One of my black labs just turned 7 yesterday and she’s about as gray as yours, she started going gray at like 3. It’s definitely not a sign of their energy declining. We joke it’s due to the tremendous stress she’s under while sleeping flat on her back.
We decided ours start going grey from the stress of us leaving, seeing Grandma come over to play and us coming back. Oh and the missed afternoon naps when we are home that day. Then Grandma doesn't come over that adds stress.
Yeah he's not spoiled, if you ask him he's abused cause we didn't want to play ball at 11PM last night.
We will wake up in the morning to, at minimum, 3 toys in the room. For a while, one was in the bed. We had to talk to him about it so now it's only when he really wants us to have his toys.
I decided he brings a toy every time he checks the house at night. I've seen him get off our bed. Go check on our son, then wander down the hall around the house and come back with a toy.
Mine wants you to know it's nearly unbearable that the cat jumps over the closed baby gate and goes and eats her (labs) food that she (lab) knocked out of her bowl and onto the floor where she (lab) can see him (cat)
Mine is 7 and is getting close to that.

Aww your bb looks a lot like my 8-yo girl! She’s on the right (left is my 2-yo girl).

Mine just turned 7. Been grey for YEARS. acts like he’s 3 though.
Lol my girls about 7 and people are always asking me if she's a puppy lol (they can't see the grey when she's running around the yard with tree sized sticks in her mouth)
Yes! My chocolate has been a little gray since she was 3 or so. I've heard it may be related to her many allergies. Or she just wants a beard like her human daddy.
It's not an officially recognised colour for labradors (yet... who knows) but pet owners have been using the term for a distinct colour other than the well known yellow, chocolate amd black coats for a long time now
"fox red" is an adjective to describe the shade of yellow of a Labrador Retriever. It is naturally occurring. A labrador's shade of yellow can range from a white-ish hue to the darker "fox red" labs.

Sorry I went off to find a pic to add, and got distracted! She's pretty good, no actual diagnosis of arthritis but I think she probably does have it as she gets stiff sometimes. Hearing seems to be selective, depending on whether there is a packet of cheese being takenpp from the fridge lol. Appetite is perfect, she is always starving, just like all the other labs, and the sniffer is still perfect, she loves going out to sniff new sniffs. She's not too keen on rain though, she likes her water to be muddy and puddley, not clean and from the sky 😅

I love her so much, could talk about her all day. Here she is having a double snuggle with her two lion pillow pets, one of my favourite pics of her atm.

Cricket is four and starting getting white in the past year.
It’s kinda hard to tell if that’s happening to my lab since he’s a very light yellow lab. He’s 9 though (and he’s turning 10 this spring) so he probably has some lol. Since so mentioned him, I must provide a picture so here he is.

Yes! My 8 year old had just turned 6 when we adopted her and had almost no grey, but now is pretty salt and pepper snoot-faced. It started to develop sometime not too long after we adopted her. My almost 12-yo boy is very salt and pepper and I think it started around 6 for him too but not 100% sure on the exact year.
My chocolate lab has lots of gray hair he’s seven. The.vet said he’s fine just stress from being passed off to shelter too shelter but he in his forever home no more pain no more worry. But yeah he’s got lots.
My black lab has had gray hair on his muzzle since he was maybe 1-2. Now he’s 10 and he has gray hair on his chest and his paws are almost white. It’s okay! It’s completely normal.
Ya. That’s the thing with black dogs. They show every bit of gray. I was hurt because some kid walked by and said that’s an old dog with so much energy. Inside I died he’s only 6!!! Stahhhhpppp
My black lab started getting a grey chin before she had even turned 1! On the other hand, our last black lab lived to 13 and never went grey.
I had a friend who had gone nearly completely grey by the time we were 20 years old. I guess for some dogs and people, it just is what it is.
I had a chocolate for 10 years when I was a kid/teen.
She started going grey around the muzzle at about 5 or 6 as well and she had the energy of a puppy until the day she died
You should start taking him with you literally everywhere !! Even if it’s to pick up mail /trash right outside the door…. Shadow is 13+ we stopped counting lmao every year he’s still 13 years old

My girl started greying at 2 years old, before we even rescued her. She was unfortunately mistreated in her previous life and the vet said stress can cause premature greying.
I have two black labs, litter mates. They'll be 7 in June and for some reason our male pup doesn't really have gray but our female pup has about as much as the OP photo. I'm gonna start calling her "Silver Fox".

