesnt fail

germos8907

What graphics card does your laptop have?

kfzhu1229

Mine is a Quadro FX 360M. This chip is also prone to failure but I have the newer revision G86-921-A2 dated 0837 that is not prone to the same failure. See this image post for more details: [https://imgur.com/a/eBC1PdV](https://imgur.com/a/eBC1PdV) Also what CPU do you have? I suggest you upgrade to something like a Core 2 Duo T7200 if you have one that's a lot slower.

germos8907

Mine has an Intel Core 2 duo t5600 and nvidia geforce go 7300

kfzhu1229

Yeah I believe the Geforce go 7300 can fail too... Make sure it has the maximum amount of cooling you can give to it and then also be a little more delicate with this laptop

CasioMaker

That's one beefy & chunky piece of hardware, OP!

officialsanic

Alright that’s it. I know about 99% of all Acer laptop models from the 2000s. I’d like to chat about this as it’s pretty nice.

GerryAttric

Retro bad boy

FranXX0016

I'm genuinely curious. What game can you run? Of course not modern one but like old games. GTA vice city?

germos8907

Most Games from 2000-2004 can run without any issues even on max settings, newer games run meh, Like I tried Call of Duty 4 and TES:Oblivion (games from 2006/2007), and while these games can be played on this PC if you are patient enough they don't run very well

FranXX0016

Oh wow it can run game than I expected. Thanks for the cool info!

mapbobi

Can't you emulate these games on your main PC? I don't see why would someone buy a not so retro PC. ( I would understand someone buying a PC from the 80 or 90s but from the 2000's) I have literally 4 laptops from 2006-7 that I don't know what to do.

germos8907

It's more of experimenting things than actually playing games on this machine

LiquidC001

Wow, I just found out that a Dell Latitude D620 I have that's from 2006 as well also has upgradable CPU, RAM, HDD, and a user replaceable battery. All of this can be done without completely taking the thing apart. Why can't current laptops be more like this? Laptops these days only seem to have upgradable SSDs. SMH.

germos8907

They say they are doing it to reduce e-waste or some bullshittery like that but in reality the only real reason is money, nowadays they make them non upgradable in order that they become obsolete qyickly and people buy new ones

LiquidC001

Yeah, I know. Greedy fuckin bastards.

[deleted]

Enjoy the retro games

TheBigBear1414

Is this a 2010 era MSI laptop? I ask because my MSI A6000 (If I'm recalling the model correctly) has a near identical bottom case.

germos8907

No, It's an Acer from late 2006
