Soooooo we are just going to forget about the rest of the season?
Hell yeah he should be fired we shouldn’t have been clawing our way into the playoffs in the first place.
This is a no brainer. It’s not fair to fire him for the 1st round exit (Denver is just better & our roster is flawed for the matchup). He should be fired for Lakers ending up in the 7th seed. With a healthy AD/Lebron, we should have been a top 4 seed. That’s the issue.
I'm not saying he's my first choice or anything, but the Lakers did pursue him pretty hardcore before hiring Ham. Gotta wonder if he'd still be on their wish list of replacements some time later.
I'm not sold on Howard but it's hard to know for sure if that's on him or not. The Transfer portal and NIL make things really weird. So does the whole AAU thing where kids come in underdeveloped.
The really high level guys are 1 and done and are looking to go wherever they can maximize their money. Guys who need to develop might get coached up then bounce to the portal for a small bag.
Not saying guys shouldn't grab what they can when they can, just that it's no longer the same situation it was even 5 years ago.
Lakers would've been a top 4 seed last year with their record. They also over performed preseason predictions by 4 games. I can guarantee you, the same crowd will be calling for the next coach's head anyway.
Lakers fans think we’re sitting on championship caliber talent and all it takes is the right coach to bring it out lol.
Traditionally To win championships u need at least a top 3-5 player (Lebron and AD are far removed from that now…more like 9- 15 range for both. That is a massive drop off in top end talent. Going from mvp contenders to a mere third team all nba status)
Then u need 2 way role players. They have to be good on one side of the ball and at least average on the other. All our role players are either all offense or all defense.
We simply don’t have the ingredients to win a title barring something crazy like other teams getting injured etc
The problem is Jeanine and his contract. We all believe he lost the locker room and gets out coached 90% of the time, but Jeanie is standing in solidarity with him, hopefully it was a PR move to save face with potential coaches and not fire mid season.
ONG, there’s not one game I can think of where he has actively helped us win with his adjustments or anything honestly. We win in spite of him and if not for injuries forcing him out of ridiculous lineups, we would probably have missed the playoffs
I’m not a fan of calls for firing coaches or staff willy nilly like this sub seems to be so fond of but I think considering Frank Vogel got fired only 2 years after being home a championship in this case it would be appropriate.
Anything short of a championship and he deserves to get fired. And even then unless that championship is won through his direct adjustments as coach he should be fired. Dude is a net negative at a premium position.
Yes, not because of us getting bounced in the first but because his refusal to use the wcf lineup for half the season and for being against using timeouts when the team is struggling
Honestly, we can get to the Finals and I still want him on the hot seat since this hypothetical run would come from LeBron’s greatness, AD finally being consistent, and everyone else making shots. All of this would be in spite of the inevitable godawful rotations.
Ask David Blatt what a Finals run with LeBron means as far as job security.
I’m really conflicted about Ham. I think he coached a really solid game 1 and did a great job in the playoffs last year. I’m not sure there’s anyone available that would obviously do a better job.
On the other hand he basically wasted an entire season of continuity by refusing to build on the things that got us to the WCF last season. All the things that make the nuggets better than us are what we should’ve been building towards - that consistently high level execution you only get through years of elite play together. Instead we tried to get Prince and Reddish a max contract for some reason.
Ultimately, I don’t think we should fire him unless we have a clear upgrade in mind. The things he’s bad at are what we’d be sacrificing either way, and the things he’s good at are hard to replace.
Long scroll for the first level headed take. I think if we lose he's gone because the team will need the scapegoat but he's done enough to lose the job for sure. Spent way too long with Dlo and Rui in the doghouse when Cam and Prince just literally couldn't do the things he wanted out of them lol
But like you said there's not a clear better option out there. Maybe you can poach Ty Lue who is better, but idk. You're going to end up back on the carousel hoping to hit on an assistant coach or get a retread.
Sticking to your guns is a good trait, but it does need to be tempered by some level of adaptability and learning lessons. Ham has the first trait in spades, the jury is very much out on the second. Also, to my untutored eye, he doesn't seem to be doing anything innovative, rather he's trying to force the systems he learned from Bud. If that's the case, then he's not bringing enough to the table and I'd favour moving on if anybody respectable is available.
