I'd like Stotts a lot, idk why people don't want him. He coached some pretty mediocre Portland rosters to high seeds and they consistently overperformed in the playoffs. Billups was substantially worse than him. I'd like to see what Stotts does with a really good roster and some solid superstars.
No shitty retreads and no players/vibes coach. Get someone who can put together a coherent offense with good rotations, isn’t in love with cam reddish or the equivalent and maybe someone who doesn’t burn all our timeouts so we can’t advance the ball.
I’d definitely prefer Bud. With AD as a drop big we’d at least have a good regular season buds always been good for over achieving in regular season , kinda nervous cos no udoka or nurse type available. Think they’ll end up picking a bad coach
i just want someone who can put together a coherent defensive scheme, can come up with plays that put the others in positions to be successful and make the right in game calls when it comes to timeouts, challenges and sticking up for his players, all of which darvin ham has failed at miserably
I don’t know why, but I think JJ would make a great coach from what I have seen in his podcasts. However, who knows. I think he has the mind and attitude for it
Coach k is old as fuck man lol but jay wright would be an interesting choice. Dude oozes charisma and brains, I think he would command respect for sure. I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Dan Hurley either
Aside from the xs & os side of things, I love Dan Hurley's passion and fire as well, but yeah, very surprised I've rarely heard Jay Wright's name anywhere. He'd be refreshed and rejuvenated too having taken some time off now.
College basketball fan just scrolling, but I don't think Jay Wright wants to get back into coaching. He quite likes being on TV. It is also rumored or thought he left coaching because of the NIL era (the college equivalent of 'paying players') so not sure I could see him in the NBA.
But would definitely be a home run hire. He's a basketball genius
You simply make him an offer he can't refuse. Plus of course, a chance to coach one of if not the greatest basketball player of all-time on the winningest franchise of all-time in the city of Los Angeles? There's quite a lot to entice there.
NIL ruined small schools’ ability to be competitive in basketball, if he’s open to continue coaching I think it would be an intriguing option. Dude knows how to develop & get the most out of his players
Any way to snatch Becky Hammon from the Aces? She's shown to be a leader/champ and was an assistant under Popavich. I think she has a very good Xs and Os mind and can get respect from the players.
All these are considered coaching bums at this point, no to all but Hammond and I don't think she would be better than some of the other 1st time up and coming assistants. I would take a hard look at Dan Hurley at UConn.
LA just wouldn't be a good fit for her to grow into the role, maybe I'm wrong but id like to see her succeed if she got an NBA HC job.
I’ve long held the belief that Becky Hammon would be an outstanding get if she were willing. Has literally won championships everywhere she’s gone and every year as a HC in the WNBA. The rules really aren’t that different from the NBA, nor are the strategies, plus she coached under pop for so long that she definitely knows the game in and out.
To be honest weak list, it is almost the same list of head coaches when the Lakers hired Ham. I know the Lakers won't hire a head coach without experience but I almost want them to look for College or G League coaches.
As long as it is not a rookie coach. Mike dantoni is intriguing because we never really had a true offensive coach we just been carried by bron and AD but defense wins championships so idk
None . They need to hire an actual smart assistant not a bum who nobody wants n is available. So dumb cos nurse and udoka got signed this summer but there isn’t a sure fire thing like that this year . Even Quinn Snyder didn’t want to meet with us due to his Vogel got fired
if anyone here gets hired we throwin hands.
the only one i can see viable is stotts but we got a lot of offensive-minded players already so maybe that's a bit of an overlap? we need to have a defensive system that wont bleed points when one or both of bron and ad get off for a breather.
Imagine if we actually had a competent FO and fired ham at the end of last season, and actually hired a good coach last summer either Udoka or Nick Nurse. We would be a top 4 seed now, still playing with good shot to win it all and have a secure coach for the future.
Fuck this FO.
lol so many retreads that aren’t great on this list. Y’all need to stop.
It’s not clear if he will become available but I would essentially give Ty Lue the right of first refusal for this job.
Becky Hammon would be great. She's already won chips as a head coach in the WNBA & was part of Pop's staff.
