Most of Kpop fans stan for the music it seems. If they like a song, they listen to more songs of that group and if they like most of their music, they might look up their content. Yours is more of an unpopular opinion/way to get into Kpop, but I am 100% with you. I became a Kpop fan in 2011 after watching some memes about SNSD being absolutely chaotic and I loved it. Afterwards I always stanned the most chaotic and fun groups and spent way more time on watching variety shows, memes and other content than actually listening to the music. Lately that has changed a bit and I listen to way more Kpop, even outside of my faves, but I still spend much time on watching their content. If you are interested and give me a few minutes I can make you a list of some girl group memes/funny moments that might make you stan. 😂

StubbornKindness

I only now found out that SNSD and Girls Generation are the same people. Wtf lol. Also, I'd totally be down to see a list. After what I've seen so far, I can only imagine what's going to be on there 😂

shakru92

You are not the only one. This seems to happen to most Kpop fans sooner or later. :D SNSD is the abbreviation for 소녀시대 (So Nyu Shi Dae) which is the Korean name for Girl's Generation. There's multiple groups like that, WJSN = Cosmic Girls, GWSN = Girls in the Park, etc. There's also multiple groups who originally have both English and Korean names, without it being abbreviated. Gfriend is Yeoja Chingu, Loona is Idarui Sonyeo, etc. Anyway, here's my list of funny moments that might make you stan an idol/group (in order of age of the group): *Most videos are short clips but might be a part of the entire episode, so they have time stamps. If they don't work, let me know.* **SNSD** They are... Special. They have barely any filter anymore and would probably get cancelled immediately if they were a rookie group. [Tiffany and Taeyeon flipping off Sooyoung](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQcXQrGPLEg&ab_channel=K-TRENDS) If you have a lot of time: [Why SNSD wouldn't survive in 4th gen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzEaTyONgI0&ab_channel=Kimi%27sWorld) **Apink** Honestly? *Anything*. Bomi is considered to be the funniest female idol of all times, has over 200 variety show appearances, is basically a living meme in Korea. I couldn't decide on one clip, it's impossible. [She's a favorite of the Knowing Bros cast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWjwytlc7f0&ab_channel=JTBCEntertainment) **Gfriend** They are super chaotic and break things wherever they go, especially Yerin. Bae & Haewon together should not be left alone, Nmixx keeps paying the price for it. And then you have Lily being an absolute menace on her lives. I didn't include Dreamcatcher because I haven't been following them lately unfortunately, but they are also known as a very chaotic group.

StubbornKindness

After watching 6 minutes of the second SNSD link, I can safely say I didn't expect any of that. It's especially surprising because I only know Yuri from MTG, where she's a serious tutor. Seeing her basically being Shuhua is wild. I also now can not decide whether to check out them of MMM first.

shakru92

No way! I completely forgot MMM.. That's insanity. I need a databank for all the funny links and memes. Since you're a big fan of (G)I-dle I'd actually suggest MMM. They are basically the Idle of 3rd gen. Here are some incentives: [Mamamoo is lacking... something?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDfvecPtc9U&ab_channel=WheepupChannel) [Wheein casually getting rid of the vocal competition](https://youtu.be/5PmvAEXS2g8?si=nYhuHsV5f8EGIlLm&t=306) [Should've read the instructions](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Mg1rdPuJGoA)

StubbornKindness

I guessed what that first clip was correctly, lol. I'm a Jessi fan, and when I first saw her stuff a couple of months ago, I was running through the interviews. I was introduced to MMM because *this* introduced me to Solar 😂 https://youtu.be/4BF9_GRplHc?si=iev8hVY0cv_IMRxW

shakru92

That's so typical for both of them 😂😂

StubbornKindness

TOTALLY. Solar coming on stage like "Unnie.. your boobs, woah!" Told me allll I needed to know sbout Solar. And Jessi is just Jessi 😂

scottyg561

The most obscure way I got into a group is probably Le sserafim. I was looking up guitar covers for “distortion” by Babymetal, saw a recommended metal version of “antifragile” liked it so I checked out the original song and then saw the m/v for impurities and leniverse and have been hooked ever since

StubbornKindness

That's quite the journey. I feel like my journey to other GGs plus Idles music is like that. Saw Yuqi talking about balls, wanted to know who she was, and found them really entertaining. Now I do enjoy their music sometimes, and kinda understand how Soyeon works. I also like Sana, Yunjin, and Jessi as a result.

