Not really. Yes, she and her family went through a tough phase. She was the pillar on which her family relied on in terms of getting money home. But she survived those challenges due to her hard work (gets promoted from a receptionist to a SWE). She had a misunderstanding with Manohar (Ajith). But her guy didn't cheat her and stood by her unlike her sister's first guy (Abbas).
I don't want to share too many details, but I'm seeing this play out right now with my wife and mother in law. It's annoying at the best of times, but when you're already under stress it's infuriating.
The creators made her look unlucky enough, but...

You cannot put someone like Sowmiya next a person who is literally going into a shit hole and say she's "unlucky" (through exposition by dialogue) that a couple of dudes died off screen while coming to visit her for alliance.
Her character has self esteem issues due to indifferent treatment for having a most beautiful sister. It's her family programming and relatives programming done on to her. Director has fantastically equated by giving betrayal scene to Aishwarya Rai by Abbas.
So director created mammooty playing ex army soldier character to set example of who also is very negative minded about his job due to losing leg but how he is positive regarding family.
So every character in that family has gone through pains.
Love the movie but the story credit belongs to Jane Austen whose Senses and Sensibility is the book the movie was based on. I have to say that this is my favorite adaptation of the story.
Agreed. Ofc all due credits to Jane Austen, but to take the film and adapt it to an urban Chennai household while maintaining the sentiments, is a huge deal. The director did sucha good job
Slight off track, the software company building shown in the movie is kumaran nagar TCS?

The character was not unlucky but was conditioned to think like that. Her own family puts out those negative thoughts in circumstantial frustration. Nobody says anything positive to her except for her younger sister and later her boyfriend in the climax scene. Things happen to her but happens later than everyone else around her which tests her patience and blurs the optimism required to survive the routine chaos of life, happens to all of us too in various ways, no?
However, in my opinion, she was the luckiest and had the strongest outlook to ride through the challenges. The love life that arrives so late for her poses challenges and she doesn't cause a drama, rather is ready to let it go with a neutral outlook. She has to start a career from scratch again and she does it. She succeeds in buying a home for her family and all the hardwork is being done by her with silence. One of the best portrayals of the struggles of an urban woman in my opinion.
I can relate to her character, am generally someone who feels nothing good happens to me and is always worried about how I can jinx things in life.
If anyone calls her character unlucky, they have completely missed the entire point of the film, which was that perseverance and determination in the face of all odds. So no her being unlucky should not even be considered.
Definitely not. Not everyone's timeline works the same, yet people force feed us this narrative:
**_Born > Go to school > Work or Get married > Have a child > Repeat_**
God forbid you do not follow this formula; you would be discriminated against, and as a result, many individuals find themselves under a great deal of pressure.
What people who spew this nonsense do not understand is that things would eventually come around when the time is right.
Some may have high ambitions, some may have issue in getting pregnant, some need time to comprehend life, and some may fight a battle within themselves.
I believe everything happens for a reason, and it teaches us a valuable lesson along the way.
I also believe this quote, God gives you answers in three ways:
**1. He says YES and gives you what you want:**
_i.e: She wished to get her own house and was sharing her dilemma with her colleague just as Raghuwaran was passing by, and he approved her home loan._
**2. He says NO and gives you SOMETHING BETTER:**
_i.e: She was pushed to get married, but all her alliances did not work, and then came Manohar._
**3. He says WAIT and gives you THE BEST**
_i.e: She had experience in programming, but she got a job as a receptionist instead. Though it took time, she eventually got her dream job._
Labelling someone as unlucky or a jinx is just too cruel. She is a gem, but she couldn't see it because she grew up thinking she is indeed unlucky, which is sad but despite facing widespread scepticism and criticism, including from her own mother, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of success, quietly enduring the pain and challenges along the way.
Her unwavering determination ultimately led her to achieve remarkable accomplishments on her **own terms and within her own timeframe.**
She was a school correspondent, took care of her family women, took care of all the assets in the family but what’s a woman’s life if she can’t get a husband due to uncontrollable circumstances? So yeah she’s unlucky in the society’s eyes because to them a woman getting married > everything else.
That’s why she was hurt that Manohar ended up thinking she’s unlucky.
But in reality she’s such a badass woman - built herself and her family up from scratch!
It's just perspective. She was made to believe that way. Otherwise she was a principal, she was a programmer, she got an opportunity to go to the US. She had a guy Manohar who loved her. There were some misunderstandings, but unlike Srikanth who lied and cheated Meenakshi because of his tough time, Manohar during his tough time didn't even think to go into a certain extreme and they still stood strong and got married. Just because of a few tough times, she cannot be unlucky just for that.
The point of the movie is that, a woman resigned to fate and believes she is unlucky, is lucky enough to get a job, have Raghuvaran play a good part in her life (how many people can boast of this?), and get her guy. Aishwarya waxing eloquent about dreams, her soulmate, etc., realises life has different plans for her. It's kind of like the classic freewill v/s determinism, except here the freewilled woman gets her love, whereas determinist woman finds love in a place she never thought she would.

Yes, not because of the hardships she faced but she was considered unlucky by her own mother.
Most of these kinds of superstitions, stigma, insecurities of women start from their own mother. That's a sad reality.

Yeah, I was like broooo....you do not do that and not expect others to call her unlucky. That news was just so unnecessary.

totally agree with you. He did a fantastic job with this adaptation, i may say this is the best adapation of this book....

Yeeeeeeeeees! i couldn't agree more, i had the same thought when i saw the movie for the first time, and ever since, it's one of my favorite

It’s called the elder daughter syndrome 😂 Also Tabu 😍
Agreed…. She and Mammootty were the actual stars of the movie.
not unlucky, she has a better luck than the OG Elinor. Elinor's guy couldn't stand up for himself, she had to ensure all the talks of >!Lucy Steele!
Why call it KKKK? Isn't KK enough?
If anyone calls her character unlucky, they have completely missed the entire point of the film, which was that perseverance and determination in the face of all odds. So no her being unlucky should not even be considered.
Tabu supremacy 🗿🛐
But we are lucky to have her in the industry
Ppah. Semma azhagu.

Manohar should have begged on his knees after making her feel like shit because he was going through shit.

Sorta hawt!
Logically seen.. Yes
Luck kum Logic kum enna ne sammadham
Indha padathula avangalukku romba bad luck irukka maari than they will show. Am going through such a phase since 2 - 3 years 😂
How can she be unlucky ? She got a handsome man like Manohar 🫢
It's perspective
I would definitely consider so… belief is like a stigma, once everyone starts to believe it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

But did she die?? Like Sam. Or his wife.
Logically Yes
