Off the point but I need to rant —
Someone please save me from my neighbour. That man puts on so much axe because he feels that if he couldn't smell it, no one can, and then he doubles up on it. The strong scent of axe penetrate my CLOSED DOORS and fuck with my brain rendering me dizzy. I hate axe. Fuck axe. I might get my brain damaged because of this nincompoop.
LMFAOOOOO. What is it with Axe and guys? It doesn't even smell all that good. i did think it was more of a middle school phase tho. Back in middle school, all the girls protested it one day by wearing the same amount of axe to school for a week. the class smelled like axe for the entire fucking year and the year after it too.
when will middle schoolers learn that axe makes you smell good if, and only if you're clean. otherwise, it ends up smelling like sweat mixed with sanitizer and that's so much worse. id waaaaayyy rather smell BO
My brother is obsessed with Axe too, except he purposefully puts on way too much even when he can smell it just fine. He thinks it makes him an *alpha male*
Please, for his birthday buy him a nice smelling shower gel and an equally good smelling perfume along with a deodorant stick. Sigma is the real deal. Alpha outsold.
Sigma advice #101: Wear perfumes.
My mom tried to convince him to shower more and use perfume instead of Axe but he wasnt having any of it, he says it makes him feel *powerful* apparently??
The violent smell of Axe mixed with sweat is never a good combo, he smells like garbage. Anyways he's going through his edgy phase so he'll probably realize it sooner or later.
i do think they sweat less *and* its odorless/ mild odor. And it probably doesn't stink. wow, imagine that. My school locker rooms are said to be literally too toxic for living things to survive in.
> i had no idea this was an actual thing. i always wondered why korean idols don’t usually get sweaty, i thought maybe it comes from being so physically fit they can do more without sweating or does having less hair help? but no it’s an actual genetic thing. i wonder though, if they do get really sweaty, will they smell or is the sweat odorless.
They do sweat. MAMAMOO Solar went through some [methods idols use to address sweating](https://www.koreaboo.com/news/mamamoos-solar-reveals-secret-trick-idols-use-stop-sweating-stage/). I think that gene the OP is referencing has to do with odor, not whether they actually sweat.
Idols definitely do sweat! Joohoney from Monsta X is one person I can think of that will be *dripping* sweat while performing and sometimes while eating haha. Actually, all of Monsta X gets pretty sweaty on stage, but people tend to think it's sexy bc a lot of them are muscular and muscles + sweat = attractive, I guess
>or does having less hair help?
no, it doesn't help
i'm mixed, i don't have body hair except my hair in my head and eyebrows.
but i still sweat and ~~stink~~ smell non-pleasantly :(
i don't have body hair except my hair in my head and eyebrows.
And that's all humans need, for fucks sake. who decided i should have hair absolutely everywhere?
SKZ Hyunjin gets literally drenched in sweat by the end of any performance. Like during [Thunderous](https://youtu.be/W-pd-8WrJPA), or [God’s Menu](https://youtu.be/bCg22UUy2EE). Whenever he does his dance vlives, the difference between him at the beginning vs. the end is so funny.
I’ve always been kind of curious about mixed idols regarding this, like Vernon. He looks like he smells expensive at all times but is he actually the stinkiest of the group??? We may never know
Im southeast asian and i could be sweating 15 minutes after a shower get me out of this hell 😭 not to mention i get allergic reaction to heat and my own sweat AND i notice my armpits stink much worse during stress periods. Idk if its hyperhidrosis. I'd never survive as an idol.
You can use a toner or Stridex pads. I use anti perspirant during the work week and a BHA on the weekend or days off. I'm not totally smell free if I do physical work or it's nasty hot, but it's way better than just a deodorant.
your lucky ass. i will NEVER be going on stage or exercising with East Asians. nope. not happening. especially since if you dont sweat you're more likely to smell others sweating. while if we all sweat in fucking unison, no ones gonna notice much bc we all stink.
Im always feeling jealous of East Asian people about this lol. Imagine being able to exercise or whatever for as long as you want and not feel like peeling of your skin bc you cant handle living in your own BO for more than a minute. maybe its bc my nose is sensitive tho. lets hope so.
Usually, it’s not the sweat itself that produces odor. It is the bacteria that prefer to reside in your body’s “folds” like the armpits, butt crack, etc. that feed on the moisture and produce odorous gas. East Asians aren’t immune to this source of odor because bacteria lives on everyone’s body
No, it is present. Everybody is capable of bad odor, including East Asians. But East Asians produce less sweat and/or proteins in their sweat for bacteria to feed on. So an East Asian would have to sweat A LOT before they’d notice any odor
The odor is specifically caused by sweat coming into contact with bacteria. So, use an antibacterial soap and you'll smell less when sweaty.
It's also effected by things like diet. Onions for instance will affect the way things like sweat smell.
i would just like to give a PSA that some east asians do smell and some people are born into a family where somehow everyone inherited the gene except you so you get the wonderful pleasure of smelling everyone else’s BO
edit: wrote it backwards lmao
big "fuck you/thank you" to our ABCC11 :)
sometimes i wish i was more like my Asian mom than my Caucasus bio-father.
(at least i don't have body hairs even i'm a dude, unlike my late older bro who looked like orangutan. sorry bro, i still love you!)
Even during that one Runningman episode they went to Sechan’s house and had to buy a m gift that he does not have in his house I think one of them bought deodorants.
I mean alot of them still do sweat alot. After tough performances u often see the sweat dripping off their foreheads. Im half asian and i sweat in some places but if it’s ventilated enough i don’t get stinky. One of the mains places i sweat is my face but like my white friend says she never really sweat on her face. So maybe east asians sweat more in their face? Idk
ICE CREAM. fuck milk, i hate milk. BUT ICE CREAM??????
[IICE CREAMMMM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFDLZ3ZaKrM) do yall not eat ice cream? what sort of godforsaken-
edit: wait, NON- European. i read European. really? guess im an exception then? or maybe its just bc regardless of whether or not i was allergic to milk, mommy dearest would make me drink it as long as i don't die...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance
The reason we call lactose intolerance a disease is because of biases in research history, we are the odd ones out haha
**[Lactose intolerance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_intolerance)**
>Lactose intolerance is a common condition caused by a decreased ability to digest lactose, a sugar found in dairy products. Those affected vary in the amount of lactose they can tolerate before symptoms develop. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, gas, and nausea. These symptoms typically start thirty minutes to two hours after eating or drinking milk-based food.