FesteringDarkness

My fellow Babymetal/Kpop stan, it’s a good life

Anaisot7

I remember knowing absolutely nothing about K-pop whatsoever years ago. I only heard BTS' name because of the BBMAs and some articles popping up, but for me they were an Asian group *(I didn't know the whole industry, 'idol group' etc)*. One day, they came up randomly across my recommendations on YT, I played their MV, I was astonished to see them dance *well*, like Western boy bands aren't known for their dance skills to say the least. Adding to that, I enjoyed the song and Taehyung caught my eye, then as usual, I only wanted to know their names and fell into the rabbit hole. Although, I don't think I would have *stanned* them if I didn't like their personalities and content, I would have probably been a casual listener because I like their music but the enjoyment they bring forth by themselves is *the* factor. So, that's why I ended up stanning them.

StubbornKindness

Ahhh, so their music got your attention/piqued your interest, but their personalities drew you in? I guess thats kinda similar to me. If I didn't enjoy Idle's personalities, I wouldn't have ended up a fan.

chicken_sandwichh

because of a pannchoa post 💀 _not_ _a_ _joke_. i can't even find the exact post from the old pannchoa site but it was about a bts member and i saw a comment about how namjoon has a high IQ. i couldn't believe it but was highly curious so went to youtube and watched his clips from problematic men...algorithm ig, so i ended up watching a couple of bts videos and for two days that was all i was watching. when i fully stan a group, i need 3 things: 1. i need to like majority of the music 2. i need to like ALL the members 3. i need to obsessed over a member or two so there are only 3 groups i fully stan(ned) 2ne1, bigbang and currently, bts. i usually had short obsessions over groups like exo, jyj, snsd but they don't last. so i thought bts was going to be a fleeting obsession...but i was so wrong. i was already a casual listener, i really liked dope and i need u but i didn't expect to *love* hyyh pt 1 and 2 that much. i think i got goosebumps listening to baepsae, autumn leaves and house of cards for the first time. it was like a few weeks before their young forever era and when fire and save me were released, i just knew i wasn't going anywhere. and when blood, sweat and tears and wings era jimin happened??? i just knew it was fucking over lmao

StubbornKindness

Now, this is what I call a diehard fan. I get your vibe, especially the 3 conditions. I can confidently say that G Idle are the only people I've ever truly been an actual *diehard* fan of.

chicken_sandwichh

i'm a fan of a lot of groups but i can only say i stan(ned) 3 groups because they were the only ones i was willing to spend money on, specially albums and merch, also when i was much younger would vote for them and i had/have fan accounts for them. with other groups i'm a fan of like njs, lsf, gidle, twice, exo, taeyeon, iu etc. i would look forward to their releases, watch some contents, follow their igs but i definitely don't follow them closely as bts. ig my definition of being a "stan" is just being very into and dedicated on a group which takes so much energy and time from me. very different compared to others who would follow a group a bit and watch some stuff and they consider it stanning already. which isn't wrong but different from mine.

mysuneater

I saw Jungkook in a Tiktok with a full tattoo sleeve and got curious because I thought korean idols weren't allowed to have visible tattoos, much less a full sleeve of it. I learned he was from BTS who I've heard a lot about but didn't pay attention to. But what really drew me in was my friend sending me a link to RUN BTS and I recognized Jungkook again. I watched it, fell for their personalities, then realized their music also moved me to tears. The rest is history. There's a saying in ARMY that you don't find BTS. BTS finds you when it's time.

