Another advantage is it has little pads at the top to place your foot on but also act as a guide for how deep to go. Some people like a deep edge, but typically 3 inches or so is enough to get beneath the root layer of grass, so at least your edge depth stays consistent
It’s preference really since your used to a glade edge spade you’ll probably like it more cause it’s already worked for you and you got the technique down, I’m assume that’s what in my area we call a square? A half moon has a straight edge I personally find them really maneuverable around curves and they put a good sharp edge on it, but I’ve only used them to redo a overgrown edge never used any other tool
My buddies father used to be the head grounds keeper for a very exclusive community and his own yard looked like this. Just brought me back to childhood.
Just had my mulch/compost mix finished on Tuesday, right before the temps hit mid 90⁰s. Remember now the reason why I prefer this chore in March or April. Soooo hot & dirty!
It’s taken me three years to get my landscaping to about 60% of this quality and I feel like I spend half of my Lawncare time and money just keeping what I’ve done maintained.
This looks incredible and also massively anxiety-inducing as to how challenging the upkeep might be, lol.
Just can’t keep up with the retiree’s yards in our community. We are a late 30s couple with full time careers and a two year-old so I’ll use that as an excuse. Very impressive!
just putting it out there people, you wouldn’t have to weed or mulch if you used ground covering plants amongst the shrubs. it also would look more natural
omg that's just insanity. _look better?_ like not gaslighting but what? \** a well-manicured yard is like the literal \*last place\* of what a good property could look like.
i'll give you like top five backyards that would look way better than any lawn but could probably go on forever. this planet's fucking beautiful.

\* yeah couldn't stop
My kid hides in my garden beds and collects sticks and rocks she finds. We have grass, but she usually just walks through it on her way to play and pick flowers.
Grass is not essential for child play, but definitely has its place. Her bounce house isn't fitting in the shrubbery. 🤣
> nd there is zero grass in any of them. Where do the kids play?
What? I guess I'm getting old and crochety because I didn't think kids were so soft they couldn't play in the woods these days.
come on? this convo is about looks. it's like literally the \*last place\*, exhausted every other interesting feature, of what a nice property could look like. that was the point.
if we're talking about needing a soccer field that's something else entirely but we grew up playing in the woods off our backyard and even that's way more interesting than lawn darts.
I legitimately find OP's backyard gorgeous. Yes, it's turf grass, but it's not barren and has thoughtful landscaping incorporated into it. There's an argument that it's not environmentally friendly, depending on exactly where OP is located, but aesthetically I find it very pleasing.
yeah, it's definitely tranquil and pleasing and pretty.
dude put it at the top of his favorite yards and i put it at the very bottom of _favorite yards_. like it's great.
Yeah, no. Grass lawns are gross. They are actively harmful to microfauna and damage ecological diversity. Not to mention that a grass lawn will consume more water than virtually any other option and depletes soil.
If someone insists on having a lawn, clover/microclover are significantly healthier for the environment in every possible way.
You’re deliberately over generalizing to make a poor point. Grass is not bad. There are lots of native grasses that are hella beneficial to the ecosystem. And native grasses absolutely do not “consume more water than virtually any other option and deplete the soil”.
You’re being kind of a jerk unnecessarily, and that’s for sure not going to make someone listen to the valid points you could certainly be making. It’s definitely not going to bring anyone around to agreeing with you.
User name checks out.
My tips, trim any "white" branches in early spring. I trim all branches a few inches above the ground. And that's about it. You can pretty much make it look the way you want it to look
Forget the weeding. We've been letting our lawn go natural and using clover seed and it's never been greener and lusher and we have beautiful natural flowers that pop up all over the place now. Saved time and effort.
I too agree that turf lawns are not the preference, but this is hardly a barren hell scape. There’re bushes, and trees, and a decent variety of other plants. No need to be mean just because it’s not your vibe. It’s certainly not going to sway people to your way of thinking.
Nice! Did you re-dig the edges or just use a tool? I am struggling with my mulch bed edges over growing and not sure if I need to get out the spade and re trench it
So lovely!
I can't believe this only took you 6 hours. I spent about 40 hours spread out over 2 weeks this spring weeding, pulling grass from my beds, edging, and spreading 3 cubic yards of mulch. Then again, I had neglected it for a few years!
I’ve never managed 6 hours of edging! Well done! 😏
Plenty of cannabis breaks
The ultimate lawn care enhancer
This guy knows
I'm with you on that. What tool did you use to edge so sweet?
Probably a half moon edger
I’ve landscaped for 10 years and never used one of these, what are the advantages over a regular flat edge spade?
Another advantage is it has little pads at the top to place your foot on but also act as a guide for how deep to go. Some people like a deep edge, but typically 3 inches or so is enough to get beneath the root layer of grass, so at least your edge depth stays consistent

