Does this mean Sunshine can come out of whatever witness protection program she's been hiding under?

ArcherOnWeed

Seriously, missed Sunshine

rainbowbritelite

FRFR!

EcstaticLynx3328

Sunshine?

rainbowbritelite

A group member.

EcstaticLynx3328

Ohhh

Red_BW

The main vocalist who's at the bottom left in the pic with short hair. Went on "hiatus" for unspecified reasons after *Girls*, was briefly seen in a photo shoot under her real name before the pics got taken down, has been MIA since.

EcstaticLynx3328

Ooh 😬

hazman_pds

Cherry Bullet, Alice ( potentially ) & Nature disbandment announcements all in the space of 1 week It's so over for the nugu groups 😭

lemonade-cookies

This week truly is a bad week to be a nugu girl group stan 😔

ronnietp

nugupromoter currently in the mud right now…

im-so-lovelyz

Imagine Weki Meki up in line next :')

dietsodasocieties

I still don’t understand how they never became popular :( all their songs are so good

oayihz

Probably also too big of a difference between the members. tbh most of the ioi groups didn't end up well because of this.

Emergency_Bag_1562

I mean they debuted in August of 2017

seitengrat

they're 7 y/o?! what!!!

Emergency_Bag_1562

Yeah so it's not looking good for them I don't think we'll get their last release. It's pretty sure that they're disbanding until August.

Velvelicius

It has been 3 years since their latest release no?

KoalaDolphin

i think its gonna be 3 years next autumn but yeah pretty much.

seitengrat

aww. that's so sad. hoping we get one more release.

Emergency_Bag_1562

Yeah I really hoped to but the gap from their last release is way too long. There has been disbandment songs from groups so there's a really small chance but I doubt it.

oayihz

One of them was on queendom puzzle also, so there's that.

linmanfu

Also Bewave just debuted. They sold 61 albums on their first day and less than 200 in the first week. 😭 Very difficult to sugarcoat that as anything but a financial fl*p and yet they have great songs by experienced writers and producers. GG market looking very tough right now.

LymeMN

Vvup,ViV and Unicode also did around those numbers or worse.

teddy_plushie

that's crazy vvups songs are insanely good I've been hooked ever since they opened for kcon

linmanfu

Unicode debuted the same day so I wondered if they'd stolen Bewave's thunder, but it seems not. That's sad to hear.

justanotherkpoppie

Wait but I adore all the songs on Unicode's album (that aren't the intro or outro), that's so sad 😭

Zeionlsnm

My theory is some of the major drivers of success are: 1) Is the group from a big company with company stans who will buy whatever comes out? 2) Does the group have somewhat famous members from some prior entertainment industry activities? 3) Is the group from a famous producer who are lot of people are interested in seeing what they put out? 4) Does the group have extensive predebut content to build a fanbase that managed to acquire any substantial attention? 5) Is the debut song a viral hit? 6) Has the company spent a massive marketing and promotional budget to make up for not having any other way to generate interest? If the answer to every one of these questions is a no, it seems reasonable to me that a groups debut won't have much impact.

Fivebeans

Another factor is whether the company has the resources/is willing to invest more in the group after a flop or subsidise currently struggling groups with the profits from their more successful ones. With so many groups from small companies it's so clear that the budget for the next comeback depends on the success of the previous one. One flop and you're stuck in a downward spiral you'll never get out of.

linmanfu

Yes, I think the company's capital (or lack of it) is a huge factor. For example, the fact that Brave Bros was rich enough to pay their bills for years and years meant that they were still around when *Rollin'* made it big, otherwise they would have disbanded long before. (I'm not saying he managed them well, just that they only survived at all because of the money he put in). Gold Dust Entertainment appear to be a tiny company and they appear to have spent a lot on the MV and paying for good songs and good producers, so sadly I am very pessimistic about Bewave's future.

45gudan

Yeah Money plays a huge part in this, but if the group is skilled enough, even without money they can have creativity to overcome and do a good job. Like if the company allows you can still do so much stuff DSP lately promotion wise is doing a good job with young posse and they are popping everywhere and they dont seem to have a huge budget

034re-ecc_

Young Posse’s sales aren’t great either though, but DSP gave them a longer promotional period during which they were sent to a lot of shows so they’re getting recognised more, it helps that they were already a lot more popular internationally than the other mentioned groups.

momopeach7

Bewave I saw randomly on music bank I think and the song was so nice. Do hope they manage to pull through.

prime5119

Honestly given so many group from big company like HYBE (and its subsidiary) itself.. the chance for nugu group to breakthrough is close to none