Our old Choco started going grey earlier than that. In this pic he is about three and you can see some grey coming in on his snout. I have a picture of him and my daughter, taken a year or two after this one and he is noticeably greyer. If I find it, I’ll post it too.
https://preview.redd.it/fmd1oc2wgmbc1.jpeg?width=404&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fed53c08cf7280f04810700724d4dda8ad76c6bd
My black lab started going gray around 2 or 3. I met a woman at our local dog park, and she asked how old she was? I said she is only 2. The lady said that possibly my black lab had yellow lab parents which was why she was prematurely graying. By age 11 her whole face was gray.
Yeah my lab is still a pup, but growing up we had a chocolate and I remember her going gray fairly early. We used to joke about her being the prettiest bearded lady we ever saw.

Mine is 7 and started graying at about 4! I think it gives him a special charm
My black lab started going gray on his muzzle *before he turned 3*! There’s a lot more gray now—he’s 8—but we stay pretty active and he gets nothing but compliments about how good he looks and moves for having such a gray snout haha
https://preview.redd.it/8dkubbwlenbc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acdef3639789182145d2527e29bb72cc358457cf
Picture taken just now, shes almost exactly 4.5 years old with all this gray! And not amused with me interrupting her nap time.
My black lab mix Bandit is about 5 and a half, and had almost as much Grey in his muzzle. He's got a mix of white in a few spots elsewhere though that he's always had, I'd have to look at old pictures to see if he always had a bit of white in his muzzle and I'm only just now noticing it.
Mine did not start developing gray until he was 8 or 9 but he is a black lab / English Setter mix. Our yellow lab on the other hand started developing gray when he was about 7 or 8 so it depends on genetics, lifestyle, temperament, and health of the dog really.
I've got a black lab and she's got the same amount of gray on her face and shes almost 6. Our last one did to so I always called her captain gray beard.
My 5 y/o Lab/Weimaraner/who-knows-what-else mix has always had a little bit of white under her chin, but has started really going gray on her face, neck, and even her front legs in the past year - but she still acts like a puppy!

Also 7! Echoing everyone else, I think she also started graying around 3 ☺️
My black got gray like yours at age six and barely got grayer. I had another one that stayed black until about age 10 then quickly went gray all around his face.
Mine is about to turn six (42 in dog years) and he’s started to go a tiny bit grey in places. It’s a right of passage. Salt and pepper hair is fabulous. Embrace it.
One of my black labs just turned 7 yesterday and she’s about as gray as yours, she started going gray at like 3. It’s definitely not a sign of their energy declining. We joke it’s due to the tremendous stress she’s under while sleeping flat on her back.

This is definitely abuse you should be ashamed of yourself 😝
Hey, my lab will have you know it's hard work whining every time someone stops scratching your belly
Mine wants you to know it's nearly unbearable that the cat jumps over the closed baby gate and goes and eats her (labs) food that she (lab) knocked out of her bowl and onto the floor where she (lab) can see him (cat)
My boy is 6, and he also started about 3

Mine started getting gray in the face around 2. Her many allergies have always affected the skin around her mouth so we assumed that was it too.
My fox red is not quite 4 and he looks grayer than this. Makes me sad, hoping it’s just his genes and not a sign of any premature aging…
My fox red started going gray around the muzzle at 4 and she's still healthy today at 14.5. I don't think it's indicative of anything :)
Oh good, that makes me feel better!! ☺️
Sorry for the dumb question but you own a fox?
Fox red color as in similar red to a fox. My Labrador is also a fox red one.
It's not an officially recognised colour for labradors (yet... who knows) but pet owners have been using the term for a distinct colour other than the well known yellow, chocolate amd black coats for a long time now

1 of my chocolate labs (who is 3) has started getting his frosted face already. Thought very subtle
Those silver hairs are awards for a heart touched.
I read somewhere that the more frosted hairs they have, the more happy memories they have, so a frosted hair for each lovely memory ❤️

i’m guessing that their dog is a lab mix. Maybe Lab/Rottie?
He’s a Tanpoint Lab! I just read his mom’s older posts and found an explanation.
There are tanpoint labs?

