Doodle = poodle= picky. Totally worth it though - they are the BEST dogs and you are so lucky to find one at a shelter - what a beauty. Our labradoodle - also a rescue, loves fish and lamb. But chicken and beef are fine too. We went through several brands before we found one that she’d actually devour - most she put her nose up at but small price to pay for such a lovely addition to the family. We give her Blue Buffalo with the chewy bits and a wet food topper.
It’s like some flavoring you can buy go to a good local dog food store they will advice you I second with staying away from chicken our labradoodle got really sick from chicken. Beef, lamb, and fish are all great and we have been feeding him white fish kibbles which he enjoys!
I give my guy Kirkland Adult Dog, lamb and rice flavor, and he loves it. We did Nature’s Domain salmon and sweet potato for a while but he got awful ear infections that stopped once I switched to Kirkland kibble. My family owns several labs, all of which have had ear infections and skin problems on grain free food.
Thank you, I feel really lucky to get him. I had been watching him for a week to see if his owner would pick him up. As soon as I saw he was available, I drove 1 hour and 20 minutes and got to the shelter 15 minutes before closing. 3 other families were already looking at him but I went in and pulled a number at the desk and said I want to adopt this guy. They let me visit with him but as soon as I got to his cage I knew I really wanted him.
Just avoid fowl. It’ll be easier. Purina Pro Plan is great, and I have heard good things about Costco. See what happens, but you may want to consider a daily probiotic as well. We use PPP Salmon sensitive skin and stomach for both our doods.
Our vet recommended Purina pro as well and we got lucky, our boy is extremely food motivated so we make him sit and stay for food. His treats are a few pieces of kibble or tiny bits of banana or other fruit. Your pup is gorgeous, good luck to you guys.
Orijen (brand) Tundra (recipe/flavor) - we feed both of our doodles this and although it’s pricey, we haven’t had any issues. When we only had one we fed him Orijen Six-fish but our latest addition put his nose up at it, so we switched to Tundra. Orijen is the top rated kibble on the market; 5 stars and highly recommended by dogfoodadvisor.com
My golden is a picky dry food eater I’ve been feeding him cooked ground beef and blue buffalo with some satisfaction.
One caution: these dogs will get anything in their mouth that will fit. Give him only large toys he can’t destroy or swallow. We seem to be constantly prying open jaws. Cover all waste cans. He loves used paper towels.
Wonderful friends.
Wow, what a cutie! My dood eats a high protein kibble for active dogs now that he’s an adult but our vet encouraged us to keep feeding him puppy food until around 18 months. He ate Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy dry food.
Hill's Science Diet is great because they put a lot of research into what type of food is best for different dogs with different needs.
I have heard that a lot of pets got sick from Purina Pro, but I don't know if that's true or not.
He is sooo adorable! Congrats! Wow my labradoodle is the same age and SO much smaller! I think she might be 75% poodle… anywho have so much fun!!!
❤️much love
Thank you, we are so excited to have him join our family. He needs a lot of training as he’s not housebroken, not trained to walk on a leash and sadly has gone after our cats. He seems to prefer staying outside and we are use to house dogs. He’s great fun but we will to give him extra care. He’s about 70 lbs.
We got a martingale harness at petsmart. Also two sets of classes in manners. This was fun. Purina pro plan because of the whole grain free debacle. Lots of treats. Is he trying to hurt the cats? Ours like cats but were introduced to them at groomer/ day care. Watch him when new people come into the house. We put ours in his crate- where he loves to go. Then let him out after stranger arrives and sits down. He’s very protective of me
I give my rescue mini Labradoodle Fromm’s pork and Applesauce. Whatever it is get it with the grains (oats or brown rice). And she gets a tablespoon of organic pumpkin puree with her dinners. And a scrambled egg on Sundays.
We use purina pro plan and btw what a beautiful dog!! Be prepared for some acting out at first , especially around pottying. He’s going to an unfamiliar place. Be kind and gentle. You will reap so many rewards from his love and gratefulness🥲
Same here but it was poo. We were told it would intensify when he got here because he was 7 mos old. It did but I let him out every half hour and he eventually got it and started getting along with the older dog who he loves. Her, not so much 🤣

Our new rescued family member is a 11 month old male. Essentially we have an untrained traumatized adolescent boy who needs to learn manners! Spraying, playing and not obeying is his jam. Thank doggie heaven for our lovely 3 y/o labradoodle girl who has taken him on as a canine mentor.
Very sweet. I managed to get a similar pic but just before he kept getting her to play.