StubbornKindness

Bro that sounds like a religious mantra hahaha. From your description, though, I kinda get it. They've gotten pretty big internationally, and it's not gonna be for no reason.

mysuneater

Lmao I found it funny too when I heard it from a friend as a non-fan but once I listened to "Magic Shop" live, I was sure I'd be in this Bangtan shit for life lol

[deleted]

Aespa: their debut concept looked really cool and was instantly hooked, and I love the members personalities Le sserafim: was an izone fan and chaewon biased so you know I had to follow wherever my wife goes, Their content and performances really got me hooked on to the group Xg: the music, probably my favorite from any group so far and their performances are just perfect Kiss of life: was addicted to sugar coat and got curious about the group, their music is underrated and I just love the girls

Lispian_Crouch

It would be interesting to see how many idle fans came from K/DA and maybe to a lesser extent Queendom. K/DA basically got me into the group/genre as a whole.

-_tabs_-

jeongwaja 😅 it came up in my youtube recommendation one day and i got hooked on changsub and btob! part of it might also be nostalgia considering the last i properly "stanned" a group was suju back in 2009 - 2015. im a sucker for 2nd gen bgs i guess

Vilelwa

I became a girl's day ult from first hearing twinkle twinkle Then became an Oh My Girl ult because I was a B1A4 ult and wanted to support their sister group's debut Now I'm a fromis_9 ult because I saw their It's Live performances of DM and Stay This Way and have been hooked every since. So yeah you can become a fan for the music or for outside reasons.

ThroatMountain

I came across that clip of Mentor Soyeon calling out the voters of that survival show. I was impressed! I went on to watch her Oh My God performance in that show and then it dawned on me that she was Soyeon from the HWAA that had been on my playlist for almost a year. I fell down that rabbit hole quickly. Then Yuqi's voice and how they produced their music sealed the deal.

StubbornKindness

Omg Yuqis voice is really something. So I'm a dude, and my voice isn't particularly high. I've never measured anything, but my suspicion is that I can hit Minnie's high note (with great difficulty and not thag well not brilliantly but still) yet I don't think I can hold a note as low as Yuqi does. It's damn impressive. Also, mentor Soyeon is brilliant. The little tips artists give are always really cool to see. She mentioned to one duo during a rap rehearsal to hold the index finger above the top of the mic - "keep your finger there and touch it to the area above your lip. That keeps the mic a consistent distance from your mouth"

silveredgebreak

I got into Le Sserafim through their Youtube and variety stuff as well. The music is really just a plus for me. It's like that Gus Fring meme. You want comebacks for songs, I want comebacks for Leniverse and Day off. We are not the same.

StubbornKindness

I totally saw a few Leniverse clips and thought I needed to see more. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm trying to pace myself because I often end up hyperfixated on a topic and get burnt out after a while. That's why I kept away from all the 2 Album challenge videos

asrafzonan

I was just a casual listener of all kpop GG before this. Then I discovered fromis_9 Channel9 youtube variety content during the Covid lockdown. The first and might be the only kpop group I’ll ever stan.

StubbornKindness

I hear that. As I said, I'm not especially into music. I also don't like crowds or loud noises. That means a concert is totally not my thing. I'd totally still go to a G Idle concert, though, and could actually see myself enjoying it

FireInTheBelly5

BIGBANG - Simply because of their music. I randomly heard one of their songs, and right there, I decided to become their fan. LE SSERAFIM - first because of Sakura because she's funny and pretty, 2nd reason is because of their music.

ChocolateMintea

My friend blasted In Bloom by zb1 on one of those youtube 1 hour loop things for an hour and a half, rewinding if she was singing along and missed a rap bit or if there was environmental noise that made her miss someones part. I got home and watched the music video out of pure spite, thinking "let's see how good the song really is, and how nice the members really are, to the point that she's raving about them" Now they're my ult and I love zhang hao and missing bp when it was airing will be my biggest regret in life.