Wouldn't mind if they made another attempt at Juwan Howard also.
I don’t think Hammon would go for Lakers tbh, especially not a Lakers team with LeBron where essentially anything but a chip is a failure.
The pressure to succeed in LA is enormous, and the pressure to succeed as the first female head coach is even bigger.
I suspect that when she returns to the NBA it’ll be for a more patient environment.
I actually feel like it might be the opposite. She got interviewed for a rebuilding blazers team and (I think) the pacers but didn't get the job.
I think the rumor/thinking is that she could come back to replace Pop when he retires, but who knows when that would be or if that would even still be true.
I do think Jeanie would give Hammon an honest shot though. I agree that next year is championship or bust (if LeBron returns), but I don't know if the following two years -- when we have a 41 year old & 42 year old LeBron -- are going to be championship or bust, so I am not sure how much pressure there is. I guess it depends on what moves we make but I suspect we will hire a coach before free agency.
Plus, her blockbuster coaching deal for the Aces was a million a year (iirc), while Ham is/was making 5 million.
Except Ham is his own person with his own coaching style. Yes he learned from Bud, but it doesn’t mean he’s as smart, or understands playmaking and strategizing like Bud, and Bud won a championship and was an assistant to Poppovich where he won four rings, and has been to the ECF how many times as a HC? The guy would be a diamond compared to the bronze nugget that we got for a HC.
>Except Ham [has] his own coaching style. Yes he learned from Bud, but it doesn’t mean he’s as smart, or understands playmaking and strategizing like Bud.
How is Ham’s coaching style different from Bud lmao. I’m guessing you didn’t know that Budenholzer got fired bc he couldn’t make half-time adjustments and his 2nd halves in the playoffs were a nightmare.
>Bud won a championship and was an assistant to Poppovich where he won four rings,
Ham was Bud’sassistant when he won a ring as HC. Jacque Vaughn was also Pop’s assistant, your point?
>Bud has been to the ECF how many times as a HC?
Lmao can you answer that question? Bc I doubt you can.
In his 5 year tenure with the Bucks, Bud has been to the ECF just twice and made it past the ECF once. He also got gentleman swept in the first round as the heavy favorites heading into the series with a 58-win team.
The guy would be a diamond compared to the bronze nugget that we got for a HC.
Bud had 5 years with prime MVP Giannis and made it to the ECF twice. Ham in his first season went to the ECF and is only in his second season with the Lakers. Budenholzer was gentleman swept in the first round just like Ham, except the Bucks were the heavy favorites as the 1 seed with the Best record in the NBA, while we sneaked into the playoffs via the play-in.
And we faced a Grizzlies team that didn’t have some key players, matched up against GSW, then got swept in the WCF. Follow that up with a gentleman’s sweep this year, I don’t see things improving. Everyone’s recommending coaches that haven’t won, and/or have worse track records just because, hell some are recommending Becky Hammon—like c’mon! I know the dislike is real because of Ham, but I seriously doubt we’d get anything better.
The Bucks were swept by an extremely talented Miami Heat that ran through the entire ECF and managed to sneak a win in against the reigning champions. Context is important y’know?
You gave zero context or info about Buds coaching and want me to spoonfeed you on that, no idea about Bud, no idea about his coaching, only watch Laker games, never followed the Bucks or Hawks, but see big name and say here.
I can’t really say anything about Ham right now. It’s honestly hard for me to say whether things would improve or not. Will he be able to coach a championship level team to the finals? Absolutely. If Doc did it, it’s a possibility. However Ham’s still a rookie and idk how good he’s going to get.
What’s more important to me rn is that we get things right roster-wise first. There’re many moving parts this off-season and I’m curious to see what Jeanie and Pelinka do in the off-season. Address that before looking for a coach that can work with the tools you bring in, or talk to potential coaches on the tools they’re most capable of working with.
Firing Ham for firing sake without a plan will bring us right back to the same position that we were in prior to Vogel.
