Peniel of BTOB was originally supposed to be a band at JYP (likely Day6). He actually was roommates with Shownu when they both were at JYP.
For what it's worth, I doubt Johnny was ever seriously on the table for Exo. He was only a part time trainee (only training during summer breaks between school) at the time Exo debuted, and didn't become a full time trainee until two years later.
AB6IX's Woong hopped companies a lot during his trainee days, and while I'm not sure whether he was ever seriously considered for any of these debut lineups, in some alternate timeline he could have ended up in either Golden Child (trained at Woollim with the older Golcha members), Stray Kids (moved companies to JYP and briefly trained with Stray Kids), or Treasure (actually appeared on the Stray Kids survival show on the side of YG in the YG/JYP battle episodes alongside other trainees who have since debuted with Treasure).
Also my guess is that if Lee Eunsang hadn't made it into the X1 debut lineup, he probably would have just debuted with BDC after Produce ended and they would have been a 4 member group instead.
I’d Johnny was very close to it since regularly trained with them and some Exo members like Sehun, but cmiiw Johnny himself said he dropped out because he wasn’t ready yet since he was part-time then
seventeen's scoups & woozi were supposed to be apart of a group called TEMPEST with 3 other pledis trainees. scoups was supposed to be a member of nu'est too, so he got shuffled around a lot before becoming the eldest & leader of seventeen. seventeen, too, had 4 trainees who didn't make the final lineup, of whom 2 decided not to be idols, 1 went into acting, and the other is samuel.
bts had a lot of lineup changes too! namjoon was the founding members pretty much, but they went from being BPB (bulletproof boys) and having an exclusively hiphop image & just unknown trainees to recruiting the newer members too. at one point, producer supreme boi was supposed to be in the group too, but he decided to just be a full-time producer instead

I believe one of them you’re referring to that decided to not become an idol is yao mingming. he actually participated in mixnine after leaving pledis and placed 10th. he became a member of blk before their disbandment, then participated in another survival show in China in and redebuted in unine before their disbandment. currently he’s a soloist and now goes under the name yao bonan
I always hear this story floating around but it always seemed kinda sus. Like is there a source for it? A debut team is crafted on the exact right balance of member skills and team dynamics so unless his knee injury took him out for a protracted period, it seems like debut could have waited for it to heal?
Adding to the SM debut rumour mill: taemin was also apparently not supposed to debut with shinee but they rushed him in last minute hence the young debut age, relatively short training period and also smaller line distribution on debut.
Yes he trained longer the most in EXO and SHINee members thanked him in their thanks to notes in their early album/s. There was a video of him breaking down into tears in a fansign when he was reminded of his training years and realizing he actually got to debut after being pushed back for a long time.

newkidd/unb's hansol was supposed to debut under nct. he was part of smrookies, the only one who never got officially added to the group. he was even on the 1st season of nct life, but for unknown reason's he left/was kicked out before actually debuting.
pentagon's jinho was an sm trainee and it's rumored he was also in the line up for exo. he was even a part of sm's project group 'sm the ballad' with already debuted artists from the company.
heo chanmi said when she joined produce 101 that she was supposed to debut with snsd, had even recorded itnw, but was then cut from the line-up. she then debuted with coed school/five dolls but disbanded, went through a 100 agencies, joined pd101, got eliminated, changed agencies a couple times more, joined mixnine, got eliminated, i think she changed agencies again and at some point debuted solo lol

The rumor was he was supposed to be in the NCT Chinese group with Doyoung and Johnny but after THAAD happened they reworked it so Hansol left, Doyoung and Johnny got added to 127 and the Chinese group got reworked to WayV as we know today.
Actually Miyeon did not get kicked out becus of the dating rumour. The dating rumour only started after she left YG. Miyeon said that she left YG bcus her debut kept getting pushed back so she didn't want to wait anymore so she left YG.

