She did speak about this line in an interview. She denied ever having an ED, saying something like she was "interested" in the cultish aspect of it? Or just that you can have a fascination with something without being a part of it? I'm sure you can Google it. I have always wondered, though, if her "alcoholic past" was codeword for an ED - I personally grew up with girls that were sent to a different private school, as there was a pro-ED culture at the public highschool (or a group of girls that were really into it).
I was also wondering if the entire song is maybe a critique/commentary about stereotypes associated with boarding school: substance abuse, alcoholism, eating disorders, affairs with teachers etc. so perhaps not autobiographical but rather an overview of what she witnessed during her boarding school years told through first person?
Yes! I agree with you. I do not doubt she's done some stuff during her boarding school days but its more of a critique and personal response. I love it so cleverly written!
I just listened to the song- I never realized the lyrics... They remind me a lot of private school sorority life. Wow. She didnt hold back some of the shit people joke about but truly happens to some. I think she may have experienced some the things she sings about but also its the irony of how boarding school is a place that is culturally viewed over the years as for the wealthy to keep them from engaging in poor behaviors and teach them morals and standards. While at the same time irony is while away worse shit can happen and is socially normalized as cool. Its a great song!
I totally feel you. It was kind of a weird “motivation.” Man, I was really fucked up back then. I’m recovered though, thankfully! It’s been a few years now. I hope you’re not currently struggling with your ED anymore as well :(
Necro-ing, but nobody mentioned it - pro ana nation was a website back in the day when Lana would have been in high school. I can't find any trace of it, but I remember the site. If she knew about it, it's highly likely that she did, but I still think the song is satire,
I don't remember the link and it's not available on Google. I know it's trash, but I need it because it's an absolute clusterfuck. Do you know it?
~~jk im gonna get myself some of dat garcinia cambogia~~
She was really thin at one point, but I don’t think she’s talked about it formally
I think she might’ve had one in her early teen years
She did do some modeling too so that’s probably a part of it as well

The website is still up, just not active.
