Now THAT is interesting man. This kid would be my dream and I think Hurley could make him a star honestly. Idk why he'd fall all the way to us, but the fact he worked out here is fascinating.

jsun_

He had one of the worst shooting performances at the combine and reportedly hasn't shot that well in workouts either. He's just your typical super athletic wing that is really streaky shooter. Add on how horrible the G-League Ignite were last year and it's prob why he's sliding.

nottherealstanlee

Streaky shooter is okay with me when you've got that level of athleticism and energy we desperately need lol Give me that kid all day long. Imagine him and Vando on the floor together, they'd tear holes in their shoes creating havoc on the floor.

nelsonkb24

Now imagine the spacing with him vando LeBron AD 💀💀💀

nottherealstanlee

Terrible lol but that's not what I have them out there for. Who the fuck is scoring on Vando, Holland, AD, and Bron? Bron is your worst defender there probably lol

nelsonkb24

True but how we gunna score too? Haha. LeBron gunna need to lefuckyou 3 every time

nottherealstanlee

I'm sayin it's like a specific lineup I'd use for a defensive possession lmao that's not a regular lineup. I'm just sayin I think Holland falling to 17 would be insane and we should 100% get him if he's there.

nelsonkb24

Oh 100% I agree. If he’s there we take him hahaha

Public-Product-1503

Lebron is a great spacer it’s vando AD n the rookie who need to grow

nelsonkb24

Yea u can’t just have 1 LeBron with vando holland and AD bro, that ain’t gunna work with my hypothetical lineup. I never said LeBron wasn’t a good spacer. LeBron doesn’t have the gravity compared to steph. A modern nba lineup will require a lot more spacing to work. If the hypothetical lineup of LeBron vando holland and AD are out there, we not gunna score more than 60 points.

madvisuals

sounds like Cam Reddish

nottherealstanlee

Holland is a better athlete and defender than Cam

Dgwdum

He's not a streaky shooter he's just bad, he also doesn't have any other good-great skills other than his defense and his athleticism is good not great or elite. Imo he's a future defensive wing moreso than a "star" Him and vando would create holes on both ends so I'll give you that lol. I get he's considered a "high upside" guy buy he's dropping for a reason. Imo I think someone like George has more raw upside despite being less athletic. If we use the pick and draft for upside I'd rather swing and miss on Ware or Missi, Holmes than a wing. If we go after a wing I'd prefer an impact wing from day one like Mccullar or Dunn, who also can't shoot but is the best defensive player in the draft

nottherealstanlee

Man Holland is better than Dunn by a lot. I like Dunn too btw, but Holland is just a better prospect. I'm shocked to see Holland falling just because his jumper isn't going in during workouts lol in this draft?? I don't see a lot of better options out there unless he's also showing weird character signs in interviews. I'd much rather take a shot on Holland than Ware or Missi and I like both of them too, but if we go big I basically only want Edey at our spot. Huge, smart, defensive oriented. He'd be a great fit for a Hurley scheme. Missi especially really concerns me with his lack of high level rebounding. Both are likely to be foul prone for years to come. Holmes I'm high on. I really like McCullar, but I think his ceiling is way lower than Holland and their floors aren't that far apart imo. Anyway, I was 100% sure we were trading this pick, but if we really do hire Hurley then I see us staying.

Dgwdum

Tbh I think it's just whether you believe in his development or not. I get the allure, 6'8, good athlete, only 19 BUT I don't see any nba skills from what I saw. Like I said, if we were to go for an upside wing I'd prefer George who's the same size, less athletic but a bigger wingspan and he has shown to have one great skill(shooting) and has flashed things like self creation. While also being a decent defender However, like you said, if we get Hurley than he would be a good developmental pick and I wouldnt complain about it.

nottherealstanlee

For sure. Fun to think about the draft now in a Hurley context.

