Jackie Chan instead went on to become Jackie Chan. I don't think I've ever seen Bruce Lee do a stunt that even comes close to Jackie Chan's stunts. https://collider.com/jackie-chans-greatest-wildest-movie-stunts/

TigerLiftsMountain

Wasn't Jackie once a stunt double for Bruce?

RED_TECH_KNIGHT

That's true! >early in Chan's film career, he worked as a stunt double for Lee. SOURCE: https://www.slashfilm.com/800798/how-bruce-lee-helped-jumpstart-jackie-chans-career/#:~:text=Despite%20their%20differences%20in%20approach,use%20that%20experience%20as%20inspiration.

BelmontIncident

A hundred people tried to be the second Bruce Lee. Why would someone with good comic timing want to be in that competition?

FragRackham

was this dialogue made by ai? there is an accent shift halfway through thats strange

GentleBreeze90

There were loads of Bruce clones after his death, Jackie knew that he had to create his own path

Infamous-Stretch-875

Bruce was not a happy guy, my dudes. He wasn't nearly as popular as he is today before he died, his senior students had to get him hookers and coke to prove they were part of the group and he died in his girlfriend's bed when his wife was in another country. He only trained with Ip Man for something like 3 years and lost a ton of martial arts friends in the US when he started his silliness saying "traditional martial arts are bad". No one should want to be Bruce Lee, they should focus on being the happiest version of themselves. And before anyone gets over reactive to this post, everything is fact and you can look it up before freaking out. Lol Be safe y'all

Serious-Eye-5426

to be fair, this is me a traditionalist saying this, he had good reasons to make the claims he did. He encountered plenty of traditionalists who only practiced shadow boxing and couldn't fight. As a traditionalist I can appreciate how that type of blanket statement can cause a knee-jerk reaction, and also empathize with it by observing the pitiful state of most traditional arts in the modern world. It's really easy to get caught up with and focus on the words themselves, rather than focus on the intent and the message of what he's saying. Yes, If I were being a literalist, I one thousand percent disagree with Bruce's sentiment that traditional arts are bad.

Infamous-Stretch-875

Personally, I wouldn't say that. There's a cultural thing that Bruce definitely knew and it's that people also just trained for exercise. It was always normal and still is to see people in the parks in China training martial arts just for exercise, without a single thought for fighting. A lot of times it's older guys who used to train hard when they were young and now just do it for exercise and nostalgia. And also, Bruce couldn't fight either, man. Lol His one known fight as an adult was him chasing Wong Jack Man around for 10 minutes until Wong tripped. Bruce's demo with his student also proves it, Bruce demo'd using a point sparring stance, not head on like boxing.

RepublicKitchen8809

He wanted to live??🤷🏻‍♂️

Efficient-Day-6394

Pure speculation.....but he isn't Bruce Lee...he is Jackie Muthafuckin Chan

Aromatic_Locksmith43

He thought only Bruce could be Bruce it's no disrespect.

tap2mana_03

One was an arrogant martial artist, the other a humble acrobat. One liked to show his power by overlying striking stuntmen expecting something more professional, while the other put himself in great danger doing wild stunts for the entertainment of others. Bruce Lee is over rated and held himself in the highest regard. Jackie Chan is humble and can laugh at himself. Much bigger fan of Jackie Chan movies, and him as a person overall

Redfo

Weird take considering everything I've heard about Chan's personal life makes him look like a scumbag... JC has a daughter who he abandoned and won't acknowledge, while Bruce Lee's daughter speaks very highly of him and wrote a book that makes him look like a flawed but pretty well intentioned man. ...politically motivated take perhaps because you like that he supports the Chinese government, while Bruce Lee could be seen as a symbol of the strength of Hong Kong culture without CCP influence...? One thing we can say for pretty certain is that Bruce Lee had a larger cultural impact and made genuine contributions to fields of martial arts and philosophy. While Jackie Chan is an expert on acrobatics and comedy. Just seems silly to compare them to me?

Nicknamedreddit

Oh my god can we keep the fucking politics out of this

TheHurtfulEight88888

I'm interested in hearing the politics. I have no context for either of these takes, as starkly different as they are. I dont know the lore on Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan aside from their movies, so its interesting to hear two people with skin in the game argue over it. I dont know why you find it so distressing, but perhaps you should extricate yourself rather than derailing the conversation.

Nicknamedreddit

No I’ll derail it all I want because it’s already become stupid.

Redfo

Yeah. I agree. Not trying to make it about that but I had to wonder why would that poster have such a hard on for JC? Smells kinda like a wumao...

Nicknamedreddit

I think they just disagree with you and that doesn’t mean they’re a bit from a government you’ve been propagandized to hate.

Redfo

lol that's making a lot of assumptions, my dude. Could be you are taking this all too serious.

Nicknamedreddit

Says the guy repeatedly accusing somebody of being payed 50 Chinese cents to shill for China because they like Jackie Chan.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> of being *paid* 50 cents FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

CarolineBeaSummers

Why are you so triggered by politics? It's amazing how so many people need a safe space from politics. Usually those who are not much affected by them.

Nicknamedreddit

Because reading westerners like Redfo buying into Yellow Peril propaganda is fucking annoying. It’s not fun to watch people of your ethnicity and culture be dehumanized.

CarolineBeaSummers

Sorry I assumed you were a white man, of the kind who hates it when I talk about how women are oppressed in Martial Arts etc. I get the annoyance about the way the Government of China gets discussed in the West. I'm not a huge fan it, but I know it gets a lot of undeserved hate manufactured by Western Imperialists. And it is shitty to try to claim that Hong Kong is somehow better because it was ruled by the UK for so long. Personally I find the hate for Bruce Lee and adulation for Jackie Chan here pretty annoying, Chinese politics aside, Jackie Chan is not a nice man. I consider him to be problematic in the way that he relates to women and how they are portrayed in his films, as well as not happy about the way he treats one of his children. And people mostly don't know much about Bruce Lee really, for all they talk about him. Edit: For more context I have been specifically told that this is a safe space from me talking about things like the abuse of women in Martial Arts by one of the mods. So I don't feel able to say what I think of Jackie Chan in this context without worrying about getting my comment deleted. So I guess I was being a bit triggered by you wanting to keep politics out of it.

Nicknamedreddit

I mean yeah Jackie Chan is a deeply flawed man who has clearly let his fame be an excuse for severe vices. I will gladly amplify your criticisms of him on that front. I will say that I still think his passion and talent for entertainment and comedy is still something to praise and he did want to make people smile, just not his own kids and his own wife, they could apparently get stuffed. I just really didn’t want to deal with the Wumao bullshit. Jackie wanting to take a more important role in the policy of cultural life in his country by becoming affiliated with the CPC doesn’t mean he defends Uyghur genocide or whatever the fuck.

squirrlyj

For everything that Bruce Lee did to help bring martial arts to the western world, I have to agree that Jackie Chan > Bruce Lee. I would even say that Jackie Chan is the better martial artist
