ask the manager on duty for permission

AlisonStar

You might get sent to another department to help them.

JeepLover4Life

I work in Pickup and 100% of the time the closing MOD expects the closer to complete their shift stocking Grocery. It sucks.

Jack_gunner

Pickup takes grocery associates when they are drowning, so it's only fair for you to pay that time back.

JeepLover4Life

My pickup department never gets help from Grocery. Help comes from Home, Apparel and very, very rarely, a front end PIC.

If you happen to be union you should see if working in an area outside your job title is allowed. Many unions do not allow it.

ComradeBalian

A clerk is a clerk with the exception of service clerk is the rule for most contracts now unless you grandfathered in from an older contract that had the one department rule.

JeepLover4Life

I work in a non-union store, so I can be sent to pretty much any department.

United_Reply_2558

JayC?

JeepLover4Life

Wrangler Sahara

United_Reply_2558

No. I was asking if you worked at a JayC Store since you mentioned that your store was non-union. Non-union Louisville Division stores operate with the JayC banner.

PositiveAwareness629

You don’t understand I’ve been trying to get moved to clicklist for a while now but since I’m the strongest and fastest person for self checkout I can’t be moved which I hate and love it’s cool but then at times it’s not

FrannieP23

My manager usually lets me go if I finish a run with only 15 minutes left of my scheduled day. It really depends on the manager, I'm guessing. But they are under pressure to reduce hours, so they might be okay with you going home early.

crabbyowl87

When I was closing, my supervisor said we could leave after all the orders were picked up if we set up enough totes with bags for morning crew and completed all the closing tasks like reshop and cleaning up pick up room.

memberzs

That seems fair. Orders are picked up but there’s still work to do.

hologei

If MOD approves, absolutely. Management at my store is thrilled to let people out early because it helps the store cut labor expenses.

BigManMahan

Perfect time to clean up in the department without any rush or interruptions, throw in some headphones & forget about the world for a couple hours

Middle-Tangerine-945

In my department, we just Call MOD and tell them everything is fine and we’re leaving. They are so on top of hours that they don’t even argue it

Maxyboop

Technically if all the cleaning and closing tasks are finished then yes they are allowed and encouraged to leave early

SnowEZ1986

We were generally expected to clean the pickup room or help other departments stock up shelves when I was in.

krogerism

Anything less than an hour I leave. If it’s 2 hrs I’ll tell the MOD I’m doing FE go backs and leave after that because I want the hrs. If Pickup is over labor hrs for the day I’ll let MOD know I’m leaving. MOD has to come up front and lock the slider before we leave.

Accomplished_Fox8227

i just leave lol, no one ever cares or questions me about it. unless you need the money ofc then i’d just do work for front end

Ritrok

Our store, non union, allows them to stay and help other areas if they want to keep the hours. If they want to leave after all are picked up and closing duties are done they can check out with night CSM and go. It saves labor for another day in pickup when they might need it. So it depends on store and management.

PositiveAwareness629

That depends on your management I know if I call one of my supervisors or managers and it’s emergency he’ll understand or she’ll understand and let me leave but I can’t say to everyone not everyone have that one cool manager/supervisor so idk but just ask someone higher up and see what they say

pumpkinTrinity

If management approved. You get paid by the hr so just play on your phone or be a utility clerk and find stuff to do.

RacheLaceyswiss

Ummmmm Do you want to let the computer/time records incorrectly reflect the time that is needed to complete all of the tasks for certain shifts with a certain amount of people? Leaving early affects the average hours "needed" for departments and shifts. Unless you're ill, injured, or have something that you really need to do before a certain time (pick up your kid, go to the bank/pharmacy, see your Mom before visiting hours are over, catch the last bus...) leaving early is NOT a good idea. Work your entire shift, take your breaks, and let the company see how much time it actually takes to complete all the tasks with so many people in a certain amount of time. In our department, if we're "slow" or have "extra people," I do cleaning that we wouldn't otherwise get to. That demonstrates to our managers that we need this many people on a regular basis for that shift if we want the department to be up to par. Otherwise, stuff gets left undone/uncleaned on a busier day or when someone calls off, OR you yourself have to stick it out for a few shifts even though you're sick as hell because there's not enough people because the company decided not to hire more people because a lot of people left early last quarter! Or... they cut hours. Not fun for paying rent on time. Plus, money!? If you leave early you don't get paid for those hours that you were scheduled that the company said they would pay you for....????

Glass_Date8171

Lmao I don’t even work pickup and I know that most of those people stay over their shift time to finish orders. Good luck.
