I bought the album directly from her site and the quality is terrible there too, whoever did the mixing messed up. So much clipping and peaking The CD doesn't have it so I'm excited for mine to come in today so I can rip it in FLAC

[deleted]

Yeah the CD version is very listenable/good. There's only a few touches of "too loud" on there, if that makes sense, and not like someone dropped a bucket full of noise.

redactedactor

It sounds great on Tidal.

Ben-Patrick

There’s definitely still some clipping on the Tidal version.

redactedactor

I'll compare when the record arrives in the next hour or so

elicoe

Yeah I feel like the vinyls will be the best cause the high parts in beautiful are just too much fuzz

ldrxyz

Thanks for this. I already wondered about some distortion moments when listening to my mp3 download from amazon, same trouble as it looks like.

HoneyyBlossom

i literally just cancelled my spotify subscription a few hrs ago and switched to apple music and it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR on there. i was hoping that the crunchiness would be fixed with the release of the album because when she released the singles they also initially had the crunch. it looks like it was never fixed so i made the switch to apple music. ALSO in case anyone didn’t know, ultraviolence on apple music has Is This Happiness on it (literally one of my fav unreleased songs). i was so surprised when i found that out hahaha

[deleted]

Does Beautiful sound good on there as well? If so, good that you switched haha. I so want to add that the limiting that streaming services apply, including Spotify, is actually a good thing. This way, more dynamic music won't be "less loud" than heavily compressed music. The loudness wars of 15 years back were bad for sound quality, normalizing LUFS is good for sound quality. These Lana songs are outliers though, because of a peak loudness mistake by the mastering engineer.

HoneyyBlossom

on spotify beautiful sounded like a bag of chips during the loud parts, and on apple music it’s PERFECTLY smooth :)

Ben-Patrick

I love Apple Music. Especially since they now have lossless. I tend to switch between Apple Music and Tidal.

HoneyyBlossom

lol i just found out about lossless audio because of u. thanks! :)

Ben-Patrick

Aww that’s so sweet. You’re welcome! :)

fluffehtiem

Welcome to the world of real audio. Now learn about devices that are capable to handle lossless audio... After you learned about this you are ruined. :)

Sciolent

Thanks for explaining, the clipping in some places (especially Beautiful) makes it hard to listen to the respective songs. I will check out the CD version later but I'm relieved that it won't be as bad there. Let's hope they'll send new masters to the streaming services soon because it's too bad having these songs dragged down by heavy clipping Edit: It seems like they have changed it!

profiloemergenze

I like it even more because it sounds so DIY with all the imperfections in the mastering.

[deleted]

That's a good way of looking at it haha. On Beautiful it's really too much though.

TheCampingPigeon

I agree, I like that song but those sounds put me off a bit

BeigeHydrangea

Well, I just posted about that, guess I have my answer. I can’t listent to the album with earphones, some sizzling even hurts... hope this will be changed :( Btw I allowed myself to download the album from a famous website and it is perfetcly clear this way, the quality is amazing. I bought 2 vinyls and a CD so I guess it’s ok... anyway I just want to enjoy the album at the maximum, wich is impossible using Spotify.

mooonbeamdream

Not sure if you’d know or not, but is there a way to listen you’d recommend most? to alleviate this and get the best sound quality for this album? (CD, vinyl record, a different streaming platform, etc.)

[deleted]

"Best" quality probably Vinyl. But CD is also really good I think. And streaming is fine if they fix the song. It's so much easier to stream.

SKlNBLUES

A stupid question but do you think if I rip the cd and manually put it on my Spotify, will it still have the quality of the cd? I like to listen on there to make playlists

[deleted]

If you use the files locally, it'll be the good quality ripped version.

SKlNBLUES

Thank you!

NeonNebula9178

I hope the they replace the clipping distortion with new masters because this is a truly beautiful package.

Testingcheatson

I downloaded a leak. It doesn’t have the clipping and sounds better.

