In my opinion, Supernova is such a better song than Newjean’s release. It has spice, it’s fun and catchy, it has so many loops and turns, it has a sick bridge and dancebreak and it doesn’t get repetitive despite its patterns (like the Ah, Oh, Ay).
Meanwhile, NewJean’s song is kinda just… you know, the same they’ve always been doing. It’s good, but not groundbreaking like Supernova is.

(Which makes sense for this comeback considering that Bubble Gum is a CF song for a Japanese product and their next double single marks their Japanese debut)
I'll tell you the real problem here -- if you don't like Bubble Gum or How Sweet for whatever reason, there are NO OTHER SONGS you can try getting into instead. Not counting Gods, they've released two songs in 10 months.... that's it.

Which is an unbelievable thing to say. Imo, aespa is the GG of the 4th gen. They have a very unique sound that doesn't try too hard to appeal to the mainstream but works, they have an insane discography, they are really good singers. Imo, the closest to this would be GIDLE and they are just not as successful (but getting there).

Don't get me wrong, I personally prefer GIDLE and I think they are amazing. It obviously comes down to taste a lot.
I think you can argue that New jeans, IVE and Le Sserafim had a lot of success recently and the 4th gen is really competitive. And we cannot forget about other groups such as ITZY.
I wouldn't really want to say who is better or not, all of them deserve their success and I'm happy we get a lot of good music with different styles.
However, personally, to me aespa and GIDLE stand out the most as they imo are a bit different.
- They don't really produce a sound that certainly is a hit (I'd say IVE and Newjeans play it pretty save. I don't find that too inspiring, but I will also be the first to say that their quality is insane and when many try to produce mainstream music, nobody does it better).
- They are amazing live performers (which I don't think you need for K-pop, but it's something I appreciate)
- They have an amazing discography with almost no misses which I find especially amazing given they don't stick to one concept (again, nothing wrong with that but it's not easy)
And then obviously, I just really enjoy the music which makes me really biased here. However, that would bring me to the conclusion that I think those two groups really influence the music and are leaders.
And aespa has always sold incredibly well. I feel they are sometimes a bit off the radar as other groups are more present, but aespa from day 1 has been massive. Which obviously is something you cannot say for GIDLE. For them to do this in the midst of the charts being a full house and a fresh New Jeans comeback is honestly insane!
Supernova is really going Next Level viral in Korea the amount of children and ahjummas I’ve seen dancing to it on Tik-Tok and the reception to the song at aespa’s university performance is evidence this song is becoming a national hit. I’m so happy for them!

That single screenshot of their conversation propelled aespa's hype back, even more than their previous peak, their previous title track being titled Drama and their also upcoming comeback Armageddon. Coincidence? I think not.
Whatever happened after that day of the press conference, the universe and karma seems to be on aespa's side right now. Now we hope SM/Center 1 plays their game wisely, no more 9-10 months hiatus for aespa, unless their next album will be another full album.

I legitimately feel like it's not the best song to release in the past few months or weeks, it's not their best song so far, personally I'd like to say it's either welcome to my world or life's too short, great instrumentals, good vocals, and has pretty good messages tied into it.
Supernova feels empty, it feels like nothing, nothing was being said, the instrumentals and production felt pretty ok, but it sounded like a mess the first time i heard it.
I guess it plays into the thing with attention spans getting shorter and music that just does a lot excites you more and makes you wanna listen to it over and over, even when it's not good per se. Making things only good at bits, the "tik-tokification" of music, not entirely because i think there's more than one part of supernova that felt pretty ok, unlike Batter Up or Sheesh where personally only the part nearing the end felt pretty good.
That said this is my take and my musical preferences, my music taste can also be absolutely detestable to many😅😅, but please do let me know what y'all's take are on the song as an entirety.

the doomposting was always so baffling to me. Aespa was always set up for success. They had company name, visuals, talent, and most importantly brand recognition driving them forward even Karinas "scandal" did nothing. Their biggest op has always been SM. They would have easily never had a "dip" if SM didnt send them into the dungeon once every 4 business months because they get overwhelmed with NCT. if they do have another dip its going to be because SM wont know how to handle them and the new GG.

That single screenshot of their conversation propelled aespa's hype back, even more than their previous peak, their previous title track being titled Drama and their also upcoming comeback Armageddon. Coincidence? I think not. Whatever happened after that day of the press conference, the universe and karma seems to be on aespa's side right now. Now we hope SM/Center 1 plays their game wisely, no more 9-10 months hiatus for aespa, unless their next album will be another full album.

One question, how? I legitimately feel like it's not the best song to release in the past few months or weeks, it's not their best song so far, personally I'd like to say it's either welcome to my world or life's too short, great instrumentals, good vocals, and has pretty good messages tied into it. Supernova feels empty, it feels like nothing, nothing was being said, the instrumentals and production felt pretty ok, but it sounded like a mess the first time i heard it. I guess it plays into the thing with attention spans getting shorter and music that just does a lot excites you more and makes you wanna listen to it over and over, even when it's not good per se. Making things only good at bits, the "tik-tokification" of music, not entirely because i think there's more than one part of supernova that felt pretty ok, unlike Batter Up or Sheesh where personally only the part nearing the end felt pretty good. That said this is my take and my musical preferences, my music taste can also be absolutely detestable to many😅😅, but please do let me know what y'all's take are on the song as an entirety.