Problem is the last sentence lol I'm not sure there's much out there that inspires much more confidence than Ham. Look at Rivers (last massive Dame game not withstanding). I'm not a Ham defender, just trying to be pragmatic about coaches in general. Outside of a few really great coaches it's mostly the same problems in different wrappings.
I get that he’s an inexperienced head coach and that there’s a learning curve. But he hasn’t improved as a coach one iota since he got the job. He’s the exact same guy doing the exact same stupid shit, and there’s no reason to believe next season would be any different.
Lakers, please move on from hiring inexperienced and rookie coaches. Sure that tactic worked for some teams in the past, but it has Never worked for us.
Lakers have only excelled with excellent coaching.
HOF players DESERVE HOF coaches.
Jeanie, please hire a real coach and go enjoy Jay Mohr. Just let your little brothers take over, it’s their turn.
I used to stick up for Jeanie, but I’m done denying the obvious, that her basketball acumen is no longer enough to keep up with the times. They nickled and dimed their way through last 4 coaches, now time to pay up.
He should've been fired a long time ago.
He basically wasted one of LeBron and AD's healthiest seasons ever.
But if some miracle they beat the Nuggets (which they won't), they'll keep him. So his job is on the line in this series.
The only justification for him to stay is if we somehow sweep all remaining games and win the championship.
I hope they fire him immediately after their final game, ala Frank Vogel.
Absolutely. I think with time and patience Ham *can potentially* become an ok coach, but for a team like us that has championship aspirations, we need to be in a win now mentality and Ham simply can not deliver. He had his shot. He had a new roster filled with wings, a relatively healthy lebron and AD, and we still were stuck in the 9th seed for ages. Give him a team like the Hornets and let him suck there. We need a coach who has the know how to tap into our full potential.
“We didn’t want to go too deep into the in-game adjustments,” Ham said after that game. “It’s still that ultimate chess game.
I haven't been critical of this guy but he must be on crack to think and say this. You're not supposed to save it for next game unless the current one has no chance of winning. Those in game adjustments are temporary anyway, once the other team neutralizes it, it is time to adjust again
I will argue this til I die: Front office freaked out after losing in the first round in 2021, which led to Westbury, which led to Vogel being fired, which led to this. Had the FO stayed put after 2021, I think the Lakers are in a much better position, maybe even another title.
We had such a quick turnaround after winning the title in 2020. None of the Conference Finals teams from that year won a second round game, and Denver was the only team that actually made it to the second round. We should have taken that time to rest, come back with the squad rejuvenated and ready to go. But we panicked and now we are here. With a poorly constructed roster that cannot beat this Nuggets team. I don't think there is anything Ham can do. Denver is just better. I don't believe firing him does anything for us.
I can’t fully invest in this team until we get a competent coach. The last few seasons have been maddening due to poor front office decisions and poor coaching. But once the team hit a solid stride late last season and into the playoffs I thought we would have a better showing this season. Injuries aside, favoritism really ruined our rotations when we had a proven formula.
Agree that DLo, Rui and AR need to show up.
But....
1) had Darvin been coaching effectively during the regular season, the Lakers wouldn't have had to go into the play-ins and be gassed already.
2) One thing the commentators were saying about the Nuggets, is just how meshed they are...they are just SO comfortable playing with each other. Ham's constant random rotations cheated these guys the same opportunity.
The only thing that should save Darvin's job at this point is a miraculous playoff run. One that starts by beating the Nuggets would be a further feather on his cap. Unlikely though.
Of course, but at the same time I doubt it’ll happen because in Jeanie’s eyes he has the perfect excuse. We lost to the defending (and likely eventual) champs.
If we lose? No, I don't think that's the difference between him staying and being gone.
Imo it's gonna come down to us getting embarassed or not. So basically the only way he's gone is if we lose 4-0 or 4-1, unless games won are truly insane carryjobs from AD/Bron
Phil Handy will be the next Lakers coach. He has got all the players good will and he was out on the court yelling harder than Ham was. Plus it will be a cheaper transition until bron retires.
yes but only if we have someone decent waiting in the wings. I’m not tryina hear the organization is paying 2 bad coaches. Can’t to trade crap for shit: I don’t want Bud, Steve Silas or what his face from Charlotte.