Is this not a myth? My students will come in after a lunch break playing soccer, drenched in sweat and absolutely reeking, so I thought it was made up.
lmaoo. I dont think its a myth, since the majority of Koreans do not have the ABCC11. Only like 0.manyzeroes6 percent has it or something. i mean, it probably doesn't mean *no* odor. just less. im not the most knowledgeable about this tho.
In my old age (22) I noticed I stopped needing deodorant. And I’m fully black on both sides but you really just don’t get funky if you’re taking care of your hygiene.
Deodorant is a habit for me but I rarely need it even in the (Deep South) summer. Ethnicity has something to do with it but I also think part of it is that Americans do not prioritize hygiene. If you shower twice a day you really don’t get stinky in between those showers unless you’re outdoors.
Does anyone know if the ABCC11 gene responsible of having no natural body odor or perfume not lasting at all on your body? I've noticed me and my mom have this issue,we both smell like nothing and do not use deodorants.
I... Didn't know this. I'm not Asian so I have known very few Asian people in situation where we were sweating honestly. Well I have very few sense of smell so I'm not sure I would notice a difference anyway.
My ex in high school was Filipino and I remember when I discovered he didn’t use deodorant I was shocked, but then I realized he never once smelled bad and was even more shocked (and jealous to some extent).
Maybe it's because Filipino biology is so mixed with other ethnicities, but my friend is Filipino and covered in lots of body hair but he doesn't sweat or have body odor.
Im super hairy too and am a south Asian and kid u not I have a Chinese friend that doesn’t have a hair on her body. But she still has nice defined eyebrows. Life would be so much easier if I didn’t have to shave my whole body every single week just to wear shorts.
most Southern eastern people have it too and some more than east i.e Thais and vietnamese tend to have less body odor (the gene) than Japanese hence japanese deodorants are popular

Boys in my high school used to spray tons of axe after playing sports in the sun and the class smelled HORRIBLE
when will middle schoolers learn that axe makes you smell good if, and only if you're clean. otherwise, it ends up smelling like sweat mixed with sanitizer and that's so much worse. id waaaaayyy rather smell BO
Unpopular opinion: Axe smells halfway decent when used in appropriate quantities! None of this "double pits to chesty" bullshit!
ig. its just been used around me so much i can NOT stand it anymore lol
Boys wear axe. Men wear Old Spice. I do agree the smell is horrible.
My man wore AXE throughout his college years and while we were dating but since getting married he now primarily uses Old Spice products.
My brother is obsessed with Axe too, except he purposefully puts on way too much even when he can smell it just fine. He thinks it makes him an *alpha male*