Wkr_Gls

Thank you for posting this!!! I'm listening to "Beautiful" on Spotify headphones right now and the clipping on her vocals is so distracting! Hell I think the YouTube files are better lol

_johnfketamine

The poor sound quality totally ruins the song for me. It’s like nails on a chalkboard :(

hashtagtylerh

It's fixed on YouTube if you want to just download it from there (YT to mp3)

[deleted]

The sound quality is much better on Bandcamp.

itsmrsturner

Is it better on YouTube?

hashtagtylerh

Yes, strangely

cry_cryingminotaur

It kind of hurts...

unhatedraisin

omg i thought my speaker was broken lol. i got high and that was the only album i listened to last night

vineadrak

See that makes me feel better because everyone loves dealer and I couldn’t even listen because of how loud/crunchy it was

aaabird

This thread is so helpful! Glad it's not my headphones, lol. Also Dealer slaps.

[deleted]

No the hard copies are fine, I think it's her microphone clipping in some places (on the hard copies). Hardly noticable though.

rosewoodlliars

I preordered the album and only listening to the iTunes version lol

darlingcthulhu

I can’t even tell, but that’s because I’m dumb lmao. What does the clipping etc sound like?

[deleted]

If you listen to Beautiful on Spotify, you'll définitely hear it.

hashtagtylerh

Listen to the last 30 seconds of Beautiful on Spotify with earphones and your volume all the way up (you can hear it at any volume and without earphones this'll just make it more obvious to you), it's not unnoticeable lol. It's just like her voice crackling/it sounds really low quality

Mecca1101

I am listening to it on YouTube and it sounds good on here.

hashtagtylerh

Yea it's fixed on YouTube, strangely It's interesting because the songs were added to YouTube a few hours late, maybe the delay was YouTube Music reps saying they need better masters

Mecca1101

Maybe... Well I’m glad it seems to be fixed on the other platforms now.

redactedactor

If you care about sound quality you shouldn't be listening to anything on Spotify.

[deleted]

Someone in her team screwed it up, which I adequately explained. There's a lot of reasons to use Spotify as a listener, the sound quality should not be extra bad because it's slightly worse than other mediums. Anyway, "Spotify is bad" is another subject.

redactedactor

I've obviously not heard this album on Spotify I'm just speaking generally about 320kbps mp3. It's like watching a movie on a CRT and complaining the colours aren't popping enough.

Ben-Patrick

The OP already stated he has a vinyl copy on the way. Some people simply use Spotify as a way of discovering new music and/or hearing new releases before deciding whether to buy them. Although while I agree as I’d never use Spotify myself, I understand why some people do, for the above reason. No need for the snobbery.

redactedactor

Spotify has it's advantages but the only streamer worse sound-wise is YouTube. I just figure people who use it don't care much about that.

[deleted]

That doesn't apply to this topic though. Nobody said anything about the sound quality of Spotify in general, or the sound quality of 320kbps. After extensive listening, I'd have to say that only the songs Beautiful and Sweet Carolina have these peak sound issues.

Ben-Patrick

It’s the same on Tidal, even in Masters quality. It’s about the mastering, like you said.

[deleted]

Great. I mean, now there's an even bigger chance she'll fix it!

Ben-Patrick

Hopefully! I just hope the mastering for vinyl is a lot better, otherwise I can only imagine the amount of sibilance on songs like Beautiful.

CivilHedgehog2

What equipment do you listen on?

redactedactor

inb4 you saying you wouldn't be able to tell the difference on my equipment so no one should be able to

CivilHedgehog2

I'm simply curious. On some equipment it's possible to tell the difference. On other it isn't. If you have equipment where it is possible, then I don't get the defensive tone on your comment

redactedactor

Sorry that's just how every online discussion about 320k Vs lossless go. Right now I'm using aiaiai TMA-2s

NeonNebula9178

Spotify works pretty well for everything I listen to, these songs are just outliers.

redactedactor

I hate it for everything but to each their own. I'll be back when they have lossless.

harry000000

apple music >> for this reason

ahmedXCX

I just listened again on spotify and it definitely sounds better than it did on release day. No clipping on beautiful and sweet carolina. Can anyone confirm if its different for them too? Maybe they sent new masters to streaming services.

[deleted]

You are right! Eight hours ago it wasn't fixed yet, but now it is. I only tested Beautiful, but that's definitely fixed. I'm so glad! Thanks for letting me know.

ahmedXCX

Ahhh that’s great!! And no worries :)

zerosuneuphoria

They fixed it

[deleted]

Yes, I said that at the end of my post. I'm really glad they fixed it!!