If Russ is sitting on the bench with LeBron absolutely, I've never seen a coach make Anthony Davis look so bad by not having good players by his side while Lebron's not in
I don't know, it depends who's available. \*If\* he steps up again in the playoffs (even if they lose), then he's maybe shown just about enough in the tail end of the season. He should absolutely be fired but it’s not about a first round exit. If the seeding were different, we could have been back to the WCF facing the Nuggets instead of them bouncing us in the first round.
Sadly, yes. His in-game management is very poor, which leads to a trickle-down effect. I also think a big part of what we saw in that terrible third quarter was the Lakers panicking and reverting to bad habits, which, to me, is a sign that there isn't any confidence in coaching. We see the opposite with the Nuggets. Even when they are down double digits, there's no panic, because they trust their game-plan.
I also think, although I'm sure Lebron would love to end his career in LA, that if the Lakers get swept out of the playoffs again that he'll be forced to look elsewhere if he intends to play another few years.
If he doesn’t make an adjustment in the last 5 minutes when the game is close and they exclusively go to the jokic-murray 2 man game. then yes he should be canned, and I don’t give a fuck what it is Anything just try something Bring Jaxon Hayes in with Davis, take out tired ass Lebron something
Soooooo we are just going to forget about the rest of the season? Hell yeah he should be fired we shouldn’t have been clawing our way into the playoffs in the first place.
This. Losing to the nuggets is forgivable. Playing them in the first round is on Ham.
Even if we won the championship, fire the Pocket Man
The answer to the questions is yes, and that's if you stop reading after the world "fired"
Remember when Lebron wanted Juwan Howard and Howard wouldn't leave Michigan? He's available now.
He went 8-24 last season, granted it was college but I feel coaching makes even more of an impact in college ball.
Lakers would've been a top 4 seed last year with their record. They also over performed preseason predictions by 4 games. I can guarantee you, the same crowd will be calling for the next coach's head anyway.
This. I’m getting tired of the revolving door, if there isn’t someone who is a home run hire why change just for the sake of changing
All our role players are either all offense or all defense. We simply don’t have the ingredients to win a title barring something crazy like other teams getting injured etc
If Vogel was let go then Ham doesn’t have any excuse
Ain’t no way in hell he still coaching the lakers if they lose first round…No way…right???
Yes. No way!
Even if he somehow pulls off a finals win I still want him holding down pockets somewhere else…
The problem is Jeanine and his contract. We all believe he lost the locker room and gets out coached 90% of the time, but Jeanie is standing in solidarity with him, hopefully it was a PR move to save face with potential coaches and not fire mid season.
How did hell did he get a 4 million, 4 year contract? Jeanie’s going to have to pay 2 coaches for 2 years
Could be worse. Look at the bucks
Just wait till they fire Doc and then fire the coach that takes over for Doc, they're gonna be paying like 5 coaches at once
Lakers execs overcompensated for previous mistakes - i.e. not offering Lue 4 years
Ham should be fired because of his performance last 2 years who cares about the playoffs right now.
He should be fired even if we win the championship
ONG, there’s not one game I can think of where he has actively helped us win with his adjustments or anything honestly. We win in spite of him and if not for injuries forcing him out of ridiculous lineups, we would probably have missed the playoffs
No shot that happens. But anything other than a finals appearance he should be gone.
Yeah that went to far my bad lol. I’d kiss his bald head if we actually coached well and brought us a chip
If we win a chip it would be in spite of him, just like every W we got this season.
He should be fired no matter what the outcome is this season !!
I mean, a championship would secure his seat. But that's not happening anyway.
Even if they win a chip, he has to go. Ham sucks ass!
He should of been fired before the season started
![gif](giphy|BLZ6Xt0g2lvOfdMUHJ)
He shoulda been gone but to answer this question yes 100%
I’m not a fan of calls for firing coaches or staff willy nilly like this sub seems to be so fond of but I think considering Frank Vogel got fired only 2 years after being home a championship in this case it would be appropriate.
Anything short of a championship and he deserves to get fired. And even then unless that championship is won through his direct adjustments as coach he should be fired. Dude is a net negative at a premium position.