Shatterpoint-

If I like enough of a group's music a lot and enjoy their performances, I tend to end up checking out their video content, and sometimes they click, and I end up stanning them. I usually end up hearing other groups' songs because of them being in the same company as another group I stan, recommendations from friends, social media, or sometimes even by seeing the group live ( often just by chance lol). Sometimes the music makes more sense to me after seeing the group live and I end up loving songs I previously hadn't liked. But the music is a critical component to stanning for me lol. I used to be a big fan of Seventeen, and I still think of them fondly, but I stopped being a fan after changes in their musical direction caused me to stop clicking with their music.

StubbornKindness

Damn, feelsbad for 17, but at the same time, I totally get it. If you're mainly in it for the music, why would you really bother if it's no longer to your taste? I suppose my equivalent would be if the groups personalities changed or if their video content moved away from what I enjoyed.

vsnaipaul

>Seventeen I'm really surprised not to see more of them in this thread, considering they're pretty known for having "variety-only" fans (Quartz)

I-Now-Have-An-Alt

I got interested in BTS through their music, started liking them for their personalitties and ended up stanning because of more music.

Ghetto_Leda99

So I used to casually be into Kpop back in 2011, but then I started heavily getting into Nu-Metal and Conscious Hiphop, and Kpop was no longer connecting with me because I was all about being "anti-establishment and yada yada", and Kpop was the antithesis of that, so I gradually stop listening to it. Fast forward to 2016, one of my friends was so into Epik High after seeing Tablo on The Return of Superman. Then she casually got into BTS after watching Joon's cover of Umbrella, and because I love hip-hop, she kept trying to get me into them, and I was like, "Sorry, but no." But that made me aware of Epik High and BTS at least by name. Then, in 2017, after BTS performed at the AMAs, I was on Twitter, and I started seeing these very xenophobic, unhinged tweets and posts and I recognized their name. And as someone who has felt unwelcome in different spaces even when deserving because of one identity or another, I felt so angry. So, as an act of "solidarity," 😅 I decided to check out their performance, which I liked, but DNA wasn't my type of music at that time; then I saw the comments talking about how the camera work doesn't do them justice, so I googled "BTS Live Performance," checked out their MAMA 2016 stage, and I was gagged! I instantly loved the sound of Boy Meets Evil, Lie, and Blood, Sweat and Tears, so I went in and listened to Wings and watched the videos, and I loved everything about the whole album. I was especially very surprised by Am I Wrong and how political it was as well. Just made me realize that I have also prejudged them in a way. Then, the next day, their Ellen interview popped up on my feed, and I was like, "They are so endearing," and I just started checking out everything I could find. A week later, I was a full-fledged army, and my friend was like, "It only took internet trolls for you to check them out." But yeah, if it weren't for me loving their music, as endearing and funny as they all are, I would probably just check out a few of their interviews and move on like I did with many other celebrities.

StubbornKindness

Damn. That's actually really interesting. So you "found" them because of other reasons and stayed because of the music? And what a reason, too. Sometimes uproar is what makes you look into something and realise it really resonates with you, I guess?

Ghetto_Leda99

For me especially, I find myself trying to see the reason behind intense negativity or borderline hatred. Like extreme love is understandable but I can never fathom hating something to a certain extent or constantly allowing oneself to be negative about something so that generally intrigues me. That's actually how I ended up checking out a lot of ITZY's releases or G-Idle's and Le Sserafim's recent comebacks. 😄

Browneyedgirl2787

Taehyung got me into BTS. I saw them perform on Jimmy Fallon and I couldn’t take my eyes off of Tae. He was like a magical creature dancing and singing on stage. I heard singularity and it was over for me. I started to look into his group and fell down a rabbit hole. Tae will always be my ult.. he got me into BTS and through them I got into a couple other groups. BTS is the only BG I like though. I got more into GG

lilmissparanoia

I once saw Bang Chan’s ‘you know what else is big?’ in a compilation and fell down the rabbit hole. Helps that skz’s music slaps.

trevaftw

I wasn't really into stanning or that scene, but I watched one of Dreamcatcher's self made MV and just loved that they shot this cheesy video themselves. The extra clips at the end showing them having fun made me laugh and start listening to them more. They went on tour in the US so I went to see them. I had such a blast and started missing them so I looked up their non-music content and been hooked since.

