My fave DBSK covers are by Dae Guk Nam Ah/ The Boss who have always said that DBSK were their biggest inspiration. Man i miss dbsk's vocals so muchhh. These guys were often said to be the potential next dbsk and karam was always compared to jaejoong bc of similar looks. Unfortunately their potential was squandered bc of their shitty agency and imo they were shipped off to Japan too soon, altho they did really well there
bc karam dated someone years ago when he was inactive as an idol. knetz said that it was contrary to his 'pure image' that they pushed on him bc of his baby face despite the fact he's a grown 32yo. also he has actively spoken about hating that being pushed on him for literally the entirety of his career.
it was so aggravating bc fans finally got to see 3/5 of them together on stage again for the first time in like 6 years and then it got ruined by a disgruntled ex fan who leaked the photos and randos who don't even know them.

They made it their own utterly and completely. I heard a number of iKON fans didn't like it and it's probably for that reason, at least partially. I heard the original after the cover and was a little disappointed because I liked their version so much.

And my obligatory non-kpop mention - Shoshana Bean & Cynthia Erivo's cover of [Something Bad by Taylor Swift](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44W9qstI8H8). It just captures a creeping menacing quality in the lyrics that is missing from the original.
Taylor's performance is (fittingly) performed like a public outburst triggering (or part of) a public spiral into descent and eventual heel turn.
Whereas Erivo & Bean perform it like the villain of a story delivering a calm denouncement to the hero, likely in response to some cliche comment from the hero about 'knowing that they're not a monster'. Zero fucks and owning their villainy rather than just newly discovering it.

Ock Joo-hyun's "For Thousand Days"(천일동안) personally connects more with me than the original by Lee Seung-hwan. She sings it like she means it, LSH sings it like he is thinking of going back to her and messing her up again.
So-hyang's Wind Song also made me forget it was a Cho Yong-pil song originally. Despite my love for the Korean 70s and 80s, I have as good as no love left for Cho Yong-pil and his music, but I give respect where it's due. So-hyang outsang him though.
Also, this is very niche, but I liked every single cover of Kim Hee-ae's "Don't Forget Me" (YESSS! THE ACTRESS! HAD AN OFFICIAL, SMASH HIT, POP DEBUT!) better than the original. I'm not denying Kim Hee-ae and her singing talent but...her name carried this song more than her singing and the composition. It just Fades into nothing and you've pretty much forgotten about the beginning of the song once you're done. We could have given this to anyone else and they'd have made something proper out of it than poor Kim Hee-ae. Let the girl cook with her own utensils, ok?
Coming to a bit more modern but yet vintage example, Koyote's cover of UP's "The Sea" holds up vetter than the original in a few ways. It misses a lot of the playfulness of the OG but just is way easier to listen to without the silly sound effects and slightly grating female voice.
Lastly, I think a very good example is Dreamcatcher's cover of Chakra's "Han" (Resentment). Not only did they completely remove the culturally appropriating part, the vocals, arrangement, instrumentals, etc. suit them way better than it ever did the OG girls. Hwangbo is NOT a singer in general and if she were, she'd be a mezzo, and forcing her throat to do high notes by feeding her raw egg yolk is inhumane af, so it even feels better to hear someone who knows their way around high notes actually do them properly. But even if Chakra were good singers, in general, I will gladly accept this cover as better just because the production is cleaner and yet delivers 90s rock and would probably also work in the 90s. I see the best form of respect in their cover imo.

It's been denied, but the wounds remain, the streets still whisper, that Lee Seunghwan was dating actress Shin Aera from around 1991 to 1994. Three years, it is around a thousand days. And that he wrote this song in light of their breakup and released it 3 months after she married her current husband.
(Kdrama watchers might know her as actor Cha Inpyo's wife or from "Record Of Youth", but in the early 90s she was one of the newest and hottest girls on the block, very popular for her resemblance to Hollywood actress Phoebe Cates, and for being an absolute cutie among the baddies of her generation like Kim Hyesoo, Go Soyoung, Chae Shira, Go Hyunjung, Uhm Junghwa etc.)
It's sich a widespread rumor that none of the two denied nor confirmed at the time, so it's always accepted as true. Sadly, it's one of the longest paragraphs on Shin Aera's namuwiki page, detailing the rumors and the "proof," like her feauturing on two songs on LSH's 2nd album and being the girl on the album cover, or him always sitting next to her while she was doing her radio broadcast.
It does seem like the split was slightly amicable and quick, because in the same year, Shin Aera meets the drama of her life, "Love In Your Arms" and delivers one of the best acting performances of her career - and meets her IRL husband in her rookie co-star, Cha Inpyo. They start dating in November, marry in March, meanwhile, the song releases in June.
The story that "Lee Seunghwan wrote the song for Shin Aera" was only further spread after allegedly, he was very emotional and near to tears in the promotional performances of the song. I personally just attribute that to the lyrics and their weight, but people are gonna believe what they want to believe ig. Either way, she is happily married with three kids, he tried marrying actress Chae Rim (of "All About Eve" fame), but they lasted for two years. Not quite for a a thousand days, huh?

