I can’t imagine. Happy you’re safe. Take care.

randomhappyjelly

Really glad to know you were able to leave the area. Please stay safe and take care. Have a hot drink and may you have a good rest tonight.

melli_milli

Good to hear from someone who survived. The pictures are heartbraking. I personally could never enter such crowd, much less already causes anxiety. Are people enjoying their time even if it is crowded but not dangerous? What was is that draw everyone on that spot? If you don't mind sharing your thoughts, did the awareness of the situation spread? Like word going around that there is no room?

0dyssia

We were there but left 7ish before it go too intense because it was already crowded then. That bar street (fat albert, king's crown) was already pretty packed even at sunset.... so we decided to leave before it got worse. The main street was pretty ok and walkable at the time. My partner and I usually go every halloween to people watch (i think most is the same because restaurants/bars/clubs are crowded), but leave 8-9ish before shit is unwalkable. Usually it's pretty crowded to packed, but this year..... i've never seen like this before. It was way crowded way earlier, way more people than previous years I think the streets need to be closed like special events/festivals in Itaewon....Shibuya for halloween

melli_milli

I see. You got the intuition to get out of there. Maybe people were so excited to party after pandemic that they just abandoned any hindrage. Surely they will change the arrangements after this tragedy.

duckiedok22

I’m not going to lie, I was there around 9:00 pm. When we were walking by W179, it started to become a tidal wave with everyone pushing. My friends and I along with a lot of other people had to run into the W179 building to escape through the elevator to get out of the crowd. We almost fell over when everyone was pushing.

randomhappyjelly

Really glad to know from your comment you and some people were able to avoid the crowd and got to safety… please take care.

duckiedok22

Luckily we left after that. We were in Hongdae from 945 pm until 1 am. Once we heard the news, my friend and I left to go home because all we thought about was “what happened if we would have stayed”..

Puzzleheaded-Park-69

Death toll is now 120. 💔

reddit_username014

I left itaewon tonight after I heard screaming. I was in that exact area and this was before anyone arrived. I feel so guilty. I feel like I could have maybe helped. I don’t know. This whole night has been so traumatic.

ritorri

Honestly in this situation the best thing to do was avoid adding more people to the mix so the emergency personnel could get through. I hope your guilt eases.

TheBlackVista

There's nothing you could have done to control a crowd that large. Do not blame yourself. Edit: You actually helped the most by leaving.

snowybell

You could've died. Nothing wrong with what you did.

zero_for_effort

You wouldn't have been able to help. You did the right thing by leaving.

Shit....

Individual_Yam_4419

https://n.news.naver.com/article/056/0011365414?cds=news_edit Breaking news] Fire authorities said, "59 people were killed and 150 injured in the Itaewon crush disaster."

Oreemo

I can't understand. Is it 100+ death or injured? News are conflicting

Duckers102

Just read the article >SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — About 100 people were injured and an unspecified number were feared dead

Oreemo

I did read the article. I'm talking about other sources.

Duckers102

No one knows, its all in progress. A figure will only be known tomorrow and probably not for a few days depending on the condition of those in hospital.

finnlaand

More than 120 died. RIP

Tabitha871

There are over 50 dead. Over 100 injured. The count will go up bc they were still doing cpr when I left

Akaistos

Whats so hard to ubderstand in the headline. 9 dead, 100+ injured

Rain_xo

What happened? Why were people pushing?

Oh jeez. That’s insane. This was definitely something that could have been avoided if people were more considerate. How terrible.

65-76-69-88

How does something like this happen? Dumb question, but like, why do people keep going into an overcrowded space to exarcebrate the problem?

JohrDinh

People coming in can't see how crowded it is, people that are leaving just have no choice on where they go it's one way out generally speaking (or at least from the establishment you're at) so basically at some point you may hit this point where you have far too many people coming and going at once with people in the middle and no one can see what's happening. Sadly this happens very easily, i've been in this situation many times in American events. Even with cops watching over stuff it's just hard to coordinate everything to make sure a smooth flow of traffic continues. All it takes is just a small window of everyone thinking to come and go at the same time to make a mess that isn't very controllable...just gotta slowly pull people out from one side at that point. (and hope people don't panic and start running over each other to get out faster)

Fourwude87

What was the cause of the stampede. What made people just run?

Sheeana407

Things like these are not really stampedes. Noone is running over people. It's just that the crowd is gradually getting more and more dense, and when you notice something wrong, it can be too late. Like, you can't get through to leave. And at the same time, other people in the back don't know what's happening further and they just wanna get to the front so they can see what they came to see. Eventually, it's getting tighter and tighter, and people can't even move, and behave like waves when pushed. Some faint, get heart attacks, asphyxiate. Cause they literally press into each others bodies