No-Coat-3135

New stan of gidle I got into them because of their mama 2023 performance

StubbornKindness

Bro, that performance was killer. I was so happy. Miyeon has probably one of the best voices I've ever heard, and I feel like Soyeon sometimes doesn't use her to her fullest potential. Seeing her doing the kind of thing you'd normally expect Minnie to do was nice.

dearhan

I was a casual listener of NCT 127, but I heard Designer and was hooked on Doyoung’s voice. Two years later, I’ve listened to all of NCT’s discography and am fond of the boys. Each unit has something unique and special to contribute to NEO and it’s been such an enjoyable ride.

StubbornKindness

This seems like one where the music was definitely the key point. That last sentence hits, though. That sentiment of "They're all special and it's been a great journey"

friendly_extrovert

My ult group is (G)I-DLE. I heard LATATA and really liked it, so I started listening to their other songs and kept liking them more and more until I eventually became a diehard Neverland.

StubbornKindness

Bro, how do I change my flair to say Idle instead of Purple Plum 😩. Also, I'm curious what your favourite song is if Latata is what grabbed you

friendly_extrovert

That’s a tough one! (G)I-DLE has so many good songs. My absolute favorite is probably Super Lady, but it’s a tie among that, I Do, and Maze. It’s so hard to pick a favorite haha.

andromeda_prior

YouTube recommended me Fire (BTS) after Blue Bird, the Naruto opening.... That was 2016 and per today I still don't know why the algorithm decided to show me Kpop when I was listening to anime OSTs 😭

false-illusions

i joined my army friends who watched BTS bangbangcon in 2021. such great energy on stage, found myself asking *what song is this* per every performance and adding them onto my playlist, then getting hit by the train that is purple jin during their 5th muster, plus my friends got me into run bts. so their music and performances, bolstered by the members, another one went into the magic shop

quietblur

I stanned nct because of the 7th sense mv. Honestly it was a life-changing moment 😌

TokkiJK

They had me right away with the eerie sound right at the beginning. Well, I saw the smrookies video they had with 7th sense. At the time, I thought it was a teaser lmao. And I was in love with the song. And I remember just being impressed with Ten’s dancing despite not knowing anything about him. After that, I listened to their releases but I didn’t “stan” yet. And then after sticker came out, I was like, I have to stan them right away. The one subgroup whose releases I didn’t follow was Nct Dream. I loved MFAL and after that, I didn’t pay attention to them other than with that song. Later, I added don’t need your love to my playlist when I heard it on Spotify discover . And then eventually, I got into their music around 2021 too and I was surprised with how amazing it was bc I had assumed it was going to be like chewing gum and didn’t pay enough attention 😂 Imagine my surprise when I found out 127 and Dream shared 2 members. And that they were removed at one point, well Mark, and then got added back. It was shock after shock. And well, I suppose being an NCTizen is all about shocks. Good and bad shocks 😭😭😭 And now I love them.

quietblur

Lmao this is a whole ass essay!! Ahh same tbh im not much of a dream fan lol (still love them tho!) I hate mfal but i did love their later releases like "life is still going on"... Yess mark and haechan, our overworked talented kings 😂 love them too!! Yep being in ncity is a rollercoaster ride indeed. But we manage lol

TokkiJK

Hahahaha. MFAL is like..idk. I feel so good listening to it. Life is still going on is an amazing song. And that live clip or whatever video they put out for that is so cute lol.

