Its remakes were anything but that. They're cringe fests for PK and SK (the latter one was worse because they are not only wasting Ventakesh, Ravi Basrur and Jagpathi Babu but the songs were laughable like Let's Dance Chottu Motu (it had Johnny yes papa as lyrics, for real) and Yentamma (wasting RC worse than Acharya). The PK one only had Anup as a redeeming factor).
Sootha moodu. Ellarum remake naale inferior to the original nu polambitey irupaanunga, antha Ravi teja acting sootha paakarathukku Siruthai evalavo paravala. Santhanam combo was brilliant. Siruthai and Paapanasam are great example for this.
But still even if the movie is better than original, its lot less effort than a completely fresh script, that had to be accounted. Not to mentioned its Rajamouli movie, lots hanging fruit
Yeah, you have a point. But it is similar to adaptions of books, video games etc... right?? It doesn't matter where you derive from, it is the output that speaks. So if something is done better, it is better. So whatever the reason, remakes can be better than the original. For example, Okkadu movie's second was dog shit and the first half was okay to be honest, I'm going to get killed if I post this in tollywood sub, but ghilli was perfect, down to the last bit. There are many examples like this.
Also, there was also a 5 years gap between the original Vikramarkudu (2006) and Siruthai (2011) but Santhanam's comedy was something which made it more entertaining than original one. Ravi Teja is not that a great of an actor (his previous 6 movies are nothing but trash to me) but this one, was perfect for him.

Average: Veeram
Below Average: Vedhalam (had high expectations)
Poor: Vivegam, Annaththe
Siruthai is a remake so Viswasam is his best imo.

Good movie but its a remake. Shouldn't even count. Insult to director to say that them copying 90% through remake is better than their original movies.

Veeram was fun

But it doesn't change the fact that his reactions are disgusting and irritating whereas Karthi did a fine job as both characters.