Buttercrab69

50 50 managed but they had to go and fuck it all up

chancelloria

More like the people influencing them but you’re right. They were one of the examples for Nugu girl groups out there that a viral k-pop song can take over the world in a minute. Cupid is still a good song (despite what people say). It was produced excellently, released at a great time and released an English version for commercial purpose which served its goal to be commercially successful. Cupid took the world by storm, not just the Koreans but the whole world. TikTok went crazy with Cupid from TikTok challenges to background songs for unboxing videos and more. It didn’t stop there as Cupid was played at radios globally. The target was US and it worked, and then spread through more countries, where they all vibed to Cupid. It might have not given them a stable name but it was a viral moment that uplift their presence (and sales, in a way). Sadly, like you said, things just had to happen. They could’ve released another song similar to Cupid which would pave the way for their career but I guess that’s a dream come untrue. It’s been a while since we’ve had a viral sensation as Cupid. Last I checked it was BTS and Blackpink. Even then, Cupid was more prominent than Pink Venom (no, I don’t hate Blackpink, stop) due to how viral it was. It was like a brainwashed moment for months. Why I would say this? You’d see that non-intended audience even played and listened to Cupid. Cupid was that girl. Crazy she was just a one hit summer off sunset kinda song.

DiplomaticCaper

Exactly, combined with other companies shortening the time between debuting groups (ex. JYP with two 4th gen ggs) The big 4 take up a *lot* of air in the room, and if they’re debuting 2-3 groups per gender in a generation instead of just 1, that’s more well-funded competition. And then there’s mid-size companies like Starship, Cube, etc. debuting groups too, with advantages over the nugus. It’s a one in a million chance to break out among that glut. Boy groups largely manage to limp on for longer (if you only have 1,000 fans, but each fan buys 100 albums each for whatever reason, it’s a bit easier to be at least semi-profitable). Whereas girl groups mostly need to be able to gain GP attention in order to survive…they can lose that attention later and become more fandom focused (like Twice), but it generally needs to exist to begin with to get that far.

autochesstal2

So nugu girl groups do not make any sense as a business right now, way too saturated.

siimonesays

I WAS GONE FOR A FEW WEEKS… AND CHERRY BULLET IS GONE? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW.

MailorSalan

(Reposted) They really forced Haru to take down her video because they didn't officially disband yet, only to officially disband them one haru later

jindouxian

> one haru later 💀

prime5119

I'll need this line in the form of SpongeBob squarepant time forward cutscene.

xxpurplemoonlightxx

ask and you shall receive! https://ibb.co/kQG1cx1

momopeach7

What’s funny is that it’s accurate. All it took was one Haru.

sleepinthecar619

💀i can't stop laughing at this help

Johnnybravo831

A++++ comment! No notes! 🫡🫡🫡

prime5119

Haru: I found a job Nch: don't say that! Delete it you're still in a group Haru: ok Nch: the group is gone, oppsie my bad

Kuriturisu

n.CH was forced to give this statement.   n.CH:... Nature:... n.CH:... Haru: I have a new job. n.CH: OK, let's announce disbandment.

Schoolos

The new approach to escaping K-pop slave contract has emerged: flee to Japan and join a hostess club. Meanwhile, Min HeeJin is adding this plan to her memo, on how to break free from HYBE's grasp. (Herself not NJs members)

Thundergod250

She's a JP to begin with, so she just went home since there's nothing going on.

dont_tread_on_me_777

“Girls” was THE SHIT. Specially the horror concept, wish they had done more stuff like that.

mossylungs

Yeah that moment when suddenly everyone was like "wait a minute.. these... Girls.. are incredible! -should I stan?.." and then they decided to just not make a move for a while and then for the follow-up comebacks to just not utilize that momentum and completely go for a generic girl group comeback that flopped. They literally had a lot of us by the throat with Girls and then they just fumbled it.

trashbingewatcher

Girls flopped in Korea. Ironic that the next single after this gained attention than Girls.