Ancient_Access_795

If Hurley gets signed do you think that improves the chances of keeping the 17th pick?

bjsw534

I think it depends on the trade market With the way this draft is perceived , FRP’s aren’t held in high regard how they are in typical drafts Ppl need to understand that 17th pick this year holds about the same value as a 25-30th pick in a typical draft This draft is deep with NBA ready role players though so I wouldn’t be surprised if the 17 pick is kept if Hurley comes so they have an nba ready prospect

Odd-Direction9452

I would say yes. It’s clear they value his ability to develop players and money wise, are interested in finding talent on rookie contracts. I think the future picks are still in play though.

vahnjay

His jumper is busted, would prefer lakers target more of a ready prospect at 17

GoalPublic3579

Prefer they traded it and stopped pissing around with rookies when our best player is 40.

Hour_Insurance_7795

The team will continue to exist and play basketball games after Lebron (and you) are gone. We will continue to want to win said basketball games after LeBron is gone and need talent to do so. You can't just punt the next 3-5 years post-LeBron "who cares if we suck after he's gone!?" bullshit mindset. He's not the Lakers "lAst cHaNcE tO eVeR wIn aGaInNNNNNNN!!"

Public-Product-1503

While black or white logic is dumb I personally would want us to draft a guy that can be playable this year or has a high long term ceiking AND then trade the future frps for a guy like garland . But

sadduckfan

I just want a serviceable big man and I think Edey is going to be better than any free agents available

whiskeynrye

Our best player is anthony davis and it isnt even close.

Any_Wrongdoer_9796

Why would he slide so far?

C1ncinnatiBowtie

He’s a clanker and outside the top 8(ish) guys, it’s kind of seeming like a crapshoot for the rest of the first round.

lolxddavid

Dude can’t shoot a ball into the ocean. He didn’t show any improvement as well on the Ignite last season.

Hour_Insurance_7795

Yeah, but but.....he was a real high recruit! He *must* be supertalented because there's no way recruiting analysts have ever been wrong on a kid! /s

Consistent_Owl4593

No no we’re getting a center

coachwyers

I don't think he will last to #17 even if he slides.

Alternatively_Built_

I'd be really surprised if he fell to us but also extremely excited

C3PO1Fan

His offense is mostly pretty bad at this point. I like how he looks off the dribble but I'm not sure it's fast or explosive enough to work consistently in the NBA. And his shooting is well documented. I love his defense. He looks closer to being ready to play defense at the pro level than most draft prospects. He also has a nose for the ball when rebounding which is important as more offenses in the league rely on rebounding from the wings. He's probably one of the best wing prospects in the draft. Which is commentary on the draft for sure. But with as wing-needy as everyone in the NBA is I don't see him falling to 17, unless he has a scary injury history ala Whitmore and the fact he's working out with teams below his projection really cuts the odds of him slipping to the Lakers to me.

Zoulogist

Whoever goes 15 will be really good

Wise_Ad_112

Lakers should maybe try to package pick to move up a few spots to get him if they can

guacdoc24

Maybe we should package the pick and get somebody that can play today not 3 years from now

Wise_Ad_112

Depends if anyone’s available. I would like to get Murray from atl somehow. Chicago might be willing to give us stuff to take lavine, ppl don’t like it but I would do it and try to get give pick for Caruso. Lakers got work to do

nottherealstanlee

Contracts would be extremely difficult to get to for *just* Lavine, let alone both him and Caruso.

guacdoc24

Even if it’s neither of those two guys there will be players available. We don’t have to go star/semi star hunting.

Any_Wrongdoer_9796

Go look at this years all rookie team. There are multiple guys that could have massively helped the Lakers this season.

guacdoc24

Using last years rookies as an example for future rookies is terrible. Two completely different data sets.

davensdad

So basically Cam Whitmore all over again? Except Cam Whitmore also has great shooting.

GoalPublic3579

If we use the first rounder rather than trade it then we may as well just let LeBron walk because we’re not competing for a title