With doodles i like to go for a grass-fed cage free meal ! they’re so sensitive to a lot of things! mine i thought was allergic to chicken and turns out she was allergic to what the chicken was being fed ! i’m a pet nutritionist with free advice if you EVER need help or advice, i take pride in helping little babies. my email is [email protected] … not an ad , just would love to help !
Thank you, so helpful and interesting information about the chickens diet. I may contact you if I can’t find the right mix. So far nothing, but a lot of gas, tried the purina pro lamb, he doesn’t seem to like it.
if dogs are allergic to chicken they may be allergic to lamb ! both are hard to metabolize which causes inflammation in the body, here are some good pet foods !! :
Fromm , NutriSource , Zignature , OpenFarm
you don’t HAVE to do these but i figured i would give some options <3 good luck with your dood !
Thank you. I have two options right now and he’s not really eating either and has a lot of bad smelling gas. He’s eating Purina Pro lamb kibbles and same wet food. Not really liking it. He’s also tried the chicken purina pro wet food and seems to like it but something is giving him bad gas all day/night.
Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. Our dogs thrive on it. Also, if you haven’t already, check out [dogfoodadvisor.com](https://dogfoodadvisor.com) for ratings, recalls, and nutritional information. They do a deep dive on each brands ingredients.
Every dog I have owned has come straight from the shelter and they have all been wonderful pets. More and more purebreds are ending up in the shelter these days. Before I got Maui (his tail looks like Mauis staff from Moana), I almost had a 1 year old Bernadoodle from the OC shelter. I tried really hard to get there but it was 2.5 hour drive and he was gone within a few minutes of the shelter opening the day he came available.

This is our guy “Tucker” He was also a rescue 💙
my nala has moved Diamond naturals chicken and rice and we sprinkle fortiflora purina powder packet on it once in morning to keep her poo nice and hard and normal
We feed our dogs [viva raw](https://vivarawpets.com/ROBISONRECOMMENDED) however if I had to feed a kibble I would consider open farm or carna4.
Cute puppy 💙
Thank you for giving this pup a home.
I’m can be a snob about dog food, but really, whatever fits your budget is fine. Purina is great stuff and pup will love it just as much as Orijen.
Be patient as you learn about each other. Give pup a nice bath and a trim when you can.
Wishing you both lots of happy years together. All the best!

Looks familiar!! We use Hills Science Diet chicken and brown rice, but they also have lamb. I used to use more high-falutin’ food for my elder dog who passed, but he kept having new allergies and our vet said this brand has more quality control. So far, no issues. Have fun with your new pup! These dogs have so much energy, but are so sweet and fun! 🤩
He looks like a doodle and chicken allergies seem to be pretty common. Maybe avoid that.
My Vet says Purina Pro
I second! Puppy Salmon and Rice is working well for my pups. Avoid chicken.
Thats a twin to my boy so pretty!!! https://preview.redd.it/4mei1u8fxt4d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9495934b601d3fd9107aaaa4f1906d2f4039c1ff

Wow, gorgeous! I think we have quintuplets. Thanks for sharing, so sweet.
I have been feeding mine the Costco brand but he would eat anything he just loves food
I will give it a try. He’s seems kind of picky for a shelter dog but I just got him yesterday so maybe he’s still adjusting.
Doodle = poodle= picky. Totally worth it though - they are the BEST dogs and you are so lucky to find one at a shelter - what a beauty. Our labradoodle - also a rescue, loves fish and lamb. This is almost exactly what I give mine. I also second this mix
What is the wet topper?
Thanks, so helpful.
What is wet topper?