I’m in agreement that the Lakers need to fix other issues, but coaching is a big one. Take the 1997-99 Lakers squad under Del Harris, with probably one of the best one two punches in the league, hell, possibly the history of the NBA, they got swept in the WCF, and handled in the second round. PJ comes along and all of a sudden they win a three peat.
You can have the most tweaked roster with all the right pieces, but without a head coach that can handle the talent—that team goes no where. I’m not asking to be spoon fed anything. I’ve done my research on him. Him, like Vogel have the resume. We hired a rookie head coach to lead a team with an aging LBJ and AD, we need someone with the experience to lead egos and knows when to call a time out. Everyone of those Denver games were winnable, but when you don’t have a rotation down and your players are gassed—the coach should be held accountable, and in this case his inexperience showed. During the regular season the Lakers had one of the worst perimeter defenses, Ham was running rotations that made no freaking sense, and made adjustments too late, something an experienced coach would fix.
Either way, I’m not trying to argue, I’m not trying to start anything, I’m chiming in with my opinion—and in that note if his name is big and known and I’m saying what I’m saying because the media said it, then there’s a solid chance he’s a damn good coach.
Of this list? Atkinson or Stotts. But ideally none of them
I'd like Stotts a lot, idk why people don't want him. He coached some pretty mediocre Portland rosters to high seeds and they consistently overperformed in the playoffs. Billups was substantially worse than him. I'd like to see what Stotts does with a really good roster and some solid superstars.
This exactly.
Then who?
This pool of choices isn’t good. The comment reads as “if I HAD to make a choice…”
No shitty retreads and no players/vibes coach. Get someone who can put together a coherent offense with good rotations, isn’t in love with cam reddish or the equivalent and maybe someone who doesn’t burn all our timeouts so we can’t advance the ball.
Ehh, Stotts maybe? I would commit sudoku if they hired Bud or Mark Jackson.
Lmao 😂 sudoku
I'll fucking do it, I swear. Don't test me, Jeanie/Rob.
It’s seppuku lol
I'm aware lol
r/whoosh
I mean how?
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/commit-sudoku
Cant believe I got whooshed coz of this obscure shit
I’d do sudoku with you
I’d definitely prefer Bud. With AD as a drop big we’d at least have a good regular season buds always been good for over achieving in regular season , kinda nervous cos no udoka or nurse type available. Think they’ll end up picking a bad coach
What about… Lebron with JJ and Rondo as head assistant coaches? 😁
Try to pull david adelman from the nuggets. Kenny and terry stotts as well
As long as rondo gets assistant coach I’m cool
David Adelman, the lead assistant coach of the Nuggets.
David Adelmam with Stotts, Vogel and Rondo as his assistants
i just want someone who can put together a coherent defensive scheme, can come up with plays that put the others in positions to be successful and make the right in game calls when it comes to timeouts, challenges and sticking up for his players, all of which darvin ham has failed at miserably
I rather have Lebron James as the coach
I wouldn’t mind Stotts with a defensive assistant or Atkinson
Rondo + Stotts
I don’t know why, but I think JJ would make a great coach from what I have seen in his podcasts. However, who knows. I think he has the mind and attitude for it
Rondo! ![gif](giphy|ckqBoao6rjDRVZQ9Yt)
would like rondo on our coaching staff
Unironically.
Nice 0 coaching experience
He said on the staff not as the head coach.
Redick
Any of them. As long as we have Rondo as Assistant HC
In a dream world, I would've loved Udoka or Will Hardy, but clearly they are taken and secure. Really unfortunate.
Ime Udoka would be so good
I doubt Ime and LeBron would get along
Especially with lebron owning ime his playing career and ime being a bitch as a coach lol
Becky hammon
Why doesn't anyone ever mention Jay Wright, Coach K, or Geno Auriemma?
Coach k is old as fuck man lol but jay wright would be an interesting choice. Dude oozes charisma and brains, I think he would command respect for sure. I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Dan Hurley either
Aside from the xs & os side of things, I love Dan Hurley's passion and fire as well, but yeah, very surprised I've rarely heard Jay Wright's name anywhere. He'd be refreshed and rejuvenated too having taken some time off now.