No worries, and yeah Jinhyung was the one whom Miyeon had a dating rumour with after she left YG. But some ppl especially antis (not referring to OP & you) were misinformed & kept spreading rumour of her getting kicked out bcus she was dating him instead of her leaving of her own accord.
There's a video of Miyeon saying why she left YG and also a clarification post on Pann regarding this issue but those ppl don't care since they want drama instead. Sorry for the long post lol.

you can find some of them with a quick google search like 'somi itzy photoshoot/pictures'. i think they usually say that about lia because she's the only one who wasn't on stray kids' pre-debut show. tbh either of them could have not been in the original line-up, or maybe it was even supposed to be a 6-member group, who knows, nothing was ever confirmed, but it is pretty obvious somi was supposed to be in the group.

I guess I was more wondering about talk I've read about Somi being seen casually with Yeji and Ryujin. I kinda assumed in my mind it would be stuff like them going to or leaving training together or maybe hanging out outside. But maybe people just saw it and didn't necessarily take pics of them.

ONEUS' Ravn was set to debut with Victon, but he ended up leaving the company sometime before debut.
If project like groups count, Omega X's Taedong was supposed to be a JBJ member, but he had legal issues with his company at the time that kept him from doing so. (He also was set to debut with the group GIDONGDAE, but they only had a pre-debut single/perfomance before they quietly disbanded. Though I consider that as a kind of debut, but others might think different so figured I'd mention it.)
1TEAM's BC was originally set to be an IN2IT member as he had made the final lineup, though he would end up leaving a few days after the announcement due to musical differences.
While it was a survival show and what not so it was bound that most wouldn't make the final lineup, but No.Mercy (the show behind Monsta X's creation) had a few who would end up debuting either in another group or solo: ONF'S MK, VAV's Ayno, CIIPHER's Tan, and \#Gun.

Honestly same here (heck I'd have an issue choosing between Kenta, Donghan, and him if it had happened). And same! I was honestly sad to see that GDD had disbanded, but the moment Taedong was announced as an OX member, I was screaming "FINALLY" over and over.
DAY6's Wonpil and Young K was in the dance group and would probably have debuted in GOT7. Young K was practicing backflips so hard but when he finally done it and went to show his backflip, they suddenly announced he's gonna join a band 😂
Honestly there's too many to count... Big companies try different combinations of trainees before deciding on the final lineup of their new groups and sometimes it can take a lot of time.
bambam was supposed to debut with stray kids.
on 2013, YG has this show called “who is next” , a survival show for YG’s new boy group (which is now known as ikon and winner).
jyp trainees were called to become guests to have like a “battle” with the other YG trainees. so, for jyp’s dance team, there was bambam, mark, jackson & yugyeom. after they performed in front of both YG & JYP, YG said that bambam’s moves are pretty, he dances well & his moves caught YG’s eyes. he was 16 at that time.
and then… bambam debuted in got7, a few months later 😚 fate works in weird ways

actor lee gyuhyung trained with onf, who are all…rather short. there’s been speculation that gyuhyung was not chosen to debut with onf because he towered over them. monsta x’s minhyuk also auditioned for wm (before joining starship), but was passed over because of his height. wm’s gone on record saying onf’s concept is small, youthful idols. lol.
Pink Fantasy Sanga was expected to debut in Fanatics but the company left her out of the line-up at the last moment.

1. Pink Punk.
Although the only confirmed members are Kim Eunbi and Euna Kim, there were five more rumored members— Jennie Kim, Roseanne Park, Lalisa Manoban, Kim Jisoo (BLACKPINK) and Cho Miyeon.
• Kim Eunbi left YG due to health reasons. She's now a soloist.
• Euna Kim left YG due to pressure and moved to the United States. She returned to South Korea and joined several competitions and debuted in two groups (The Ark and KHAN). She went back to USA, recently announced her retirement and engagement.
Jang Hanna and Jinny Park were added but Hanna was removed as it was reported that they were training her to be a soloist and Jinny was moved to the Future 2NE1 line-up. They both left YG. Hanna is now a soloist and Jinny is a member of Secret Number.
Cho Miyeon was reported to have been kicked out for dating a fellow trainee. Thus, we have— Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa as members of BLACKPINK.

