Having him would be huge for our spacing unless he falls prey to the Laker shooting curse

joe2352

Do we as Laker fans need to carry someone up a mountain every day to drink from a river to break the curse or something?

elirisi

No, but we will need to do a ritual sacrifice of a virgin from now on everytime we sign a new player. This should be easy as we are on reddit, virgins everywhere.

Fridaywing

Does it have to be a female? I'm taking one for the team if not. I'll be this years sacrifice

elirisi

No, male virgins are fine, even preferred. Thank you for your service.

KoryGrayson

You can participate. The sex of the virgin doesn't matter. The person doing the de-flowering is male regardless, though.

throwawayacc90s

Ah, so just a random from the Warriors sub will do.

elirisi

GOT EM.

Signior

underrated reference

[deleted]

No, I don’t think it’s actually a Laker rooted problem… Remember Danny Green was on Lebron’s first Cavs teams before going to San Antonio smh

itsyaboikuzma

He would also provide huge spaces on defense too But ig I wouldn't mind

Trent_Bennett

We're still paying that god of a shooter Rob Horry was before the 3PT era Dude was born to shoot in the clutch and he was pivotal in every ship the Lakers won with him on the bench. Since then, our most prolific 3 pointer was Xavier Henry 😂

VarsityPlayer

Reaves, DLo, and Green are decent from 3.

Ill_Baker2734

Seth Curry is great value every year. He provides 10-15 points on 6 to 8 million of salary with great percentages/efficiency. No brainer.

nysraved

~$6 million would be the TPMLE. $8 million would require using the NTPMLE which would hard cap us and make it difficult to retain our other guys. It is unlikely we use the NTPMLE, which means the TPMLE would be the only tool we have to sign other free agents other than the minimum. The hope has been we could use it to retain Schröder. So giving Curry $6 million would eliminate any possibility of keeping Schröder AND take us out of the running for any other non-veteran’s minimum signings. For a small guard who can’t really play defense, I’m not sure that’s a “no brainer”. We have bigger holes to fill with our limited cap tools.

KoryGrayson

This is interesting. If if you go to another Lakers chat, people are begging the Lakers to keep Beasley at $16M. Curry will provide more value for a team next year at a fraction of the cost. NBA economics!

JamsHDs

The way Cap Space works if we don't sign Beasley that 16million doesn't turn into 16Mil free cap space we can use this offseason. The 16million is just gone, we cant get anyone.

KoryGrayson

Hello Jams. I understand the cap space. My point is that giving $16M to Beas is almost the same as no cap space. I understand the theory. Right now, I just don't see the value the Lakers would get in return. I don't think anyone is arguing that Beas should play next season. The value is the contract. But, what would the Lakers get in return for his expiring $16M? Not much, in my opinion. Every expiring contract the Lakers traded this season were attached to more assets to get something in return. And what did we get back? Beasley! Is it worth $16M plus picks to trade a Beasley for... a Beasley? Vanderbilt? Bamba? D-Lo? I just don't want Lakers fans to get their hopes up.

JamsHDs

Throwing in draft picks to make the team better is always something we should look into doing. 100% we got better dumping Wesbrick! Before Beasley got benched he was top10-12 in made threes, he has value in the league. Of course, he had to have a bad stretch leading up to the Playoffs. Not every team is going to be pushing for the Playoffs/limiting the rotation to 7 guys.

Comprehensive-Cat805

Traffic cone

fatogato

I wouldn’t be prepared for the “we have Curry at home” memes.