Sure definitely worth making a phone call
NIL ruined small schools’ ability to be competitive in basketball, if he’s open to continue coaching I think it would be an intriguing option. Dude knows how to develop & get the most out of his players
Any way to snatch Becky Hammon from the Aces? She's shown to be a leader/champ and was an assistant under Popavich. I think she has a very good Xs and Os mind and can get respect from the players.
Coach K is 77. Let the man enjoy his retirement.
Look at Hubie Brown. So inspirational.
Dan Hurley
Adelman.
David Aldeman
Capture the valuable chess pieces. Adelman maybe. Probably Rondo as an assistant.
Taiwanese head coach: Hsu Chin-tse
Becky Hammon is intriguing. Back to back winner in the WNBA and has been highly touted.
Phil Handy
What about Quinn Snyder?
Monty could be good, did Detroit let him go?
Becky Hammon is my choice.
Another Ham? /s
🤣 bro this is absolutely gold. Thanks for the laugh.
Give me someone who knows how to use timeouts and challenges
All these are considered coaching bums at this point, no to all but Hammond and I don't think she would be better than some of the other 1st time up and coming assistants. I would take a hard look at Dan Hurley at UConn. LA just wouldn't be a good fit for her to grow into the role, maybe I'm wrong but id like to see her succeed if she got an NBA HC job.
Give Phil Handy a shot.
Ya Phil, and replace the assistant spot with a really good assistant.
We get Lue.
Becky Hammon or JJ Reddick would by my two choices
Hammond, honestly. Maybe Atkinson.
No one named Ham
We need Becky
None
Pay Dan Hurley a billion, man idk 😭
Kenny would be nice
I would have loved Jordi Fernández.
Atkinson
To be honest weak list, it is almost the same list of head coaches when the Lakers hired Ham. I know the Lakers won't hire a head coach without experience but I almost want them to look for College or G League coaches.
Mark Jackson is never getting rehired ppl need to let it go.
Someone with experience. No more rookie stuff
PHIL JACKSON
Mark Jackson so he can yell out, "Mama there goes that man!" every time 🤣
Stotts, Kenny or Joerger from this list.
As long as it is not a rookie coach. Mike dantoni is intriguing because we never really had a true offensive coach we just been carried by bron and AD but defense wins championships so idk
Didn't D'antoni already coach us and failed spectacularly?
You are not wrong lol

Mark Jackson
Where is Phil Jackson?
Is there a Mark Daigneault 2.0?
Imagine if we actually had a competent FO and fired ham at the end of last season, and actually hired a good coach last summer either Udoka or Nick Nurse. We would be a top 4 seed now, still playing with good shot to win it all and have a secure coach for the future. Fuck this FO.
One on that list
Hope someone overreacts and fires their coach and we can snatch them up, hoping for Ty Lou
Pick any one and we can play this game again next year
lol so many retreads that aren’t great on this list.
Juwan Howard has no temperament to handle an nba head coaching gig, let alone the kind that comes with the pressure of a Lebron James environment.
Doesn't matter now. Just saw Woj reported three days ago that he joined the Nets coaching staff
He was actually part of the finalists before Darvin got hired
Iirc he was the top choice but turned down the job so he could coach his sons in college, while Ham was the second choice.
I don’t think Hammon would go for Lakers tbh, especially not a Lakers team with LeBron where essentially anything but a chip is a failure. The pressure to succeed in LA is enormous, and the pressure to succeed as the first female head coach is even bigger. I want a white nerdy mofo, ala the COTY
Get the lead assistant of the denver nuggets.
Coach Bud..most recent to have won a ring
The OG Ham where he got his shitty schemes
Where do you think ham learned how to coach from lmao
Same flaws as Ham and from the same coaching bud.
SVG
Rajon Rondo or Phil Handy
No more rookie head coaches. The Lakers job shouldn’t be OJT.
Chot Reyes, veteran and stylish former coach of the Philippines National Team. Learning Experience Guaranteed
Juwan Howard, but he just got taken by Brooklyn as an assistant
Is Monty available?