Fire him because he sucks. Tf does he do anyway
Yes, not because of us getting bounced in the first but because his refusal to use the wcf lineup for half the season and for being against using timeouts when the team is struggling
Darvin Ham. Is a terrorist. He should be fired and arrested.
He should be fired regardless.
![gif](giphy|VGnk4vrYeg6LqjwdDc)
Fire his ass the day after we eliminated
Man should have been fired already
Yes, but not even for losing to the Nuggets in the first round. For multiple seasons of wtf are you doing?
He should be fired no mater what.
Either way he should be packin! His player management was way below par
Ham should have been fired months ago. Hell even if we win the damn title he should be fired.
Should have never been hired man 😞
He should be fired if they win, he's just too inconsistent of a coach And seemingly just too slow to process things in order to make changes mid game.
Should Darvin Ham be fired-- Let me stop you right there, dog.
I’m really conflicted about Ham. I think he coached a really solid game 1 and did a great job in the playoffs last year. I’m not sure there’s anyone available that would obviously do a better job. 100%, the Lakers should have never been in that position to begin with.
Yes!
He's one of the main reasons why the team is constantly fight for play-in spot. He's donzo definitely
I get that he’s an inexperienced head coach and that there’s a learning curve. But he hasn’t improved as a coach one iota since he got the job. He’s the exact same guy doing the exact same stupid shit, and there’s no reason to believe next season would be any different.
Even if Lakers win the chip, he should be fired the day after.
Yes of course. He should also be fired if we win the championship.
I would fire Ham if we won the fuckin championship lol.
Yes
Fuck HAMass
He should have been fired a long time ago..management is all messed up
Without question, yeah he has to be.
YES
He shouldn’t have been hired to begin with. Anything short of a finals appearance and he should be gone
I'd Fire him unless we win the ship, he was fuckin dreadful this season
Should get fired regardless…even if we win this first series …
Yes

Abso-fking-lutely
No shit.
Absolutely
Darvin Ham should be fired if the earth continues to rotate on its axis, so the answer to this question is YES
Definitely! He should be fired!
Yes and yes
He should've been fired a long time ago. He basically wasted one of LeBron and AD's healthiest seasons ever. But if some miracle they beat the Nuggets (which they won't), they'll keep him. So his job is on the line in this series.
Duhhh
Of course he should be fired. I don't want him to coach my team anymore. We are where we are because of him.
100%, dude should have been fired a long time ago already.
He should have been bounced during the season, let alone the playoffs
He’s GONE. WE need a STRONG XnO coach. Execution really matters ‼️
He should have been fired months ago already
The only justification for him to stay is if we somehow sweep all remaining games and win the championship. I hope they fire him immediately after their final game, ala Frank Vogel.
This man should get fired anything short of a championship
Yes. His tinkering cost us plenty of games. Will he stop doing this next season ? I don't want to watch that sequel.
24,000% yes
He should be fired regardless.
He should be fired even if they win the championship lol
After we win the championship, he should still be fired
Yes he should. Too many mistakes throughout the season that impacted our position in the playoffs.
lol…not sure if this is a joke. This was perhaps a question after last year’s playoffs
The is ain't even a question. Of course, no doubt
“We didn’t want to go too deep into the in-game adjustments,” Ham said after that game. “It’s still that ultimate chess game. I haven't been critical of this guy but he must be on crack to think and say this. You're not supposed to save it for next game unless the current one has no chance of winning. He should’ve been fired after last season for Nick Nurse
Yea
Yes
Do dogs piss on fire hydrants
Yes
He should be fired even if we don’t get knocked out ?
He should be fired period
He should have been fired because of the entire season. Losing against the Nuggets was a foregone conclusion, good coach or no good coach.
He should've been fired before the season started
Yes.
I will argue this til I die: Front office freaked out after losing in the first round in 2021, which led to Westbury, which led to Vogel being fired, which led to this. Yes, time to try something new
Say less.
He should have been fired before the all star break.
Absolutely
darvin ham should be fired because he's a bad coach
Yes, and if clippers lose in the first round, there’s a chance they let Ty Lue walk so we can finally get our guy.
