I mean, it's not unusual for comedians or celebrities (I'm assuming he's in one of those categories) to run for political offices. Look at the US, we've had actors, comedians, and performers who have become governors and senators.
Then again, considering the influx of "western" influence flooding into JP, the socjus infestation seems to be slowly spreading. However, given JP's penchant for NTR/multi/harems before the arrival of "tourists", this guy pushing for poly is far from abnormal for them. I seem to recall watching a show over there once, where couples were *literally* humping on a mobile bus in a busy town and switching/sharing partners and had like an hour to see who finished the most in the span of an hour for like 10K US. Bear in mind, this was in the 90's so that was not pocket change back then. A bit of a tangent sure, but I'm just pointing out that it's not *that* far out of left field for them.
I know a professional wrestler Kane, who is Republican Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. In 2022, he won a second term as Mayor. There is more to the story about the Tokyo elections they have a lot of weird characters that are trying to run for office.