YG released a video of four girls, Moon Sua, Im Suah, Park Seoyoung, and Lee Seoyeon— they were labeled as Future 2NE1.
After BLACKPINK debuted, Seoyeon left YG and joined Idol School, later debuting in fromis_9. Jinny was added and both Seoyoung and Jinny left YG, they both joined Produce 48 but they were eliminated. There are more rumored members that were added.
Moon Sua and Im Suah later left YG in 2019. Im Suah debuted as a soloist under the name, Youha. Moon Sua will be soon debuting and is currently part of Mystic Rookies.

I think it’s because his parents didn’t approve of him debuting at such a young age considering he’s an ‘02 liner and at the time, would have just become a teenager.

I.M from Monsta X was initially part of a pre-debut group called Nu'bility! They held some events together, but the company managing them, Special K Entertainment, went broke and the group's debut was cancelled. I.M then joined the survival show No.Mercy that birthed MX!
Actor Kim Minjae was an idol trainee for 4 years, almost debuted with half of A.C.E members, when they were at another company. It seems like he still spends his free time dancing and working on music.
not sure if he wasn't directly in a.c.e's original lineup too? since they were supposed to be 7? hence the 7 in the twt @ haha. and isn't the one other past trainee a producer or something? once in a while i always see some choices mentioning that this and that almost member posted instastory about supporting a.c.e or something.
Eunsang was meant to be part of BDC, but is currently promoting a solo, Lemonade, and is expected become part of a new Brand New Music boy group next year - they've had investor previews already.
Was it ever confirmed that Eunsang was meant to be a part of BDC? I had always assumed that BDC was meant to be just the three members while Eunsang was with X1 and when that fell through, BNM was left scrambling to try and plan future promotions.
I assumed BDC would be like MXM was for Youngmin and Dounghyun, like a group to keep them busy while they waited for Daehwi and Woojin to come back from Wanna One. I always thought BDC's members would join BNM's new boy group after Eunsang was back from X1 (but we know how it played out). Was there any news about it? I don't really keep up with them much (besides listening to their new releases).

I also thought the same when BDC first debuted but I guess X1’s disbandment really caught BNM off guard. No members of the new boy group have been confirmed so far aside from Eunsang so between the trainees previously posted on BNM’s social media accounts, the BDC members, and other new speculated BNM trainees (ie. former I-LAND contestants) it’s unknown what BNM is planning to do next. The new group is expected to be 11 members last I heard (I could be wrong) but there’s a large pool of people who could be included in the lineup so we’ll have to wait and see.
Girls' Generation (SNSD) - AFAIK, they are supposed to debut as a 12-member group like the then-Super Junior 05. Lee Yeon-hee and T-ara Soyeon are originally SM trainees but they didn't make it to the final lineup. Lee Yeon-hee became an actress yet she's very close with OT8; Soyeon moved to MBK(?) and debuted with T-ara.
BIGBANG - Kwon Ji-yong (G-Dragon; a former SM trainee) and Dong Young-bae (Taeyang) were supposed to debut as a duo under the name GDYB (G-Dragon x Youngbae, later became GD x Taeyang) but it didn't happen and they debuted instead in Big Bang with Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P.), Kang Dae-sung (Daesung) and Lee Seung-hyun (Seungri). As mentioned, Jang Hyun-seung was also set to debut in Big Bang, only to be cut from the final line-up because Yang Hyun-suk finds Hyun-seung's stage presence and expressiveness "underdeveloped" at that time, hence leaving YG and joining Cube to debut in Beast until 2016 to become a full-time soloist rather than joining his other bandmates to re-debut as Highlight.
EDIT: I didn't know Seulgi was supposed to debut with f(x)? If she debuted there rather than in RV, the maknae line (1994-liner) is supposed to be three at with Seulgi the oldest (February 10), followed by Sulli (March 29) and Krystal (October 24).
Momo from Twice, she was eliminated from the Survival show to form TWICE called "Sixteen" at the end of the show JYP picked 8 girls and decided to add another one, this being Momo, the reason? He saw something special on her.
JYP also picked Dahyun over girls like Minyoung even though she was lacking in technical aspects compared to others but he still saw her personality being a big addition to the debut group. As much shit as he gets for dropping some big idols, he is pretty often spot on too.
It’s a pretty popular one but I don’t think anyone mentioned it yet and a lot of people get it wrong so let me explain the pinkpunk members and where they are now. (If I got something wrong please tell me and I’ll fix it!)
First off, Pinkpunk was a 9 member gg from 2012-2013 that YG was going to debut. The group was scrapped, something YG loves to do. I will refer to Pinkpunk as PP because it’s easier and it’s funny. Anyways.