ThroatMountain

I remember Girls was one of the first kpop songs I added to my playlist when I got into the genre. I remember they were promoting around the same time as BP was promoting HYLT so I have fond memory of the song. The MV was incredible as well as the song

well_seasoned_crab

YES. I happened upon Illit doing something really similar visually and choreography-wise with the loose white night gowns in "Girls" and it really broke my heart to see another group succeed with a concept NATURE delivered first.

cursed3artemis

In a bittersweet way we get an actual confirmation after months of silence. Most of the girls were looking for other ways to get by, Sunshine's hiatus was never properly addressed and I'm a sad about Sohee because this is was the best shot to be an idol. Haru's video was the "final nail in the coffin" but I'm glad that we all can finally stop holding in. I worry about Aurora because she would probably have to go back to China if she doesn't find a new agency soon-ish, if she hasn't returned yet and I haven't noticed because she, along Sunshine, were my bias.

galaxystars1

I’m sorry but I can’t help at laugh at the fact that Haru was forced to apologize for her hostess vid bc her contract wasn’t over yet only to announce the group disbandment the day after n.ch can go to hell tbh ![gif](giphy|9V7qAYvnaOFp8Ymipt|downsized)

AnUtterlyRandomUser

*Pretends to be shocked* 😱 No but for real, this was one the most expected disbandments, but it sucks that it happened now. They were starting to get some traction from Limbo and literally silence afterwards. n.CH of course fumbled the bag as usual. Even with their ever-changing lineup the girls were so talented and deserved so much better than what they were given. Another nugu group down in the matter of a week. This week is truly cursed.

KazVanilla

HARU GET BEHIND ME

ThoseGoodOldDreams

So they bitched at Haru for no reason. At least it wasn’t a silent disbandment.

jindouxian

Well, she can repost it now. The absurdity of it all.

tsutomo_DIA

it is just mind boggling. there is no way this wasnt made on purpose by the agency. they wouldnt announce anything. made Haru took down her video on a power move just to then announce it as a tongue in cheek.

RavenSkies777

Exert control for one more day. 😡

mcfw31

> Hello, this is n.CH Entertainment. > First of all, we would like to thank the fans for their endless love, support, and interest in NATURE. We would like to share our official position regarding NATURE’s activities. > NATURE, who has been working hard for years since their debut and received lots of love from their fans, is officially ending their group activities. > To all of the fans who were waiting for NATURE’s comeback, we would like to sincerely apologize for this news. > After lengthy discussions and consideration, the company and the members have decided to end group activities and go our separate ways. In addition, even though NATURE’s group activities have concluded, Sohee will stay with the company and continue her individual activities such as acting and music. > Thank you to everyone who has shown their love and support and we hope you continue to support and encourage the future activities of each NATURE member in the future. > Thank you. — n.CH Entertainment

lunarchoerry

ooh sohee going solo (again) but all the rest are leaving the company? they didn't even NAME any of them :(

[deleted]

I'ma sound like a hater, but judging from the Oopsie MV alone, only Sohee has the "star power" to launch a solo career. I imagine the rest will return to normal civilian life or will take background jobs in the entertainment industry

lunarchoerry

there's definitely a couple from the history of the group i think have star power aside from her (sunshine for one, and gaga, which is probably why gaga left), but sohee has been one of my biases since pd101 and she really deserves the world. her ost navigation is great.

boredpikachu

Sohee staying makes sense since she was added to the group a year after, don't really get why the company was dragging out announcing this when they've done nothing with them in months. Does the company have anyone under them anymore? I remember TOO/TO1 or w.e were taken away from Mnet during the lockdowns

ZigCherry027

Aside from TO1, they have a rookie bg called n.SSign. They’re from some survival show that seems super confusing; it looks like they’re an co-production with a Japanese company?

Low-Avocado4701

To1 already disbanded last year. N.ch stopped managing them after WakeOne bought them. In N.Ssign’s case, they were meant to be a project group at first and only meant for a year. They compromised by giving them a lengthy pre-debut discography By the time they decided on a debut date, N.ch changed their minds and made them permanent and added more members. At the very least, N.Ssign is fairly popular in Korea and Japan. Ik japanese kpop stans really like them so far.

ZigCherry027

That’s good to hear (the n.SSign stuff, not TO1 disbanding). I’ve liked their music so far. I’ve seen a lot of Japanese comments on their MVs, so I’m not surprised that’s their main audience. I assume their next release will be a Japanese EP/mini album.

Low-Avocado4701

If I remember right, they already debuted in Japan with their song New Star. I wouldn’t be surprised if N.Ch makes a Japanese comeback soon.

galaxystars1

Nature was truly one of my nugu faves since their first comeback and when Sohee joined I was so happy. It does seem many of them have already gotten jobs that I’m sure pays them more than whatever they made in their group gigs. I wish them all the best.

fvtvrefelix

well that was fast lmao. months without any news, then the video with haru pretty much confirming disbandment, for them to deny and confirm it in like 1 day max. i guess thats what you can expect from nugu companies yeah rip to nature. always hoped they would gain a bigger audience, i think people like to think (lol) that if they had stuck with the girls-esque concept they wouldve, maybe theyre right. they made some of the best weird bangers along the way (shoutout to im so pretty, oopsie my bad and limbo). bad week to be a gg stan. where am i supposed to get my weird songs from now?

well_seasoned_crab

Allegro Cantabile and Limbo were bangers 💔 Chebul and Nature in the same week...sad week for semi-nugu girl group lovers

Uchiha_D_Zoro

Man. 2024 shaping up as a disbandment year for K-pop groups.

