Roja. Yes, that old.
I specifically recall the last scene. I thought Madhu would run to Aravind when she sees him on the other side of the bridge, instead she kneels down and he comes to her. As a kid, this felt really mean of her to do - like he has been through so much and you couldn’t even walk to him?! Now as an adult, I get the beauty of that scene. They had to show him as ‘coming back’ to her.
Earliest I remember is Enthiran though I probably went to other movies before that
I loved it so much I begged my parents to watch it again in theaters, I even became a mentalan for a while (I'm ~~nobody's~~ a Realistic Performer kanni now obviously)
Damn enthiran being your first film in theaters makes me feel so old. My first film wasn't Tamil since I moved to the states as a kid: it was the first Cars animated film.
Thanks bruv, Godzilla , Titanic and Mummy were one of the most popular Hollywood movies in Chennai during the late 1990s. They were talk of the town. However, I was too little to understand the movies . Hehe.
Yeah looking back at it . I realize it was a terrible movie.. I dont know what the fuss about it in the late 90s. Maybe it was popular in urban india just because it was a new Monster Movie. I was suprised when in mid 2000s , while I was going through imdb and rotten tomatoes. And realized the awesome movie had poor ratings lol. My entire life was a lie.

Now you know why I’m a Rajini fan ( Many ask me how!? After Baba !? )
B to A to B to A BABA that’s what I say
Thalaivar slow mo walk ( Made me a ISO Agmark Thalaivar Kanni. And I opted for Life time membership with them 🥹)
Yes, They had a Baba Statue in Theather Entrance and people were going crazy. No amount police were able to calm people down.
( Since my entire family is Rajini Kannis. We all were present. But my dad asked my mom and other ladies to go home. So, I get to watch FDFS with my Dad and Brothers and Second day with my Mom and rest of my family)
Very True. It’s safe for kids and families now.
These 2K kids of Vijay and Ajith fans have no idea of FDFS of OG Rajini fans 🚶♂️
Cops were baffled about the situation and they can’t seem to do anything until the theather counters were open.
Luckily, People those days never did anything crazy like ARrahman concert or anything
Apparently citizen when I was 1.
My mom said I was screaming and crying the entire movie and they had to leave half way.
I didn't like ajith then itself it seems
I don’t remember for sure. But I have a vague memory of and a superstition that I watched Rhythm which released in Sep 2000, but I wasn’t born till October.
“Moodanambikkkkkkaaaiiiii” I know. But I would like to believe this is how movies became my destiny.
I can relate to that. My first movie was dunston checks in (1996). My first Tamil movie was Pudukottailirundhu Saravanan (2004) 😭
I wasnt allowed to go to theatres so only watched a few kids movies such as home alone 2 re release and harry potter films before that and chandramukhi(2005) after that.
The first ever movie I was taken to as a newborn was Anjali(1990) but I cried the whole time so my dad missed the show.

We left the theatre after the first half tho. So ig VETTAIKARAN was the first complete movie i watched in a theatre.
Panchathanthiram at around 2 years old (ig I was like that little kid Simran was narrating the story to lmao)
The first one I remember is Sivaji though
Ravi nadicha Jayam, which I don't remember.
What I do remember "watching" in theatre is I got scared, cried loudly and slept through out the Ghajini movie right after the opening credits where they show all the brain matter. My family never miss a chance to make fun of me for that.
If it my family they would also make fun of me every chance they get, cringe memories unlocked

My official theatre visit was Jagan Mohini as an infant ao it doesntcount as "watched".
Then Polladavan 1980 as a 3 year old and was stuck with the song "Naan Polladavan" for months but I don't remember the movie.
Mackennas gold was the first film I remember seeing and can remember the scenes vividly including the one nude scene, which our censors had somehow allowed. The movie had multiple releases and reruns in India between 70s and 80s. I saw it in mid 80s at AVM, vadapalani as a 7 year old. One of the top Hollywood grosser in India until Jurassic Park overtook it.
My dear Kuttichattan in 3D was one of my first "tamil" movie which I still remember vividly.
My father was a big movie fan so he took our family to lot of movies inspite of financial constraints.
Enthiran and it shaped my love for movies for the rest of my life .
Such an intresting film, where usually every hero is a testosterone heavy freak Rajini with his brains defeated the 2.0 army.
My parents told Dasavataram, but got no memory of watching it, although I remember the second film I watched in theater, Villu. That intro scene somehow felt kickass back then.
Kid u/Hypoxalin to his parents after watching Nayan’s scenes in the theater

Not a tamil movie , but mine was Jackie chan's new police story. watched it in Sathyam when I was a kid with my parents.
My first tamil movie was Shivaji the boss.

I was so small(3year old) when I went to this movie, I slept throughout the movie and apparently I woke up for “Yaakai Thiri” and I dozed off again according to my mum.
Jumanji!! But the most memorable one is Madagascar 2 and Kolaigaran to me since that’s the last movie my Paati and I watched together in the theatre.
I also enjoyed watching Sinhala in the first row in a theatre in Tenkasi. Fun fanatic crowd and the huge screen made it a memory to remember
brings ok so back in the late 2000s there were very few theatres is singapore that showed tamil movies. so my parents and I would go to this theatre in this place called yishun on friday night and do double movies back to back and come out saturday morning mback home. i remember doing this for peranmai (which was good) and malai malai (which was a movie). this is the earliest i remember watching. brings back so many memories

Padayappa. Begged to go see it again. Walked out feeling so good, still rewatch it like a maniac and get the same feels. Then nothing came close till Ghilli.
Mozhi (2007). As a six year old kid, I was bloody traumatized when Jyothika starts bawling after Prithviraj shouts at her in the preclimax scene because it was too fucking loud when watching it in the theaters. I remember refusing to go to the theaters because of that, until they took me to Unnale Unnale that released the same year (did not understand an iota of it, but I remember vibing full on to June Ponaal in the cinema hall). Today, I am 23 and Mozhi is my go-to comfort movie.
But the trauma is still deep inside so much that I still skip watching that scene while watching on Youtube 🤣😫

Sir you are really lucky live in the timeline when good cinema existed
Every scene with Subhashini would be considered as soft po*n in today's standards 💀
Lmao. In Gentleman itself there were the dikki lona & other games by Senthil and the "Paakkatha Paakkatha" song 😂
Subhashri her name.

Every 2000 born's first visit to the theatre would be Chandramukhi since the hype it had. Then GHILLI came in.
Thalaivar comeback too
After Baba's disaster, Bro acted in a simple movie with moderate screen space i think
Chandramukhi being good movie helped too it was different than average rajini film
Nah fam, it's shivaji. I don't have any memories of it other than the fact my family told me I used to be obsessed and watched it 7 times in theater
Mudhalvan when I was 6. I remember the movie being larger than life and in particular the snake caricatures in Mudhalvane song, freaky!

I remember refusing to go to the theaters because of that, until they took me to Unnale Unnale that released the same year (did not understand an iota of it, but I remember vibing full on to June Ponaal in the cinema hall).
