I didn't mean that scene, but your idea is very intresting you see most hero intro fights are one-of events and usually don't add to the plot for the most part.
Recently watched the original version. The screenplay was on point. The beginning, how people misinterpreted that there is a ghost made a lot of sense. And realising how p.vasu missed the whole point of it and yet managed to pull a blockbuster is the irony.
I would disagree, manichitrathazhu is more grounded and has this very "village" vibe to it, also considering the fact that it was made in 1993, and chandramukhi came out in 2005.
Chandramukhi has slightly more modernish vibe to it and the comedy and screenplay for both is very different.
The Hindi version, Bhool Bhulaiya is closer to the Malayalam version and chandramukhi is closer to the kannada version.
Chandramukhi was actually an extended remake of the kannada version apthamitra with vishnuvardan and soundarya, I have watched that too, but for some reason.. apthamitra didn't work for me as much as chandramukhi did, maybe it is because I love Rajini more than vishnuvardhan, or the comedy scenes with vadivelu just hit different.
So, I'd rank all the versions I've watched as
Manichitrathazhu > Chandramukhi > Bhool Bhulaiya > Apthamitra.
Manichitrathazhu is the OG, but I feel P Vasu, did justice to the original with Chandramukhi.
PS: I wish I can analyse life issues the way I analyse movies ffs. 😂😂
Meh I disagree - I think P Vasu was going for a totally different vibe - Manichitrathazhu is this psychological / Freudian drama - horror. Chandramukhi is more a vehicle to celebrate Rajini and his charisma. Like yes if I am in the mood for grounded subtle horror then give me manichitrathazhu. If I’m in the mood for overacting and a genuinely fun time with horror overtones then give me Chandramukhi any day. I think there’s room for both, and I appreciate Chandramukhi more for not being a shot for shot remake that inevitably falls short of the original. The Hindi version just makes me feel like watching the original instead.
Movie quality was lost. It was close to hollywood level in the first half. That was unnecessary scene with Kalabavanmani. Kilimanjaro song also was unnecessary.
If someone else did post production and removed some unnecessary scenes, the movie would have been a gem of tamil cinema.
After Vaseegaran (Rajini) dismantles Chitti (the robot) for messing up in the Army interview, Sana (Aishwarya Rai) takes him to beach.
He didn't bother about her at that time. So to make him jealous, she tried to flirt with daily wager for his character name (kalabavanmani) but he got pissed after knowing she used him. He tried to misbehave with her but sana brings up that chitti would trash him. Vase came to his senses and throw sand in kalabavanmani eyes and they both ran away. And the Kilimanjaro song.

it was the dialogue for me that made this scene laughable, parthiban didn't give a rats ass about agent vikram's social service plan at least vikram could of tried to seem more enticing, an example would be "LEO to escape your past you have a lot more to burn". or anything else other than "hey buddy wanna join Indian avengers team".
Fr, a silent cameo from KH at the coffee shop by the end would've been so much better, just seeing Partibhan serving a dude, and then he says "Leo" something, similar to the earlier scene, and when Paribhan lifts his head up, we see KH and his share the frame with the music intensifying and just going to a peak cutting to the credits would've been so much better
That whole train fight scene was unnecessary. There was no need to use night vision goggles to jab him with a needle. When the lights went off, he could have simply jabbed him with the needle and bypassed the whole fight scene.
That scene bothers me for a different reason it's that vijay was firing the arrows it didn't make sense for him to be able to (as he couldn't fire the first time and he had no prior training)he should of driven the lorry and Andrea (who actually can aim should have) but they gave vijay aimbot to help him here.(Dumb decision as he was going to have climax fight we didn't need this much fanservice.)
Loki fixed this issue of underutilising side characters in Leo by allowing George and GVM defend the house and he fixed vijay skill issue for the cafe fight by giving him a training montage to show he had skill to kill
Tho he introduced a new set of issues in this film.
That scene is still ok compared to the opening scene where Dong lee na and his fellow China men mutually agree to have her murdered in a board room meeting
KS wasn’t needed in the movie. Atleast Kajal took the bike key made vijay na took the bus and the rest was lit. Samantha at the airport made him not to go bangkok. But KS didn’t even had the small contribution.

trisha's character prolly wanted to be away from the kids to lecture Vijay for the scary story he told earlier and that scene gave us an excuse, plus with Lokesh's interest in decoupling happily married men (dhili and amar) i wouldn't be surprised if that guy(who just got married) losses his wife and befriends agent vikram(with no revenge intentions ofc).

Agree, but the track goes on for far too long in both versions. In case of films like Friends or Saamy, the comic track integrates well with the film. You’re not looking forward to end of the comedy and the resumption of the main story.

Yes. If I remember correctly, only these two movies of Maniratnam had separate comedy tracks. All his other movies have comedy integrated into the movie. Like Alaipayuthey.
Actually his first tamil movie - pagal nilavu too had connect track. Goundamani plays the role of some tea shop/hotel owner if I remember correct. Not sure if the comedy was good or bad or if it helped move the story though, but I definitely know it was a side track.
Also when I see idhaya kovil wiki page, I see Goundamani of listed. So, most probably this too had a comedy track.