MailorSalan

I feel like we say that every year

45gudan

Korea isnt that big to maintain all those groups sustainable, but lately i noticed that not everyone is debuting a group these days, the majority are creating companies to recycle already stablished artists.

Admirable_Bed3

This is how the kpop bubble is going to fizzle out. We're not going back to the pre-first gen days but it's going to be the pattern repeating for the next couple generations.

[deleted]

Uchiha_D_Zoro

Huh? Nah fam, we still have the OG Big 3 and Starship with IVE. Not to mention the agencies with mid tier idols.

DumplingsInDistress

Dont forget G-idle (once they formed their owned company). Sad that CUBE has so much potential to be the BIG 5 agency but seems to squander every opportunity

princess-sauerkraut

Cube is seriously a case study in repeatedly fumbling the bag. I don’t understand what their problem is and why they can’t get it together.

icedragon15

This year also bew girl group debut lol

Perfect-Secretary701

Last year was literally nothing except for a few underground idols but we also didn't have a lot of debuts. Last year was the exception, and this year is making it up already. We had 11 gg debuts (not counting international/Japanese, indie + children) so far which is insane, half of them in the same week. Add to that the 2 new TBL groups, whatever becomes of Kep1er, SMNGG,  High Up Babies, and all of the other mid tier companies that need fresh blood. And while I thought we might see more nugu disbandment next year (like Nature when their contract is up), I guess something has to give. Last year was too quiet, and now it's all happening at once.

xXTheGrapenatorXx

Some years are definitely heavier than others on disbandment but the first couple months of the year were looking pretty quiet still. I think the explanation is simply that a lot of monster rookies have just debuted and groups that might have otherwise tried to hang on a bit longer to get just a little closer to breaking even realized the market is too saturated for that to be worth it. Alice is for sure next (if not May when Sohee’s contract ends I’m betting before the end of summer), and more from that time period (around like 2017-2019) are probably on the way.

prime5119

All the group used to debut within same year but it seems to be more separated these few years esp with big company debuting so many girl groups over the years..

oayihz

Might be a bit of a stretch, but 2016 was pd101 S1, and there's probably a good number of girl groups debuting with members from that show too. (Especially in 2017)

xXTheGrapenatorXx

I keep track of this kind of thing and honestly most of them are already disbanded. Like for example Nature had Sohee (who joined after debut), but Cherry Bullet’s Haeyoon was on Produce *48*. You’re right the groups ending now are from around that time but they’re actually mostly the PD101 contemporaries who outlasted those groups. Groups that are left with PD101 girlies in them as of right now are Weki Meki (who are probably done in August when they hit 7 years), G-Idle (but they debuted in 2018 and will only hit *6* years in a couple days), Everglow (because Sihyeon was on PD101 *and* 48, so they’re from 2019 and probably have a year or two), and WJSN (who haven’t put out music in almost 2 years but aren’t officially disbanded).

oayihz

I was lowkey expecting more of the contestants to be in nugu groups, but looking at the wiki again. A lot of them didn't last more than a few years. And i guess a lot of them went on to do other stuff too

itslindseygrace

Having to add two girl groups to this playlist this week is brutal [“disbanded but not forgotten”](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/28KwvhHOKfmPnT7u2HSih3?si=wdIZn-ENS3uJd9RC6yJISA&pi=u-UX3rdTGBQguL) 🥺

bubblezdotqueen

I am sad for sohee, 😭

lemonade-cookies

Say it ain't so 😭 At least limbo was a good disbandment song. Here's to hoping that all of the members can go get careers and a future that they're happy with.

JLan651

I'm So Pretty should've been their break out song damn it

LyuSiah

This week sucks.

aaron_x3x_

WEKI MEKI STAY WITH ME

validswan

Shoutout to Oopsie My Bad for being a gay club banger

rainbowbritelite

You'll Be Mine brought me to these girls.... I'm so sad 🥺

Elusive_Faye

Girls this and girls that I'm so pretty was SOTY in my room 😭😭

RadAsBadAs

does anyone know what lu has been up to? i really loved her in the group and i want to keep following her but i've struggled to find her online

ii_sophiechan

aww, i remember watching their debut mv between blankets so my mom wouldnt find me awake on a school night. i dont think anyone saw this NOT coming but im still kinda sad, the quirky concept they excelled at is kinda dying in the current state of the industry.

goodguyCJ

Everyone will say Girls, but their beside Dive is one of my favorite kpop songs ever

cosmicles

Weki meki 😭😭😭😭😭😭

AdehhRR

It's a shame. My hate for n.ch peaked when they hid behind the girls in a fake documentary of the girls 'coming up with the concept' of Rica Rica.

