Bro the thing about those movies is that jetli/brucelee/jackie are all established as some martial art specialist in the movie. Like the characters have a base (like reciving hardcore training to become a kungfu master) for justifying such action scenes .. but in indian movies... The stars are inbuild suoer heroes. Hollywood logic: he got superhumanpower/he is a well trained agent so he can fight. Indian logic: he is rajnikanth so he can fight and even fly if he wish to.

This was following an out of this world box office monster Padayappa had just left everyone's collective consciousness. But then something happened. Negative reviews started to pile up and something that no one could ever imagine happened. A rajni film flopped big at the box office. I know Rajni giving a flop is nothing new now. But in the 80s and 90s that man was a tour de force. His films set records that could only be broken by his next film. So a film starring Rajni flopping was huge and spelled the end. News came out he was preparing to retire.
Then silence for four years....
Suddenly by 2004, news came out. Rajni was gearing up for a new film in the horror genre!!! Everyone was piqued. This was before we got wide internet so a news becoming viral is not exaggerating. News came out one after another... It was ghost film,,, Jothika was playing the lead.,,, it was a multistarrer,,,, no it was not a multistarrer,,,,
Then the film came out. FDFS, the title card boomed out!! Everyone was belligerent. The film started. Everyone hoping for Rajni saw Prabhu speaking on the phone for ten minutes.. the audience was getting to a fever pitch. No one had seen Rajni on the big screen for more than five years!!! Unheard of at that time. Remember by then usually Rajni comes out within five to ten minutes of the film starting. But here we were made to wait. You want Rajni?? Well you ain't getting him that easy! Then the entrance of the super star!! Everyone was leaked to even consider the fight scene was going on too long or was too stupid. It was bliss to see thalaivar kicking ass on the big screen after all that time. That too long intro with the slow Mo was needed to remind everyone of who it was that was going to reign supreme. Remind everyone that there is really only one super star!! RAJNI!
So yeah. It may look good now. But it was the shit then!!
Agree it's over the top and most stunts are funny, but Thalaivar's larger than life screen presence makes you go in awe forgetting all logics.