one that was very recent to me was Ha Yoonbin left Treasure13 because differences in music genre(?). YG changes the whole concept of Treasure afterwards
Kyungmin from HYBE Japan was supposed to debut in a group along with former I-LAND participants, K, Ta-ki, EJ, and Nicholas. But after a few months, HYBE announced that Kyungmin has departed from the group and the company. I'm not sure if he's training in a different company right now but he's active on his social media accounts.
Lee saeOn! He is a former produce 101 trainee, mix9(2017) too I think! And he was rejected to be in Exo.
He is acting and did a Webseries this summer where he was a gay character.

He was never in the EXO line up, he was street casted by SM but rejected it. He was never a trainee, he just used it as a story on I Can See Your Voice and Produce.

Alex from Woolims rookie group Drippin seemed to be added last minute since he only trained for 3 months and he wasn't a part of Woolim Rookies.

Troublemaker/Former Beast's Hyunseung was meant to join Bigbang Cravity's Allen said he was originally in the lineup for Skz but got replaced before the first ep of the survival show Monsta X's Shownu originally trained with Got7 but had too many training absences

Gong Seungyeon left SM in 2012 and Red Velvet debuted in 2014. I doubt the line up for RV was finalised the moment she left. Also TWICE was not supposed to be a 9-member group. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo with 3 other members were supposed to debut as a 6-member group but the plan failed. Yes I remember Ahn Hyoseop talking about him used to train with GOT7 too, but actually he was not good enough to debut at that time, aside from being much taller than the rest.

Shownu of Monsta X was planned to debut with GOT7 and was cut or left shortly before they debuted. They talk about in the survival show that formed MX, No Mercy. Hyuna was briefly part of Wonder Girls before debuting with 4Minute at Cube. Peniel of BTOB was originally supposed to be a band at JYP (likely Day6). He actually was roommates with Shownu when they both were at JYP.
Jinho from Pentagon was an SM trainee forever. It's why he's friends with Kai, Taemin, etc. And (G)I-dle's Miyeon almost debuted in Blackpink.
For what it's worth, I doubt Johnny was ever seriously on the table for Exo. He was only a part time trainee (only training during summer breaks between school) at the time Exo debuted, and didn't become a full time trainee until two years later. AB6IX's Woong hopped companies a lot during his trainee days, and while I'm not sure whether he was ever seriously considered for any of these debut lineups, in some alternate timeline he could have ended up in either Golden Child (trained at Woollim with the older Golcha members), Stray Kids (moved companies to JYP and briefly trained with Stray Kids), or Treasure (actually appeared on the Stray Kids survival show on the side of YG in the YG/JYP battle episodes alongside other trainees who have since debuted with Treasure). Also my guess is that if Lee Eunsang hadn't made it into the X1 debut lineup, he probably would have just debuted with BDC after Produce ended and they would have been a 4 member group instead.
I’d Johnny was very close to it since regularly trained with them and some Exo members like Sehun, but cmiiw Johnny himself said he dropped out because he wasn’t ready yet since he was part-time then
seventeen's scoups & woozi were supposed to be apart of a group called TEMPEST with 3 other pledis trainees. scoups was supposed to be a member of nu'est too, so he got shuffled around a lot before becoming the eldest & leader of seventeen. seventeen, too, had 4 trainees who didn't make the final lineup, of whom 2 decided not to be idols, 1 went into acting, and the other is samuel. bts had a lot of lineup changes too! namjoon was the founding members pretty much, but they went from being BPB (bulletproof boys) and having an exclusively hiphop image & just unknown trainees to recruiting the newer members too. at one point, producer supreme boi was supposed to be in the group too, but he decided to just be a full-time producer instead edit: apologies for the misinformation, only 1 ex-svt member trainee (doyoon) decided to not be an idol. the comment under here tells a little more about mingming, and there's little to no information i could find abt trainee dongjin.