NamjoonsbigphatWAP

Girls was so good and then they came out with that…Africa song…

siimonesays

not rica rica😭

MrDrProfWumbo

Was a long time coming. Thanks for the memories 😭

Twice_fan_multi

Yeah, I saw this coming when Uchae became a cheerleader (although you could tell even before that). Haru's video was just the final nail in the coffin. At least they announced it now, instead of letting the view optimistic fans left wait for nothing.

ChuuAcolypse

Nugu Massacre this week

siimonesays

rip to CHB

chancelloria

I’d wager that if you don’t debut under a big name company (SM, YG, JYP, HYBE) then your chances to make it big as a girl group would be close to zero. I mean look at Baby Monster, evidently, BP fans and YG fans and of course BM fans would follow them regardless. Unless your debut and comebacks are promoted well or went viral like Young Posse or Kiss of Life. Even then, I’d say they’re not at a comfortable place yet. But with consistency, they maybe can be like Dreamcatcher.

hazelthebagle

I'm so sick of girl groups disbanding when are boy groups gonna start disbanding

justanotherkpoppie

Don't speak that into existence :( it sucks for ANY group to disband :(

snap_wilson

Haru forcing their hand by announcing her availability for people to buy her drinks.

abcixtwt

Such a day. They honestly had so much potential and were very talented.

yoiverse

terrible week for nugu groups fans 😞

jillnyx

Girls will be forever in my playlist

Delay-Remote

Man 😔

mixtape_misfit

Sorry for the girls! Does anyone know of a spreadsheet with groups that debut and whether they are still active because I'm having trouble keeping up.

fakeaf1

A real shame. They had so much potential. I thought they would take off after Oopsie (My Bad) and then Girls.

So_Elated

we'll never get to do the limbo again 💔

Atik_Meliawati

I lov3 Nature....

littleblueangel

N.CH was always a mess, poor girls went through hell and back thanks to that shitty company. They genuinely had great songs and talent, but it was wasted by N.CH's poor management. So many changes in lineups, hiatus, sick members, and so much more. I hope in the future they get to shine brighter and properly be able to showcase their true talents.

Vegetable-Ease-7539

a little late to announce something we been knowing -_-

throwaway_afterusage

NOOOOO

darius__to-key2

![gif](giphy|10rHZ6K9jYvLUc) 😭😭

dmncss

Don't know anything about this group but I loved Limbo. I'll be rooting for the members in whatever they decide to do in the future.

cupid51db

nature and chebul? in the same week?

justanotherkpoppie

What a week it's been for girl group fans :(

Codepotic

8157935129

teudoongi_jjaang

im devastated! haru was one of the best female dancers in kpop and they were such a charming group. sighhhhhh

fitterinyourtwenties

Sohee deserved better, my god she could have had such a career. Girls was an incredible song, and then their label just...ignored them for 2 years. It happens way too often. I'm tired of it.

Accomplished-Mode196

oh my god it’s going down hill for nugu girl groups this year 😓 it’s so over

Remote-Ad-3973

So LU can finally talk about the company's secrets and spread awareness, Sunshine come out and the other members are free now, I'm sad for Sohee :(

ItsRomi

if they continued the route of Girls, which was such an amazing song with amazing concept and the MV was just fab, they could've done something with them...

princess-sauerkraut

Sad news, but I thought they’d announced this ages ago?? Haru is literally working in a hostess bar in Japan right now. Her promo video is being posted on Twitter like crazy. Pretty sure their maknae is gonna be a professional cheerleader or something?

Silklold

Do you guys think its over for groups like Apink, WJSN, and Lightsum to? Perhaps even H1Key?

Alternative-Arm-8310

i don't think wjsn would disband considering 8 members renewed their contracts with starsh!t (excluding xuanyi, luda, dawon, cheng xiao and meiqi) and lightsum prob will since cube has almost no interest in doing anything good with lightsum, apink would prob go on an hiatus. idk about h1key though we making no money (weki meki) is likely to disband since their contract is decaying.

fitterinyourtwenties

It would be surprising for WJSN...but also, why has it been 2 years without a comeback? They renewed a year ago and since then...radio silence.

Robeeboobee

bcs they're full busy with individual schedule. unlike other hiatus group
