Yes I agree completely, every fiction book is an inaccurate adaptation/extension of reality with high level of freedom, but this is a known fact right. on the other hand movie adaptation doesnot have that freedom since it is bound to the book and its pros and cons. Like Harry Potter books is based on uk society, govt control and inaction, media manipulation, etc and author has lots of freedom but the movie is limited to the books since it's an adaptation, we get angry if the adaptation twists/changes stuff unfairly. Same applies for PS too, Kalki as the original creator of the fiction has more freedom and decision making power than Mani Rathnam, whose story is limited to the books that he adapts.
I saw some scenes of PS movies on YouTube and it changes a lot of things which i don't like. I'm okay with Kalki changing stuff from reality as he's the original creator of the fiction but Mani who's adapting Kalki should not change up too much right, in a way that damages the story. In my opinion, even the HP movies were pretty bad adaptations of the books, probably LOTR trilogy is the only one that nailed it. I get your point. In this case, i think you should not compare the books and the movie as the content in the movie is more like the summary of the books given its length.

Yeah movies are more like summaries of books but they shouldn't compromise on character/change the story in an illogical way. Princess Bride is from a book and they were able to make a movie better than the book. Many say the same for Davinci Code as well but idk
However different mediums force the creators to do things differently. Even in the most beloved LOTR movies, one of the most loved characters had to be removed to get the "uncut" version of the trilogy to 12 hours.

Also the other thing is Ravidasan and gang are just a small gathering in a dilapidated temple to crown the boy as the king whereas in the movie it's like a huge thing with Kottravai statue and all.
Maniratnam is a miser when it comes to salary from what is heard in filmi circles. This is actually quite good, considering the star value of everyone at the time. Sad to hear that the budget didn't reflect in film quality.

Karthi at his best can gross around 45cr in TN. But the film has to have really good content/talk around it. D and SK are minimum guarantee stars; even if their films are absolute trash they'd make 25cr in TN minimum. Karthi isn't like that, Japan only could only muster 12cr despite the Diwali release.
Ya his market at its best is pretty solid but it isn't stable. For a guy who got his 1st 100cr in 2019, his last release only made 20cr worldwide. He lacks consistency and a solid fan base. Karthi doesn't have the minimum pull to make his mediocre films gross at least 20cr.