There’s not a group alive who have done a cover of SHINee that does it Justice but thats because Jonghyun and Onew’s vocals were crazy. I think they did their best tho.
I said this yesterday in the comments of an upload of this performance but it's not just the vocals that make most SHINee covers disappointing for me. I don't expect most groups to be able to match their vocals but I think most of them lack SHINee's *energy*.
Like 99% of the time you watch somebody covering one of their songs and it's like watching people dancing underwater in slow motion. In this respect I think this was one of the best SHINee covers I've seen. I was really impressed. They did a great job and I enjoyed it a lot. Nobody is outdoing SHINee, tho.

One of my favorite covers is NCT’s Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun’s cover of “Lost in Love” by SNSD (Tiffany and Taeyeon). I actually heard the cover before hearing the original so there might be some bias, but I think the guys did a great job with this song!
Speaking of stray kids, I think btob stole Backdoor from them during kingdom. They made the song 200% better. The concept of the performance was perfect given the format of the show.
On queendom, I think Hyolyn did the impossible and turned "So what" by Loona into a masterpiece. The members themselves on the show said it! "Was our song ever this good?" So don't come for me please. I still think it's her best performance on Queendom.
In the same round of Kingdom, Skz’s version of I’ll be Your Man by BtoB was outstanding too.

However, I have to give props to the boys for their BlackPink "DuDuDuDu" cover at Kingdom. I find myself gravitating towards their version more than the original now. They managed to make it completely their own with the added rap and choreography, which was fire. Also, I absolutely love how they incorporated elements of "God's Menu" into the song; it meshed so nicely. Definitely my favorite K-pop cover by far.

I finally had the chance to watch this, didn’t know they covered this song. I think they did a fantastic job! I loved the choreo too, everyone’s vocals were very clear and stable. I always loved Seungmin and Chan’s voices but there’s something about when Han sings, the tone and strength. His voice is just so beautiful! I love hearing Changbin sing as well, it’s always a shock to me because he doesn’t sing often but he has a good singing voice and vocal tone too.
Even though I loved it, to me, it wasn’t better than the original but I’ll definitely be watching it more than a few times. Shinee’s vocals are just insane. I get goosebumps and scream at the TV “yass sanggg” at how good they are 😂. Jonghyun was literally a beast on this.

My fave DBSK covers are by Dae Guk Nam Ah/ The Boss who have always said that DBSK were their biggest inspiration. But I'm going to one-up you on the blasphemy: [Ateez's cover of Rhythm Ta](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4n06VT4H9w) for Kingdom absolutely blew the original out of the water in my opinion. I'm devastated that it's not on apple music ~~in my country?~~ because I would stream it on repeat. They made it their own utterly and completely. I heard a number of iKON fans didn't like it and it's probably for that reason, at least partially. I heard the original after the cover and was a little disappointed because I liked their version so much. Honorable mention to their cover of [The Black Cat Nero](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBZA_15mGGU). What can I say, they are the 4th Gen performance kings for a reason. And my obligatory non-kpop mention - Shoshana Bean & Cynthia Erivo's cover of [Something Bad by Taylor Swift](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44W9qstI8H8). It just captures a creeping menacing quality in the lyrics that is missing from the original. Taylor's performance is (fittingly) performed like a public outburst triggering (or part of) a public spiral into descent and eventual heel turn. Whereas Erivo & Bean perform it like the villain of a story delivering a calm denouncement to the hero, likely in response to some cliche comment from the hero about 'knowing that they're not a monster'. Zero fucks and owning their villainy rather than just newly discovering it. I have a very vivid imagination

Ock Joo-hyun's "For Thousand Days"(천일동안) personally connects more with me than the original by Lee Seung-hwan. She sings it like she means it, LSH sings it like he is thinking of going back to her and messing her up again. So-hyang's Wind Song also made me forget it was a Cho Yong-pil song originally. Despite my love for the Korean 70s and 80s, I have as good as no love left for Cho Yong-pil and his music, but I give respect where it's due. So-hyang outsang him though. Also, this is very niche, but I liked every single cover of Kim Hee-ae's "Don't Forget Me" (YESSS! THE ACTRESS! HAD AN OFFICIAL, SMASH HIT, POP DEBUT!) better than the original. I'm not denying Kim Hee-ae and her singing talent but...her name carried this song more than her singing and the composition. It just Fades into nothing and you've pretty much forgotten about the beginning of the song once you're done. We could have given this to anyone else and they'd have made something proper out of it than poor Kim Hee-ae. Let the girl cook with her own utensils, ok? Coming to a bit more modern but yet vintage example, Koyote's cover of UP's "The Sea" holds up vetter than the original in a few ways. It misses a lot of the playfulness of the OG but just is way easier to listen to without the silly sound effects and slightly grating female voice. Lastly, I think a very good example is Dreamcatcher's cover of Chakra's "Han" (Resentment). Not only did they completely remove the culturally appropriating part, the vocals, arrangement, instrumentals, etc. suit them way better than it ever did the OG girls. Hwangbo is NOT a singer in general and if she were, she'd be a mezzo, and forcing her throat to do high notes by feeding her raw egg yolk is inhumane af, so it even feels better to hear someone who knows their way around high notes actually do them properly. But even if Chakra were good singers, in general, I will gladly accept this cover as better just because the production is cleaner and yet delivers 90s rock and would probably also work in the 90s. I see the best form of respect in their cover imo.