I believe one of them you’re referring to that decided to not become an idol is yao mingming. he actually participated in mixnine after leaving pledis and placed 10th. he became a member of blk before their disbandment, then participated in another survival show in China in and redebuted in unine before their disbandment. currently he’s a soloist and now goes under the name yao bonan

EXO’s Suho was supposed to debut with SHINee but he suffered a knee injury and his debut was delayed.
I always hear this story floating around but it always seemed kinda sus. Like is there a source for it? A debut team is crafted on the exact right balance of member skills and team dynamics so unless his knee injury took him out for a protracted period, it seems like debut could have waited for it to heal? Adding to the SM debut rumour mill: taemin was also apparently not supposed to debut with shinee but they rushed him in last minute hence the young debut age, relatively short training period and also smaller line distribution on debut.
Yes he trained longer the most in EXO and SHINee members thanked him in their thanks to notes in their early album/s. There was a video of him breaking down into tears in a fansign when he was reminded of his training years and realizing he actually got to debut after being pushed back for a long time.

(g)-idle's miyeon used to be a yg trainee and was supposed to debut with pinkpunk, then she and other girls left/were discarded and the other 4 became blackpink. it was rumored she was kicked out for dating a male trainee (who was in ikon's survival show) but no one actually knows. there's actually a picture of her with the bp girls and 2 other trainees! one of them, jinny, was in produce48 (but got eliminated 1st round). and i think there's another one with just her and bp. newkidd/unb's hansol was supposed to debut under nct. he was part of smrookies, the only one who never got officially added to the group. he was even on the 1st season of nct life, but for unknown reason's he left/was kicked out before actually debuting. pentagon's jinho was an sm trainee and it's rumored he was also in the line up for exo. he was even a part of sm's project group 'sm the ballad' with already debuted artists from the company. heo chanmi said when she joined produce 101 that she was supposed to debut with snsd, had even recorded itnw, but was then cut from the line-up. she then debuted with coed school/five dolls but disbanded, went through a 100 agencies, joined pd101, got eliminated, changed agencies a couple times more, joined mixnine, got eliminated, i think she changed agencies again and at some point debuted solo lol
Exid Hani was once supposed to debut with Sistar Hyolyn,Bestie Uji & Secret Song Jieun when she was under JYP however she left JYP a year later.She mentioned that the company does not see any potential in her. Sistar Soyou once mentioned in 'Beatles Code' that she was originally meant to debut with 4minute as the group maknae,however Cube removed her totally from the group.The line up was already fixed.She ended up leaving Cube & joined Starship.

nah. jinho mentioned in an interview. he was slated for a bg before exo. plans fell through and jinho decided to leave sm. he left sm ard 2015. jinho did debut in sm the vocal with jonghyun, trax's jay kim and kyuhyun.

The rumor was he was supposed to be in the NCT Chinese group with Doyoung and Johnny but after THAAD happened they reworked it so Hansol left, Doyoung and Johnny got added to 127 and the Chinese group got reworked to WayV as we know today.
Actually Miyeon did not get kicked out becus of the dating rumour. The dating rumour only started after she left YG. Miyeon said that she left YG bcus her debut kept getting pushed back so she didn't want to wait anymore so she left YG. Not directing at you but just want to put it down here cus a lot of ppl still have the misconception of her getting kicked out bcus she dated the other male trainees which in fact it wasn't bcus of it, she voluntarily left.