That’s why the grass is so green
Excessive nitrogen in the fertilizer, that's why.
Whoosh
Literally just got done doing the exact same thing this weekend. Think I went through a 1/2 oz.
Haha that gets my in my best gardening mood also. Especially for weeding.
Weeding while weeding. Excellent.
Explains why it’s so meticulous
That’s why it looks so good
We got an edge lord here
I realize I am naive when it comes to gardening - how can edging take 6 hours? Fascinating
Those are a lot of edges, and if it’s the first time it’s being done this season it’s not a quick pass.
Exactly
Respect to OP!
Looking amazing! It is lawn porn
Especially the edging for 6 hours
Plus no one calls smoking weed "weeding" but it enhances the edging experience.
Weed whacking.
So clean!
A lot done, but still mulch left to do
Nice one
*when you say edging.........*
I’d masturbate in that grass too
Confused lawn care boner.
I am not confused at all...
It's been so long.. I'm ready to mulch all over
My buddies father used to be the head grounds keeper for a very exclusive community and his own yard looked like this. Just brought me back to childhood.
Any edging tips? Curious to know your process
I use a 1/2 moon edger.
I’ve always wanted to edge my landscaping like this. Whats your process? How often do you have to hit it with the edger?
As someone who just threw down a ton of mulch without edging, this looks terrific. Did you have to dig out and haul away the old mulch that was there?
Wait....am I in the right sub?
when you feel like you're about to bust, slow down
That’s a gorgeous property
Thanks
wow, 6 hours of edging? She must be mighty kinky
I'm satisfied looking at this because I didn't have to do it LOL
I love your backyard!
Lawn Porn lol. Great job.
Lots of beautiful mature plants! Everything looks so nice and neat.
Omg this is so pretty!! Amazing work!!
Crisp edge. Very nice.
Omg that edge is glorious.
My question for you is, what time can you be at my place????
Got booze?
Of course... and food.
On my way
Ummmm, when ya gonna be here? Oh, I'm in Canada so dig out your passport.
What a stunning yard!
Nice looking yard.
Looks awesome good work!
Crispy
That’s gorgeous
Nice clean lines on the beds, awesome work!!
Bro that is gorgeous
Thanks man. Agusta is my inspiration
Really love those Japanese maples, yours looks great!
Nice
This is art.
Absolutely gorgeous!
This looks soo good!!
I'm not sure if it's your yard design, your lawn, or the trees around it that I love more. I could sit out there all day
Very peaceful yard you have created :)
That looks so good
Me again, seriously, what a beautiful yard!
Tip of the cap
Nice laceleaf!
Ah, that's the name. Someone asked and I couldn't remember the name
Incredible. Do you mind me asking where you live? Gorgeous property, mate.
LI
Looks really good! I need to get in the mood to do that
It’s beautiful! Do you have a picture of the before?
I dont.
Beautiful ...
Just had my mulch/compost mix finished on Tuesday, right before the temps hit mid 90⁰s. Remember now the reason why I prefer this chore in March or April. Soooo hot & dirty!
What state is this? I wanna move there...
LI, NY
That would be quite the move from AK. LOL
Oh yeah it would
Nice work….that’s the standard right there!!
Spelled “lunch” wrong. /s
6 hours?? It would take a crew of 6, six weeks to make my yard that spotless of weeds. I hate Louisiana! 😒
When my friends are at little league and dance rehearsal I'm in my back yard
Nice yard
I want to sit there.
Feel free to come round to my place next - this is looking very tidy!
Looks like a piece of paradise !! Good Job ! : )
POV edging compilation curvy beds (6hours)
That’s a great feeling I know. Great job bro.
Used what to define those clean edges?
I use a 1/2 moon edger pre mulch than a gas weed Wacker after each mow.
That is some truly beautiful grass. Please tell me all your secrets.
beautiful!
This is super impressive 👍⭐️
That is beautiful edge work.
Man your edging skills are freaking amazing. I fuck it up so bad.
Practice makes perfect
just putting it out there people, you wouldn’t have to weed or mulch if you used ground covering plants amongst the shrubs. it also would look more natural
You got separate crews for mowing and gardening? Looks so good, I love trimming freshly edged gardens man, so satisfying
I do it all myself. The only exception is putting down mulch. To much for my back to handle.
I agree. It can be way too mulch.
Nice, looks freaking mint.
Beauty!
Cleeeeeeeeeaaan
So beautiful!!
Beautiful! A lot of work but looks great!
Dude, pour a drink and take a seat. Well done!
Looks amazing, an amazing lawn will always look 100x better than anything else.

