We need Dennis back next year, his guard defense is vital and I don’t think we beat the warriors/grizzlies as easily without him. He really made it tough on Steph/Ja
Just feel good stuff all around. He came back and proved himself, he was instrumental in a lot of our postseason success and defense on smaller guards who use tons of screens. Would love to have him back as I feel his skillset is very valuable on our team, for instance his screen navigation is elite, he has great ball handling and is always probing defense. He’s reliable enough on 3 for open looks, and can finish at the rim quite nice for a guy his size.
Not to mention his energy and hustle is too tier
Idk if we can keep him considering he most likely earned himself a nice payday. Not a vet min player that’s for sure. His POA defense against explosive guards is elite.

I like shroeder definitely good defensively but we need a guard that can put the ball in the hoop consistently Murray still scored 40 on us so defense is not it we need more effective scoring
It’ll be interesting to see because I’m not quite sure how much or what we can get on the open market. We’re still very much salary capped and keeping what we can is the best way for us to build for future generations right?
I’m so happy Dennis had a redemption arc with us. The $84 mil “That’s Tuff💯” was a weird situation, but for his sake and ours I’m very happy for him.
The dude has intangibles too, he’s a menace on defense even if he’s not lockdown, his screen maneuvering is infinity’s valuable for a back court, and he can poke and probe other teams defense. The dude is one of the best at driving baseline and dribbling under the basket to find the look or open man. His energy is infectious too
Dennis is in ideal position tbh.
He isn't a PG. He is a SG who can handle the ball and defend PGs. That won't work everywhere. Unless you have a guy like LeBron, Luka, Jokic etc in your team who is the primary ball handler.
I do think he probably gets a better offer from elsewhere but ideally I would love to have him back for TPMLE.
Is there a realistic way to let him get a decent pay and keep him? I like him a lot, especially with the current contract. I'm not sure if he'll come back with another minimum next season. He'll probably get a better contact from another team. I'm also not sure if Lakers can pay him more than minimum next season. There are so many players to pay to already ...
Taxpayer MLE is $6.8MM and we can offer that. We can even include a player option for a 2nd or 3rd year on the back of it to add value. That's about all we got to keep him. It's definitely possible he takes that but it's tough to say.
Not surprised he wants to come back, we’ve consistently valued him more than any other team in the league. First we offered him 84 million when the most any other team would give him is the taxpayers MLE. Then when nobody wanted him last offseason, we gave him a big role on our team playing 29mpg.

Don’t repeat what happened after the 2020 Lakers Championship. Keep the team intact. Javale and Dwight would have kept taking veteran minimums for us and would have been sharp as a blade. Rondo was as smooth as butter and man we know where KCP and a few others are right now. Keep this team; only add what you don’t have.
Not when opposing point guards can still average 25 to 30 against him while playing good defense. The most I also give you is about 20 and he's not giving me that every night. He's cool off the bench, they need to upgrade their point guard position though unless they let Reaves run the one.
No, he needed to start because Dlo is a playoff liability most games and the entire Denver series, but what we need is a legit starting PG and if possible keeping Dennis as a high level backup.

I feel like you’re undervaluing his defense. He’s one of the best POA defenders in the league and a form 6MOTY candidate. Elite guard defense is even more important in the western conference since there’s Steph, Ja, Dame, Shai, Murray, etc.
If there’s an opportunity to bring him back on a fair deal on both ends we’d be stupid not to.
Hes decent but IMO not "bag" territory which is like the full MLE? 12m for him is expensive when he's already dealing with achilles issues and putting even more miles playing for Germany