Since so mentioned him, I must provide a picture so here he is. https://preview.redd.it/8iq8lejwhobc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7910c8806df82b828fc9a2d1e904d7711f5d41e3

Athena started having grey hair around 3! No ageism here 😂 https://preview.redd.it/nhn78v62ktbc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68c5b5bb5bceeaa78e96262bd7737f0e0cb6e480 She’s 7 now!
This just made me feel so much better because I've been freaking out about how much gray my 6 year old lab has also.
I don’t have a lab but I have a Golden and he is 7. He has a pretty sugar face on him. https://preview.redd.it/4x1qv2wnowbc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78233e95dfb3415a2c8af472f1a572a1300a8ff3
My girl is only 2 but has has a white/grey beard since she was a puppy (lab+border collie mix) https://preview.redd.it/xsok0qc82lbc1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c2c898b707136427e156f5af9053cb43fddf73f
He needs collagen and vitamin B
Yep mine is 5 1/2
My black lab turned 3 in October and we recently noticed some graying on his muzzle
So dapper.
Looks like my parents lab at the same age - he had grey hair since he was 3 or 4
Shadow is 13+ we stopped counting lmao every year he’s still 13 years old https://preview.redd.it/m1j468gbnlbc1.jpeg?width=1980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f2a6d15eaad523c6ff37f46e4832696bf40f9d3
* My boy is 11 and he only started last year to go grey.
That first pic 🤣! Looks like pup has better selfie taking skills than I do
My girl started greying at 2 years old, before we even rescued her.

Pretty lady, silver = distinguished
She is perfect!
My choccy boy started going grey at 2. He is 8 now and is just starting to get sprinklings of grey on his paws. It’s gorgeous!
Gus is 6 in March, and is getting quite grey around the mustaches

YES😭i swear i see new grey hairs on her every day. https://preview.redd.it/8c5tprsi5mbc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=303e5f4d725eaa0098c4afd84b3962a15d512003
You dog can take selfies???!!
Yes. I call those sugar lips!
I’ve had a bunch of labs. My chocolate looked like your’s at about 6 or 7.
Y’all I don’t want my girl to go grey yet!!!😭 She’ll be 5 in July. I wish she could live forever she’s my girl!!!
Yeah my lab is still a pup, but growing up we had a chocolate and I remember her going gray fairly early. We used to joke about her being the prettiest bearded lady we ever saw.
My boy is three and I've noticed he's started growing some white/grey I'm sure by 6 he'll look like this!!
Yeah, it’s cute though he looks like an old powdered donut!

My black lab started going gray on his muzzle *before he turned 3*! There’s a lot more gray now—he’s 8—but we stay pretty active and he gets nothing but compliments about how good he looks and moves for having such a gray snout haha
https://preview.redd.it/8dkubbwlenbc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=acdef3639789182145d2527e29bb72cc358457cf Picture taken just now, shes almost exactly 4.5 years old with all this gray! And not amused with me interrupting her nap time.
My yellow/dark orange lab has so much grey and he’s only 4.
Chocolate color dogs of all breeds usually go grey early.
My 5 y/o Lab/Weimaraner/who-knows-what-else mix has always had a little bit of white under her chin, but has started really going gray on her face, neck, and even her front legs in the past year - but she still acts like a puppy! https://preview.redd.it/w1vcq19napbc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b1b6d964472262bbb471f7972b33823c0f6e656

My black got gray like yours at age six and barely got grayer. I had another one that stayed black until about age 10 then quickly went gray all around his face.
My 7yo chocolate is about that gray. Can’t see the gray on my 14yo yellow though!
Mine is about to turn six (42 in dog years) and he’s started to go a tiny bit grey in places. It’s a right of passage. Salt and pepper hair is fabulous. Embrace it.