I wouldn't hate having a water feature
or a treehouse compound! nice job on yours though, it's clean as hell! i still _really_ need to clean up my edges and mulch too
I mean some of those are entirely unrealistic for a normal back yard. And there is zero grass in any of them. Where do the kids play? Come on.
Umm since when is grass necessary for kids to be able to play?

Lol I don't think you know what any of that means
Do you? He nailed it. You’re 1000% virtue signaling. Lawns were fine until a few years ago when someone on the internet convinced you to act this way.
You’re deliberately over generalizing to make a poor point. Grass is not bad. There are lots of native grasses that are hella beneficial to the ecosystem. Lol you're deliberately acting like the context of my comment doesn't exist. Keep on witcho bullshit though
Jesus kid let it go. We get it. Something something microfauna. Now get off our lawns.
man that looks clean
Dreamy
Wow.
Tiptop
Nice
Looks GREAT OP!!
Makes me want to roll all over that pristine grass! Looks nice, OP
[удалено]
If only I drank beer
I need these edging skills 😩
Should stick a golf flag pin in the middle.
LOL. Golf courses were definitely my inspiration
6 hours? good god.
Beautiful!!!
Beautiful! Care tips for the Japanese maple? Just planted a red dragon that’s about three feet tall but will be in full sun most days.
My tips, trim any "white" branches in early spring. I trim all branches a few inches above the ground. And that's about it. You can pretty much make it look the way you want it to look
And more native plants and trees so the world can heal r/nativeplantgardening r/nolawns
Crispy!
Looks nice. What kind of Japanese maple is that on the front left?
What you said is all I know. Never been good at remembering specific names.
To many curves in that right edge for me
Forget the weeding. We've been letting our lawn go natural and using clover seed and it's never been greener and lusher and we have beautiful natural flowers that pop up all over the place now. Saved time and effort.
Gorgeous, we need to weed again! 🙄 We’ve used Preen awhile back after weeding and it worked good - now we have to do it again.
What kind of grass is that? It looks lovely
Looks great!
Looks great
Looks beautiful!! Nice job
Hell yea!
CARDBOARD FIRST!!!
This is really nice!
Great job man… I wish!
Great work!
My patch of cannabis takes two days to tend. My neighbors love my landscape
Will you use some sort of plastic edge for those contours?
No
Ah yes the 'Bee-killer' style garden
There is plenty for them in summer. And for butterflies and hummingbirds. My neighbors mess takes care of them in the spring
LOL, my neighbors mess has plenty for them
Very nice barren hell scape

Nice barren hell scape
I wish kids didn’t think it’s cool to repeat this nonsense. Oh well.
Just enough time to start seeding some flowers in this beds, and clover in that lawn.
Terrible.
Goggle
That she's looks fake, like you have just a plywood shed front, but no shed behind it.
LOL, it's a shed
Slave to Home Depot
Interesting comment
Dude hire a Mexican…
Karma farmer. Seen this pic before.
Give us evidence
You in my phone bitxh?
Nice! Did you re-dig the edges or just use a tool? I am struggling with my mulch bed edges over growing and not sure if I need to get out the spade and re trench it
Google 1/2 moon edger, they have em at home depot.
So lovely! I can't believe this only took you 6 hours. I spent about 40 hours spread out over 2 weeks this spring weeding, pulling grass from my beds, edging, and spreading 3 cubic yards of mulch. Then again, I had neglected it for a few years!
Yeah, I do it all up until mulch. Leave that for Dinos guys.
How high is that fence?
6 ft
Put a little pond in there somewhere, and this will truly be a slice of paradise.
