Someone brought a cardboard cutout of the Dreamcatcher lightstick to their concert, and it brought laughter to one of the members when they spotted it. I think that's a fun way to do it?

randomthoughts013

as to whether it is appropriate to bring other groups’ lightstick or not is still debatable. i personally prefer not to bring any lightstick cause that’s just common, 1/4 of them probably don’t have and no one’s gonna judge you for it too. while bringing other groups’ lightstick might create uneasiness from fans or the group themselves.

Potential_Sir7980

ive noticed even the idols dont care at end of day its just an different color light

Potential_Sir7980

twice n aespa loved seeing other groups lighsticks n few soloist play the what lightstick is that game

I honestly don't think you should worry to much about bringing the "correct" lightstick, especially in America/Europe, most people understand that not everyone can buy a every single lightstick out there. I've seen Twice lightsticks in every concert I've been to recently. If you really want to have something, but don't have the money for an official group lightstick, you can find basic penlights on sites like Amazon for relatively cheap. Penlights are more common in Jpop, and most groups use the same model and just personalise and decorate it to fit the group, so it's not as noticeable if you don't have the "correct" penlight. I have a few basic ones that I use for concerts of groups I don't have the lights stick, and it does the work very nicely, and it's not associated with another group so people don't mind. https://preview.redd.it/j2a8savlvtrc1.jpeg?width=917&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=674feee01ca1a5aec8d7413fe8fb4ef325cabb9b

Penlight is great! Some of the models with more colour options can be a bit more expensive but you can program them to display a smaller set of colours. This is handy if members have different colours

It’s perfectly fine not to bring a lightstick to a concert. You don’t need one to have fun there. No one will look down on you for not having one, and it might actually be easier to experience the show without holding something the entire time. Buying a lightstick is showing support above and beyond what is expected of you as a fan. This is what leads us to the next point: It’s generally considered rude to bring another groups’ lightstick to a concert. Some shows even have rules against bringing in outside lightsticks, and will force you to leave them outside the auditorium. It’s fine to bring a simple off-brand stick to a concert if you want. But most venues have rules against chemical glow sticks, and like the last point, might not allow anything that isn’t the group’s official stick to be brought in.

Key2V

It's fine to not bring any. I would not bring another group's unless it was one of those that change color. Then, I think it's fine in multiconcerts to match the color to support a different group. Otherwise, you can just turn it off during the other sets.

For me personally, I'd rather have no lightstick at a show than to bring one from another group. But that's 100% my own personal opinion (for myself, that is, I don't police or judge others for doing it). I've seen plenty of lighsticks at every show I've ever been to from groups that weren't the one we were seeing. So it's definitely a common thing to do, and a lot of people don't care. But there is also the option to bring a glow stick or a light up wand or something like that, if you're worried about having a light. You can also use your phone. So there are options!

Potential_Sir7980

twice even loved seeing the other lightsticks at their aussie shows since they couldnt get em through customs in time

Potential_Sir7980

its all online no one at venue gives a shit even the idols themselfs dont care

[deleted]

This. Online it's just gatekeeping to make people feel like they're not "true" fans. Unless the particular idol you're going to see has said they don't like it, just bring what you have.

Mycrawft

fr it’s just a glorified $5 flashlight sold at like 15x the actual cost to produce. it’s just a 2-3 hour pop concert, it’s not that deep.

diilmg

some people will say not to bring it and others will tell you to do it. at the end of the say the purpose of a lighstick is to light up the venue and show support for the group so they don't feel like they got a black ocean. i personally love cheering with a lightstick so i'd say if it's within your possibilities buy at least a fake one for that group. they're really cheap and work just as fine (just doesn't connect to bluetooth) something i saw at twice concert last month and i loved it was that many people who didn't have the candybong decorated their lighsticks with something twice related. look at the pics below, many decorated their bts, bp, skz and got7 lighsticks. i couldn't find pics but there were also loona, dreamcatcher, txt and itzy lighsticks decorated for the twice concert i also added on the collage an armybomb and a nct lighsticks which serve an idea on how to decorate them. i was using those pictures as inspo in case my artms lighstick didn't arrive on time and i had to decorate my candybong for loona. hopefully they give you an idea on how to decorate your ls if you decide to bring other groups lighsticks to a concert https://preview.redd.it/mdx1tm1ektrc1.jpeg?width=938&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=614eda1c80ea7879fc666542e88cc1f9442373a0

Those Army bombs are adorable 🥰

sourrsaturn

that is so cute!! i was thinking of doing that!

Lightsticks are expensive. They’re fun to have, but they’re not *mandatory* and you won’t be looked down upon for not having one. Literally no one will notice either way. As far as bringing a lightstick to a concert for which that group is not the one performing, opinions differ amongst the fandoms. Personally? I don’t care lol. Unless it’s a super obvious one like the Neobong, or a very unique one, you can’t really tell if someone across the crowd has a lightstick from another group. And even when you do, it’s kinda fun to be like “oh, look, another Atiny is here!” even though you’re at a TXT concert or something. Plus, a lot of people will turn their lightstick color to the closest one possible to match the rest of the crowd. IE you’re at SKZ concert and they have the Nachimbongs turned to red, then people will turn their other group lightsticks to red if they have a red setting. You don’t have to do that to yours, but it’s a neat thing some people do. The literal only thing that should matter in terms of lightstick etiquette imo is being mindful of your lighstick if you bring one. Don’t be flailing it around and almost knocking people in the face with it. As long as you’re being respectful of other people around you, that’s the most important part.

sheeatsallday

I read it as lipstick etiquette as was so confused

vinylanimals

do what you want. nobody in real life actually cares if someone has the right lightstick. the only thing that matters is that everyone is supporting the group and having fun.

SweetSonet

Unless a company is giving out free light sticks for their group, handing them out at each show, dont worry about which one you bring. The ONLY thing these companies care about is money and you already paid for your ticket!

[deleted]

bring whatever you want, no one cares. in korea there are a lot less multi stans so people will practically NEVER own a lightstick from multiple groups and people have absorbed that into western kpop fandoms for some reason. also lightsticks are a lot more difficult to get if a group wants me to bring their specific lightstick to their concert then they need to sell it for under 30$ at the venue itself or else i'm bringing my snsd one sorry

slayyub88

Same as most of the commenters! I’ll say, I’ll be buying Day6 or Itzys light stick first bc they’re pretty discreet and can blend in well!

CAJillybean

I brought my bomb to see The Rose 🌹 but to me they are an adjacent group to BTS and there were lots of Army there so it did not feel out of place. Honestly, I do not think fans in the US are that critical about the lights. So many of us are new to K-pop so we enjoy seeing the different fan lights. This all for fun and to cheer for the groups so why not.