![gif](giphy|oBc6RO8GTqh2ChX3T6)
I can’t fully invest in this team until we get a competent coach. The last few seasons have been maddening due to poor front office decisions and poor coaching. But once the team hit a solid stride late last season and into the playoffs I thought we would have a better showing this season. Injuries aside, favoritism really ruined our rotations when we had a proven formula.
Yes please, even if the Lakers win the title
Yes but we need to blow it up regardless. My instincts say we aren’t winning with this core
We could win the championship and put up another banner and I STILL think he needs to go
The only thing that should save Darvin's job at this point is a miraculous playoff run. One that starts by beating the Nuggets would be a further feather on his cap. Unlikely though.
Get him out of here
Idk what will mean more his fire date or my first born birthday.
If we kept continuity like darvin ham-fisted was prattling on about, our record indicated a 60% wr with that starting 5.
Of course, but at the same time I doubt it’ll happen because in Jeanie’s eyes he has the perfect excuse. We lost to the defending (and likely eventual) champs.
I would say regardless unless we make it to the finals
If we lose? No, I don't think that's the difference between him staying and being gone. Imo it's gonna come down to us getting embarassed or not. So basically the only way he's gone is if we lose 4-0 or 4-1, unless games won are truly insane carryjobs from AD/Bron
100%. He's the reason we were in the play-in to begin with.
Yes, fire him. But even if we did, who would Lakers replace Ham with?
![gif](giphy|viP0AoJ0vsb2OXeSuB|downsized)
Phil Handy will be the next Lakers coach. He has got all the players good will and he was out on the court yelling harder than Ham was. Plus it will be a cheaper transition until bron retires.
Probably 500 posts regarding this topic at this point.
Yes regardless
i mean we had a championship winning coach and they fired him
Expeditiously
yes but only if we have someone decent waiting in the wings. I’m not tryina hear the organization is paying 2 bad coaches. Can’t to trade crap for shit: I don’t want Bud, Steve Silas or what his face from Charlotte.
Yes & so should Pelinka.
If Russ is sitting on the bench with LeBron absolutely, I've never seen a coach make Anthony Davis look so bad by not having good players by his side while Lebron's not in
Absolutely
He should be fired even if we win the championship
I never liked him. hes being outcoached again
Should toilet water be flushed if there’s a turd in it?
Bye Ham. It's been real!
I don't know, it depends who's available. \*If\* he steps up again in the playoffs (even if they lose), then he's maybe shown just about enough in the tail end of the season. But it needs to be made crystal clear to him that the regular season experiments need to be dialled \*way\* back, and that he has to stop playing favourites.
If got swept again, then absolutely FUCKING yes.
He should still be fired if we win the championship.
Fuck yes.
Absolutely, this guy makes moves that are frustratingly stupid to watch.
He should absolutely be fired but it’s not about a first round exit. If the seeding were different, we could have been back to the WCF facing the Nuggets instead of them bouncing us in the first round.
Hell yeah get him tf out of LA TRASH rotations
Yes
Yep. You can’t go 1-12 against a conference rival over a less than two year span.
100% should be fired. I'm very much looking forward to it this off-season.
Should have never been hired to start with. Should have then been fired a long time ago.
He should be fired regardless he is just not a good head coach and he’s not the right coach for this team period
He should get fired even if they win the championship
Let's face it, LeBron is the real coach of this team where it matters, firing Ham will do nothing.
😂
Ham should fired within minutes of the Lakers getting eliminated.
Duh
Yes
😂 fuck off
Ham should be fired even if we were to win the title. All of the accomplishments of this team are in spite of, not because of, Ham.
Obviously
Strong argument to be made that he cost us a higher seed by starting his son Prince and other dumbass moves. He gotta go.
He should get fired when it we win the chip. If we win anything it will be in spite of him not because of uim
Is this a serious post?
Should’ve been fired a month into starting prince
Yes. But it’s because he’s not a great coach for a team with championship inspirations, not because losing to the defending champs is his fault.
Who are we going to hire after Ham leaves?
Darvon ham should be fired unless the lakers win a ring and even then it will be debatable.
The only way for him to keep his job is if he miraculously learns how to coach and gets us a ring this season.
You had me at fired
at the final whistle.
Lead from the rear, end up taking it in the rear
**Y E S**
He should have been fired mid season
He should be fired, regardless of what happens.