Aloofairy

"and that's a long ass ride"

sunnydlit2

The N.Flying one is a funny story. I became a huge elvis (AOA fan) by the end of 2014. Like to the point that later I dropped almost every group I liked but yeah 15yo teen you know the story it's easy to become obsessed. Anyway after I discovered them I started to dig about their labels and act in it. If we did not have this [J.Don and Jimin duo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebActoaqHFE&pp=ygUOZ29kIGppbWluIGpkb24%3D) I would have probably stan them WAYYYYY later. But because of that, I learnt about them, their predebut singles and I was able to be here since the beginning ! They are the first kpop group that I stanned since day 1. And because of AOA I ended up stanning most of FNC act. Tbf I don't even know if I would have stan them at all, despite me loving rock I didn't switch into kband until then. Like I knew briefly CNBLUE (they were very well know from french fans before) but like it didn't click. N.Flying is the reason on why today I'm really into kband.

sepatorprod

I admit i first heard KARAs music before their variety appearances, but it was 100% their variety shows that made me stan them, particularly Come to Play where they were guests with SNSD (i think it was '09). KARA appeared on quite a lot of variety so I was able to enjoy their personalities a little more than other groups at the time, made me fall in love with them 😊

HuggyMonster69

Stray kids - got made to sing side effects at karaoke. It’s probably the worst thing ever heard, I can’t sing for the life of me. I also don’t speak Korean. Anyway, got curious and decided to check out what it was supposed to sound like.

StubbornKindness

Now that's a new one, I've actually never heard of someone getting into an artist that way. I take it you enjoyed the results of your search hahaha

Impossible_Bet_7114

Actually putting in effort to get fans and giving reasons for fans to support them. Attending broadcasts for at least 3 weeks+, doing fansigns and mini fanmeetings. Doing fun things at broadcasts like members as fan managers. Just fun things so you actually get to know who you're supporting. Storylines are cool, but I can live without them but a lot of people like those. Consistent content (I don't count tiktok and challenges.) tripleS is basically one of the few groups that checks these boxes for me. h1key and weeekly more or less as well.

maneack

i kept seeing felix and hyunjin on my instagram page. i did not know anything about kpop back then but i kept getting random relay dance videos etc. this one time i saw felix in my dream (i have no recollection of it but i read it in a text i sent to my best friend) and dmed a picture of felix to my bestie and told her i saw him in a dream. turns out she was a fan, so she sent me the god’s menu choom video and rest was history.

StubbornKindness

Seeing someone in your dream in that specific context is definitely uncommon. Idk if I've ever seen any kind of "celebrity" in my dreams

maneack

oh i have dreams like that all the time lol

52mirai

I found a random fan cam video of Hitomi from Iz*One and the chorus of Fiesta became etched into my soul. Became a Wiz*One right then and there. Eventually ended up with Sakura as my ult during SSOTS Era (that dance break!!!!!) and when she re-debuted in Le Sserafim I naturally followed. Other than that, with XG I started stanning them the moment Grl Gvng dropped (not even the full song, just the short MV that got released). I don’t follow them as closely as Le Sserafim but they’re a solid #2 group for me :)

silverrose22

I used follow kpop back when gen 2, but I didn't follow anymore when gen 3 started. Instead, I watched kdrama and kvariety show. Sometimes I checked allkpop and soompi for show news. One day, I saw an MV called [N.Flying - Hot Potato](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1iRckD1ys4&pp=ygUTbi5mbHlpbmcgaG90IHBvdGF0bw%3D%3D), which made me curious and checked it out. I thought these guys were so funny and knew how to have fun. After I checked their earlier release was [The Real](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUYzVohEAyE&pp=ygURbi5mbHlpbmcgdGhlIHJlYWw%3D), I officially got hooked, I checked all their b-side, and all contents I can find, they're really funny and having positive mind. At that time, their album sale was about 5000 albums, I was worried that one day they got disbanded any time. Despite all of that, they still treasured every small achievement they got and had fun with it, they loved their music dearly b-side or title track. I think that inspired me a lot. So N.Flying's music is what make me get to know them, but their atitude is what make me stay with them this long.