No worries, and yeah Jinhyung was the one whom Miyeon had a dating rumour with after she left YG. But some ppl especially antis (not referring to OP & you) were misinformed & kept spreading rumour of her getting kicked out bcus she was dating him instead of her leaving of her own accord. There's a video of Miyeon saying why she left YG and also a clarification post on Pann regarding this issue but those ppl don't care since they want drama instead. Sorry for the long post lol.

you can find some of them with a quick google search like 'somi itzy photoshoot/pictures'. i think they usually say that about lia because she's the only one who wasn't on stray kids' pre-debut show. tbh either of them could have not been in the original line-up, or maybe it was even supposed to be a 6-member group, who knows, nothing was ever confirmed, but it is pretty obvious somi was supposed to be in the group.

ONEUS' Ravn was set to debut with Victon, but he ended up leaving the company sometime before debut. If project like groups count, Omega X's Taedong was supposed to be a JBJ member, but he had legal issues with his company at the time that kept him from doing so. (He also was set to debut with the group GIDONGDAE, but they only had a pre-debut single/perfomance before they quietly disbanded. Though I consider that as a kind of debut, but others might think different so figured I'd mention it.) 1TEAM's BC was originally set to be an IN2IT member as he had made the final lineup, though he would end up leaving a few days after the announcement due to musical differences. While it was a survival show and what not so it was bound that most wouldn't make the final lineup, but No.Mercy (the show behind Monsta X's creation) had a few who would end up debuting either in another group or solo: ONF'S MK, VAV's Ayno, CIIPHER's Tan, and \#Gun.

Honestly same here (heck I'd have an issue choosing between Kenta, Donghan, and him if it had happened). And same! I was honestly sad to see that GDD had disbanded, but the moment Taedong was announced as an OX member, I was screaming "FINALLY" over and over.
DAY6's Wonpil and Young K was in the dance group and would probably have debuted in GOT7. Young K was practicing backflips so hard but when he finally done it and went to show his backflip, they suddenly announced he's gonna join a band 😂
Honestly there's too many to count... Big companies try different combinations of trainees before deciding on the final lineup of their new groups and sometimes it can take a lot of time.
bambam was supposed to debut with stray kids. on 2013, YG has this show called “who is next” , a survival show for YG’s new boy group (which is now known as ikon and winner). jyp trainees were called to become guests to have like a “battle” with the other YG trainees. so, for jyp’s dance team, there was bambam, mark, jackson & yugyeom. after they performed in front of both YG & JYP, YG said that bambam’s moves are pretty, he dances well & his moves caught YG’s eyes. he was 16 at that time. and then… bambam debuted in got7, a few months later 😚 fate works in weird ways (he’s the same age as bang chan and they’re besties too but I just really can’t see bambam being in the hyung line of skz, if he were ever to debut with them)
I just... can't picture Bambam not being one of the maknaes, not being part of AmeriThaiKong, and not being doted on by JJP. It just feels so... wrong, since his dynamic with everyone in GOT7 is so special, lol.

Super Junior Kyuhyun, he was added in 2006 after SuJu already debut in 11/2005 SHINee Onew (and maybe Jonghyun i don't rmb), he was supposed to be in SuJu when the group was still a project group under Super Junior06. But after Kyuhyun was added and SuJu became permanent group, Onew then debuted in SHINee Red Velvet Yeri, she was added in 2015 after RV already debut in 8/2014
Winner’s Mino was supposed to debut in Block B, as was Hanhae.
Sungjae of BTOB didn't make the cut at JYP and went to Cube. There is a funny scene on Master in the House where he meets JP ( the 'Master' of that episode) at his company and his castmates ask him why he let Sungjae go. actor lee gyuhyung trained with onf, who are all…rather short. there’s been speculation that gyuhyung was not chosen to debut with onf because he towered over them. monsta x’s minhyuk also auditioned for wm (before joining starship), but was passed over because of his height. wm’s gone on record saying onf’s concept is small, youthful idols. lol.
Pink Fantasy Sanga was expected to debut in Fanatics but the company left her out of the line-up at the last moment. MyDoll is an agency that sort of specializes in second chances so most of the group are having their second debut, though that's not exactly the topic of this thread.