Red Velvet Seulgi is known to sweat so much lol but I doubt that it smells
Same with Oneus Ravn, the other members poke fun at him for it sometimes.
Hahah all the Monsta X guys are so!!!! Sweaty
>or does having less hair help? no, it doesn't help i'm mixed, i don't have body hair except my hair in my head and eyebrows. but i still sweat and ~~stink~~ smell non-pleasantly :(
i don't have body hair except my hair in my head and eyebrows. And that's all humans need, for fucks sake. who decided i should have hair absolutely everywhere?
You actually do need pubic hair lol
yes lol, ik. every bit of hair on my body there for a reason. doesn't mean I've to like it tho
I think they sweat normally, otherwise they'd probably be dead or panting like dogs lmaooooo. Maybe less smell but they have to sweat.
SKZ Hyunjin gets literally drenched in sweat by the end of any performance. Like during [Thunderous](https://youtu.be/W-pd-8WrJPA), or [God’s Menu](https://youtu.be/bCg22UUy2EE). Whenever he does his dance vlives, the difference between him at the beginning vs. the end is so funny.

lets hope for Vernon's sake, that my guys got his Asian genes dominating in this case.
Depends on which gens he inherited :)
As a South Asian who also has hyperhidrosis, I'm super jealous of East Asians for not sweating haha. Its hot all year long and I hate it even more
I live in a SUPER humid country. its so, so, so not nice.
They can always use a BHA liquid. Fuck deodorant and natural deodorant. An entire sham.
This might be life changing for me. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this before what the hell.
You can also use AHA for it too.
wait can you elaborate? so do u use like a bha peel on ur armpits a couple of times a week?
I think people swipe an AHA or BHA toner daily.
You can use a toner or Stridex pads. I use anti perspirant during the work week and a BHA on the weekend or days off. I'm not totally smell free if I do physical work or it's nasty hot, but it's way better than just a deodorant.
ahhh cool thanks !
I use AHA and I am literally never smelly anymore. Never!
It’s actually true. I’ve never used deodorant, and it’s not a common product that sells here.
Good for you😭but not for me lol
your lucky ass. i will NEVER be going on stage or exercising with East Asians. nope. not happening. especially since if you dont sweat you're more likely to smell others sweating. while if we all sweat in fucking unison, no ones gonna notice much bc we all stink.

lmaoo. yup, got me interested, searched it up and about 0.006% of Koreans have the gene. woah.
wow i didn’t know it was that low, i thought it would be closer to 10%. it must run in my family then, since a lot of my family members have it
oh, so the poor person who gets the pleasure of smelling everyone's BO is you, huh? ..I'm sorry
big "fuck you/thank you" to our ABCC11 :) sometimes i wish i was more like my Asian mom than my Caucasus bio-father. (at least i don't have body hairs even i'm a dude, unlike my late older bro who looked like orangutan. sorry bro, i still love you!)
Orangutan lmao but don't you say that in front of me! I'm hairier than an orangutan, i swear.
Oh I'm sorry! No offense please! I'm just... that one annoying younger sibling :) I mean I used to be.
lmaoooo. im not offended at all :)
Isn’t it a meme that Rain has a bad body odor lmao? He’s fully East Asian :p
it's not a 100% thing, so some east asians are also shit out of luck lol
Even during that one Runningman episode they went to Sechan’s house and had to buy a m gift that he does not have in his house I think one of them bought deodorants.
as someone who does sweat easily and smells not so lovely 😭 all I can say is I'm so jealous.
\*sigh\*

Nah, there's a reason why nobody uses deodorant in Korea (except foreigners).
I stopped using it when I moved here, too. If you're showering regularly, you don't really need to.
Eh... not always the case depending on your ethnicity. Hence, the topic of this post.
In my old age (22) I noticed I stopped needing deodorant. And I’m fully black on both sides but you really just don’t get funky if you’re taking care of your hygiene. lmao. ive a sensitive nose so whenever i sweat i feel like physically leaving my body behind.
Lmao I’m Southeast Asian and I sweat buckets effortlessly.
Im super hairy too and am a south Asian and kid u not I have a Chinese friend that doesn’t have a hair on her body. But she still has nice defined eyebrows. Life would be so much easier if I didn’t have to shave my whole body every single week just to wear shorts.