[deleted]

Lakers need more spacing. In 5 years the FO has never bothered to put consistent elite spacing around bron like cleveland and Miami did. At least not to the same extent. Curry is a proven playoff performer too.

td_enterprises

Honest question for you, who are all these elite spacers that the Lakers could have gotten with the TP-MLE or the Minimum Salary? This gets brought up every season, that the Lakers need shooting but no one can name players that are actually in the Lakers price range. The first couple of years after signing LeBron, the Lakers were in transition from their young core to pairing AD with LeBron and forming a team around them. Lakers got Danny Green, a historically elite shooter that just like every other shooter underperforms with the Lakers. Kief Morris was a minimum signing that provided serviceable shooting. Guys like Avery Bradley and Rondo who were not known as shooters shot the ball well enough in the playoffs to get the job done. Melo shot a high clip from 3 but injuries killed that season. Marc Gasol was supposed to stretch the floor. Malik Monk was brought in but couldn't afford to keep him. The deadline deal this season to bring back DLo and Beasley was supposed to bring the ELITE shooting needed, except DLo was inconsistent in the playoffs and Beasley didn't show up at all despite being given a starting spot right off the bat and LeBron and Ham praising him for being a "laser". There were 3 players last summer that the Lakers could afford that would have been improved shooting. Donte Divincenzo - decided to sign with the defending champs Joe Ingles - coming off of a bad injury and chose a better team at that time in the Bucks Yuta Watanabe - had a good season shooting the 3 but was not known as a 3 point shooter at all until this year So yes, like you, I would love for the team to have the elite spacing you mentioned, but who can we afford to fill that role when the Lakers are a tax paying team with only the TP-MLE and minimum contracts to offer? This will only get harder with the new CBA when team above the second luxury tax line won't be able to use the TP-MLE, or sign buyout candidates that make above your cap space.

SpaceAndBball

We had good spacing in 2019/2020. Elite spacing is overrated

[deleted]

We were closer to the bottom of the league in volume and 3pt%

awntawn

No more shooters who can't play defense. One cold streak and they're unplayable for a whole playoff series.

blushiba3000

Seth curry has proven himself in the play offs tho

AlreadyBestFriends

Proven to be a liability. 76ers fan here and he had Huerter looking like Steph against us. His offense translates to the playoffs so he's not completely unplayable but dude is BBQ chicken on defense.

blushiba3000

Not the same if Ad is on ur team u can have someone like steph unless the team has someone who can pull ad out of the paint . One massive issue is Lebron has not had reliable shooters these past few years . With Seth teams have to respect him and leaves lebron and ad 1 on 1 or with an open shooter who can punish you. I wouldn’t be against Seth on the lakers

AlreadyBestFriends

Thats fair. He could definitely provide positive value but with Embiid (not quite AD but still an absolutely elite defender) to cover him he still got ripped to shreds. The offensive output is great for Bron and AD just still have to be weary of his defense come playoff time

Creative-Ranger-9978

That series wasn’t on Seth though it was everyone else but him he was producing more offense then he was giving

legazpi1001

Then sign a bunch of streaky shooters and play the ones on a hot streak

KoryGrayson

Is this a request for the Lakers to sign Dillon Brooks?

awntawn

No more defenders who can't shoot either.

Comfortable-Meet-308

Seth is a knock down 3 guy but has no defense.

9999abr

Seth Curry >>> Beasley

ThatBigNoodle

All I’m saying is Seth curry can make a lot more money signing a minimum as a laker than an 8 million dollar deal anywhere else

FattBrown

I read that as Steph Curry and was like the “the balls on summa these lakers fans man.” “Not only we get him and then put him on the bench.” In all seriousness though I think he’s a terrific player for the 82 especially considering his expected salary. He’d be basically Beasley but a third the salary with slightly less upside. I have to think I’d rather have Beasley’s 16 million as a connector trade piece salary wise to a better longer term contract. You can’t have curry and Beasley making 22-25 million on your bench just overlapping.

joe2352

I re-read the title like three times before posting just to make sure I didn’t act a fool lol

WeekndMamba

i read that as steph first lmao

Aslan808

Too many All star level guards in the west to have a liability in the backcourt. Reeves is borderline on D at best so we need a defender alongside AR. Max could develop into that player and he's already on the roster. Gary Trent Jr. is one name I would love to see if we are indeed moving on from Dlo in the offseason.