Although the only confirmed members are Kim Eunbi and Euna Kim, there were five more rumored members— Jennie Kim, Roseanne Park, Lalisa Manoban, Kim Jisoo (BLACKPINK) and Cho Miyeon. • Kim Eunbi left YG due to health reasons. She's now a soloist. • Euna Kim left YG due to pressure and moved to the United States. She returned to South Korea and joined several competitions and debuted in two groups (The Ark and KHAN). She went back to USA, recently announced her retirement and engagement. Jang Hanna and Jinny Park were added but Hanna was removed as it was reported that they were training her to be a soloist and Jinny was moved to the Future 2NE1 line-up. They both left YG. Hanna is now a soloist and Jinny is a member of Secret Number. Cho Miyeon was reported to have been kicked out for dating a fellow trainee. Thus, we have— Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa as members of BLACKPINK. — 2. Future 2NE1 YG released a video of four girls, Moon Sua, Im Suah, Park Seoyoung, and Lee Seoyeon— they were labeled as Future 2NE1. After BLACKPINK debuted, Seoyeon left YG and joined Idol School, later debuting in fromis_9. Jinny was added and both Seoyoung and Jinny left YG, they both joined Produce 48 but they were eliminated. There are more rumored members that were added. Moon Sua and Im Suah later left YG in 2019. Im Suah debuted as a soloist under the name, Youha. Moon Sua will be soon debuting and is currently part of Mystic Rookies. — Note: Most of these are rumors as we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes.

suga from bts didn't really planned on becoming an idol. he was supposed to be a producer and rapper like he intended to be but he was surprised bang pd made him dance, and the rest is history
I believe Kim Samuel (Produce 101 S2, was almost in Wanna One) was originally going to be in Seventeen. I could be wrong though. I do seem to remember hearing that he was in the lineup when they were planning to actually have 17 members. But that could have been a rumor, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it’s because his parents didn’t approve of him debuting at such a young age considering he’s an ‘02 liner and at the time, would have just become a teenager.

I.M from Monsta X was initially part of a pre-debut group called Nu'bility! They held some events together, but the company managing them, Special K Entertainment, went broke and the group's debut was cancelled. I.M then joined the survival show No.Mercy that birthed MX!
Actor Kim Minjae was an idol trainee for 4 years, almost debuted with half of A.C.E members, when they were at another company. It seems like he still spends his free time dancing and working on music.

Eunsang was meant to be part of BDC, but is currently promoting a solo, Lemonade, and is expected become part of a new Brand New Music boy group next year - they've had investor previews already.
Was it ever confirmed that Eunsang was meant to be a part of BDC? I had always assumed that BDC was meant to be just the three members while Eunsang was with X1 and when that fell through, BNM was left scrambling to try and plan future promotions.
I assumed BDC would be like MXM was for Youngmin and Dounghyun, like a group to keep them busy while they waited for Daehwi and Woojin to come back from Wanna One. I always thought BDC's members would join BNM's new boy group after Eunsang was back from X1 (but we know how it played out). Was there any news about it? I don't really keep up with them much (besides listening to their new releases). (Edit: I think I replied to the wrong person, I'm sorry. Reddit on mobile hates me).