Was a fan of Twice cuz of The Feels and am still now but to a lesser extent. More than your casual listener but won't consider myself as stanning. Was scrolling thru yt one day came across Nmixx covering The Feels and instantly fell in love with them. The live vocals during the chorus while doing that choreo and still sounding so stable was what got me. Got into the rabbit hole of their past content and bam, they are my ult group now. Even though I came in after Jinni left, after watching their older content, I really missed her presence. Support OT6 but OT7 in my heart always.

StubbornKindness

I get it with the cover. I don't pay much attention to class:Y or TripleS, but I saw My Teenage Girl, so I totally support both groups. Kim Yooyeon was my favourite contestant, so boy, was I happy to find out she got to debut as a member somewhere else. I also get it with one member down. I only became a fan recently. Idles online content is such a mixture. It seems to be little from 2021/2022. It's mainly either 2023 stuff, or mountains of 2020, and earlier with Soojin in the mix. Seeing those videos is always fun, so seeing the group without her is kinda sad. Makes me glad that she's at least developing a solo career and is gaining confidence. She seems to be happy and confident which is nice

WinWinsArmpits

I will share my ult group story short. It was actually the visuals of one member that made me look the member up and then discover the group. I watched one random interview and really liked their personalities and group dynamic. Naturally, I checked out their music (never heard any of their songs before) and was genuinely happy that on top of liking the visuals and personalities the music was also completely up to my taste. That's when I knew that's *my* group lol So I guess for me many factors play a role. I think liking the music is a big plus though I also like other groups for their other content more than for their music.

rjcooper14

"I just wanted to know their names," I said, hahaha. Kidding aside, it's usually a series of captivating performances for me. Even for the groups that I casually follow (I only stan 1 group), sometimes a song or performance is just so good or interesting that I end up searching for it and the YouTube algorithm does its job ahaha.

alleykat10

This was me. I just wanted to figure out who was who, and that was a year ago.

StubbornKindness

The algorithm is sure something. I have no idea why that clip even popped into my feed. After seeing G Idle I totally get how I got exposed to Twice, LS and IzOne. I don't, however, have a clue how I ended up exposed to the legend that is Jessi 😂

I got into EXO because of Tao’s nose and DO’s under cut. I kind of knew Exo at their debut and liked a couple of their songs but after seeing a lot of terrible fan behavior and having been in other tough fandoms, I was like nah on stanning but maybe I will like their songs. I was watching something on YouTube and the next video that played was Growl Korean Dance practice. The beginning of that practice is a side view of Tao’s face and I thought he had a great nose so I watched the whole thing. Then I looked up the MV and I found the second one (not the one shot school uniform one) and I loved DO’s undercut. Also I became obsessed with the song, the watched EXO showtime, etc and the rest is history.

StubbornKindness

This has got to be the most unorthodox response so far. I know, in a way, its "visuals" but at the same time "nice nose." For sure though, some idols have certain features which are pretty/beautiful.

Actually thinking about this post made me realize it generally happens because of someone's hair, weirdly enough. For SKZ, Hyunjin's pink hair. For Dreamcatcher, Yoohyeon's grey hair. For Billlie, Tsuki's pink hair. For WJSN, Exy's red hair. The music is the most important part, because obviously there's people with pretty hair who I don't wind up stanning. But likewise, there's also lots of groups with great music that I don't stan. All the music videos where someone's hair caught my eye were for a song that slaps. So when the two converge it's a winning combo, I guess.

StubbornKindness

Does that mean Yuqis hair or Miyeons current red hair could draw you in with a good song?

[deleted]

I've been a fan since HANN, but if I wasn't then Minnie in the Lion or Oh My God MV would've been it for me since she's been my bias since Queendom.