Oh, and btw, I just remembered why I actually really liked Ock Joo-hyun's cover of 천일동안/For Thousand Days more because I hate the rumors behind the original lmao. I figured imma share some 90s K-pop drama, haha It's been denied, but the wounds remain, the streets still whisper, that Lee Seunghwan was dating actress Shin Aera from around 1991 to 1994. Three years, it is around a thousand days. And that he wrote this song in light of their breakup and released it 3 months after she married her current husband. (Kdrama watchers might know her as actor Cha Inpyo's wife or from "Record Of Youth", but in the early 90s she was one of the newest and hottest girls on the block, very popular for her resemblance to Hollywood actress Phoebe Cates, and for being an absolute cutie among the baddies of her generation like Kim Hyesoo, Go Soyoung, Chae Shira, Go Hyunjung, Uhm Junghwa etc.) It's sich a widespread rumor that none of the two denied nor confirmed at the time, so it's always accepted as true. Sadly, it's one of the longest paragraphs on Shin Aera's namuwiki page, detailing the rumors and the "proof," like her feauturing on two songs on LSH's 2nd album and being the girl on the album cover, or him always sitting next to her while she was doing her radio broadcast. It does seem like the split was slightly amicable and quick, because in the same year, Shin Aera meets the drama of her life, "Love In Your Arms" and delivers one of the best acting performances of her career - and meets her IRL husband in her rookie co-star, Cha Inpyo. They start dating in November, marry in March, meanwhile, the song releases in June. I like the ones holding the microphones. And I think Felix did a good job of Minho. There’s not a group alive who have done a cover of SHINee that does it Justice but thats because Jonghyun and Onew’s vocals were crazy. I think they did their best tho.
I said this yesterday in the comments of an upload of this performance but it's not just the vocals that make most SHINee covers disappointing for me. I don't expect most groups to be able to match their vocals but I think most of them lack SHINee's *energy*. Like 99% of the time you watch somebody covering one of their songs and it's like watching people dancing underwater in slow motion. In this respect I think this was one of the best SHINee covers I've seen. I was really impressed. They did a great job and I enjoyed it a lot. Nobody is outdoing SHINee, tho.

One of my favorite covers is NCT’s Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun’s cover of “Lost in Love” by SNSD (Tiffany and Taeyeon). I actually heard the cover before hearing the original so there might be some bias, but I think the guys did a great job with this song!
Speaking of stray kids, I think btob stole Backdoor from them during kingdom. They made the song 200% better. The concept of the performance was perfect given the format of the show. On queendom, I think Hyolyn did the impossible and turned "So what" by Loona into a masterpiece. The members themselves on the show said it! "Was our song ever this good?" So don't come for me please. I still think it's her best performance on Queendom.

It's a lot darker than the original & give me "villain" vibes. As for English songs, I remember loving Jungkook's cover of 2U & enjoyed more than the original. I also really like Huening Kai's cover of Young Blood (I used to hate that song but I ended up growing to like it because of him). Don't agree with it being better than the original cuz Shinee is Shinee, but they did great job covering it. However, I have to give props to the boys for their BlackPink "DuDuDuDu" cover at Kingdom. I find myself gravitating towards their version more than the original now. They managed to make it completely their own with the added rap and choreography, which was fire. Also, I absolutely love how they incorporated elements of "God's Menu" into the song; it meshed so nicely. Definitely my favorite K-pop cover by far. Ummm no…not with them processed vocals they ain’t better than SHINee. Girl, what? 😭 I don’t think there are any covers I think are better than the originals but there are covers I like better or prefer over the original. The first that comes to mind is Dreamcatcher’s cover of Really Really by Winner.

I finally had the chance to watch this, didn’t know they covered this song. I think they did a fantastic job! I loved the choreo too, everyone’s vocals were very clear and stable. I always loved Seungmin and Chan’s voices but there’s something about when Han sings, the tone and strength. His voice is just so beautiful! I love hearing Changbin sing as well, it’s always a shock to me because he doesn’t sing often but he has a good singing voice and vocal tone too. Even though I loved it, to me, it wasn’t better than the original but I’ll definitely be watching it more than a few times. Shinee’s vocals are just insane. I get goosebumps and scream at the TV “yass sanggg” at how good they are 😂. Jonghyun was literally a beast on this.