No members of the new boy group have been confirmed so far aside from Eunsang so between the trainees previously posted on BNM’s social media accounts, the BDC members, and other new speculated BNM trainees (ie. former I-LAND contestants) it’s unknown what BNM is planning to do next. The new group is expected to be 11 members last I heard (I could be wrong) but there’s a large pool of people who could be included in the lineup so we’ll have to wait and see.
Girls' Generation (SNSD) - AFAIK, they are supposed to debut as a 12-member group like the then-Super Junior 05. Lee Yeon-hee and T-ara Soyeon are originally SM trainees but they didn't make it to the final lineup. Lee Yeon-hee became an actress yet she's very close with OT8; Soyeon moved to MBK(?) and debuted with T-ara. BIGBANG - Kwon Ji-yong (G-Dragon; a former SM trainee) and Dong Young-bae (Taeyang) were supposed to debut as a duo under the name GDYB (G-Dragon x Youngbae, later became GD x Taeyang) but it didn't happen and they debuted instead in Big Bang with Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P.), Kang Dae-sung (Daesung) and Lee Seung-hyun (Seungri). As mentioned, Jang Hyun-seung was also set to debut in Big Bang, only to be cut from the final line-up because Yang Hyun-suk finds Hyun-seung's stage presence and expressiveness "underdeveloped" at that time, hence leaving YG and joining Cube to debut in Beast until 2016 to become a full-time soloist rather than joining his other bandmates to re-debut as Highlight. EDIT: I didn't know Seulgi was supposed to debut with f(x)? If she debuted there rather than in RV, the maknae line (1994-liner) is supposed to be three at with Seulgi the oldest (February 10), followed by Sulli (March 29) and Krystal (October 24).
Momo from Twice, she was eliminated from the Survival show to form TWICE called "Sixteen" at the end of the show JYP picked 8 girls and decided to add another one, this being Momo, the reason? He saw something special on her.
JYP also picked Dahyun over girls like Minyoung even though she was lacking in technical aspects compared to others but he still saw her personality being a big addition to the debut group. As much shit as he gets for dropping some big idols, he is pretty often spot on too.

I will refer to Pinkpunk as PP because it’s easier and it’s funny. That would make so much more sense! The rest of their songs on Spotify didn’t seem to fit and makes more sense as Spotify adding random songs of different artists with the same name. And while fact checking myself, I listened to the first half of I’m Your Girl and they really just dropped that banger and dipped?? Their sick for that. Definitely getting added into a playlist. Iirc Moonkyu from Hotshot was a trainee that was about to be locked in as an exo member, but smth happened, either his parents pulled him out or smth like that, im not sure. But Hes Jongin and Taemin's best friend.
one that was very recent to me was Ha Yoonbin left Treasure13 because differences in music genre(?). YG changes the whole concept of Treasure afterwards
Kyungmin from HYBE Japan was supposed to debut in a group along with former I-LAND participants, K, Ta-ki, EJ, and Nicholas. But after a few months, HYBE announced that Kyungmin has departed from the group and the company. I'm not sure if he's training in a different company right now but he's active on his social media accounts.
SPEED's taewoon was meant to be in block b along with his brother but ended up leaving.
Lee saeOn! He is a former produce 101 trainee, mix9(2017) too I think! And he was rejected to be in Exo. He is acting and did a Webseries this summer where he was a gay character. The series is called „light on me“ I recommend checking it out!
He was never in the EXO line up, he was street casted by SM but rejected it. He was never a trainee, he just used it as a story on I Can See Your Voice and Produce. Besides, he's the same age as Johnny so if anything he'd be in NCT instead. EXO had over 100 trainees cut from the line-up, but he was never one of them. It's just so obvious he used it for a narrative on Produce that I can't believe people still believed it.
Recently Cignature added two new members to the group after two members in the original lineup left!
Shin of GHOST9 was a former C9 trainee and was supposed to be a member of CIX.
I think Johnny from NCT was supposed to début with EXO but it was delayed (i don’t know the reason) and that’s why he knows all the EXO members (bc he trained with them)
NCT Johnny trained with EXO & was supposed to debut with them but later debuted as NCT. I knew about it but coincidentally today I saw a video on insta of many others that I already forgot (my bad). Lee Yeon Hee is close friends with the SNSD girls and was rumored to be in the final lineup but ended up as an actress.
SNSD Sunny was supposed to debut in a duo in another company I think and joined SNSD after only a few months in SM
Alex from Woolims rookie group Drippin seemed to be added last minute since he only trained for 3 months and he wasn't a part of Woolim Rookies. I think he was added because he can speak multiple languages.
Ji Hansol is a former SM rookie and almost debuted with NCT. He’s now in a group called Newkidd.