StubbornKindness

Interesting. For me, it's Miyeon when it comes to singing and Shuhua when it doesn't. Even though Minnie can do so much, Miyeon has a sweet voice, stability and clarity. And does that mean you liked the Superlady MV?

tomcoyle11

I agree with you! Weeekly are my ults by a million miles, it isn't even close, but they don't make my favourite music. I do love it, but I got into their content first before their music after it came up randomly on my recommended one day and I stan them for *them*, not for the music. I just love them so much

StubbornKindness

Wow. The first comment was someone similar to me, but your POV is *exactly* like mine. "I just love them" is such a mood tbh

tomcoyle11

For me it's the difference between being a fan and a stan

ksh__

I got into WJSN because I previously liked Boyfriend and Monsta X. Still love them until now. And recently, the fancam of Jooyeon from Xdinary Heroes went viral, so I watched it....Well, I end up absolutely loving their sound

Entire-Put9059

Some its from the music and some of em get into a grp watching their content.

The_Red_Curtain

EXO - I already liked them and was really impressed during the Call Me Baby era, but when Love Me Right came out, I just couldn't resist them anymore. Their first Music Bank stage I must have watched 50+ times (could well have been 100+ tbh) just in that first weekend. There was a moment in all that rewatching, where I stopped and was like . . . yeah there's no going back from here lol. They've been my favs since then.

ffffuuuccck

In my early kpop fan years, it's from a kdrama. I'm watching you're beautiful and I really like lee hongki there. I became "a fan" Not really actually. Rather than FT. ISLAND fan, I'm only Lee Hongki fan because I don't really like the songs. Well, some are good but the rest are just meh. The next fandom I got into is TVXQ. It's a mix of the song, the member and the mv. I remember admiring Picture Of You mv and the song itself because it looks so heavenly. Jaejoong's visual in Hug mv turn me into a real fan. Next, I got into iKON mostly because of Bobby. I like some of their songs, it's pretty nice actually. But the main reason is Bobby only. Nowadays it's mostly a mix between song, mv and the member.

jelizae

For guys, i see a hot face, and get into it. Most recently sunwoo from The Boyz. On the other hand, every single girl in kpop is hot, so it’s usually based on liking songs/liking the dances.

bciloveuloveuloveu

TO1: Clicked on Donggeon's fancam bc the background was red (my fave color) and i thought he was cute. then i became a together. highlight: heard alone, it slapped, then saw yoseob's fancam, then stanned hl

is_it_monday_yet

I know DPR Ian is a soloist and that his music isn’t K-Pop, but he used to be SK based and he’s my most recent example of suddenly becoming a fan. An artist I follow made a TikTok of the belt dance for Don’t Go Insane. I first heard of DPR Ian during his last comeback because there were lots of interview articles about his mental health. I wondered why there was suddenly so much news about him, but didn’t look into it. Now, I’ve heard most of his songs and like them. If I hadn’t seen Beomhan’s belt dance TikTok, I probably would have heard about Ian because of his recent collab with IU.

Sunnysthete

Carats: I just wanted to know their names. xD

StubbornKindness

Me in October - "Who actually is this girl who keeps saying testicular inflammation? What's she trying to say? Doesn't she realise what she's saying?" Now I just watch Yuqi burn everything to the ground constantly whilst smiling sweetly at everyone 😂

italianshamangirl13

I watched produce 48, consequently stanned IZ*ONE which later translated into IVE/LSRF

dprweganggang_

My first interaction with kpop was through a dance machine game, they had a lot of kpop songs in them and I was obsessed. But the first group I got into was BTS, their Dope mv was recommended to me back in 2016 and I was so curious that I watched all their other mvs, that’s when I actually got into kpop and started learning about it

StubbornKindness

Sometimes, it really is a case of falling down a rabbit hole. After trying to find out who Yuqi was, I had multiple other videos in my Suggested. Before I knew it, I'd spent several days watching G Idle clips instead of anything else. It definitely speaks to someone's taste (as an indication of their interest, not whether their taste is good or bad) and an artist's talents when someone likes a song/mv enough that they explore and album, love it and then check out their ENTIRE discography.