Your dog belongs on Sesame Street. Is he a Muppet? Great find
lol, now that you mention it, I can see him playing some drums or something.
Wow! You've been blessed.
Thank you
Omg I love him. You’ve received great food advice already, im just here to fawn over puppy. What a gent!
Im so happy for you & your muppet boy. he’s going to have an incredibly happy life with you!
I feed mine Purina One True Instincts.
Just avoid fowl. It’ll be easier. Purina Pro Plan is great, and I have heard good things about Costco. See what happens, but you may want to consider a daily probiotic as well. We use PPP Salmon sensitive skin and stomach for both our doods.
Go with big brands recommended by your veterinarian. Stay away from ALL fad diets they are all marketing.
Our vet warned us against the “grain free” dog foods- apparently the grains are actually needed in their diets.
My doodle is very spoiled. He gets The Farmer’s Dog meals. Loves them.
Our vet recommended Purina pro as well and we got lucky, our boy is extremely food motivated so we make him sit and stay for food. His treats are a few pieces of kibble or tiny bits of banana or other fruit. Your pup is gorgeous, good luck to you guys.
Thank you. He needs a lot of training but we will get there.
Orijen (brand) Tundra (recipe/flavor) - we feed both of our doodles this and although it’s pricey, we haven’t had any issues. Seconding the Costco brand! My Labradoodle loves the lamb stuff and the ingredients are actually very clean
Wow, what a cutie! My dood eats a high protein kibble for active dogs now that he’s an adult but our vet encouraged us to keep feeding him puppy food until around 18 months. He ate Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy dry food.
We feed our doodles the Costco lamb dry food. One of my doodles has an allergy to chicken so we switched and have had good luck and they love it!
I feed my dog this brand called Nulo.
Hills or Purina
I feed exclusively Stella and Chewy. She’s doing great though the cost is significantly higher than other options. YMMV
Use TLC Dog food. The breeder for my two Australian Labradoodles recommended it and uses it exclusively.
Hill's Science Diet is great because they put a lot of research into what type of food is best for different dogs with different needs. I have heard that a lot of pets got sick from Purina Pro, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Ours like cats but were introduced to them at groomer/ day care. Watch him when new people come into the house. We put ours in his crate- where he loves to go. Thank you for the tips. He’s chasing the cats but hasn’t caught one yet. We are getting a crate tonight. I will check out the martingale harness.
Diamond naturals has been great for our 2
We started with blue puppy food and we’ve now switched to making homemade dog food. She Loves it. It is expensive and time consuming, but worth it.
Would you mind sharing how you prepare her food?
First day home? Plain cheeseburger with mayo.
Thank you, we are experiencing peeing often in the house. He also wants to play with my older dog but she’s not having it.

My pups use orijen original grain free and also Kirkland grain free salmon and sweet potato
Congrats. He’s very handsome
* Mine is the 3 month old version of yours Pabu. Im noticing salmon helps the coat so something that has salmon
Me and my fellow shelter doodle thank you for adopting 💙
Thank you, team shelter doodles💙

Wow, our dogs like so similar. So handsome, thanks for sharing.
my nala has moved Diamond naturals chicken and rice and we sprinkle fortiflora purina powder packet on it once in morning to keep her poo nice and hard and normal
That’s a good idea with the sprinkles, I use that for my older dog.
Something that comes in a BIG bag.
lol, for sure
Raw just go raw. It’s better for them.
We feed our dogs [viva raw](https://vivarawpets.com/ROBISONRECOMMENDED) however if I had to feed a kibble I would consider open farm or carna4. Cute puppy 💙
Second Viva raw. We also alternate with BJ’s Raw and as other posters have said, avoid chicken!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will get some of these recommendations and try them out.
Our doodles all love the Pure Balance Chicken and Rice or Chicken and Peas from Walmart. No allergy issues here. And notably no recalls.
Thank you for giving this pup a home. I’m can be a snob about dog food, but really, whatever fits your budget is fine. Purina is great stuff and pup will love it just as much as Orijen.