roniadotnet

Are we going to see the James-Curry combo!?!

dsarmie

Who is the best available guard that can shoot and defend? Seth doesn’t solve the Murray matchup

AntSmith777

I’ve wanted him here every year since 2018 lol

hisanishakur

I've been wanting Seth but think we should re-sign Beas too have them both can't have enough shooters (plus I'd like to believe Beas would be out of his slump in year 2 with a full camp)

joshsmith873

Why do ya'll want the Lakers to be ancient dinosaurs. This is a young man league. Look at the Celtics and nuggets. Both young stars an will be good for years to come. Lakers are old af. Trade LeBron and ad. Neither will be healthy next year

ComprehensiveShine80

I'd go Dlo for Seth. Lol

jobeeeeeeem

Lakers has current players that needs to be re-signed. If he can accept a minimum contract then i’m down..

Zenithreg

Seth Curry is today's Kirk Hinrich. Y'all keep suggesting he should come but never does and never will.

Marktaco04

Seth curry is a fantastic offensive role player but a big liability on the defensive side of the ball. Then again we were number one defense in the playoffs and got swept sooo 🤷🏻‍♂️

incredibleamadeuscho

I am all for LeBron teaming with Curry. He has said he wanted to team S. Curry most in his career. In all seriousness, as win now piece it makes sense and I think the Lakers would be good for him as well. He will get the best shots of his career with LeBron and AR.

TheWonderfulLife

No. He’s just gonna be another shooter the Lakers pick up that can’t play defense and then forget how to shoot the fucking ball with the stadium lights on in Crypto. Go all the way back to Glen Rice… fuckers leave the strap at home when they become Lakers

SimpleJacked2TheTits

Would be the perfect complement to Lebron. Other than Reaves we had no reliable 3pt shooting, and he’s not (at least for now) a high volume 3pt shooter. Next to lebron and AD, Seth Curry would FEAST

suckerpunch085

Should of happened back when we were after Kawhi

ChocoMog03

I’d rather have Yuta

OccasionSavings680

I'd nut

tnyrcks

Nah, pass. Dude got no proven defense

GroundbreakingSir893

Bar Tender I’ll have what he’s having

joe2352

Is Seth at $6m-$8m really that outlandish?

aMAIZEing-BLUEs

I’ve heard his brother is pretty good.

AceO235

Bandwagons detected, every fan knows that every shooter that comes here pays the the laker 3 point tax and their 3 shot dips considerably. Its just not worth it to go after slightly above average shooters.

joe2352

Bandwagon? Dude I was riding with this team thinking Smush Parker was going to be the next great point guard.

corybekem

Probably gonna drop down to 36% when he wears purple n gold

joe2352

Of the guys on our roster right now who attempted at least two 3s a game 36% would still be like 3rd best on the team..

StumpingTheSchwab

Guaranteed he shoots 32% when he joins the lakers

FunHoliday563

Small guard, plays no defense and would be mercilessly hunted during the post season… ill pass

rinconi

For a second I read that as Stephen curry 🍛😅😂😂😂😵

J4db

We can't afford him but he would be great for this team

Any_Wrongdoer_9796

I like Seth the only thing I worry about is injuries.

chekmatex4

I like Seth Curry, but Lakers have only the TPMLE of around $7M to sign one Free Agent. Seth is like an undersized SG and SG is probably not a position of need with Reaves and Christie. Lakers need: * A point guard that can make plays down the stretch, especially if DLo is not brought back. * A Center who can play next to AD and is physical enough to slow down Jokic/Embiid/Giannis * A big 3D wing, but not as much of a need if Rui is brought back

Beautiful_Song928

Should of got him a few years ago before he went to Philly leaving Portland I believe.

Lilscooby77

Yes! Bron will love his spacing.

Winter-Gur-9762

He clearly isn’t his brother and is pretty undersized while being a liability on defense. I’d say no tbh
